Screen has pink haze to it in direct sunlight - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Quick question, in direct sunlight does anyone's screen have pink haze to it?I can't tell if it's tmobile screen protector or display causing it,don't really want to take screen protector off just yet, that's why I'm askin.

No one??

Yep mine has it also its like a pink/purple haze.I dunno maybe its just my phone but the screen seems to look really good one moment then the next not as good..Thinking about exchanging mine.

Another thing i kinda noticed is that on a white backround there is a purple tint.an also my screen seems to have a warm color to it.I dunno just not real inpressed with this display.Maybe if I exchange it i will get a better one lol..

There is another thread which says that screen with auto brightnes enabled is getting over saturated and pushing brightnes almost twice than normal when in direct sunlight to make screen readable.

Change screen mode to amoled cinema to remove pink hue.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app

Yea mine stays in amoled cinema mode, but in the sun it has a pink hue to it,what makes it really noticeable is if I put my hand to block some of sunlight it looks really white compared to the part the sun still shining on,when in auto brightness it amps up and reduces it a bit,but can still see it,now when not in sunlight it looks pretty good, still can tell there's a slight pinkness to it,but I went to 3 different tmobile stores and all there demos, when looking at a white background all look very close to mine,of course I couldn't move them into sun,but just my observation. .

I may eventually warranty replace it,but no stores around here have any stock and I'm almost at 14 day return period.

Yes exchange it! I had this problem, I had two phones one with a BEAUTIFUL display, And one with the tint it made the whole phone feel and look like junk.. I brought it in right away, definitely a defect.. When you get a good one you'll notice the big difference. Luckily I had another one to compare it too

Well...after some back in fourth with tmobile, (today is day 15 )I was able to get someone to finally listen to me @ tech support and they ordered me a new device, don't know when I'll get but at least I know it's coming,I've tried to ignore the subtle pink hue on 3/4 of display, but at the end of the day, just didn't seem exceptable to me,so here's to hoping the new one will be better..

Contacted Samsung via live chat...WORSE customer service EVER wouldn't even give me an explanation ohhhh but wait till I get home. I'm calling those sons of b%##$ telling me to contact tmobile. What?! Tmobile didn't manufacturer it did it?! Dumbasssss

I here ya,it's been a bit frustrating...The pink hue that I see without being in sunlight isn't real bad,but enough that once my eyes adjust reading a while on anything with a white background,u can certainly notice the pink/purple tint shift from the bottom of the display to top were it's bright white, wife says I'm being perfectionist..My deal is my note 3 didn't do it,and honestly if the whole display had the tint I could probably live with it,but it's not...It's 2 toned..Anyway hopefully replacement will be better not worse,if worst then will send replacement back, and just except what is.

I spoke 40 minutes with 3 Samsung techs. After time and time again of telling them my broblem. Guess what it's not a feature. Could be a defect they told me to try this...go to assebility and hit on vision then color adjustment. I tried it and went outside to my sup rise the screen didn't turn all "SUPER BRIGHT " maybe it was because the sun wasn't hot enough either way got my ticket # and I'll be calling back tomorrow to see what's up

Any update? I have this problem.
So, any updates regarding your Samsung service? Did you get a working phone?
Were they able to isolate the problem?
Does this haze exist on all note 4's, or just defective ones?
I have the same problem with mine. It's driving me NUTS! I sent it in to samsung, and they emailed back saying they found no problems with the phone, and included a questionnaire/survey to diagnose the issue. I emailed back details, and how to repeat the issue. I also sent them links to videos that I uploaded demonstrating the issue.
The phone was sent back to me with no work done.
I'm going on a vacation, so I'll deal with it when I get back. I'm just frustrated because pink haze is obvious in moderate sunlight, and undeniable in strong sun.
Please follow up if time allows!

