Hi guys!
Can someone help me with this.
I'm trying to move one file that I've downloaded to internal storage to the sdcard but I can't. File manager says file too big. Any advice? My sdcard has a capacity of 32 Gb.

Thank you Ben but already tried that and didn't work. EFBIG (file too large) error. I think it's a sdcard limiting.
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
Most likely because the SD card is formatted in FAT32 which has a limit of 4GB. If the destination is NTFS, you should be able to copy it
Can't do files that big on fat 32 I think. 4gb would be okay, but if it's just a little over, no dice. You sure it's less than 4,294,967,295 bytes*?

Only way. Download myphone explorer to pc and connect phone thru wifi. Transfer file to comp and then transfer again to ext sd from comp. Hope that will work.

Won't work either. File system restrictions are still present even if done another way
Try to use another format. The format of choice would either be exfat or ext4
While ext4 should do the trick I'd prefer exfat since it has windows compatibility. Ext4 isn't natively supported by windows (only Unix based)
Since 32gb is max for fat partitions, the z1 on the other hand supports 64gb cards, it should be able to mount exfat

Yeah but watch out: reformatting results in an empty partition

To avoid so much trouble just use a swap file.

im a bit confused about this...reformat the sd card 1st or do the steps of partitioning sd card? after partitioning sd card then reformat sd card again?
Do it from CWM recovery. It will format the card and partition it for app2sd and for swap. Just specify what sizes you want. Remember to backup your SD card.

It uses a swap file, not partition, hence there is no need for formatting or repartitioning .

True but its a hassle to just sit there waiting for the swap file to get created, especially if you want large sizes like 256Mb. Its also slower compared to a partition.

It doesn't take that long, and anyway since swap is already so slow the speed difference between partition and file is not much. Plus it is less hassle to create swap file, than repartitioning.

Hello everyone
I have upgraded from 32GB to a 64GD SD card but its not viewable by the phone. When formatted to NTFS it can be used from my Windows computer. I would be happy to have it in proper Linux Ext2, 3 or 4 format. I store a lot of 250MB videos. No need for bluray rips.
I thought it would be a drop in replacement but its not. Anyone able to tell me how to get it working on Android?

Format it as FAT on your PC.
You'll be limited to max 4GB file size though.
Install 'ntfs mounter' to use your SD card in ntfs format

I have 32GB class 10 micro sd card put into my NOTE which is with NTFS file system format. I am gettling BLANK SD CARD, SD CARD BLANK OR HAS UNSUPPORTED FILE SYSTEM message in the notification bar with ONGOING header. But after installing NTFS MOUNTER app, I am able to access SD card, but the message still remain there.
Can anyone please tell me how can I remove this message, since SD card is working fine ?
May be try formating the sd to fat 32

I want to keep NTFS format so that I can watch 1080p videos which will be more than 4GB in size and FAT32 cannot support more than 4GB single file size.

Have you tried any of the apps for mounting ntfs formatted sdcards, from Play Store? Haven't done it myself but seen there are apps. Maybe one of those will get your sd up and running =)

As I had mentioned earlier in my 1st post itself, SD card and USB Pen drive is working perfectly fine with NTFS format in my Note using NTFS MOUNTER app from android market. The only issue is the message which is not disappearing from the notification drop down mentioning "BLANK SD CARD". I want this message to go. I am in stock ICS rom with rooted.
Just curious, but I would like to know what is the format of the internal memory of the Xperia Z? Right-clicking it in via windows explorer doesn't show any info regarding that. I'm asking this because I've managed to copy over (drag n' drop via windows explorer) a 4.88 GB file.
Coming from a Galaxy Note previously, I didn't think that it was possible to copy over a file > 4GB (on stock), at least not on a FAT32-formatted internal storage.
So... the question is...
what format is the internal storage? NTFS? (There's talk about how it's limited to only Windows) or exFAT?
...or perhaps I'm totally off-course and it's more of an issue regarding MTP?
Either way, I'm a happy guy with how I can actually not worry about the 4GB limit. Of course, I'm still curious... (Eh, if screenies are required for proof, I'll be more than happy to oblige)

Also coming from the Note here, but I didn't had any problem, the Note has the same File System as the XZ
I am sure it will use ext3 a linux/bsd format
Found that it is using ext4 format, so you can drop a 8Gb file there if you want
I bought a MicroSD 32GB (Class 10) but...
- Formatted it ext4 = didn't work
- Formatted it NTFS = didn't work
Unlocked and rooted phone: any way to get a format that then allows me to place file bigger than 4 GB?
Format it to ext4.
Sorry missed your last sentence. But try a different app to format it or try the phone.

Internal storage is ext4. This is not changeable.
External storage ext4 formatted should be readable by the phone.
You're rooted? Try to format it to ext4 using the command line/adb shell session.
This has been repeated too many times. The internal memory is ext3 or ext4 and can take any file you throw at it.
SD cards only work in FAT32 (without root and without extra drivers from the Play Store). No matter what you do, without rooting and installing some driver you cannot use anything but FAT32. SD's in EXT3/4 are not mounted, exFAT and NTFS aren't licensed.

AW: 4GB Limit?
I dont know, you could google for the information how to format a sdcard to ext4 through adb or a shell.
Another user(s?) further up said though, it wont read ext4 formatted cards. I dont know, I only use a 32GB card and have no big files. My card is fat32 formatted.
This is for the Note 2, but something similar should work for the Xperia Z.
I have rooted my phone, Is there any way to mount exFAT formatted card ?
Hi,
I do not want to start new thread so I am asking here:
Is it possible to format 16 or 32 gb hc card in exFAT by the Xperia Z (not by PC)?
If yes - is it worth doing this?

If you used to using Linux PC / Laptop, then best system file is ext4. Since Z1 didn't support NTFS regarding lack of kernel features (hopefully doomlord will add this on next build), then ext4 is the best choice.
But if you using Windows, FAT32 is your choice. But you can't copy a single file which larger than 4 GB (this is the lack of fat32), beside that fat32 can only formating a disk which not bigger than 32gb. In this case, you can create two or more partitions for your 64gb sdcard.
If there's any questions, let me know. Hope this help.

Do not mess up with partitions if you will not use some kind of installations where EXT4 is needed. 64GB SDXC have natively extFAT as primary Partition and its supported by Z1, best choice and performance, also it support more than 4GB per file.

With what Partition System did you formatted your SD last time? Minitool Home Edition I think do not support exFAT. I remember Windows 7 can do that and it will let you formatting the card in exFAT with 32k cluster size. If you can't try to find an application to do so.

Ok, just thought I'd ask as I get the option in my recovery. I've never used it but I assumed it would allow you to choose the filesystem to format.
It would be nice though
I'd say you should your xperia take care about formatting:
Aslong as its in your device it shouldn't matter what format the card has. In mtp -mode your xperia acts like a reader/writer. It also updates your file index by this method.
If you're using it as a external SD card you should use whatever suits your os.
Ext4 would be okay since there are open source free writers/readers available for Windows.
Still, any changes need the media scanner to run before your Android recognize the files

64 is SDXC and you forced the card to use FAT32, now you don't get the best performance from your card. All 32GB, and under, microSDs are SDHC and they use FAT32. I have 64GB SDXC and out of box is exFAT and I insered the card in my Z1 and it recognize exFAT very well. If you formatted the card with a wrong program you can compromise your partition system, that is why the Z1 do not recognize your card anymore after formatting. Try again to get the best from SDXC.
