[Q] Update Lost - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know the Moto G 2014 recently got an update, I had recieved this update and started downloading it but had to stop in between as I was leaving home... After I came Back and used system update, It says your phone software is upto date, Though I Know its not??
Where the update went and how to restore it.. If possible without flashing or clearing data??

That is not a big problem, just wait for the Android L update, it will be better and have more features....
Don't worry about it..

At least read the thread about update
That OTA update is stopped by Motorola

You have not read this thread either

Even if you want that update then you can sideload the zip I have provided in that first thread

[Q] Newb questions! help please :)

Hey guys, so I have an unrooted & locked stock froyo N1 on FRF91. After I bought my phone, I manually updated to FRF85B, and then manually to FRF91 (too impatient to wait for froyo!). I tried searching the forums, but came up empty handed, so here are my questions!
I was just wondering if this would affect me receiving OTAs in the future and updating applications. For example, when the new Facebook and Twitter version came out I didn't get a notification and I couldn't update it through Marketplace, so I had to download them and install them through Marketplace to get the newest version. However, I can automatically update applications such as Google Maps and Google Voice. Does me manually upgrading have to do anything with this?
Also, I saw a new version named "FRF91-UP" floating around the forums, was this an OTA upgrade? I know it contains the new Gmail application as well as the new Facebook and Twitter app as well, and if it was a OTA upgrade, I never got it . Is there something I have to do to start getting these OTAs if it is an OTA? Or is this a leaked update?
Sorry for so many questions, I'm still learning how to use android to its full capacity ! And thanks in advance to whoever can help me out!!
From what i read, YES, your full stock, long as you got Stock recovery you will receive OTA's from whoever sends them, some Updates require to do a manual update.. i did the manual update too and all my apps get auto update, and i get notifications too, jus like everything else you can try do a recovery(stock) wipe/factory reset.. this might help in some way..
a buddy did this 2 days ago and he got some features that where there b4, he waited for the OTA's,then again i dont think he was really looking.. Lol
and i never heard of any FRF91-UP or seen anything around.. if anything i would have heard from my friend that has waited and all
Edit-
I just googled FRF91-UP this is for rooted phones.. if anything the pulled the update gmail and whatever else and ported it to whatever phone

[Q] Razr i - ota update failed or not?

Hi guys,
Can anyone shed some light on this. Was told by someone there was a new update out. I have a rooted phone.
I saw the update and failed to remember what version they said was out but just clicked update anyway.
Downloaded the update fine, said yes to install and it all seemed to go through fine.
The phone rebooted and it said android was upgrading.
And yet I haven't noticed any changed such as someone telling me chrome OS is the main browser now and yet I can't see that.
Checked the version and it shows 81.5.39001.XT890.Retail.en.GB.
I checked for an update and it said there is no update at present.
So confused. Did it update? And if not, how can I do this on a rooted phone?
Thanks a lot for any help.
It updated fine
Thanks Phil, I thought the latest update however was 81.5.39002. Could be wrong though.
Nope, that's the latest version.
Cheers. The main suprise I had was that it retained my root which I didn't expect.

You can always check the stickied thread I made for the latest OTA Update files, don't have to wait for them to be fully pushed.

You don't actually have 39001 GB in there yet.
EDIT - just seen it, sorry.
Thanks all, I just couldnt see any major difference that was all between the old and new firmware hence another reason why I was a bit confused.

I'm with you. Not going to apply it. Can't seem to get rid of the "software update is available" notification.... Any tricks for this?
Update....
Seems it attempted to install itself last night when plugged in. It failed, said I was rooted *gasp* and now the notification is gone Hurrah!

The only thing that I know of is that it will not update if the battery is low. LOL. Other than that, I do not know how to stop it as I understand updates are forced after denying them 3 times. I could be wrong.
Sent from my LG-D950 using Tapatalk
Got the notification this morning and denied it. Froze the OTA in Titanium Backup so it didn't try and apply the update later.
I tried to update, but I got an error saying my phone was suspected of being Rooted.
has anyone un-rooted and then installed the update and then rooted it again?
*********ALSO********** Could someone upload the new APN Settings ? either in this thread or a new one?
I'm rooted but stock and took the update fine and keep the root... Luck maybe?
Same here @yuckycool. It auto updated, but root persisted.
Auto update and kept root as well. Towelroot method everything else stock.

