Trying to understand the app exclusion list. If I turn on extended standby, my understanding is no apps can communicate when the screen is off. Does putting an app on the list still allow it to do so? Ie would I still get live hangouts messages?
Yes if you put apps in the list those apps are still allowed to use data with the screen off.

Thanks. What about queue background data? Is there any way to still get push notifications?
I'm actually finding extended standby to cause issues because the apps that can't communicate just keep trying and keep the phone awake

You need extended standby to be on though if you want to use STAMINA mode. They are basically one and the same. If you notice when you have ES on and turn it off, it turns off the STAMINA mode switch too.

judging on the screenshot you have dude, I'd say you have one massive wakelocks on your phone. It seemed that your data connection is always on. Wifi, 3G and etc.
My rule of law (I'm not sure if this will apply to you, but you can give it a try if you like), is... Use only data connection (Wifi/3G/BT) on a need to basis. What that means is, you can turn it off all your data connections and turn it ON ONLY when you need to. Your phone's always awake all the time. That explains the wakelocks your phone is getting, plus coupled the fact that there are some background apps syncing continuously. That's one of the causes on your drains.

Hey
I never have data on thoe. I've been home so wifi has been on. I only usw data if I'm at work on shift etc and I've not worked for over two months. I do have Google syncing and whatsapp always stays on even when I turn it off it comes on by itself. The rest are off.
Can't understand why it says data is on as I never use it much at all but wifi I use alot yes I admit but I don't leave it running. Anything I can do?
Cheers

well, Is Google syncing really that important to you? You have to bear in mind what is really needed and what is just wanting it.
If Google Sync is not that much important, then you can turn that off. With regards to Wifi, you can also change that to sleep mode (settings> wifi settings/advanced/wifi sleep policy)
Wifi is a big battery drainer in every aspects as well and like I've said before.. if you don't necessarily need to connect to the internet.. then turn your WIFI off and 3G mobile data OFF. Just enable it when you like to use it and turn it off after your done using it.

Thanks for the tips but yeh I do not leave data or wifi on. Mainly use wifi so I'm sure that's part of it. I could leave Google sync off and maybe just refresh it every week or so instead of leaving it running. Just thought it was easier incase I add contacts etc. I will just turn it off. My whatapp stays on even when I turn syncing off. I don't think the app works without keeping it synced.
Cheers

keep the Whatapp sync (If that's the app you really need all the time) sync and the rest off-sync.
Reset your phone and observe it again.
i have problem
when i make call and end the call
i found in task manger phone file open (green phone icon)
and its not closed
i found that it take alot of battery
so i have to make end task every time after i finsh incomming or outgoing calls
anyone have a solution??
its meant to be like that!
it is meant to be like that, the phone keeps the app in memory to decrease time it takes to open it the next time, mostly useful for those who make a lot of calls. apps might be closed imidiately depending on memory- and cpu usage, try using the "back" button instead of "home" and see if that works
It's not the "phone app" that kills battery, it's you making calls, and that is sorted to "phone" by the battery monitor. Just leave the dialer open, it doesn't matter.

You can do like I do... I place the Task Manager shortcut in the main screen and everytime a finish a call or some other task I just open it and click on Stop.
Its a matter of get use with that, takes 2 seconds and don't hurt no one... Or you can try to find some app to do that and loose the battery for that app.

The battery needs some charging cycles to get to its full capacity. Did yo uhae any difference with closing the dialer app? Because I don't think it will do any difference. It's the same with RAM, a typical failure is to think that it has to be empty, but it is handled different and therefore it doesn't matter for the phones speed if it is full or empty. That dialer app stays open, so what? And it is pretty normal that calling takes more battery than wi-fi. Mobile data also takes more battery than wi-fi. And when making calls you have a permanent active mobile connection. There is a reason that companys always print two battery times, one standby and one calling.
Don't panic, get used to it. I don't think your battery life will increase. Only possibility for that is to flash the latest software and disable some of LGs stuff, e.g. Smartworld app.
Use task killer and will stop any program that run as standby , also, I would like to advice LG 4X users to use Battery saver to save more BATTERY LIFE. I have installed one and test it. It really make my device super and extend the battery life.
Best regards,

This is the worst hint you can give. Everyone who has owned an Android device for quite a time will know that taskkillers are among the most unuseful programs you can get, because they'll randomly kill apps and make the system unstable. Once again: It doesn't matter how many apps are open! Your RAM will always be freed. This is not Windows! And for battery usage it is only important if apps running in background keep the phone from deep sleep, and that's the minority of programs. And for those which keep the phone awake, it's mostly intended, like mail apps that poll the mail server every half an hour. Get yourself some information about how Android works, it helps a lot.
If you want to know about wakelocks, use the "BetterBatteryStats" app. It can be found somewhere on xda for free (older version) or for a small fee on the Play Store.