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Note screen artefacts - strange discovery

Hi all, this is my first thread.
I would like to share my recent discovery with you. Three days ago I bought Samsung Galaxy Note I (one) and I love it. However, I immediately noticed a large circle in the middle and a small one in the lower right section of the screen. It can only be clearly seen when there is a grey background (I noticed it when starting Market for the first time). I immediately installed a couple of screen test applications and realized that all the colours are fine, there are no dead pixels, just these kind of "imprinted" circles that I cannot erase. I did search the Google and this forum and realised that some users have the same issue with the SII (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...1087236&page=4), although at the different places of the screen.
Today I found out the cause of the circles. By looking at the advertisement sticker that I peeled off the Note, I realised that the Samsung original sticker is the cause of the deterioration of the screen at these places!
Look at the two attached pictures and see for yourselves. Just to be clear, they are not dust or grease or something like that, the circles are "inside" the screen. And it is obvious that the patterns are the same as coloured adds on the sticker.
How can that be possible? Can it be that the phone spent a lot of time under the marketing glass at the store and that some kind of chemical reaction occurred under exposure to light?

Wow!!!!
The only thing that comes to my mind is that your particular Note was some sort of display unit behind a counter or glass shelf.
Let me explain... Since our super-mega-screens are AMOLED (meaning organic) based, they tend to deteriorate every time we use them, specially blue colors are the quickest to deteriorate when we use the device.
However, UV light (normal sun light and even fluorescent tubes like the ones in offices and stores) when shined directly to our screens tend to degrade the quality of the display even quicker!
I bet your Note spent way too much time under UV light while the sticker was on the screen, thus creating a ghost image or shadow over it.
Unfortunately, there's no way to fix this.
If I where you, I would return this Note ASAP to the store and explain your findings...
Cheers!

Hi all,
My nightmare continues... After bouncing a couple of times between service store and the seller's store I finally got my brand new Note. Not. I got a new one, but it turned out to be a demo model from another store, and guess what, it also has the same circles and shadows imprinted in the screen. The dealer said that this one has also been in display for almost half a year and to me no wonder it has the same screen issues. So, no luck here.
But the thing gets even more complicated because they do not have another Galaxy Note anywhere, in any store, so they cannot replace it (they returned them all and are starting to advertise Note II, which is a lot more expensive at my carrier's tariff). So I am stuck. I tried to get the DOA form and hopefully will get it through the day and go to the authorised importer here in Croatia and hopefully get a new one or at least have my screen repaired. However, I am not happy to see my new phone going to repair shop, I know that I must get a fresh new one if I return it in a weeks time.
More strangely, the store said that if they return the phone to the authorised dealer they will need to give me the new one and since they don't have it they are willing to cancel my two year contract? And that is the only thing they will do. And I do not want that, all I want is a perfectly working Note.
I will try to go to the importer myself with all the papers and will post back the results. Of course, I do not need to mention that I am very disappointed with the customer service....
I wouldnt have left the store with out either a Brand spanking new Note (Not display model) or without a contract termination.
I know you dont want to cancel, But your paying for a service which isnt being delivered !
Cancel that motherfu*ker and take out a new one with a better provider, Your current one sounds awful !
Tell your new provider that your old provider are offering you XXXXX handset for XX amount per month and if they can beat it, you will join them !
It worked for me I got my mummy the Nokia Lumia for £20 a month (free phone too) as opposed to her old provider wanting £35 per month.
These people dont give a $hit about you, They just want your money, So dont think the promises they make instore will keep because they wont!
Its time to play hard ball if you want a decent outcome!
PS: What sort of provider sells Ex Display models as 'Brand New' ones ? Over here in the UK we call these people 'Rogue Traders' !
Keep us informed :good:
You shouldn't let them do that to you

