Clip Smartphone Lenses - Wide, Fisheye, Macro (with IMAAAAAGES) - G 2014 Accessories

PhOtOgRaPhY MaDnEsS
These lenses can be found on eBay for a few bucks. I've got mine at Mercado Livre (BR) for R$50,00 (which is like US$20).
They have a decent quality and go fine with the new Moto G. They produce some chromatic aberration, and they surely will bump your ISO up - so be careful with indoor shots, as they will be probably noisier than without the lens.
But it's not something that will compromise your selfies or daily snaps.
As for videos, my Moto G struggles in focusing. Idk why. But it almost renders videos unusable with the infinite being almost always out of focus.

The kit includes two lenses (one being splittable) and a clip. You just screw the lens to the clip, and clip it (oh really) to the phone.
It fits well in the Moto G.
Here's the fisheye. It provides a damn big angle of view.
The cool thing is that these clip lenses are versatile. You can put it in the front camera, to add some extra bam to your selfies
(in case anyone wants, here's a photo in the same distance and without the lens)
And here...
We have the Macro + Wide lenses. Split it, and it becomes a macro. Join them, and you've got a wide angle.
Here's the macro in action.
And a photo of the wide angle. (definetely not my favourite lens)
Veredict?
Well, they're worth it. Just be careful because sometimes the clip can leave marks on your colorful shell.

Yes, I do! Check your inbox

I'm excited to see some captured pictures from the lenses...

Does it only leave marks on the Shell or can it leave marks on the screen too?

Shell Comparison
Hey,
Really liked your rear shell for the Moto G 2014. Is it turquoise color ?
I am considering buying the same shell but cannot make up my mind since turquoise shell on the Motorola website look so different in color than the one you have.
Can you do a side by side comparison of the rear shell that shipped with the Moto G 2014 with the turquoise one ?
I heard that both the shells differ in terms of feel, strength and material... Do comment on these too.
Looking forward for some nice photos of the shell on the phone...
Thanks

Yep, it's the turquoise. I don't have it right now, but yes, they feel different. Personnally I preffer the black, as it's a little more grippy than the turquoise (which is more slippery). About the strenght, I'm afraid can't answer.

The fisheye sounds good. But it is a little expense, because 3 in 1 fisheye kits on amazon is only 11.99 doller . So what I should do ?

I have been trying to find a lens kit for the Moto G Plus. Like the results of your lens kit with exception to "wide lens" don't like the black ring around the photo. Can you let me know the brand that you use for your photos? Thanks in advance.

camera question..

hi there. recently i notice that there are green dotss and blue dotss somewhere on the picture taken from my camera.. does this mean that there are dead pixels?? or my camera become faulty??
is there anywhere to clear all the dots tat are on the picture??
sorry my english is not so good
i had uploaded a photo that had been taken from my camera..
please have a look, there are lotsa green dots n blue dot somewhere on the picture..
how can i solve this problem??
I've got green and red dots also on my camera. Even had it on my only previous faulty device too.
Apparently I think this happens for everyone's XDA IIi or equivalent device. Is there any experts out there who can explain the cause?
thats called Sensor Noise! because the photo sensor on mobile devices is so small if you try and take a picture in a dark environment you'll get noise!
try taking a pic in an environment with plenty of light
if you want a decent picture spend a few $$ on a decent camera
i had try out taking a picture somewhere brighter, but the result still same.. here's the picture i had taken.
by the way, how can i upgrade my xdaIIi's camera to the type of camera u mention ?? upgrade it from o2 service department ??
thankss
You can't upgrade the internal camera, there are no direct replacements. If you look at the Hi-res images I got of the Alpine you'll see the sort of size and shape of camera required and I very much doubt there'll be others the same or similar shape/size. If there are then you need to add the data ribbon to connect it.
Overall go to an Elec store and buy a dedicated camera.
I don't agree. Motorola V3 has a camera as small as XDAIIi and the pictures are awesome. Lenses are a determinant factor in quality. I personaly have a Canon DC20 that takes wonderfull photos but I would like to get better photos with my XDAIIi. Why not get better results wiyh ours devices? Converging functions in one device is helpfull to mobile professionals. BTW, tweaking the camera settings in registry makes the photos much better. See this forum for more information.

I think that there is no problem on your camara. note that if you want to have a good picture you must chose the best index light in setting of the camara for example; ambience: night or flourescent... and the cature mode, cature size..

The camera isnt that good but you are never going to get great pics from a lens that size and indoor pics are always going to be grainy without a flash tho you should be getting better pics than those you have so far

Do a search for AtekSoft's CoolCamera. It allows quite a few more options than the default. There may be better camera replacement software out there, but I havn't found it yet.
Ateksoft is the one most Cooooooooool Camera software.....
From what I understand, O2 included a camera 'upgrade' in their extrom (which installs whenever you hard reset), which actually makes the camera quality WORSE. I've not tested it myself, as I'm quite happy with my phone setup as it is and really don't want to hard reset AGAIN, but some users report that flashing their device with the firmware which doesn't include this camera upgrade makes their camera quality better.
Also, you have to bear in mind that pretty much all cameras use cheap and nasty CMOS sensor technology (what low-quality webcams use) - the resolution and light sensitivity of CMOS technology is REALLY poor compared to CCD, but CCD tech is much more expensive and sucks up more battery power (hence CMOS technology being more widespread in the mobile industry).
Better quality cameras are starting to appear, and the quality of the k750i camera continues to astound me when I see my friends' photos. It won't be long though, I remember seeing articles about lenses made with a tiny suspension of water inbetween two nanometre-thick layers of plastic, to which an electric current could be applied to make the water change shape, acting as an optical lens... This kind of technology will drastically increase the quality and cost-effectiveness of higher-end portable, miniature camera technology, and I can't wait until it becomes widespread.

Good Camera for under $400

I told my girlfriend I'd get her a camera for Christmas. I was planning on getting her a $1000 high end camera but we went to Vegas and she knows not to expect that. I'm down to getting her something in the $300 to $400 area. She currently has this huge 3 year old camera which makes her feel like a photographer. My old sony cybershot was better, it's to bad she lost it in Vegas. I know nothing about cameras and what to look for. Although, I know high zoom and megapixels aren't always the way to go. Can anyone give me good recommendations? It'll mostly be used for still shots. I know she really likes to play with settings on a camera but those tend to only come on the really expensive ones.
If possible can anyone recommend me a good entry level dslrs camera as well. I might be able to get some more money from here until then.
For point and shoots look at the Canon G series. (G11, G12) they have the settings and sensor of a dSLR but in a compact design and no interchangeable lenses. For cheaper dSLRs look at the Canon T2i (not the T3i, same thing, but swivel screen and more expensive).
Fuji S series are very good for the price.
There compacts in the design of SLR with all the A/P S/P M modes including the usual point and shoots & Optical Zoom 10 x can be found very cheap for the amount of options inc.
Panasonic Lumix cameras are always getting excellent reviews. I'm happy with mine.

Ive heard realy good reviews for them... Generally what you want is a bridge camera: someting between a compact and dslr but without interchangeable lens

As I said before, Canon G series are the best for their price vs. Quality vs. manual settings.

Actually it is. That battery connector is actually quite tiny, but the photo makes it seem much larger.
Macro basically means life size. So in that shot it would be macro if you placed the battery connector on the camera's sensor, that's how much space it would take up on a photo. SO basically if you have something that is half the sensor, it would cover half the sensor. That is of course when you are focused to achieve 1:1 ratio of zoom.
The macro setting on the point and shoot cameras is just a setting that enables you to focus closer, but there is nothing macro about that.
Kind of like this:

Made one with illustration board. I tried using the magnifying glass lens I have laying around (I conveniently have 2) but it doesn't get the job done. Everything looks blurred until I move the phone 4 inch farther... so that's why it is required to have lens with 40-45mm focal length (regardless of diameter, I think)
I'll be making another one out of vinyl tiles while I'm looking for the proper lenses here in my area.

depends on the app. Do a search for Google Cardboard. Its still a very young market, so apps are limited. I have one app that's for watching videos, but the rest are pretty much demos of 3d experiences (google earth, roller coaster, street view). The apps split the screen into two and the headset allows each eye to get one view
But the first time people use it..... A long ....woooooowwwwww....

