Text correction way too aggressive - Verizon LG G2

Anyone else have serious issue with how damn aggressive the LG G2's text correction is? I've tried it on every level all the way down to mild, and it still insists on replacing words that I have spelled correctly with entirely different words which is frustrating as hell. I understand spell correction and text prediction, however this is something different. I could attempt to send the text "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" and it might decide to replace "fox" with "cat" and "jumps" with "flies". It's insane. Even if I have spelled the word correctly the damn thing just up and decides I must be trying to say something else, and I end up having to go back and basically retype the word and then force it to use what I typed. I tried typing $20 and it replaced it with "2am"!! What the hell!

I've been experiencing that too. Frustrating as hell. I ended up installing a modified google keyboard that has the number row since that's what I really like about the stock one. Works great plus they're themed.

@tholmes8291 @RunNgun42
Does the ROM you use, use the G3 keyboard like XDABBEB'S? If so then try the G2 keyboard. I had the same issue until I started using G2 one.

Thank you, this was the problem. Thing is, I even installed the Google Keyboard from the Play Store and it also replaced a lot of words, but I didnt trial it long enough to notice any real difference. The G2 keyboard seems to be working perfectly, only replacing typos and not full blown making auto-suggestions.

[Q] (SERIOUS issue!) Universal Android Texting Bug? Can it be fixed?

Scroll to the very bottom of this page and click "Vote for this issue and get email change notifications." RIGHT NOW to help get this issue fixed! http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9392
I have personally experienced this bug once that I can remember, and luckily for me it wasn't TOO big of a deal. I thought maybe it was a random, one time deal until I saw this post on Engadget. However, this bug is a lot more widespread than I thought.
The bug itself can be read about here: http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/31/android-still-has-horrible-text-messaging-bugs-thatll-get-you-f/
tl;dr:
1.Randomly, your phone may send a text message that you send to a contact to a random person on your contacts list with no warning.
2.Or, possibly less important, open the wrong text conversation when you try to open a text thread or open a text through via the notification bar.
Me personally, I've only experience the first issue that I listed one time. However, the second one happens often enough to annoy me, and enough that I double check every time I open a thread to make sure I'm talking to the right person.
My question is, is it possible for a dev (or multiple devs) to look in to this issue and fix it? Apparently it's only of "medium" importance as far as Google is concerned, but that's a bit ridiculous to me. People could literally lose their job or their marriages over something like this.
Also, IMO, this should be on the front page of xda..
EDIT: I'll also be posting this in the general Android forum since I think it needs more press.
hasnt affected myself.
using an htc sense ui, htc messaging app.
I have that issue with it openings the wrong thread. Didn't realize it was an OS glitch.

Bumping this, as it needs more attention.

Interesting. I did have an issue similar to this. It was in stock sense 2.1. I wanted to send a text to one contact, but it sent it to the last contact I had texted. Didn't know out was a universal bug.

I've noticed this since this first day I got my hero. I figured it was a glitch in the system or whatever. I just got used to it like you said, I check to make sure I'm talking to the right person.
Would be nice to have it gone tho if its an easy fix.
i cant say i have seen this issue, except the opening the wrong thread thing too
This doesn't happen on sense roms only stock mms.apk on aosp roms. I always double check cause it puts me in wrong threads all the time lol I failed once with a weiner pic to the wrong girl. It was very weird man very weird since then.
"I shave my armpits cause it makes me aerodynamic when i fight"
It appears the issue is now "critical" priority on Google's code page. Good! That's at least some progress..
I think Brett Favre is going to use this bug as his defense.
Step 1: Use Handcent
Step 2: ?????????????
Step 3: PROFIT!!!!!!!!
Okay, they could have handled this better, but the easiest way to fix it is to use some other app for a while. If Runkeeper doesn't work, I'll use Cardiotrainer for a while. Same concept.
Happened to me once.... I sent a nude picture to my GF and later that day it somehow got sent to another girl. Made an interesting conversation.
Anyways.... a flashable patch would be nice, if that is realistic.
An update! It appears an Android developer of some sort has posted saying the issue has been reproduced and fixed. You can read the comment here:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9392#c1460
"Thanks to everyone for your patience while we've been investigating these reports. As it turns out, we believe there are two distinct situations being discussed on this issue chain. Fortunately, we have fixes for both of them.
When some users tap to open a message in the Messaging application, they're seeing a different message appear instead. We don't believe this issue is affecting many users, but we've developed a fix that we're preparing to deploy. Of course, double-checking the displayed message before hitting "Send" will prevent any messages from being sent to the wrong recipients. We've found in testing this issue, it is more likely to occur if you tap on a message before the Messaging app is fully loaded, so we recommend waiting for all the elements to load before clicking on the message you want to display.
Separately, some users have reported that their SMS messages are being delivered to the wrong people. It took us some time to reproduce this issue, as it appears that it's only occurring very rarely. Even so, we've now managed to both reproduce it and develop a fix that we will deploy.
While we don't anticipate any persistent problems, we'll continue to investigate in case we come up with additional ways to trigger these bugs. Thanks again for helping us improve Android."
Hurray!

swype or ultra keyboard?

i tried installing both of these apps and neither work.
is there anything out there to make em work? or is there another swype style keyboard?
i am TERRIBLE at typing. its just not at receptive of a touch screen as the ipad. but i like the android way way more.
its like i have to press harder to get a key pressed.
thanks in advance
EDIT : also love the feature to type from ultra keyboard with your voice. obviously voice search works on the tab, but im loooking to do emails and such with voice too.. possible?
thanks
Have you run the touch calibration?
i have not... ill search around for it in the menu and clockworkmod
i did the screen calibration. didnt really do anything. its just possible the screen just isnt quite as responsive if i would like.
swype or ultrakeyboard is much more important to me
thanks
It's Swype for me...
I'm a big fan of Swype. I use it on my Droid phone and cannot live without it. I also have it on my gtablet, and continue to love it, although swyping on the large screen in landscape mode takes a little getting used to. Swyping in portrait mode is much better. However, I still like it over others.
Installing Swype is not a simple thing, since the normal install apps check in with Swype headquarters, where you'll be told you are not a phone, so goodbye. And many of the apks for the app will say your screen is not the right size. But search this site, and you will find many threads on the subject, including the link to the proper apk. Basically, you will have to google for a specific version of swype, and then track it down yourself.
It is not impossible. But worth the search.
I know you didn't ask about it, but IMO thumb keyboard is the best for our g tabs

I tried this, and while I like the large keys, I don't like the fact that it takes 100% of the screen up, absolutely useless for IMS or emails or almost anything else. I want something similar to the gingerbread keyboard but with taller, more square like buttons. I've tried using the TapaTalk or whatever it is on my VeganGinger install but it doesn't work at all.

Before I switched to thumb i was using SwiftKey, which was free on amazon Store not too long ago. It reminds me of the g bread kb. I wanted exactly what you wanted, a bigger g bread kb, but now I'm happy with thumb. Good luck.

The one-touch calibration app in this subforum did not work for me, but the calibrate.ini trick (where you put a blank file named calibration.ini in the root of your microSD card and reboot) did work for me. I was stabbing at icons left and right before (especially the home soft button, ARGH!), wanting to toss the Tab out the window, but now it's as sensitive as my Evo's screen.
Swype is easy to install if you find the right file. It doesn't really work all that well on a 10" in landscape mode though. You have to move your hand around too much to make it effective.
I have been using Thumb Keyboard from the Market. I can type with only my thumbs while holding the tablet in my hands. In landscape mode it puts each side of the keyboard close to the sides so the keys are easily reachable. In portrait mode I have it set to just give me the normal full keyboard. It works great and I highly recommend checking it out. It costs a buck or 2.
My only problem with Swype, at least the version I have, is that you cannot turn off the dictionary lookup auto correct. So if the word isn't in the dictionary (websites, usernames, etc...) swype will try to autocorrect to what it thinks it should be, or pop up the guesser window with nothing even close.
Also swype uses up the whole screen for many imput windows which isn't really needed on a tablet, but whatever.
I use SlideIT 3.2, works perfectly.
i just downloaded thumb keyboard. when i go in to language and keyboard, it wont let me populate the check box, enabling it.
it gives me the lil warning, then just wont check.
any help please?

Both versions in the Marketplace say for Android 3.0...just guessing.
tried swype but using slideit
I tried swype. i got it installed, then moved to /system/app but it wouldn't work other than as a normal keyboard. tried slide-it and it works great.

If you are having trouble wilh Swype You might try flexT9

This alternative works really well. I had it for my previous 7" tablet but when I got the xoom it was no longer available. They now support the xoom and I've reinstalled it. Is from the makers of Dragon Naturally Speaking. It costs 4.95 but includes 4 input methods: swipe, voice input, writing (but not cursive) and typing.
I really like it when I have to take notes. It's pretty quick and is pretty good in swipe mode with adding the correct punctuation, though until you train it, it comes up with some pretty humorous (or irritating) guesses. Voice recognition is really quite good. For regular typing its fine but I prefer the Tablet keyboard (as it is just like a pc keyboard).
Consider checking this one out.

I haven't been using it long enough to tell yet.
I'd like to be offered an option to use either flexT9 or the Tablet keyboard every time i start to type but I haven't been able to set that up. Do you know how?

yeah. go to settings--language and input---keyboard settings-input settings-select "always show"
this is off the top off my head as i don't have the xoom with me at the moment. i believe that's what you do to have the keyboard icon show up in the notification bar whenever you start typing. u can hit that icon and an option to what keyboard you want to use will pop up. remember to check the boxes all the keyboards you want to use in the settings menu before you proceed or else the flext9 will not show up as an optional keyboard.

Note 8 is absolutely illiterate with keyboard autocorrect

I am having so many issues with my phone after the upgrade to Oreo.
GPS
GMaps
Autocorrect
No VoLTE
Poor wifi that will not switch to a stronger network
Etc
Etc
The autocorrect is simply abysmal. And no matter what anyone may give explanations for the phone behaving as illiterate as it does, there is, sorry, No excuse for it.
An iPhone 5 which is God knows how old, is almost flawless whilst typing.
This thing needs more backspace corrections than is imaginable. Why?
All the keyboards are just frustrating. Maybe SwiftKey is a little better than the rest. But still.
Let's not go into cache clearing, factory wipes, delete app data, all excuses for something that just doesn't work very well.
And paying the colossal amount for a phone that one has to make this many compromises is not acceptable.
Just not very happy with the Note 8.
Example. I typed this on the phone
Frustrating = fruatrating
Typed = tiypes
Compromises = cimpromisas (??)
Imaginable = imigatble (WT..!)
I use Gboard from Google for a keyboard, and have very fast pace of accurate swiping for text
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
I actually prefer Gboard to SwiftKey. But the word predictions and spellings were unacceptably wrong most of the time.
I don't use swiping or shortcuts or abbreviations whilst typing.
The etc etc part makes me think that you are totally dissatisfied with the phone, so yeah, you're really better off buying an other brand phone. This whining here will get you nowhere.
Just my 2 cents.

Agreed...
I've tried going back and forth to the Samsung keyboard. I found it was really good on the note 7 but on this phone it's rubbish..
I agree on the Google maps issue too, if I'm using it for sat nav, I might as well not.. it doesn't seem to locate me accurately.
For what it is, the phone shouldn't have these minor, but annoying issues.
Best keyboard imo is Fleksy, it has insane autocorrect and if the corrected word isn't the one you were looking for with a simple swipe you will get the right one 99% of the time unless you typed something completely wrong. I really love it, I've tried all of them but only with fleksy I can type correctly even by missing every single letter on a word

I've tried several, but the main three I've used are Gboard (absolutely terrible, but fast), Samsung's stock keyboard ( far better than Gboard, but still lacking in the autocorrect), and Swiftkey (absolutely the best autocorrect, but within the past few years became so bad it would freeze constantly. I wish Samsung or Google would buy Swiftkey and use their own keyboard with Swiftkey's autocorrect.

I can't help you with your other issues as I don't have any of those on my note, I've never used samsung keyboard since I always change my dpi and set it so small that keyboard is unusable. But I would advise you to try Fleksy, I find it it's really good but it does have a learning curve but I honestly type super fast with it. Or also Minuum if I'm not wrong has a really good auto correct with the english language. Not so good with italian, but I still feel Fleksy is far superior because of the swipe to change auto corrected word. Still, the learning curve can be tough for some, all my friends who tried it didn't like it because you kinda have to stick with it for a couple of days in order to really get used to the "gestures". But if you really hate the others try it

Totally Agree!
GBoard is the best, but the autocorrect is simply shocking!
Swiftkey is slow. Can it be speeded up? The key delay, I mean?
How can you sync words with gboard? My gboard unable to sync learned words, lost all of the words after every factory reset and know nothing like John Snow.
I like gboard but I 'am so annoyed because of that.
Backup all the data that is stored on your device. Then perform a hard factory reset but wipe the cache partition first in the Recovery Mode menu.

I was going to say I agree about the autocorrect, but I did some digging and discovered you have numerous options for improving it. Mine had been set to samsung multi-language autocorrect although I was using Gboard! I changed it to English only and autocorrect by Google and - OMG it actually works flawlessly now!

Keyboard covers all text input

I'm using GBoard but I've switched to default Samsung keyboard and I get the same thing. Any app where the writing is on the lower end of the screen the page does not shift up so I can see what I'm typing. This is becoming a huge annoyance. Makes editing/correcting near impossible. It's been this way for a couple weeks now. I'm thinking something got changed or deleted somehow, but I can't remember doing anything. Any system settings that might affect this?. Just don't really know where to begin looking. I am rooted.