Well if they give you note2 for price of 1 its not to bad. Its majorly bad they gave you 2 faulty units.
Like above posters, cancel or claim working unit alternative.
Whats the namr of the store? So people can avoid it
Did you get a discount for using a demo product?
Also, always test screen in store. That way you can often exchange on the same visit.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
That is completely unacceptable! They can not sell it as New by any chance! As soon as the product leaves the box it becomes B stock!
B stock usually pays off and you can save a lot of money, but not with smartphones, unless aesthetic if the only flaw, which is rare...
I have a 7 string guitar I bought in B stock, it is completely fine, except for a dent on the finish on the back and the electronics were a bit messy so I got a HUGE discount!
Latter that month bought new pickups and redid all the electronics, taken from an older guitar I barely used, and got myself a limited edition Cort X-7 for 185 euros (something like 200dll)! (which is just plain ridiculous) xD
Be on the look for B stock items guys! You can make really great deals!
Hope you get your problem fixed! Good luck!

Hi all, just to let you know how everything turned out for me... After a couple of weeks of complaining and arguing and loosing my nerves with the store where I bought the Note I, I decided to cancel the contract. So no luck there.
But, in the spirit of a nice Christmas story, I was given a brand new Samsung Galaxy Note II by a friend of mine!
And I am forever thankful and just want to say that the phone is amazing!
I hope you will file a consumer complaint against the store.

Nexus 4 screen issue ( Not a troubleshooting topic)

Hi everyone, i would like to share a experience i've had with both of my nexus 4 ordered from the google play with you other n4 possessors.
This is not a troubleshooting topic it's just a kind of survey i'm doing.
I've received my nexus 4 in december, and i noticed there was something going on with the display, some horizontal lines stayed on the screen while i was swiping the homescreen or changing image/scrolling webpages. Then after a while i noticed there was a dark horizontal line on the left side of the screen. This line doesn't appear on white images, it can be seen more on grey or dark backgrounds, e.g. put the 4th default wallpaper and scroll all the way to the left and you should be able to see it. Also, this line became more and more marked on the screen depending on the temperature of the battery, e.g. while charging or playing heavy games or flash player. I called google play ordered a replacement and i got it the day after, turn it on, install all my apps, and the line was STILL there, also on the new device.
My question is, am I so unlucky that i've received 2 faulted devices from google or everyone has this problem? can anyone please check?
P.s. put brightness to the maximum when checking.
where is this line appearing i cant understand

On the left of the screen, horizontal dark line, it can be seen better on a gray or dark image, such as the wallpaper i suggested
The line actually appears when I'm swiping away recent apps..hadn't noticed until now. It could probably be fixed with switching roms though. I'm on JD's perfect android right now. This is my 3rd nexus device, no problems on it, 303k.

Thanks for checking justin, can you also check it again when the battery gets warmer? like just play a heavy 3d game or charge the phone. it should be more marked, sometimes i can even see it over my power control widget :crying:
Yeah my line is different I believe, I put the phone to charge and put on grand theft auto. Nothing really appeared.

Anyone else willing to check their displays and help me out?
Are you sure you don't mean vertical line? on the left side.
If so then yes mine has it.
I can't see any line on my display
oh god guys i meant Vertical..meangreenie is right.. sorry everyone, i mean vertical line on the left of the screen!
I've got 2 vertical lines on both sides of the screen (left and right) and they're not that much visible but they're always there. IT just looks as if those sides were a little bit dimmer than the rest of the screen.
I have same problem on my n4,there's grey line on left screen which more visible when the device getting heat..is it possible to disappear by itself after few time?or should i claim my warranty?thx before and sorry for my bad english
Guys I'm having the same issue. Should I claim my warranty? Or any solution to make it disappear? For me this is a very costly phone and I don't wanna take any risks. I can see the line in most apps even in chrome while typing in address bar the window greys out. At that time its perfectly visible. Its jus 1 month old n now I'm **** scared

Guys please help
I'm glad I caught this thread. I bought a refurbished Nokia wireless charging plate. I didn't have the good sense to check XDA first, and sure enough the thing has compatibility issues. I thought I'd just leave it on the plate overnight to settle in as some people have suggested, and after about an hour my screen was violently flashing on and off with pronounced vertical lines over the screen (discoloration, not a line of pixels). After a while the lines mostly faded, but I can still see them just as described in this thread when I pull down the notification tray or open any app with a grey background (like the gallery).
I just got an RMA today. I'm wondering whether we've all experienced power issues or if I just didn't notice the lines until I was looking for them.

