Doesn't charge via wall charger, OK car and usb

Hello Group
My Kaiser has stopped charging via a wall charger. I woke up this morning, and the battery had not charged at all
Some notes
-This problem occurs with 2 different chargers from 2 different outlets
-The device does show the charging indicators (lights and icons) even though it isn't charging
-The device does charge on PC USB port
-The device does charge on the car charger
-No visual bending of the USB pin
I've searched forums, and although I can find references to the opposite issue (wall power OK, USB power or car power NG), I can't seem to find any reference to what I'm seeing. My apologies to the group if I've missed any previous thread regarding this.

Yup, and I have removed and re-inserted the battery.
I thought this also might have to do with a battery going bad, but from what I understand a wall charger gives more power than a usb port, so, again, if that were the case I'd think the opposite would be true
And I did find the thread on some Kaisers are eating up a lot of idle current, but after standby BatteryStatus/HomeScreen PlusPlus says just 1 ma

It sounds like your wall charger has gone bad. It may provide enough current to light up the charge LED, but it certainly doesn't have enough power to charge the battery. Try another wall charger- they all work the same way. I have a number of USB-mini devices and they all interchange for charging.

For what it's worth, you are NOT alone! The EXACT same thing has been happening to me on and off now for the past several months. At first, I thought it was the wall charger (I have 3 iGo chargers); however, ALL 3 of them failed to charge. I can understand one them failing, but ALL 3? No way. In my case, the car charger wasn't working either (it's also from iGo).
I ended up having to charge by USB. I eventually thought it was a battery problem, so I bought a new battery.
That worked...until the problem re-appeared again. The bottom line for me right now is that every now and then the wall charging does not work. So it will work fine for some time and then it will not, and then it starts to work again, etc. This erratic behavior happens with both batteries.
The duration of the wall charging working/not working is not fixed, I have found. For example, I have gone a couple of months of it charging fine and then it stops. At other times, it has been as short as a day. In any case, I usually find out about the problem in the morning, when I still see the amber charging light.
I'm convinced it's a Tilt problem.

I've loaded HomeScreenPlus to monitor current draw, and have seen the following:
-One wall charger is showing positive current (negative draw) SOMETIMES, and during those times it does charge the phone. This unit also makes the charge light turn off and on when I jiggle the plugs or cable. Obviously this charger is just broken.
-Another charger does not turn off/on the charge light or current draw when the wire is jiggled, but also never shows a positive current on the phone. This is an IGo charger, and based on previous posts here I'm thinking they just don't supply enough current to charge the phone. in other words, they suck
Any one have recomendations for a replacement wall charger for my Tilt?

i had the same issue with my htc tytn. no charger worked well for more than 5 minutes, until i got an official htc charger from my wifes shadow... now i use it because it works... and she uses the 3rd party one that came with my hermes when i bought it used... it charges her smart phone just fine, i assume beause it requires less juice? I dont know, but get a official htc branded charger... black berries have the same issue after they start getting a little old... probably something to due with wear and tear on resistors of some sort?

although I expect any ac to usb power adapter that supplies enough current will do. You just need to use your Kaiser/Tilt usb sync cable with it

I got exactly same problem for my Moto Q.
Tried several charger that worked before. Now, none of them works.

Start → Settings → Connections → USB to PC. I make “Enable advanced network functionality” on and off, and it works.

My Kaiser
- Charges via AC
- Charges via Doc
- Does not Charge vis USB
- Does not charge via Car Charger
But if I use an "audio Adaptor" which has usbMini Input it will charge whatever i plug in!!
Weird as hell.

Wont start! :(

I got a Tab yesterday without any cables. There was a little amout of battery left so i Rooted it and bought the "Euro Tap Bootstrab", i tried it, boot CWM, took a backup and then i turn it off. No battery left.
I got a USB cable today. Plugged it in my pc and tab, but I honestly cant see if charging or not. Sometime comes a large battery icon, but when pressing button it goes black
Cant hard reset.
Please help

A PC will charge it very slowly. You need to plug it into a wall charger. You probably didn't brick it. See if you can get a USB wall charger from somewhere. Usually Blackberry chargers have a USB port that you can plug the cable into.

Yeah, pretty much. I don't think backing up your Tab would have bricked it, even if the battery died mid-backup since you're reading from memory (internal), not modifying it.

Ehm, to be precise, I pressed "Reboot System", a samsung logo popped out, I waited a long time and it didnt change so i turned it off. Dont hope it's bricked

Just what!? I've charged it for about an hour and have litterly tried everything, this suck big time! It just wont start

Just plugging it in HTC charger gives you almost nothing! Original Samsung charger has a "trick" inside - it has pins 2 and 3 of its USB output connector shortened, and on top of that it has also 2 resistors between these pins and +5 and GND pins. When you plug the cable in common charger the tab does not "understand" that now it must take full power from the charger and does not charge the battery actually (it should take appr 1 A current from the original charger for 4 hours to be fully charged). You should get an original charger, or get a special adapter connected between your HTC charger and tab's cable (I have seen some at Amazon.de), or to make an adapter yourself.
PS. There is a strong recommendation: never do any programing, flashing, backup or restore with battery discharged below 80%, better to do it with charger connected.

Thanks, good to know, however the orginal is lost.. so can i still use the HTC but it will take longer or?

I am afraid the tab will "think" that there is no charger at all. Connecting it to USB port of PC may give a result after several hours (very-very slow charging). Why don't you think over getting (or making) an adapter?!

Will defo get one, but then I would have wait till monday

Actually I have made this adapter in 20 minutes (but I am formerly an electronic engineer, though).
Well, then try to connect it to PC for the whole night (do not forget to keep PC running ), maybe it works out...
First try to run it, if it hangs, try CWM/restore, if it is bricked - re-flash it.

Just to be clear, when it's charged, does the battery icon have to be there all the time? It does disappear after some while when it's connected

Battery icon disappears in several seconds when the tab is switched off. Short pressing on power on button shows it again for some while. Moving dots under icon show charging in progress.
When the tab is fully charged it makes a short sound.
When the tab "understands" that it is connected to a charger, it also makes a short sound.
PS. After recovering the unit I recommend to install Battery Watch from the Market - it has a widget and you will always know the state of battery etc. And you can see a graph showing a battery behavior. And this application is on top of that shouting - "Charging started!", "Charging complete!", which is funny...

Just for reference, do NOT turn your GTab on while charging from a pc. It won't charge at all. Keep it turned off, and then wait for like 9 hours (it takes about 50 minutes to increase the charge to 10% from my laptop).
And when you flash, always have a full charge. ;-)

Well, Shorting the TX/RX lines didn't trigger 2amp charging.

Are you running a stock kernel ?
You'll need to be running Motleys kernel or CM9/AOKP for usb charging

I'm running Motleys kernel.
It was only pulling .5 amp with the data pins, open and shorted.

did you run the script to enable USB charging ?
There's a widget someone made on the 10.1 that does the scriptydoodah bit for you, I'll have a poke around and see if I can find the post

Yes, I thought it was like with the captivate(they cross the datalines and then the device knows its on the charger), but no.
Flan, the apk linked, I downloaded, it but it won't parse?

That is incredibly disappointing. I never used the stock and always just assumed that this was an issue that was related to AOKP and would go away once Samsung released their official ICS build.

Very odd, worked on both stock with Motley's kernel and as you can see works on CM9, that was using the stock charger lead but lugged into the USB port of my laptop, it does charge slower, but certainly puts in more than it's using

I have the script on the tab already, the widget would of been cool, but I just threw it on the charger and I don't get the red slash over the battery when I have it connected, so shorting the data lines, may have done the trick.
I'm also wondering if I connect the two USB ports together, would I be able to pass data between my Cappy and the 8.9, like a crossover cable and to PC's and no hub.

I have stock 3.2 Rom with _motley kernel and my USB charging works for some reason, without any scripts... Like, when I turn the screen off, it goes upto 100%, but as I turn the screen on it is slowly draining the battery to a certain point.

Yes because when it is connected via USB the tablet only requests 0.5amps of power but when the screen is on + wifi + BT, etc the tablet uses more power than it is bringing in. Therefore, despite it reporting that it is charging it is actually draining the battery.

What are you charging it off ?
I left mine plugged into my laptop overnight with wifi, gps and BT all turned on and it charged fully in 8 hours

Deal Extreme charger
I use china adapter as an extra. SKU: 115525 at deal extreme. The one loader that doens't make my tablet nag it isn't charging when on.

Yes I also found that shorting these lines did not enable the 2amp charging mode. Also I found that many chargers are designed to charge Apple devices and they put 2V on one data pin and 2.8V on the other, but this also will not enable 2amp charging on the Samsung 8.9. It turns out that the Samsung charger puts both data pins were at about 1.2V which is necessary to cause the Galaxy tab to report its status as "Charging (AC)".
I built an adapter cable (see attached schematic and pictures) which insures that the data pins are at the expected 1.2V. With this cable in place the Galaxy tablet reports its status as "Charging (AC)" when I hook it up to any of my high current wall or auto chargers regardless of which device the charger was designed for.

Battery after Qi Charging

Hi all
Is it just me or after charging the device via Qi Wireless charger, does the battery drain quicker??

I charge mine via QI every night. It get great battery life. No issues at all.

Nope, no issues here, if check your battery page and see what is causing the drain. I get a full day of usage even with my heavy usage

It might be the charger. Have you tested it with other phones?
QI chargers actively communicate with phones while they charge them, so it could be that the charger is telling the phone it's getting more power than it actually is.

90% of my charging is done on Qi pad on night stand and I get phenomenal battery life.

Maybe it's just the case of the battery meter being screwy....as it seems to jump hideously...turbo charger is fine.

I get great battery life, I'm on the maxx though, I had the turbo for a month on tmobile. I had to tether for about an hour so it dropped my battery down 15%. But 2.5 hours of SOT and 16 hours off the charger. Connected to my moto 360 as well.

you could have a calibration issue, here's how to fix it;
plug in to your turbo charger,
press and hold the power button till the phone shuts off (on it's own, not just the power off prompt), keep holding the power button,
it will flash a battery icon and then show the charge %, make sure it matches what the os said (if you're mis-calibrated, it will not),
you can turn it back on, but leave it on the turbo charger till it's %100.
Some odd charger methods cause this issue (like usb3.0 ports)..

Hey, thanks for the info. With my phone showing 16% I turned off the phone as you suggested and it immediately showed 75%!! So I'm continuing to charge on Turbo charger.
Is this a known issue then? Any other posts about it and what causes it?

I would also be interested in determining for myself how fast the device is charged, as I use the same two 65 watt cables for everything (laptops, tablet, phones, headphones, ...) and the speed on this phone doesn't exactly feel healthy. Perhaps it is possible to give the required permissions via adb or twrp.

Stopping charging requires a device that has a hardware switch. No software will do it by itself. I recently read that such models have appeared, so look for information.
As for charging, smart chargers adjust the charging current according to the request from the battery controller.

From time to time I'm charging the phone overnight with slow charger, 5V, 1A. And sometimes on a morning I have 80% charged only... Will have to try a few more times to confirm. Or it is applying only for continuous charging ?

I came to xiaomi from a sony 5 II and it had a function called "Battery Care", that would stop the charging at 80%, the battery is still in a very good condition, after two years.

Its a hidden menu in miui, can be opened by installing activity launcher and search for optimized charging, its there under security, i guess by default its on.

There's an app for that but i guess it needs root and 65W charger is not always charging at same power, phone will draw the charge according to its battery level.

Just root. You lose nothing. I use "AccA" to manage battery with root.

It is possible to set a charge percentage limit , but on custom rom , not Miui.
I recently switched to Evolution X rom (A12L based) and there's an option for that.
