So if i root my phone and let's say that someday it messes up or gets broken and it tripped Knox and call off the warranty, what can I do so the tmobile guys don't see that my phone has been rooted and that Knox didn't get tripped?

They don't know what knox mean most of them not all. so if you decide to return your phone or jump just flash stock rom. N4 doesn't have knox anyways. Samsung took it down due a security issue. so you will be fine.

knox app itself is not there. no one will know unless they boot into the bootloader. it's not going to effect anyways. knox is for samsung warranty. Tmobile care less. if the phone is in working condition and no damage so you good to go.

Well...I flashed my note 3 back to stock and tried to warranty it. I even tricked the status to say that it wasnt rooted, but they hooked it up to a machine. They could read it. So regardless, it says "custom" on their screen and i couldnt warranty it.

Something went really really wrong with mine. Everything worked but i could NOT get calls to work unless on wifi calling. I flashed many many roms, kernels, etc. Nothing seemed to work. So under my year factory warranty i tried to get a replacement. I went in, they hooked it up and then said PC LOAD LETTER...TURN AROUND...NO SOUP FOR YOU!!
So i ended up selling it as is for parts. Still got $365

yeah you should kept it until your upgrade and they don't check. But for warranty they check it for sure. $365 is not bad at all.
you should have just taken it to a different store; I've NEVER seen one of those machines in any tmobile store I have been to
Me neither, didn't even know they existed lol

Short answer, no.
We all know t mobile don't check for root so why bother yourself with this
g3 soon to be NOTE 4
its all these IBone converts that are flocking to this phone..
They're so used to Apple telling them what they can and can not do, that they dont yet know how to handle the freedom of Android/T-Mobile..
i'm just going to assume you're directing that at someone else. i've been using using android for quite some time. there was no knox when i rooted my phone before.
i don't buy insurance from tmobile so they won't be the one that's handling my warranty issues if something happens.
Like the OP, I refuse to waste money on Carrier insurance, and my previous phones did not have Knox. So it remains an important issue if you are relying on Samsung warranty. It's clear that existing root will trip Knox. My question is - what is the chance that there will be a root that does not trip knox in the future. Is it worth waiting or is knox considered to be bulletproof?
Edit: and no, I never owned an iPhone, and all my Androids have been rooted so far.
From what I read nobody has been able to break the Knox that Samsung share this knowledge with Google.
If the phone died and no fault of your own, Samsung will not take it back even if Knox is tripped?
Im not expert but I think that Samsung has to have a way to remove " tripped Knox flag " or any phone with hardware failure and Knox flag tripped would have no resale value if, for example, usb port is replaced.

it IS too early to ask; the phone has been out for a few days, so if you're paranoid about rooting because of tripping Knox, you'll have to just wait around and see, or develop an exploit and share it with the rest of the folks who feel they need it..
I've given back a Note 2 and a Note 3, KNOX wasn't out for Note 2 but it was rooted. Note 3 had a counter of like 12, as stated above, T-Mobile doesn't check.

This couldn't be any more true. I've rooted every phone I've had with them that could be rooted and never once had them turn me down for an exchange or replacement unit. Hell I think I replaced my old one s maybe seven or eight times over the years I had it and I even stopped flashing it back to stock and just sent it back. Not like it's super hard for them to clean it all back up to stock.
I'm certain that when you return a phone to most vendors, they just throw it into the "defect" pile, and those phones either gets wiped and re-imaged, or they send them to some 3rd party who buys them cheap and does that on their own.
after spending many years as a director of sales for a consumer electronics company, I know how expensive it is to try and inspect/repair returns, so I cant imagine that Samsung/t mobile/att and who ever else even bothers to look at them.
If you think about the thousands of phones coming back as returns every day, handling them any more than absolutely necessary is a major losing proposition for these companies, and they only care about profit. When you return your rooted/knoxed/bricked phone, they NEVER repair it, you just get a new or rebuilt one sent out to you.
But hey, if you want to worry about tripping Knox or sending in a rooted phone, and that you will be in trouble/charged/punished for that, then you just go ahead and keep thinking that!:cyclops::cyclops:

I just got my T-mobile S6 (coming from an S5). This is the first time I buy the phone directly from T-mobile and not from a third party. I also signed up for the JUMP program which includes the device insurance. I know that if you root the device it will trip KNOX on it, which I know it affects warranty from Samsung. My question is will have KNOX tripped effect me with T-mobile if I ever have to get the phone serviced or trade it in for a new one?

I root all of my phones from TMobile and on my Note 4 for example which I used the Warrenty Exchange a couple times due to my camera going bad, I left the phone rooted and with tripped knox and my account never got flagged or anything.
You shouldnt have anything to worry about.
I did always keep a rom that was as close to stock as possible though with root and custom recovery and like I said i never had a problem.
As long as it looks stock with stock boon animations you shouldnt have any problems.
Thats my 2 cents though.

Pretty sure factory reset in settings can fix this.
Glad to hear that flashing back to stock using Odin won't trip Knox. And no Factory Reset doesn't take away root access as I tried that.

