Not sure if I have buyer's remorse, but the Nexus 7 seems a little redundant to have if I already own a Galaxy Nexus. Considering the screen size is only 2" bigger, not really sure how much I'm gaining.
I already have a Touchpad, so that only adds to the redundancy...
I would have said you are truly blessed...
The Nexus for tethering, and the Nexus 7 for a far better reading / movie experience, not to mention web browsing.
When you get your tablet, come back and let us know how you like the pair.
I've already got a Galaxy Nexus, a Transformer Prime, and a Nook Color. Talk about redundancy, lol.
I wasn't planning on getting the Nexus 7, but the Nook Color just isn't doing it for me as a carputer anymore, so I'm giving it the boot in favor of the 7. Should be fun.
I've got a Galaxy Nexus with unlimited data, bring on the hot spot!

Me too. Should be good. Haha. I'd be even more happy if it was a 10" tab.
I'm pretty excited about both devices having NFC. I'm planning on setting up my GNex & N7 so that I just get in my car and bump them together to get everything ready to go:
- Enable hotspot on the phone
- Turn on WiFi on the tablet
- Turn on bluetooth on the tablet (for connection to car stereo, torque, etc)
- Launch Torque on the tablet
- etc.
There are probably apps that could do all this, but I think I might build something small and lightweight myself just to play around with NFC.

I have the Galaxy Nexus and ordered Nexus 7 last week.
I don't understand the whole NFC thing but plan to figure out what I can do with it.
Btw, off topic but what/how can I spend that $10.00 we got for setting up Google Wallet?

My use for the N7 will be mostly for ebook reading and e-pinching.

I'm letting my Gf have the Galaxy tab for her studys so I was in the market for a new tablet..

I have a Galaxy Nexus and pre ordered the Nexus 7. I am deathly afraid of bricking my phone with an unlock and updated rom. I have much less reservation with unlocking a tablet. Also looking forward to seeing Jellybean on phone. My current galaxy nexus, while a great phone, still lags like hell even with 4.04. I am hoping that Jellybean makes it run like it should have when I bought it back in December. Fingers crossed.
VZW Galaxy Nexus unlimited data here. Sold my CM7 Nook Tablet on Craigslist to buy the Nexus 7 8GB, I only had to add in $25 bucks(Nook Tablet was a gift), so that's not a bad deal.
just pre ordered mine at gamestop.

i ordered the N7 and want to get a Nexus I currently have a Galaxy S Blaze 4G and will prolly look to sell it in a few weeks so i can pick up the Nexus
So I am on the fence. I currently have the s3 and I am trying to hold out with the mindset that Sammy will release some updates in the near future that will smooth this puppy out a little more ( less dropped frames) and bring some of the software enhancements found in the s4. I have been wanting the s4 since before its release today I found what I think to be a killer deal. A girl in my area on craiglist has a new in the box s4 and she is asking 400 for it. By far the cheapest I have seen on craiglist to date. My big too is that my contract is up and I really don't want to renew it cause I am also thinking of switching providers as sprints 3g data speeds and coverage is real shotty in Vegas. What are your guys thoughts is it really worth the upgrade?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
I upgraded from the s3 and while I dont think its a huge update, I totally love the screen. Its so crisp and bright. I used my mom's upgrade since she wanted my s3 but if I didnt have the option, i would of just waited til next year to upgrade
I traded my S3 into Best Buy and got $262.50 the had them price match Amazon on the S4 for $599. So I paid $385 off contract after tax. The phone is great and I still have my upgrade on July 1st still.

That's a really good idea. The other route I was thinking of going is getting the 400 dollar one of craiglist then trying to sell mine for 300 that way I am only put of pocket 100 and stiff have no contract.

If you do get that phone I would tell the person to meet you at a Sprint corporate store and activate the device while they are there. As a safety precaution of not getting a phone with a bad esn or something stolen that can't be activated.

I wouldn't. Your only improvement is the 1080p screen. You will be able to do anything with the S3 that you can do on the 4. At least until the S5 or Note 3 come out. But buy the S4 and sell it for a profit. Never waist a good deal

I just bought a s4 on craigslist for $450 un-opened and sold my s3 for $300.. so I've spent $150. And I love the upgrade! If you can get the s4 for $100 (after selling your s3) I would jump on it, you won't regret it. And yes meet at the sprint dealer, or call sprint and check the esn right there before you give them money. That's what I did.

Nuh-uh! I have ir blaster and can tell you the temperature and stuff!
But in all seriousness, I have yet to find what my n2, works s3, and hell, even my e4gt lacked over this for personal/business use.
One thing is for certain; this phone has better hardware for signal and net speed over the rest in the po-dunk town I live in.
Still excited for the n3 but I don't, overall, regret getting this.

I'd buy that S4, sell the S3 and remain off contract for the S5. You're pretty much paying contract price for the S4, and it will probably command more $$ than the S3 when the S5 is out. Seems like a no brainer to me.
And I gave my S3 to another rep to keep her contract open, have the Note 2 on my line and have it on ebay now with 17 people watching and good bidding going on. Picked up the S4 on a spare line that gets used as a dummy company phone where the Hero works just fine. So selling the Note 2 will net me close to $200, and I have the one contract open to pick up the S5 or god forbid a premium slider for the next go around. That should be "The Next Big Thing" that will most likely not happen.
The screen is a touch nicer. I like the extra screen real estate for typing, especially coming off the Note 2. The res bump is noticeable but not that dramatic. The extra horses, IR blaster and sensors are a nice bonus too.
And not that it matters, but you'll have more bragging rights around the iphone 5S crowd. I work with a bunch of iphone owners who are starting to turn on their iphones (especially the 5), but still like to raz.

The S4 is a great update compared one thing dual core version quad better display ir blaster 4.2.2 them right there only make it a major update from the S3. The thing is the list goes on and on. Had E4GT.
Upgraded to S3 - Huge improvement. Can't even try to compare.
Upgraded to S4 - Huge improvement.
S3 and S4 may be look alike but there is almost nothing alike inside them.
There are huge improvments and updates on both hardware and software levels.
The list is too long to type it up.
As for service here in Las Vegas.
I'm starting to get more and more 4G signals. Speed is still not to impressive 4.5-7.5 Mb/s but this is a good start.
Apperantly sprint is building his 4G LTE network here and doing it rather fast.
To get a better idea I would suggest to try the phone in store or may be one of your friends has it.
I think ones you get a feel of it you won't think twice to switch.

I have to agree with everything here. I have had basically every Galaxy, though I started with the OG G1 on Tmobile, and I can say every upgrade is substantial in my eyes.
Like Agat said, the design is similar, but that's because Samsung is trying to establish a brand with the Galaxy series looking similar to another with small design improvements as they move a long. Personally I love how the S4 looks compared to the S3, way less rounded and flatter, more candy bar shaped you could say and it feels a lot better in hand.
But design aside, the core of the device has improved all around, way better camera, way better screen, faster processor, better battery, and plenty plenty more. It is what it is, it's an upgrade, every new phone isn't going to be completely different and etc. I love my S4 and don't regret getting it one bit. As development here on XDA as well as apps that fully utilize the power of this device come out, the upgrade will become more and more visible.
Just a BTW, what I did was sell my S3 on craigslist for 350, (I kept all the original boxing, pamphlets, headphones, etc and the phone was in mint condition as I had thrown on a dope screen protector and case on day 1) so I was able to sell it for a good price, I actually sold it to a developer that works for some mobile development company so it was pretty cool haha. But yeah, then I just used one of my family members upgrades since they could care less about their phone and switched over the device to my line.:thumbup::thumbup:

I always save the box, paperwork, and accessories. Never touch any of the accessories. Figure the more something looks like new, the more you'll get for it. And my Note 2 went for almost $450 on ebay. Good pics also help generate interest.

I have 4 lines family plan with 6 months staggered upgrades available.
I take most updates since my kids and my wife are using some of my stuff.
So they don't mind to follow me half year later....
Say what? Already?
Built in Gps & 4Gb....why must they do this to early adopters (and so soon). I can't complain, mine was free with my Note 3, but I still feel a bit...meh.
"The Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 will reportedly launch as an all-Android device which means you won't have to own either the Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3 or Galaxy S3.
According to Pocket-Lint, Samsung's next-generation Smart Watch will come sporting in-built GPS along with 4GB of onboard memory, it'll also come with running and music apps straight out of the box, something which the original Galaxy Gear was criticised for not having.
It's not clear whether Samsung will keep the same design as the original Galaxy Gear or whether the company will decide to make some changes there as well in light of the fact that it would work with any Android smartphone.
Whilst it may seem as though this is a very short turnaround for a company to be releasing an update it's actually something Samsung has plenty of practise at with the Galaxy range being constantly updated throughout the year."

we don't need that. galaxy gear is perfectly capable of running internet browser and navigation apps, it just need custom rom for that.
they need to update the software and get rid of touchwiz, it will never be usefull.
Galaxy range being constantly updated throughout the year.
say what? they barely make updates, and when they do they do not work properly leaving the user with broken software for MONTHS.
CES 2014 does not mean they will start selling it it the middle of January either.
I like two things,
A display that does not need to time out in 5 seconds
Double the battery life (even though the gear has great battery life now)
They better make the first gear, compatible with all phones so at least we can get some resale value.

Wow, only ordered one last night. Now question is, do I cancel and wait six months? Now I have typed it out in front of me I say hell no...
Why?
With the work that FOmey and others are doing, why go for 2.0. I have a browser, Nova Launcher, etc. Does far more than my Pebble and getting much more every day. This is what I bought mine for. Other than a few minor thing, it is doing more than I thought it could less than 6 weeks after release. I'm sure we will get TWRP or CWM soon, so we'll have all we need. The hardware is already great, so I'm enjoying it. I'll be buying 2.0 down the road, being a hardware junkie, but this has been so much fun already.

+1 - Also if the phone is not getting the updates thats due to the cel company's not pushing them out, Because Samsung is.
Also if it was to come out soon I would keep my current Gear. and get the new one. But what if it does not have all that I want and have to wait for cool roms again to make it mine. (OK, OK, I could just do it the old fashioned way) But this is why I love being Married, Her wife have my Gear, Dang now I need one, Time to get the Gear 2. LOL Did that with the Note 2 to the Note 3, gave her my note 2 and got me then note 3. I love my understanding wife.)
From what I read, the first great was to test the market. I was about to buy one but now I will wait a few months. It's hard to keep up with innovation and technology and Samsung is at the forefront. Very similar to what the did What the s3 to the s4.. I believe it was 9 months between them.

I've got a lot of wearables (Pebble, Gear, Fitbit, Glass, etc.) and the Gear beats them all by a wide margin based on functionality, ease of use and looks.
I'm still baffled that nearly every review and comment I see still bashes it.
Especially with the latest updates it has become a great device.
I don't understand that either. I mean my only complaint is that I haven't been pushed the new update but I plan to manually do so anyways and the battery life isn't the greatest. But honestly what do you expect from a watch that does so much? I'm happy I don't see what everyone else's problem is. Maybe they expected to strap it on and start curing cancer or something... Its a watch people.

You hit the nail on the head. I have the Quallcom Toq in addition to the Galaxy Gear, and the only better feature with the Toq is their interferometric modulator*display technology (Mirasol display). With this technology, 3 to 5 days battery life can be obtained with heavy usage if the backlight is not used, but the display itself is always on and readable, and actually becomes more readable in direct sunlight. With the display always lit, it appears less nerdy than a blank faced (no display) smartwatch. Bottom line is, I'd rather have one full days battery life out of a useful smartwatch, than 3 to 5 days of battery life from a smartwatch that is only marginally useful and is clunky in its operation. With note 3 tucked in pocket, on a ladder installing an in ceiling speaker, I can answer a call on the Galaxy Gear from my wife, so she can tell me she crashed into my car that was parked in our garage. True story.
Could it be better, sure.... But for a company that took a chance to beat Apple to the mass production line, it is pretty impressive.
My 2 cents worth.
Completely agree with you. I bought a metawatch when it first came out as a developer watch. It was awesome at the time, but the gear blows it out of the water. I mean, battery life isn't bad. I think people read the 25 hours and think it's true. When I first got my gear, I couldn't put it down and still got 2 full days. Now I'm getting close to 4 days. With the notification update, this thing just got way cooler and more useful. It just keeps getting better and better every day. I can't help but to think that people that give it bad reviews either have not really owned one or have not used it to it's potential.

I watched a ton of reviews on YouTube, and while they were all basically saying cool device but lots of problems, there was one similarity. They were ALL done within the first week or two of release. Before a lot of the issues were addressed (namely the notification issue). Even reviews released late November were actually using pre-updated information.
Under my daily usage (heavy notifications, reminders, calls and pictures), I get easily 1.5 days. And since I charge my phone every night anyways, it's no biggie to charge my watch as well. I used to take my regular watch off every night as well, now the only difference is an additional charging cord.
I'm happy with battery life, amazed at how much they crammed into a watch (seriously, this is a WATCH, and look at its capabilities, not even with rooting and such), and am not even mad about the price (my wife bought me a watch a few years ago for about half the cost, and all it has going for it is a few small diamonds inlaid in it. All IT can do is tell me the time)
Sent from my SM-N900W8 using xda app-developers app
I've checked out all other reviews on other watches, And my gear do way more than those other watches
Would be nice if it worked with other Android devices though, Like my Nexus 5.
Sometimes the Note is a little large for where I'm going so the N5 is ideal & the Gear would complement it brilliantly.
Hey guys i got a couple of question, I have the pebble watch so when the notification comes on the watch and you view it does it clear it from the phone? also with the pebble watch the talkback system on the phone turns on so that means when i use the stock browser the voice says like "page loading or page loaded" im guessing the gear doesnt do that right?
The device was bound to get bad reviews because of the limited functionality, and limited usability before it was available to the current crop of smartphones.
And even then, you have the issues that Google Wallet faced when it was first released... if it only works with a couple of phones to do a few things, people are going to be quick to dismiss it as a "gimmick"
And it doesn't help when it's not a cheap gimmick as well. Unless you're a serious tinkerer -- like most of the people reading this thread -- you have to be seriously committed to not just Android but to the Samsung ecosystem as a whole in order to actually enjoy spending $300 on this smartwatch.
If Samsung releases a complete solution that would allow the Gear to work with ANY Android phone that supports Bluetooth LE, and work flawlessly without any tinkering, then you'll see a turnaround in the reviews -- much like you saw with the Gear Manager update that allowed additional notifications.
Their application development for the Gear is invite-only, so even if you had access to an SDK you couldn't publish any apps for use with the watch -- again, unless it was restricted to people "like us" that don't mind going out of their way to push an apk and sideload it to their watch, at the risk of turning it into a brick.
It's going to take some doing, and I don't know if Samsung will actually do what is necessary for this particular generation of the Gear to become a mainstream device. I'm glad I got one, but in retrospect it's really a lot of hard work to fully extract its potential. Until Samsung addresses this, I doubt you'll see many stellar reviews.
Like many of you, I am eligible for upgrade now. And like many of you, I am frustrated by the eternally locked bootloader. So where do you all plan to go from here? I've looked at the Note 5 and S6 Edge+. I have the Note tablet with stylus so I don't really need it in a phone. The Nexus 6p looks great except needs payment upfront. Also, it seems like AT&T Next plan isn't such a great deal. I have Project Fi but I'm not sure on that either. Seems no obvious great option. What do you all think

The Note 5 is just sexy if you can get it in platinum or gold. I am unrooted and enjoying Samsung Pay quite a bit. There are a lot of promotions going on right now with the Note 5/S6+ and Samsung pay if that helps any