I'm not so sure that this is even a problem that an RMA is going to fix. Like I said, I only noticed it when I was looking for it. Might just be a charactaristic of a batch of panels, more like a light leak than damage.
However, if it is damage there is no way you're fixing it without an RMA. It's clearly not a software level issue.
I thought I was the only one. Mine has it but I barely notice it anymore.

Blue dots on front facing camera defect.

I just noticed this, put your phone in front facing mode or selfie, whatever you wanna call it. Make sure it's set to the max 5MP. You can see blue dots without covering the lens but let's just do so in this test.
I have two blue dots on the right of the screen which also show up in pictures. No it's not a screen defect because it stays in the same spot on the picture when scrolling left or right in the gallery.
The dots are not there if I change it to 3.8MP, more than likely because the aspect ratio is 16:9 as opposed to 4:3.
Try it out.
Note* I noticed when I attached the picture it rotated 90° counter clockwise so you'll see blue dots up top
Happening to me as well. That's interesting. Mine look different though.
Lol!!! You guys are lucky!! Check out mine!!
But they only show in very dark pictures though
Well wtf. It's always something right? Okay, so is this a physical problem with the camera, or a software issue?
It's because it's a Galaxy phone and we all get different constellations !
I'll think of it as a Galaxy phone Easter egg
I started a thread in the general S6 forum about this, hopefully it will get some more views.
---------- Post added at 11:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:44 PM ----------
I really wouldn't care, but I take selfies with my kids a lot.
Wtf
Try it on the 3.8MP setting, since the aspect ratio makes the image a bit more zoomed in my dots go away, I wonder if yours will still be there considering you have a lot more of them.
I see mine even with the lights on, granted its not very bright but still there .
See pic attached lol its on my forehead.
Why does this page keep rotating my images lol
Blue dots are on everything for me except for 3.8

Ahahah yes! I think you hit the nail on the head
Interesting how when I use other apps such as Snapchat there are no dots.
Edit* NVM its still there on the Instagram Camera, kinda annoying :/
Unfortunately, I don't think it's a software issue
I tried all the qualities and I can't see any blue dots on mine, but really samsung... Another manufacturing defect? I wonder if they even have quality control at this point
I have blue dots on my s5 but its on the 'outer' facing camera
For what it's worth when I was in the T-Mobile store today getting a return there was a Samsung rep there. He said it definitely shouldn't be doing that and took pictures of my phone and samples of photos I had taken with the front facing camera and sent them to their engineering department.
Called T-Mobile about my seven dot issue and they authorized an exchange for a brand new phone pending a factory reset I have to do before I get to the store. ( meaning if the factory reset fixes it then there's no exchange)

Yeah I got another one being sent to me, I had another issue too.
When the screen would kick up to full brightness that only happens in extreme sunlight I would get this L shaped shadowing on the left and bottom of the screen, about half an inch away from the edges of the screen, it was really weird.
No blue dots on mine, looks like a camera defect.
Got mine replaced at the store today. Took the opportunity to upgrade to a 64 GB.

Youre welcome lol
Glad you got yours already, I called stores and they wouldn't do anything for me since I "bought it online" so I had to do it over the phone.
The 1st lady I spoke to wouldnt help me at all, she gave me two options; 1. Send the phone back and wait about a month for them to verify a problem and then send me another or 2. go on the website and get this "BUY IT AGAIN" lmao and send this defective one back, granted I only paid $160ish through my Jump program ($100 down payment for the 64GB and the rest was tax and shipping) I wasnt gonna go and do that again though, lady was out of her mind.
called again and this dude was more than happy to help, didnt even ask me to go into whats wrong with my device.

