Probably a big-time noob question, but now do I get my tablet to recognize my SD card when using the adapter? Are there more steps than simply plugging it in and looking for it with a file manager? For that matter, the same question applies to the USB adapter when using it with a flash drive. Someone please help and confirm my ineptitude! Thanks!

Running stock? It will pop up on the bottom, where the clock is.
Running a custom ROM? Not sure.

There is a special folder: Storages where external usb memory can be found when mounted.
In my experience USB OTG is a very good replacement of embedded external SD card and it works very well with two usb adapters I tried.
Hi, I had purchased a new sd card, can I just transfer my data from old sd card to new sd card and insert into my phone?

Yes you can, I did that
But if you don't transfer some things over, you may very force closes in some apps that need days from the sd card

1 more question is I should format my sd card as fat32 or ntfs? Thanks..

No problems if you are transferring everything over
If you leave out some things you think are useless, like I did, you may have problems. I just transferred what I thought was needed and I had no problems
I do Fat32
I use Airdroid

Most SDcards are already formatted to FAT 32. I use Airdroid https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid
Simply copy ALL from your SDcard to computer, put new card in phone then copy back from PC to phone

Hi guys!
Can someone help me with this.
I'm trying to move one file that I've downloaded to internal storage to the sdcard but I can't. File manager says file too big. Any advice? My sdcard has a capacity of 32 Gb.

Thank you Ben but already tried that and didn't work. EFBIG (file too large) error. I think it's a sdcard limiting.
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
Most likely because the SD card is formatted in FAT32 which has a limit of 4GB. If the destination is NTFS, you should be able to copy it
Can't do files that big on fat 32 I think. 4gb would be okay, but if it's just a little over, no dice. You sure it's less than 4,294,967,295 bytes*?

Only way. Download myphone explorer to pc and connect phone thru wifi. Transfer file to comp and then transfer again to ext sd from comp. Hope that will work.

Won't work either. File system restrictions are still present even if done another way
Try to use another format. The format of choice would either be exfat or ext4
While ext4 should do the trick I'd prefer exfat since it has windows compatibility. Ext4 isn't natively supported by windows (only Unix based)
Since 32gb is max for fat partitions, the z1 on the other hand supports 64gb cards, it should be able to mount exfat

Help!
I cannot copy and paste files from phone to USB flashdrive using OTG, but it works from USB flashdrive to my phone.
I'm running MIUI-1.18.0(Root India).
Thanx in advance!
What miui is that? 1.18.0? Does it even exist?

Hi. I too am having a similar issue. In my case however, the USB drive is detected as a device but size is showed as 0bytes! I am using a 32GB SD card with an OTG card reader. Is this not supported by MI3 ?

Does this device support USB OTG out of the box? Or is there any hack that'll enable it? I know the Moto G 2014 does, so it'd be rather odd if the X didn't.

Yes, its enabled out of the box. Use a file explorer to access it, unmount by going to settings->storage
Yep, just got my Moto x today, tested otg with a 64GB micro sd on the otg end and it works like a charm with very fast access.

Check formatting on your card? I had a 64 GB formatted exFAT which did not work, but works fine formatted with FAT32.
What about USB OTG support on Lollipop 5.0? Is it works or not?
my sandisk 64gb dual drive isn't mounting...
I too am having issues with otg support on my Verizon Moto X 2014 XT1096 running Lollipop 5.0 with an Adata UD320. Works fine on my first gen Moto x but in the 2014 it wont stay mounted. Wonder if it's a Lollipop issue? Anyone else having trouble?
Uninstalling Root Explorer solves this problem ans the flash drive works as normal.

Do you have write access? I can read from USB but not write
I just bought an otg cable from Amazon and it has worked flawlessly on my Moto X 2014 running stock lollipop. I have tested it with a wireless mouse, wired mouse, Logitech keyboard and a thumb drive. I successfully copied files from thumbdrive to phone via ES explorer.

Two thoughts. First, you have the sandisk driver/file explorer loaded right? Also, I think I saw someplace Moto X may have an issue with ExFAT, and you may have to go Fat32.

i agree on fat32, don't think stock android supports exfat due to licensing issues. i'm using a 32gb card in a meenova (2nd gen)