[Q] Received OTA but cancelled and no OTA now (Update: received it)

[Q] Received OTA but cancelled and no OTA now
Hi, I have the Moto G XT1063. Some minutes ago I received the OTA for Lollipop 22.21.25.en.us version . I started to download it, but I wanted to grab the link using my PC as hotspot and using Wireshark but when I cancelled it I was told to go to System/Check updates to update it again later, and when I tried to update it again I got the message saying "Yout device is up to date". I tried different Wi-FI networks, USB update via Motorola Device Update but no update found.
Did this happened to any of you? Could you resolve it? How?
Thank you!
I got the OTA notification on my XT1064 earlier today at lunch. I am rooted (TWRP, Xposed, debloted) so I know it would fail anyhow, so I cancelled it...I am counting on the fact that we will have CM or slim for the phone soon.
I had the same thing happen to me for the last update when I was on vacation a few weeks ago. I had spotty hotel WiFi so I decided to cancel and try again later. Still haven't had a second chance.
Wow, WEEKS? I've already waited 6 weeks. I thought I would get the update in a day again but it doesn't look like I will.
I guess we will have to wait until the official version comes. I like how Motorola keeps their phones updated but their way of updating them is horrible and they have really dissapointed me. I hate the rollout being in phases and on top of that when I finally received the OTA after more than a month waiting and tried to update it later I cannot get it anymore! They must be joking! Besides, I don't know why they take so long! What's the mystery Motorola?
They keeping everything in secret god knows why or 2 russian engineers.
Even who is invited to soak test shouldnt talk about the update. I think they hate Europeans, because the difference between the two device (the EU version and the US one) is minimal.

Motorola does the same stage rollout update methods as Google, although personally I find Google to be much worse.
They do this to steady the flow of updates (to save their servers some stress), and to catch early bugs that are noticed by the first or second 'pool' of users.
Apple does this right in my opinion. Once an update is pushed, every single supported iOS device can update immediately.
Patience. We just need patience
It's only software...
Found a solution!
The same thing happened with me when we get the first sw update (stock launcher - Google Now launcher) I tried a lot but I was not able to update it. After 2 months I did a factory reset & then tried to do a system update & it worked I again got an option to do software update!

Sorry but I don't find what you've said as a solution. I definately don't believe that waiting 2 months after you received the update is a solution. I think that you got the OTA for a second time.
I will not do any factory reset: doing a factory reset DOES NOT do anything. In fact it changes an unique Google ID that Motorola uses to update their mobiles phones and could actually reduce your chances to receive the OTA. This was explained by a Google engineer- So for anyone reading this DO NOT FACTORY RESET your phone. Let's just wait; we are already in the batch-
You all can force OTA.
Go to settings => Apps => All => Find google service framework.
Clear cache and data of it, stop the service & then reboot the phone. Then again try to check for update.
Do it couple of times if did not work on 1st try.

NO! That's actually the same as doing a factory reset or even worse. It's a myth proved wrong. Just google "google engineer OTA" and you'll see how the rollout is done. I can't post links because I'm new here.

Thanks for letting me know, that was an interesting read.
Finally I got it today. It didn't show up as a notification but I checked for updates and Lollipop 5.0.2 was there! Jumped from 4.4.4 to 5.0.2 (412.3 MB). It's very nice. I believe Motorola is rolling it out officially since it showed up in the System updates check.

Wait... So you're saying since I rooted my phone with TWRP I have to then not accept the update and THEN wait even MORE? How can I use it now? i.e. is there anyway of reverting it to where I can use the update.

[Q] Not getting OTA updates/takes a long time to come out?

The last update that was pushed to my phone was 47.1.A.2.374..... in the beginning of November...
What gives? Is there a way to get updates faster?
I know that XperiFirm exists. I would just like to get updates OTA.

If you don't want to go down the road of flashing your own firmware, there isn't anything you can do.
I created an account for the Sony forums, because in theory they are read by Sony employees. I started a couple of threads regarding inconsistencies in the firmware rollouts, but both of these were deleted by the moderator as 'unhelpful', so good luck with that
Edit: If you change your mind about flashing your firmware, I wrote a how to