Image Retention/Screen Burn In?

Lately I noticed that my screen has a tendency to show burn ins. They're not permanent but you'll be able to see it when you load up something with a grey background.
For my case, when I'm mostly browsing Facebook and using WhatsApp for a while, and then jump into any app with its initial load screen with a gray background, (E.g. The Camera app and the Reddit app), you'll see some of the image retention.
The severity of the image retention is more notable on the outer edges. The worst case is when the image retention is notable throughout the whole screen and the edges has a slight reddish burn to it. But as mentioned, the effect is just temporary.
I actually noticed this happening for a past few weeks but I wasn't too sure what it is until yesterday when I saw a user on subreddit r/nokia mentioning about a similar issue with mine.
I decided to test it out using a image retention tester and ran the black and white grid for 2-3 minutes. And it confirms the issue I'm having. I was able to replicate the more severe image retention with the slight reddish burn on the outer edges. Just to note, my phone is a TA-1004 that I have for 6 months.
If you want to test this issue out for yourself, here's the link:
https://marco.org/rmbp-irtest.html
Does anyone else here has the same issue as I do?
I too have the similar issue, probably after updating with 8.1, not sure if it's a software issue
Probably for achieving
high brightness 700 nits they haven't optimised it properly. I am using a blue tight filter app(reduced brightness) and there is no such issue, but only problem is that app keep running all the time.
Nokia please address this issue ASAP.
---------- Post added at 05:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:19 AM ----------
Try using screen filter app from play store, keep filter brightness less than or equal to 85%, hope this help.
every one having a burn in issue , download this app http://downloadapk.net/down_Pure-Noise-2-Screen-Burn-Fixer.html
and run it for an hour and the burn in is gone because our Nokia has the IPS screen not Amoled . Amoled is not fixable

you can try this app drive.google.com/file/d/16drCJbOTbe55mDJcfFTK7K8XwRHDpnu_/view
It's work for me.

This behavior is actually common for ips displays. All my previous iphones and ipads had this behavior. It's completely fine, it will go away on itself and no permanent burn will happen.

Does anyone else here has the same issue as I do?

Yes, I can confirm that there's a severe image retention around the edges and status bar of the display, I tried running Screen Wiper for a whole night but it seems like it's permanently there. As for notification icons, it'll disappear over time. I need to get it fixed before my warranty ends...
For now I'm just trying to live with it. Doesn't bug me as much but hopefully it's not permanent.
Weird that this phone has this issue. My previous phone that I had for 2 years which also has an IPS panel(Asus Zenfone 2) seems to be fine.
Last time I was bugged about screen burn ins were on my phones I had prior to my Zenfone which had AMOLED panels(Galaxy S3 and S4.) which would've been a normal issue on those type of phones.
But then I've seen that some LG phones like the G5 also had reported burn in/image retention issues similar to the ones on the Nokia 8. I wonder if it's something to do with the quality of the LCD panels or something?
Also the issue started after updating the android 8.1 ... I hope nokia will fix this in android pie... Otherwise I am thinking of getting it replaced before my warranty ends.

Haven't gone to the service center, too lazy, will inform once I've got it fixed.
have the same problem but for me its ephemeral as the image retention lasts about a couple of seconds and happens only after i close an app. at this point it doesn't bother me but i am worried it will get worse
i also started to see it after the 8.1 update
Image Retention is a common situation seen in LG Quantum Displays (LCD). Luckily, it is temporary unlike Amoled Burn-in. Even if the display is changed, there is always chance to get it again. I suggest, just use the device with it if it is not bothering you so much.

