So I encrypted the phone is there a way to use fingerprint scanner as lock screen security?
Yes. Go into your device settings. Thrn search for finger. Setup your fingerprint. Once you are done with that go into your lock screen settings and choose finger.

When I encrypted the finger scanner unlock option is greyed out. After testing I came to the conclusion when I encrypted It removes option. When decrypted option is avail.

I setup my fingerprint option and setup an alternative password. For the live of me I thought I picked a 4 digit number code last night but it's not accepting it today. What can I do?
It has to be two letters included with the password.
Your fingerprint isn't registering?

Yes, print works fine. Silly me forgot what I chose for the alternate password. That might help.
No, that didn't help. I have forgot the alternative password. The only way to unlock my phone is my fingerprint scan. This Sucks! There should be a way to recover it!
Hi, same happened to me yesterday, I cannot find a way to recover the "alternative password" for the fingerprint scanner. Have you found a solution yet? I guess a factory reset will do but I really don't want to do this after all the setup stuff I'm tru...
Solution
Found the solution: Delete all the fingerprints registered (verifying by fingerprint or alternative password) inside the Fingerprint manager. When all registered prints are removed, the lock screen will go back to swipe.

As an FYI; it has to be at least one letter instead of two. I wrote it down this time.

Kicking myself that I couldn't figure this out! I also somehow forgot my "alternative password" and this worked like a charm to reset it.
Thanks!

Thank you so much.
It's working.
Although this is a direct way, you won’t be able to see any of the options directly on
the lock screen because its hidden and you need to try the Alternative password for a few times until the “Unlock via Google” option appears.
It generally needs a minimum of 5 trials and fails for the Alternative password
before you go back to the lock screen and see the Google unlock option.

OR
You have two options:
Delete all fingerprints (by going into settings & long pressing on the finger print, selecting remove) and recreate them. This will also clear you alternate password.
Go to Android Device Manager, and setup the remote lock & erase feature if you haven't already. Once setup use the lock feature to reset your password. It will allow you to change your "screen-unlock" password

There are two ways on how to unlock your Samsung Galaxy S, follow these steps:
Method 1: To unlock your Samsung Galaxy S, you can use your Google username and password to unlock your Samsung Galaxy S,
but these requires internet connection to access your Google account.
Method 2: To unlock your Samsung Galaxy S, you need to hard reset your phone, to reset its password and restore default settings, but doing this process will also delete all save files and data on your phone.
Hard Reset:
1. Turn off your phone.
2. Press and hold Volume button up + Home button + power button to enter recovery option.
3. Use your Volume button to navigate option and use home button to confirm.
4. Navigate "Wipe out data/factory reset" and confirm.
5. Navigate "Yes -- delete all user data" and confirm.
6. Navigate "Reboot system now" and confirm.
7. Done. Note: Before your hard reset your phone, make sure that you backup first the important files and data.

Assuming the fingerprint scanner still works, unlock your phone, then go to settings - finger scanner - change alternative password, run your fingerprint then you will be able to set a new password. No need to delete your fingerprints this way.
I can not use finger print on my galaxy 5s any longer now it is asking for alternative password, which I do not remember, help, do not want to factory reset.
Have you guys heard of or found any apps that use the scanner? I found one called Last Pass which is actually pretty good. But I want more.

I use the Finger Security app which allows you to pick the apps you want to use the fingerprint scanner to secure when opening.

Cool app. Thanks for sharing the link.
You can set this app up to use your fingerprint to login instead of entering login credentials
Check out "LastPass Password Mgr Premium*"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lastpass.lpandroid
With LastPass you still have to enter in the primary password since fingerprint reader support is for reprompt only; or am I missing something in the settings? Any advice on how to set it up?
Edit: Never mind. Needed to set never log out option in addition to the fingerprint reprompt option.
Has anyone found an app that can turn on the lock screen? Plenty can disable the lock screen but I guess KitKat restrictions make it harder to enable it.
I would like to have a quick or automatic way of disabling it when I'm at home then turn it back on when I'm elsewhere, but so far all the apps I've tried fail with the enabling part despite giving them admin access. I guess rooting is the only way round this?

Yup, rooting is just about the only way to get it done. However, if you fiddle around, you just might be able to do it unrooted using this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.autoinput
I think using pin/number password is the only way it could work since, at least when I tried it out, the app only supports tap input, not swipes.
I've successfully used it to enable/disable flight mode, which is otherwise also impossible nowadays without root.
Those new restrictions are completely senseless IMHO.
Root way: combination of Secure Settings and Tasker
Pin unlock doesn't require root. I had to switch to this method.
Thanks all... will try that app and also using just pin unlock
Our device can have upto 5 fingerprints. Does anyone know if there is some app that can lock the apps only with the fingerprint I specify.
Like for eg. I have 5 fingerprints of two different persons and I don't want the other person to unlock a specific app through his/her fingerprint.
Instead I specify that say that so and so app will be unlocked through Finger 1.
Is this even possible??

There's a feature called app locker in security and fingerprint and that allows to set up different apps to be opened only with fingerprint or other secured methods like pin password or pattern

Yes but that uses all the available fingerprints, not a specific fingerprint which i can specify
Bump... Anyone??
No I don't think that's possible.
Bumping again with hope
Sorry
maybe download another app lock app from the play store and register only your fingerprints?

I dont think any such feature exist in Android. I had this feature in my jail broken iPhone where we can assign different actions for all registered fingerprints. I am also looking forward to get this feature in Android .

I see no developer has replied on this thread yet. The feature does not exist but if iPhone can have it then Android can too.
Hope to see a skilled developer here who can make this possible.
Thank you
Hi guys, so I've just updated to Oreo, and I found out that I can't use any biometrics anywhere unless I choose a "secure" screen lock! Is there a workaround for this? I've never used neither iris, nor face recognition nor fingerprint on my phone but always on apps. I can't do this anymore, the thing that bothers me the most is that I switched from Chrome to samsung internet to use samsung pass which of course now doesn't work unless I change my lock settings
Yes I'd like to know this. But I'm afraid the answer is no. Oreo is not a good step for Android in my opinion. There are lots of things no longer implimented or have been made clumsy and complicated.