That's not true, any modification to the phone voids the warranty. I think burning the efues and permanently making Samsung pay unusable counts as a modification. Let's not fool ourselves, once tmobile realizes that knox tripped = no S pay they will check. I replaced my phone because of a loose home button after tripping knox but I was upfront about tripping it. The manager said he appreciated my honesty but they don't check it at the moment, but he as the manager knowing it was tripped could refuse the swap. You might be asking yourself why would you tell them that? Well I don't like taking advantage of a system until after it has f***** with me, tmobile has yet to do that.

I can't help it, honesty is a weakness of mine. Luckily it never seems to bite me in the butt.
So I went out and exchanged my iPhone 6+ for a Galaxy S6 with T-Mobile, and I rooted it using the PingPong Root as to not trip KNOX. So tonight I wanted to flash TWRP and though the hell with KNOX, I do what I want. So I used flashify and installed TWRP through the app and everything went smoothly, and even flashed a custom kernel. Then I thought, heh wonder if KNOX tripped, went in to download mode and to my surprise, my KNOX was tripped but not with 0x0001 but with 0x0208! I googled it and never saw anyone else post anything about it, so I thought I would post and ask, did I screw something up?
EDIT: will add pictures in the morning when I can grab my girlfriends phone

You were ok until you flashed TWRP and custom kernel, which tripped Knox. No real harm done, but you can't take it back to T-Mobile and ask for another one. They will laugh you out the door
So now that you are full fledged modder, you might as well flash a debloated rom and have fun with it. Who knows . . . maybe @mikeyinid will bring Xposed to us, if some folks aren't blowing smoke up our asses.
If I understand it correctly knox warranty doubles as a flash counter. So if you flash a kernel it should be 0x0001 then if you flash 207 more times it would be 0x0208. I'm assuming knox glitched out on a flash or for what ever reason something insecure was flashed 208 times. Perhaps it's a malicious app with root access doing stuff knox dislikes?
T-Mobile does not care if you return the phone with a tripped Knox flag and here's why: even if you return or exchange an untouched phone in immaculate condition that phone is not put back for sale. It's sent back to the manufacturer where it gets reflashed and brought back to factory like state.
As a precaution, I always return phones on the activation screen. Why: so the rep doesn't have to factory reset so there's no need for him to see the boot up screen or recovery.
That being said I wouldn't push my luck and return a Samsung phone running CM.

I realize T-Mobile returns phones to OEMs before reselling them as refurbished. But T-Mobile does not have to warranty a phone that has been modified from original state (eg, rooted, Knox tripped, etc). Whether or not they will exchange a modded device depends on the rep you talk to. The other day, I called a local T-Mobile store and asked the MOD whether they would exchange a phone that is rooted or Knox tripped, and he made it very clear they would not. So you are taking your chances returning such a device. It is always best to restore a device to stock before returning it.

If I wanted to return a modded phone, I certainly would not call ahead to see if they'd take it. I have no intention of returning mine. The only reason I called was because it came up in another thread, and I had nothing better to do at the time besides make a call to the nearest T-Mobile. My point is, you never really know if a store will take it back. People should not make blanket statements assuring others they can return modded phones, because it depends on the rep you deal with. If the rep is in a good mood and feeling generous, your chances are pretty good. But if the rep wants to be a douchbag, they have a right to refuse a modded phone. I agree most reps will do anything to keep a customer, but you are still rolling the dice when you try to return a modded phone.

I called T-Mobile, they said they will put am insurance on my phone and give me a replacement.
So $8 for insurance and $5 for processing fee.
I only told them the device wouldn't power on, they didn't ask me if I rooted my phone or not.

So will T-Mobile be able to tell I rooted my phone even after a hard bricked?
Will they charge me if they find out?

Clicked reboot after it finished, it never rebooted.
I tried everything, no signs of life.
Got a replacement phone through T-Mobile Premium Handset Insurance, have to send the old one back.

Should I damage the micro USB port on purpose to render it useless?

Doubt it. Don't intentionally break it. They may catch you at that. If the screen won't come on you are probably fine. When you connect it to your computer does your pc recognize it? Try that first. Only reason I say that is if I were you I'd want to wipe the data from the phone, otherwise some tmobile tech is going to look at all your picture and everything while they reflash the phone.

But my knox is still tripped.
Should I worry about my knox?
I really don't think they'll know/care. I recently jumped from a Note 10.1 with a cracked screen to a Tab S2 in a store ($175 deductible ). The Note was rooted w/ custom rom and I just straight up factory reset it in the store right before trading it in and had no problem at all.
If you're sending it in on an insurance claim I think you might be sending it to Assurion rather than Tmo, who I think cares even less. Either way, you should be fine. Nothing to worry about

But you are doing a jump, and the device is working.
In my case, my phone wouldn't turn on, they might consider it's software problem and check it.
Going to cross my finger :/
Tmobile doesn't ever check for root in any circumstance. They only check if the screen is cracked or if the phone powers on.
It is a possibility that they will check, however it is remote the fact is they've already sent you a new phone.
No, they don't care. I talk to the girl in Tmobile all the time about it and they never check, they are told it doesn't matter. And the fact that I've rooted every person at the stores Note 3 and Note 4 for them.