I don't understand why everyone is so surprised.
Image retention is absolutely normal in IPS panels and they are completely fixable by running one of those flashing colours videos on YouTube on fullscreen for about an hour.
Thankfully, unlike AMOLEDs, this "issue" is temporary and can be fixed extremly easily. Sending your phone to servicing will not help in any way. Give it some time and the "issue" will return anyway.

Dear i am not dragging but once you spent 530 usd upfront for brand , you should demand worth for at least 1 year my phone just passed 10 month and seeing display burning, i did all possible efforts to recover screen burning tendency but all failed. now phone is being laid in service center. this is how nokia in emerging market sold their crap hardware on name of brand.

Good service support from Nokia care.

***horrible bad burn in note 9***

Don't know how many note 9 with burn there are but here is mine! Looks terrible! Noticed it for the first time last night when it got pretty dark outside and it is super annoying! I assume Samsung will replace with new one? But I have a whitestone and skinomi on it, I am sure they wont cover those
With some light in room
Pretty much completely dark room
Anybody else experience this or have any ideas?
It looks like to me it's screen burn-in. I don't think you can do anything about it.

If you're still within the one year warranty, complain to samaung through "Samsung +" app and don't mention anything about burn in. Just say my screen doesnt look right. If you're out of the warranty then you're SOL.

I had the same issue a month ago. Samsung won't replace it but they will change the screen. They did that for me, but the issue is coming back again. People need to reach out to Samsung and bring this issue to light. Too many units are doing this now but not enough people are speaking up.
Check out the Note 9 screen burn in thread and you'll see other users, including myself, who have pics posted of the same issue.
Sorry about your phone... Reach out to Samsung asap and make sure to send them picture evidence of your issue when you send in your phone. The more people to complain, the more likely Samsung will probably decide to replace these defective units.

That close? That shouldn't happen. I'd definitely get a factory replacement from Samsung. I doubt that your carrier would return it because it's been a while.

Yeah, that's not even two months. Burn ins will never happen in two months unless you make them happen on purpose. Just contact Samsung. They will replace it. They have an app called samaung +. Use it. They're very helpful.

yeah i mean i use it daily and average about 2-3 hours of screen on time and nothing intensive or static images that would cause burn in. Do i just return for refund and buy a new phone or try a new note 9 again? I mean is this going to happen in a month or two again??

Talk to a rep on the app. They're very good. I'd get a new one for a replacement from them. Make sure it's not a refurb. O doubt they'd give you a refund. Burn ins dont happen that soon. You literally need at least two years of the same screen layout and same things done everyday. I've been using oleds since Samsung released them on their first note and I've never had any burn in. And yours actually doesnt even look like a burn in to be honest. It looks a screen uniformity issue.

Your phone has a screen problem, not a burn in. Burn ins are shadows of things you have on your home screen, like your status bar and icons. This is nothing like that. This is an issue with your screen and they'll give you a replacement. Just make sure to present your proof of purchase such as your receipt and all that jazz and you'll be fine.

I agree that it is a screen uniformity issue or something odd. I have every note since the note 2 and never seen this and all of those were used a year and never had a problem. My nav bar isn't "burnt in" which is weird because it is always up and dark
and i have been talking to a rep on samsung+ and sending photos and troubleshooting for him, seems very nice and helpful so far

Good. They'll take care of you I'm sure. The only thing you might worry about is having another phone because they might have you send this one in. Hope all goes well for ya.

I'd argue with them and ask to speak to a manager or a supervisor. This phone is only two months old. I mean, if anything just take the screen replacement honestly. They will only send you to a Samsung authorized repair shop

It's basically going to be a new phone. They will keep the mother board and camera from the old phone and put it in a new body.
So new body and new battery.
At least that is how they handled every report of burn in on the Note 8.
If they send you to a UBreakIFix it is about a two hour turn around..

Nope water resistance isn't compromised.
That's UbreakIFix's statement. Its as water resistant as a new one out of the box.. That's part of why they dont just replace the screen.