Hi, the magnetometer is near IR blaster, so I have to lock my phone in the glass as high as possible to make the magnet stick work
Thank you, it work, but very shaky. May be we can change magnet to more powerful (from hard drive, e.g.)? Or can use voice, or headeset button?
In my case, I use 2 ferrite magnets and hold the phone like I do above. I think you can modify the glass with a lower magnet slider
I tried a bigger neodymium magnet (20mm diameter, 5mm thick) and it didn't work.
Voice or headset button: depends on your apps

Comes in 4 colours: Red, Black, White and Tan Leather. Leathery finish to it which makes it feel quite premium. Not quite sure whether it is PU or Leather, but it feels very nice. Inside is lined with microfibre material that is stitched in place very well. Quality of the stitching all around the sleeve seems good like the interior of a nice car
So flat it has roughly the same profile as a magazine. There was a concern where the N10 was bigger in length than the sleeve's measurement but this hasn't been as big as I thought. It leads to the sleeve being a tiny bit open, but you can judge from the pictures as to how much of an effect it has. the opening itself has magnets embedded inside it so that it can fold and stay folded in the different shapes and not fall apart.
So it folds into two different types of stands; One at 20 degrees and another at 45 degrees. Folding the sleeve into stands is really easy and you can't really mess it up by doing it incorrectly. Just undo whatever you did and fix it correctly and you're good to go.
Putting your tablet on the 20 degree stand in landscape mode feels very stable and is not going to fall off the side very easily. If you play a game and tap the side of the screen, you might have to tap it really hard to make it fall off. In portrait mode for things like web browsing is really nice too because the case supports the full length of the tablet and then at least you don't have the light bouncing off and hitting you in the eye.
At 45 degrees, it's still easy to fold and putting your tablet up there doesn't affect the structure and support of the case. Part of the reason is the case provides the weight needed for stability and it comes across as very stable. All the buttons and ports are reachable in both portrait and landscape mode.
Overall, I'm really happy with it.
Mine arrived today (hooray Amazon Prime) and I thoroughly agree with this review.
It really is surprisingly stable with the tablet in landscape; I was expecting it to wobble even a little bit, but it's rock steady.
Outer material is fairly nice (I went for the black one) and slides into my back-pack better than the soft-touch back of the bare tablet. (I got this for the stand functionality more than protection!).
I just hope the "new car smell" goes away soon! :silly:
(incidentally, anyone else think the photos in the OP make it look a lot like a manilla envelope or Jiffy bag?)

Moment Lens have their attachment case recently released that allows for all of their lenses to be attached. I really want to get the anamorphic lenses they have, yet I just got to save up for it as they are a premium investment. There's a few other competitors to Moment Lens you might want to check out as well. I hope that helps.

I don't know where you were looking at but the have the N20U cases for order:
https://www.shopmoment.com/shop/galaxy-thin-case/note-20-ultra
I plan to pick up the case and the anamorphic lenses next month.
So this is funny..... I ordered the starter kit.... which is the Note 20 U case, 2 lenses and the lens caps and cleaning brush...... to find out that Moment is no longer supporting their Android App..... what a pita. Its not even listed in the play store from what I can see.
Moment is good. Nice thing is when new phones come out, they make a new case that is compatible with their lenses extending your investment.
Pricy, but seems high quality glass.

You're going to have optical issues with add on lens.
Get closer to the subject etc and work with what you got.
Or do it right and get a DSLR...

I have a D810 , lens reversing rings and a PB-6 bellows..... I don't want to carry all that gear with me in my pocket....
I have the Note 20 Ultra, the Moment case, Moment Fisheye, Moment Wide, and Tele. I have about $30K in professional camera gear. Adding lenses on the phone can work and I will sometimes use mine, especially for phone video. I carry these additional items in a small case. But, these phone add-ons start to add up in cost and I think you are better off investing in a compact camera. I my case, I also have a couple of small Canon EOS M bodies. These compact cameras will fit into the same size case as the phone add-ons and will be a much better solution than the phone. So I think it comes down to how much you can spend and how much image quality to need.
You could start with the Moment case and macro lens and give it a try.
I've seen some nice results from Moment lenses, any experience with cheaper telephoto alternatives? This one seems interesting:
