I purchased my phone on Thursday. I spent all Thursday and Friday downloading all my apps on wifi at work, Migrating my pictures and music, installing the update, and just generally setting up my phone the way I like it. Saturday I started playing with it. I was playing Angry Birds Transformers and the phone got really hot. After just two levels. I let it cool off a bit and tried Scramble With Friends. Same thing. Then Marvel Puzzle Fighters. This, combined with the poor battery life I'm getting (around 16-19 hours) makes me wonder if I have a unit I should exchange. I never bought into the whole 48 hours thing, but I get 30 hours out of my 2013 Droid Maxx depending on usage so I was expecting something similar. I consider myself a moderate user; bluetooth commuting and gym, wifi at work and home to save data, a little music at work and gym (sometimes my library, sometimes streaming) editing fantasy sports lineups, social sites, taking my turn on Words and Scramble with Friends, the occasional YouTube clip and, when I get home, around 30 minutes gaming. I do play some Gameloft games and they never made my Maxx over heat (or did they and I couldn't feel it through the Incipio case?). I know it's not something running in the background. Screen time is my main battery culprit, followed by Cell Standby and WiFi. I disabled all VZW apps and use Battery Saving for my location settings unless I'm navigating. I can't imagine Angry Birds would tax that Snapdragon 805 to cause heating like this. Has anyone else had their phone heating up on them? Did you exchange it?

It is gong to get warm with heavy gaming using CPU and GPU and well saying it feels warm/hot is pretty subjective. I would go into the Verizon store and compare it warmness wise to the demo units in the store that are on constantly.
Thanks

That's what I was thinking. I noticed in the VZW store the demo unit had Angry Birds and a golf game on it. I was going to go play on the demo unit and see if it feels like mine. It's hard to see how fast the demo unit battery drains because you can't unplug the charger but at least I can check the heat issue. Thanks!
This phone gets really hot just charging with the turbo charger. Not a fan at all.

That's just the turbo charger. Not at all the phone itself. I think this "turbo charger" was a bad idea and is bad for the battery.
Quick question. What back does your phone have, ballistic nylon or the kevlar-aluminum-glass one? Only reason I ask is because I checked the demo units at the verizon store and the ballistic nylon was much hotter than the others.

Would really like some feed back from Note users. What is your average screen on time per charge on this device?
I'm sitting on the fence between getting another Galaxy Nexus (lost) or getting a Galaxy Note. I played with a Note today and while it's big I think I can just about overlook it's size. Anyway, I used to get about 3-4 hours with my Nexus. I'm sure you guys are getting a lot more with your Note's.
Please comment.
Over 70 views and not a single person can tell me their average on screen time? lol okay.

Well this really equates to the number of running apps etc.
But on an average Display accounts for almost 65-70% of battery drain and on a whole with moderate use my phone lasts more than a day ~ 28 hrs.
Samsung does have settings which optimizes the screen display to consume optimum power.
Cheers
Average 4-5 hrs. There are other people in this forum who have reported this too.
Also note: it would totally depend on the apps running, signal strength etc

I EASILY get 4 hours, I can MAYBE get 5 hours. But I'm always between there 3G always on, wifi when I'm at home. Screen brightness at auto.
Put in a fully charged battery (I have two), it was idle for about 10 minutes when I went to the loo. Other than that, I never put it down. Browsing, texting, tweeting, checking Facebook, scouring through Android Market, flipping through photos on Gallery, made two phone calls, Angry Birds, read an eBook...
Finally gave me the "connect your charger" warning after five hours.
my daily use
on stock rom KK1, rooted, some bloatwares are frozen in Titanium backup
screen auto brightness
3-3.5 hrs screen on time, mostly for internet data streaming app, like XDA, Gearslutz, FML, Engadget, IGN, youtube , internet browser
3G always on(HSPA+ 21mbs)
30 - 60mins phone call
2 - 3 hours music.
few photos
LOADS of whatsapp texting
some emails from gmail app
some facebook checking
syncing are ALL on, (google, whatsapp, facebook)
my phone battery go from 100 to 0 % in around 11 to 12 hours.
Thanks for all the replies guys.
I've decided to go back with the Nexus.
As much as I want it to, the Note simply wouldn't fit as well with my lifestyle.
Thanks again.
Rounding 5 hours screen time now. I've played way too much Wordfeud!

not to totally derail from the topic here, but why? i'm quite curious because i'm on the Note now but thinking of making the switch to Nexus...
4-5 hours with browsing YouTube forums. If trolling it gets less jk. But can't say exact because all this is done at work so i am putting it on charge when it is near 20-30% so when i leave from work it is fully charged no need to spend electricity at home that's why we have the work place. So i charging it from every 12 hours or day depends if i will see a movie when going home a 1 hour trip from work or i will be listening tiesto's live cast. 3g always on automatic sync is off, sync is on, Samsung push off, weather app with 3 hour sync. Brightness at low till medium or automatic depends of the mood.
Charge it when you can a Samsung original battery costs 30€ GG
Hope it will help a bit.

Tbh, it's only because of my job and the size of the device. I make a good 20-50 calls a day at work, and since I don't use BT headsets I imagine it would just be awkward having to pull a device that large out all of the time.
Don worry about battery life. 2500mah battery is not for fun
You can always get a portable charger if you are afraid the juice will run out

fair enough.
I get about 10/12 hours a day, usage is heavy, I hardly ever put my phone down, talking, browsing, and refreshing anything from corporate mail account to twitter every 15 min (auto) and every 30secs when i´m waiting for something... now if you play reckless driving (love it) you´ll get about 2 hours...

I actually find it to be more comfortable to hold to my head than my previous smaller phones. I can grab and hold it for extended periods without any finger cramps, since it's a good size for the hand. The included headset is actually really nice, IMO, for longer calls.
A couple thing's I've noticed, when doing some serious gaming, the unit gets VERY hot. We've seen this before with Teg 3 tablets COUGH*acer*COUGH, but my concern is putting a case on this thing... I'm worried that retaining all that heat might cook the thing's insides.
This will probably resolve itself, but last night I went to bed at ~80% battery, watched a movie, and when it was done, the screen turned off as normal... and when I woke up, the battery was down to 25%. My Razr Maxx had similar issues when new and apparently had to do with the OS calibrating it's battery meter.
What is everyone else seeing on theirs?
Use CPUspy to see if it was deep sleeping? BetterBatterystats to check wakelocks? Mine seems to be sleeping fine, haven't seen mine do anything weird yet
I'm not a serious gamer but I did put my N7 through about an hour of some pretty intensive gaming and it got a little warm like any device but it was never HOT to the touch. Battery life on day 1 was a bit weak but thats because I was too excited and did not give the N7 time to fully charge before playing with it.
Yesterday it was fully charged at around 2pm when I unplugged it.
Went to the library for a little over an hour and mooched their WiFi then went to my friends house.. from 4pm till midnight we were abusing my N7 pretty much constantly... showing off GNow, Maps compass mode, sports scores etc and when I got home around 1am I still had 47%.
Granted, I didn't game at all yesterday or watch much video.. but it was still being used fairly constantly.
Therr are apps that cause your device to wake. I discovered "hangaroo" does this on my wife's evo3d.
Some market apps are that annoying, just uninstall that certain app and the device shouldn't wake up randomly
on xda for android and mistyping like a boss
The only thing on my N7 that wasn't on my other Android devices was Dark Meadow: The Pact... I'm thinking, like mentioned, it's a new device issue that'll resolve itself as far as battery life. The 2nd and 3rd day with my Razr Maxx, I awoke to a dead battery, now it's rocking 2-3 days between charges.
And the heat, well, that was mostly during that Dark Meadows game and that's completely optimized for a Teg 3, so it's abusing all 4 cores plus the GPU portion of the chip. Still, not sure I'd want all that contained in some insulating case.
My Nexus 7 doesn't get hot like you described. My only issue is that the left part of my screen isn't stuck down completely. It pops up while people on reddit are saying is common. Anyone else with this issue here?

Played about two hours of GTA 3 yesterday, it did get 'warm' but not hot.
I think it really depends on how lucky/unlucky you are with the Nexus 7 unit you received. Some people are reporting a dead unit after using it for about 3 hours. Others are reporting dead pixels. And, you're reporting this...
I guess I was lucky enough to not have any of those issues with my Nexus 7.
Hello everyone, I'm thinking of buying the Razr i since it suits my budget.
Orange are currently selling it for £170 which includes a £20 top up.
I've heard brilliant things about the battery of the Razr, and that's exactly what I'm looking for, something with alot of battery.
But I was just wondering, to some of you long term Razr i users out there that are still using the phone today, does the battery die faster now that you have charged it many times? I read somewhere that the battery goes down hill after around 500 charges. This is an even bigger problem since the battery isn't easily accessible like other phones.
Oh, and can you guys give me a little review on the battery for day to day use? I'm talking about occasionally playing games, web browsing, texting, maybe 60 minutes worth of calls a day etc.
Thanks.
Hello.
I´m one of those "younger" users of Motorola Razr i, but can tell something:
Nearly every Accumulator is going downhill after about 500 charges. It´s just nature of todays technologies. I can tell, that I have some phones after 500 charges, and while it can idle for a week, it is happy to work (navi, video) only for three and half hours before it dies. You can´t help it. Hopefully it won´t be so expensive to change your accu after two years, or there will be far superior motorola at that time, and I´m pretty sure, you will want to buy it again
Now the daily use:
If I do some torture to my Razr i, it can stay alive for a whole day. A LOT of web browsing and chatting, some calls and messages, slight playing and camera shooting. Everytime I do that, I want to put my phone on charger before sleep, but I must chat a lot longer, because that thing does not want to die (How about 3300mAh in razr MAXX?) Once I just check my e-mails and some forums and do a short (10-15min) call, it can live for full three and half days. Obviously I must set some smart actions like turn off wifi and GPS once I don´t use it directly, or check e-mails just only every hour. If I don´t touch it, which didn´t happen yet, it will survive over A WEEK easily.
And in T-mobile is Razr i for £150 +£10 top up (currently out of stock though)....
Razr i is one of the top phones if we talk about battery life so whatever you have at the moment, this little fella beats it (most likely ).
Check out this post from Infinity ROM thread - this is extreme case though.
In thisthread are stats from users so might worth check this out too.
I have it since december of last year, and no battery issues since that .
I have 12 hours of continue use the best!!!!

Hit thanks if i help you or you like my style
Don't forget: 500 loading CYCLES! A cycle is from empty to full, not from loading from 30% to 80%, just for information.
Battery life is very good, don't worry, use it.
in general. has G4 been what you expected for general use?
screen, speed, camera batt life, heat, connectivity (too a Mac in my case), blah, blah, blah.
Thanks,

The screen is great quality not as good as the galaxy s6 but it is close second. The speed is great on this phone i don't experience any lag. The camera to me isbetter than any phone out including the iPhone and galaxy s6. Battery life gets me thru a day...i take out off charger at 7 am and when i get home around 6:30 it's no less than 40% and thats with emails coming in all day, few calss, surfing the web and some game play. I dont have any heat problems unless im charging it and playing a game.

Thanks again. Good useful info. Pick 'em up Thurs.
Great phone minus touch screen issues. Phantom touches are a nuisance. Especially while lying flat.
Below Average for High End Phone
My last phone was a Note 3 so this is what I'm comparing the G4 to. Had the G4 for 4 weeks now.
1. Heats up compared to the note.
--When using Waze for 80 mile trips the phone heats up like a frying pan.
--Never noticed any heat issues with the Note but always have a hot phone if using internet for longer than 5 min. with the G4 (to be fair I had a silicone case on the Note and never noticed any heat issues. Could have been the case not letting me feel heat?)
2. Battery inconsistant.
--With a 65% charge I used Waze for 1 3/4 hours yesterday and the battery was at 0% charge (turned itself off). Today had 70% charge for return trip using Waze and had 45% battery life left at end of trip. Note 3 was also unpredictable with battery life. Could go 2 days on lite usage and then other times with same usage would have 30% left at end of 1st day. I find that a re-boot usually solves the battery issue on both phones.
3. Screen
--G4 is nice for most tasks. Sucks when watching HBO-Go, Netflix.
--Note 3 had better blacks and much more enjoyable to watch movies on. (to sum it up, G4 is like watching a LCD TV & Note 3 was like a Plasma TV. I have both tv's at home and the plasma picture blows away the LCD tv's. Maybe just my preferance.)
4. Love the 2 tap to wake the phone and the rear toggle just feels right for one handed operation. Big improvement vs non LG phones.
5. Camera
--Not enough usage to do a complete comparison yet. So far the pictures and video look good on the phone but havent downloaded to the computer to compare with my Note 3 pictures yet. I have noticed that the 8x zoom on the G4 makes the pictures look washed out. The Note only had 4x zoom which looked great in day light. The G4 night/low light pictures do look better than the Note 3.
6. Sound.
Volume goes much louder on the G4(a plus). Speaker phone is better on the G4. Music is kind of tinny sounding if the volume is to high vs the Note 3.
7.Build quality.
The Note 3 feels like a better built phone. Note is heavier than G4 and feels more substantial. I do like the fact that the G4 is lighter and smaller than the Note. Easier to hold one handed and not as heavy in the belt holster as the Note.
That's it for now.
I've had no battery issues thus far, Waze or otherwise. Goes a longtime on a charge. But I'm not a heavy user. A glance here and there, 20 emails, 20 texts a day. No video watching.
You'd feel the heat in a silicon case. But mine was ugly on delivery. All kind of issues. I did a reset and that has cleared up most issue.
There are still some intermittencies with WiFi Calling (T-Mob). But usually a toggle of WiFi will fix that.
I like the build Q of my HTC M7 better as well as the stability. But this was a better deal, and unfortunately better featured, otherwise I would have taken a M9.
Perhaps next year there will be a M10 (or MX) and I'll jump.
But I think as phones become more sophisticated, the carriers get more boxed in by the manufacturers.
OBTW, fave feature is the Paste Bin of the G4. Very smart.
Hi guys,
I'm getting a warm phone when surfing on the net. I could understand if it was a game or shooting 4k videos but not just by surfing on chrome.
Could any of you guys surf a little with your phone for 10-15 minutes preferably with mobile data and report back if it got warm?
Mine get warm... not slightly warm nor hot but warm. Funny thing is that by playing games it also the same warmy temperature and not much more, not even hot.
I found it strange since my old z1c didnt get warm at all just by surfing...
.up.
I've tortured my XZ1c for several weeks now and it's never shown any sign of getting even slightly warm.
Even after ten restarts in a row, configuring Substratum.
Perhaps you got hit by some coin mining script?
@Didgesteve
Damn, thats a depressive answer for me
DO you use stamina? what brightness level do you have?
My xz1c get warm pretty easyli....
Im thinking if I should send it to repair.... damn...
I recorded 4k video for 15 minutes for testing purpose... it got hot. Not super hot, but hot, so this should be ok IMO.
My question is why is getting warmy with low demand applications like surfing...
I wonder if Im getting a little paranoid about it...
can some one share their experience ?
It shouldn't get warm by just browsing the internets, maybe the sites you're visiting has too many ads or non-optimized ads?
actually no... i browse pretty much normal sites, gsmarena, talk.sony.com , some news site or even xda. Nothing uncommon.
Not even while charging, which surprises me. My S5 always got burning hot, without even using fast charging.
did change the phone to another new one. It gets warm also. Its probably normal, and with my personal use it gets like that... and maybe bcause im in a 15 degrees celcius land, I get the feeling it gets warmer too.
i do not understand, i do not use the phone, and it just discharges like 30% through the night, it is just warm for no reason.. -_-
the best part is that it was running fine like a few days ago, just fast forward 3 days later and it is lagging away and eating battery and dissipating heat
wtf is going on...
