So I know using anything other than stock rom slot is really unstable right now. What I was really wondering is whether or not flashing different roms over and over again has any negative effect on one slot. basically can it be overused and burned out? Or is the purpose only for ease of multiple different roms at one time?

Flash memory wears out after about 10000 cycles of writing and erasing. I doubt that you will flash that many number of ROMs on your phone in your, or your phone's, lifetime.

Hi, my milestone has been randomly rebooting since well the 2.2 ota update, I thought putting a custom rom (HoNO and the current one FroyoMod)would fix it but nope, though it appeared to be less frequent though lately (again anecdotally) it seems to happening more. I'm using a "new" sim card (from my hero, which never rebooted) but still same issue. It doesn't take too long and I rather avoid doing anything too complex but its annoying so if anyone has a possible solution it'd be very welcomed.

It's possible that they are DSI reboots. Try applying the latest DSI-fix by Kabaldan.

I'm assuming you mean forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1210819 that? Installation looks a little above my head (though I could have easily misinterpreted it) so don't think I'd risk it but thank you very much for the suggestion.

Im just wondering if it possible to fry/brick your phone if you flash your rom and kernel to many times, and if so how many times is to many??
And this has been taken up fpr question before, please redirect me to the right thread since i didnt find anything
//tia inveh
Not really, that is unless you consider the fact there's always a certain (incredibly small) risk of bricking when flashing in general.
If you want to minimize the risk, follow guidelines; make sure cables are intact, and use Linux+Heimdall, that's my advice...

can you fry your phone?
well i wouldnt want to but you can dip it in batter and fry it in oil. season with salt/pepper. battery melts like cheese.
Deep fried silicone tastes fantastic.

Like burakgon said you can fry it only when you overvolt too much. It's better to stay under 1250mV for int and under 1500mV arm. Flashing has nothing to do with frying device, cause every phone can have about 50k-100k flashes before memory breakes.
then i'll go on as usual and flash awaaaaaaay =)
thanks for all the inputs and thoughts and such

I've tried clean Rom and stock w/extras and both are significantly heavier on the battery than factory stock.
What would you recommend for a lite stock Rom?
Have you tried under clocking?
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
I have not.
Wouldn't know where to start to be honest.
I was hoping for something good to go out of the box.
May seem an odd question, but can I still flash back to factory?

Yes, you can. It's not that hard to return your phone to factory, so flash away (well, within reason avoid GSM ROMS obviously, and be aware of AOSP-related bugs).
It's not too hard to underclock either if you're using a good performance managing app. And although it's been knocked a bit lately, ROM Toolbox does have CPU control if memory serves me right. HTC's built in power saver app doesn't do a half bad job (same with Qualcomm's BatteryGuru).

Hey there. New to the one and was wondering if there were any cm10 roms that can be flashed with s-on
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
As far as I understand it, any ROM can be flashed s-on without issue on the One (caveat below). It's different than the 3D. But the revone method of s-off is super easy so it's worth doing (see my web signature for a link). Also, from my understanding, some people have bricked their Ones trying to flash AOSP ROMs. I think s-off people have better luck with it.

The Sense ones. I use the Team 420 one, but I'm biased. The Team D3rp one is really good too. I haven't tried any others though so try others and find your favorite.

The Two That I know of and have done my self are Viper and cyanogenmod. I have not take the step to s off yet as I am very new to this and am learning before I do just as you described (Brick my phone). You can easily find these two ROMs here on this site.
ViperROM v1.1.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2241016
CyangenMod
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?type=nightly&device=m7spr
and that is where I got the ones I used as well.
It does matter which carrier you have as I made that mistake and was in bootloop which you dont want to do.
For information on that see this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2353956
FWIW I was one of the people who got bricked, and I and some others helped to compile a list of victims. The last brick was on 6/29 after which the kernel was really overhauled.
Most (including me) are calling the bug squashed.

Bricking a phone would def suck! but i was under the impression, and maybe im wrong, that there is usually a way to fix it. Again im no pro but i kind of jumped into the whole rooting thing without knowing ANYTHING about it on my 3D and never seemed to mess it up more than having to flash a new RUU at worst. anyway i really love the IllusionRom. but cant seem to get google wallet to work, which is kind of a bummer. but i also really love Sense 5, and dont mind using stock one bit. I suggest going for it and checking everything out, more than likely you'll be fine. best of luck

A brick can never be recovered. It must be replaced. A BORK can pretty much always be fixed via ADB.
Also, I heard there was a workaround for the wallet issue. Just search it up. It has something to do with the build . prop.

Or if not ADB, judicious use of fastboot and RUU. I cut my teeth on a Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, and after a three-month long recovery process, nothing the HTC One can pull is likely to faze me anymore.
Anyway, there are certain devices that can be recovered from a low-level brick (assuming by brick we're saying a device is completely non-responsive to input, hardware and software wise) but it's pretty involved at the best of times.
Hey guys and girls of the xda community
I just wanted some advice on flashing a custom rom if possible?
My doubts and concerns arose when my first HTC one wouldn't charge whatsoever, and since then I'm a little bit sceptical about flashing a custom rom in case it happens again in which case HTC or my network provider won't replace my phone again.
Is the whole "not charging" thing related to hardware or software?
Just wanted some advice before I get back "in the game" for the want of a better phrase
Thanks guys and girls

I've had my One 5 months now and when I got it I vowed to keep it stock.... a week later I was up and running with ARHD and have run every version since then without any charging issues. Don't know if this will help your decision.

I can't say one way or the other to be 100% sure.... wait and see who else reponds
I got my one in March 2013, flashed it to death, including GPe conversion.
Then after many months I got a charge problem.
Phone would charge extremely slowly when screen on, no more than 200 to 300mA.
My first thought was I had caused with error in flash. I had two genuine HTC charger, one new with HTC One and other from One X. Swapping chargers didn't help.
Eventually ordered another genuine HTC charger and cable, result charges at 800 to 900+ mA when screen on.
Problem solved: cost £16 ($25)

I have messed with with roms and jailbreaks a ton and have never had any issues that made me think I broke it. You probably had a hardware issue and were just hypersensitive. There are some software options on a few of the roms to allow quick charging. I bet you 10 to one you had a legit hardware issue or your charging gear was bad. The cords break all the time around the entrance to the phone....iphone android doesnt matter. They all fail to reenforce these areas of the chords. I would start there.