I don't think killing the Phone app will make much of a difference, have you tried exploring other power saving methods? personally I find changing governer settings on screen off saves me quite a bit
Hi,
I am using Juice Defender Ultimate on my SXS to pump up battery life and it helps a lot. This Stamina mode on the Z - is this about the same thing offered by Sony right out of the box? W. Does it also offer detailed options to modify the settings to my liking or has is it a more radical impact on the system?
It's sort of the same, perhaps a bit more limited since it gives you less control while also being more effective. Basically when you turn it on it tries to force a deep sleep after a while in standby and it turns off the data connection if you have no exclusions.
With exclusions the data connection will most likely stay on but it'll still go in deep sleep and only wakes up for apps in your exclusion list.
I have to say it works extremely well. Battery drain in standby with stamina mode on and a few exclusions (Gmail, FB Messenger, WhatsApp, GTalk) is virtually zero.
Thats what juice defender and power saver should've been.
You information is informative ambroos.
Your from esato? Correct me if im wrong.
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
It should have more impact on the device. Juice defender may have some similarities with stamina mode but let's also consider the integration of the feature.
1st juice defender is a 3rd party option and most probably has only limited things which it can do to the device itself. While the stamina mode is an integrated part of the OS so we could expect a 100% compatibility with all it's features.
It's basically like this...
Maybe you could compare it to a real life situation like this.
Battery defender = sleeping pills
Stamina mode = natural sleep

I'm everywhere Was here before I was on Esato.
There are times when Stamina Mode can't be enforced though. Then you get a notification that for example Google Plus is preventing the phone from entering Stamina Mode. Usually when those apps are doing some background syncing. But in general it works really well.
and now the big question will adding some 3rd parts app like juice defender or simmilar increase battery life even moar ??
I think installing a third party app like battery defender will interfere with stamina mode because you then have two similar features trying to do the same thing which might give you the opposite results. I think
The main problem with Stamina Mode is that it won't actually stop services/apps. Since I have Gmail and Exchange syncing Stamina just notifies me that those services are preventing sleep; obviously I wouldn't want stop those from syncing. I really wish it would just allow a set 'burst' mode, let you specify the interval and force all syncing/updates to occur during that window.

I'm still struggling with this - when you wake the phone again, everything starts up again, and starts syncing. Doesn't the surge of data transfer on waking cancel out the battery saved while asleep?

Suppose you are in a meeting or at the movies, you could save a lot of battery if g3/g4 is switched off. If you check every 2 minutes your phone I can imagine it doesn't matter although I suppose they switch the antennas off after longer inactivity

Not sure. I use it with exclusions so data stays on anyway. Not sure if it actually does anything but the battery does last long and the notifications I want still arrive...

Hello,
I have just left my phone yesterday night @ 12am (battery 87%) with Data OFF/Wifi OFF when i wake up in the morning @ 6.30 (Battery 77%) how ? is there any application through which i can monitor the services which actually eat up the battery ? Because i had no issues with Xperia Sola in my past at night it used around 1-2% maximum...with data/wifi off.
Please help...
Use better battery stats
This will show if app or android process is keeping phone awake.
Sent from my C5303 using xda premium
mine gives me 1.4% /hr drain with stamina mode on, i dont even have wifi/data turned on last night.
battery info shows a lot of awake time but the battery stat apps says the phone was in deep sleep 99.1% of the time
i am confused
You seem to have the same problem I describe here 3G and Battery drain
I haven't found any solution yet. Seems to be related to the "Cell Radio"... so, it must be a software problem. The only thing we can do is wait for a new upgrade of the Baseband software. Until that, i recommend you to use the "Only 2G" mode.
Greetings

Use GSM Only network. Turn on stamina mode. It will kill all apps without phone calls, sms, mss, and apps on whitelist.
It will also turn off wifi and data packages when screen is off BUT it will keep/hold your IP number, so when you wake up the phone you will have acces to internet immediately. Whit this options when i fully charge my device, at about 10PM i had 100%. I went to sleep, wake up at 5AM and I still had 100%.
WHen you only turn off wifi and data apps in background will be try to connect and work in background as well. Fact is that you will not recieve any MMS messages with Data OFF.
So. First of all. USE STAMINA MODE

Stamina isn't your solution. What makes Stamina Mode is stop data traffics and wifi, when the screen turns off. But you say that the battery drains happens even when you have data and wifi off. So... Stamina Mode will not help you much.

Hi!
Having troubles with a 520 because once it enters the deep sleep state, it'll start getting Whatsapp notifications only when waking it up.
No battery saving setting is turned on.
An APP that wakes the device from time to time would help.
Thanks.
Perhaps you either have cellular data turned off, have no data signal, or are set to only receive notifications over WiFi? By default, WP turns off WiFi when the screen is off and the phone isn't plugged in. I think there might be an option to change that, but I don't recall where it would be.
There are definitely apps that will cause WiFi to stay on in the background (I think pretty much any streaming music app does this?), but those will wreck the battery life if you just leave them on all day. Apps are also able to periodically (~every 30 minutes) do some stuff in the background even in the phone is sleeping, but I'm not sure if this is allowed to wake up the WiFi and cause it to connect.
If the problem isn't WiFi instead of cellular data, I really don't know what's going on.
Thanks! Read here if you're still interested:
