[Q] Do you Encrypt your Note 4? - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If so, what are the Pros and Cons?
Does it affect root or flashing.?
Do you also encrypt your SD card?

I too am curious about this. I have never encrypted a smartphone, but I am beginning to wonder if it is necessary the more I have to use my device for company data.
Anyone have experience to share?

[Q] No option to Decrypt

Hi all, I recently installed MobileIron on my Xperia Z to get work emails etc. I am running Android 4.2.2 When i had done testing, i decided to remove Mobileiron and deactivated it and uninatslled it, this was ll fine. As part on the setup of MobileIron, my phone had to be Encrypted and this went through fine also. The issue now is that if i go into Security and look under Owner Info>Encryption, it says Encrypt phone (Encrypted) and i have no option to decrypt. If i tap on "Encrypt phone (Encrypted)" nothing happens. anyone any ideas on this? Thank you!
The reason why you had to encrypt in the first place was because your corporate policy required it ... i.e., your IT department configured your MobileIron server to require encryption on your device, so once registered with MobileIron, you had to adopt the corporate policy.
I don't know of any Android devices that allow for decryption. That said, there's no good reason to decrypt. You are getting a security advantage with no real negatives. In theory there could be a micro-penalty in the battery consumption or i/o speed but in reality it's not going to be noticeable.
If you really can't stand the idea of encryption, you need to do a full factory reset. You'll lose all your data during that process so you'll want to backup first and restore once complete.

Thank you for your response
The reason i was looking to do this is that i also have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and with an identical setup, there is the option to Decrypt so i was wondering if i missed something.

Any non-root method to move large games to SD yet?

Just checking to see if anyone has identified a method to move large games over to the sd card yet. I purchased KOTOR, baldur gate, etc and can't stand the low storage warning I get while they are installed. Anyway to do this without root yet? I hear root has gotten better and doesn't mess up the camera but I just don't have the time to tinker like that these days.
you need root to do this...check out FolderMount

how to check if my phone is encrypted

Been on KK until now, need quick update to current state of affairs.
Anyhow, is my phone fully encrypted? How do I check if it is? If it is can I make it decrypted?
The reason I'm asking, with MM Google made full encryption mandatory on most phones but IMO full phone encryption is useless, that's what secure folder and Knox is for and the fact that Crapple encrypts all its iphones is no reason, (so how long it took hackers to break into CA terrorist iphone, that supposed to be unbreakable even by Crapple engineers?).
N7 absolutely has the power to support full encryption, but Samsung being the biggest phone maker thankfully don't follow all Google's bad ideas (physical home button and SD card support come to mind as examples).
So what's the story here or is it a taboo, or maybe nobody cares?
What's the encryption story in Android 7?
It appears that it's encrypted out of the box. The SD card can be encrypted in settings.
I don't think their method of decrypting it will work on Snapdragon variants.
Thank you for quick answer.
That really sucks.
I guess it depends on how badly you want to decrypt it. I'd like to decrypt mine as well and had I known about the encryption at the start I would have done this right off.

Should I disable forced encryption?

Now, that I'm going to replace my Note with new one, I will need to set it up again, therefore it's good time to change things around from start, knowing much more than at launch. Forced encryption for whole memory bothers me and I'm thinking to get rid off it (What is Knox, secure folder, by file password protected encryption for?). Whole phone encryption sounds more like locking the phone from me, the user, than anything else. So my questions are?
Will this even work on Tmo Note? http://androiding.how/disable-dm-verity-forced-encryption-galaxy-note-7/
Will this trip the Knox?
Whats the side effects? Will Samsung pay still work? Secure folder? etc?
I would test it on my current N7, which goes back anyway, but ATM time is something I don't have much at all. Anybody else tried it?
Well, TWRP is a prerequisite, and that will trip Knox.

Does the T-Mobile N7 have that level of root? These instructions seem geared to the international version.

Advice on migration from S9 to S10

A new S10 is arriving in a few days to replace my S9 which I'm trading in. I have to migrate everything on the S9 to the S10. Is the Samsung Smart Switch app the best way to do that? And is there any way to migrate MMS content such as photos and video? I was told that smart switch will not do that. I created a Smart Switch backup on the MicroSD card in the phone. I'm assuming that I can simply put that same microSD card into the new S10 to complete the migration process using Smart Switch. Should that be done before or after activating the phone.? Beyond that I'm just interested in any advice or guidance (or horror stories) that anyone can offer on migrating an S9 to an S10, and/or more generally migrating one Android phone to a new replacement phone.
TIA
I migrated all my stuff in the internal storage on my LG V30 to the S10 using the Smart Switch. I was surprised just how easy it was. The rest of my stuff was in an SD card so I left that alone. You just lay your phone on top of the new one for a few minutes. As far as the MMS content, it all seemed to transferred over just fine. I still see old photos shared in some of the texts.
Also used SmartSwitch...

Did too. But SmartSwitch can't transfer app data. Helium also doesn't transfer all apps data.
I wish there was an app that could transfer the apps with their data. Root is still not available and TB is a miss...
I'm trying to prep for an S10 that is on it's way, migrating data from a Sony Xperia XZ2. Tried to use the "backup to an external SD card" available from Smart Switch, but it constantly crashes the phone when backing up. And I mean causes the phone to reboot.
Sony's Xperia Transfer on the other hand backs up just fine in a similar manner. Not sure what the heck Smart Switch is trying to do that does this. I'm hoping that using the USB method from Smart Switch works OK as I don't know if Sony's Xperia Transfer will work on the Samsung.
I ended up using smart switch but I lost some app data. Hopefully I can titanium back up them in, in the future.
