error flashing with twrp 2.8.1.0 - Moto X Q&A

I've a stock xt1052 with 4.4.4, root and twrp 2.8.1.0 and whrn i try to flash some roms (like aicp or cm) , the process failed with response of recovery "E: error executing updater binary in zip '..path of file..'" ...any idea?

No one?!

No issues here flashing cm with TWRP 2.8.1.0

Maybe a bad download...

Verify md5sum?

I installed TWRP on my XT1052 moto x just last week, had some issues with flashing TWRP as well.
If the MD5 check is fine, you can try changing USB ports (sounds silly but it worked for me, found it in another xda post but had something to do with fastboot not playing well with some USB ports).

what do you mean? How to do the md5sum check?

I use root explorer. Long press the zip and select properties. At the bottom it will calculate your md5sums. Verify that matches to the download md5sum to verify it is a good download. Most all download pages have a md5sum listed to compare.

Then you have a good download
What is the sequence of your flashing.
When I flash aosp Roms I:
- wipe > factory reset only. I never wipe system separately.
- flash aosp ROM of choice
- flash gapps
- reboot system.
And no issues here ever flashing aosp Roms.
Hope this helps.

Also which aosp ROM are you trying to flash?

Wipe> swipe factory> then flash latest aicp release 6.0 and gapps together> error

Have you tried like cm11 or slimkat? Both of those boot fine for me. Never tried the ROM you are having problems with. The download files for aosp and moto x are now labeled ghost.

Link to the ROM you are trying to flash? You are flashing a aosp ROM for "ghost" which is moto X correct?

That is your problem! You need "ghost" build. That is why it is failing. The one you are trying is old. Try CM11 bet it boots fine.

Ok, i'm stupid u.u but i met the same problem with the same method , flashing the official cm11 nightly 31/10....and it's ghost

Hi,
Would you mind sharing how you did a restore of TWRP 2.7.0.0? [I did the same thing...doh!] My tablet is running fine but I just "hang" when trying to reboot into recovery - even when not plugged into USB]. I'm not sure "HOW FAR" back I have to go to get TWRP working again...I image I don't have to start from scratch with loki...... What's the simplest way to get TWRP back. [BTW - I flashed the 2.7.0.1 zip file from within TWRP.]
Thanks!!

Yea go ahead. Its totally safe to root. No issues or bugs faced till now. Follow this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/development/guide-root-moto-g-2nd-gen-2014-t2874245/

Yes you can root and unlock boot loader but I think the guy who posted it pulled the recovery part and closed his thread due to recovery bug issues.
Okay I will, thanks.
Though what's strange is the version number. I went to the official site of TWRP and the version was 2.8.0.0, but on the root thread, the version is 2.8.0.1.
Better use this recovery i found somewhere (image file, use flashify). With 2.8.0.1 i wasn't eable to create backups

Yup current TWRP v2.8 has some issues while flashing KK ROMS and taking too much time to clear cache. The device reboots automatically while taking a TWRP system backup.
We need a CWM recovery ASAP :fingers-crossed:

Okay, I need a little help here. I flashed the old twrp via fastboot but then got the mismatched partition size error. Well I thought what the hell, and I selected recovery from the menu, but the problem is that the phone doesn't go into recovery, just reboots. What should I do?
EDIT: I also tried rebooting via recovery when the phone wasn't connected to the laptop. If i press the power button on any of the options - normal powerup, recovery, factory or barcodes - the phone switches off.
EDIT 2: I tried getting into recovery via adb, but all I get is a 'no command' message when the phone reboots. A quick google search showed me that the no command message means that the phone still has the stock recovery. It seems like twrp isn't flashing. Any ideas!?

[Recovery](KENZO)TWRP-COFFACE (3.0.0) No patched boot.img required to flash MIUI roms

Hi All,
You guys must be thinking why i'm sharing this recovery when we already have Official TWRP Recovery
actually this Recovery is Lil bit modified (One of my friend Found it somewhere)
via this Recovery you guys will able to Flash any MIUI Rom without Modifying/Patching Boot.img (I tested it my self)(i flashed miui global stable 7.2.3 and global dev 6.4.28)no patched boot.img required
Note:- I'm Not responsible for any kind Of damage caused to your device
Orignal Link => https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6zD6Bewl4FmQVJGVVBOdzRmT2M/view
Password to the zip :- www.cofface.com
Instructions to flash
download the zip file (link provided)
extract The TWRP recovery.img (password given)
and flash it via flashify or Fastboot
Fastboot Command "Fastboot flash recovery "image-name.img"
yoo done
BUG:- Its not a major bug its not even a bug(i'm just considering it as a bug) but kinda annoying once you flash this recovery this recovery will change your device name from KENZO to CM_KENZO(this not gonna affect anything) but if you will try flash AOSP v4 or anyother AOSP build that verifies the Product name will give some errors
that "This build is for kenzo devices not for Cm_kenzo device"
Solution :- Open the zip in winrar and edit the updater script just change the Kenzo word with CM_Kenzo and it will work (alot of work to do right)
Another solution (this one is better i guess)
when ever you wanna flash MIUi official firmware flash this reocvery via Flashify.
flash the miui rom...
boot it up again flash the official TWRP recovery(so that you will able to flash other roms)
WARNING:- Dont flash miui rom via official TWRP recovery it will not boot untill you flash the Modify boot.img
Update
Bug fixed ===> "This build is for kenzo devices not for Cm_kenzo device"==>No Error now

Seems to work, but TWRP is in Chinese?
I used Cofface's abd + fastboot files and replaced cofface_recovery_twrp_kenzo.img with the fixed TWRP.img provided by Rajdip. I get some prompt from what I can tell, but since everything is in Chinese I don't know what to click. I'll try to find a solution and post it here.
Update (Solved):
I still don't know what the first screen message was about, but you can get into the normal TWRP menu by swiping the slider to the right. After that click the second from the bottom button on the right to get into settings. Press the globe-symbol on the upper tab bar. From there you can choose the language you want TWRP to be in.
Update #2:
Works like a charm for me. Just installed SuperSU as well. I'm on Redmi Note 3 SnapDragon with Global Developer ROM 6.4.14 (MIUI7), officially unlocked bootloader. Thank you very much for posting OP!

The first prompt that appears is whether you would like to make TWRP modify system files or keep it read only. In simple words, if you swiping to the right Mi recovery wont replace TWRP when MIUI roms are flashed. If anyone didnt swipe right on the first prompt, just goto mount and unselect the read-only option.

Nice to know. TWRP asked the same thing (again apparently) when I rebooted from menu to system. It also provided the option to install SuperSU (or rather install the SuperSU Installer - whatever that was worth). I'm confirmed rooted now and recovery is still TWRP after many reboots. :good:
But is 3.0.0.0
I don't understand that

No it will not fix that.... actually the thing Is When we unlock Bootloader with Official method it will not get relock while flashing any rom(via recovery)(miflash can still do that) in unofficial Method we replaces the emmc file with the modified one(and when we flash any official rom this file get replaced as this one is modified and (update. Zip/miuirom.zip) does not verify that emmc and relocks the boot loader....
What This recovery does is...
Miui roms inculde some recovery verification On The first boot
Which means it will replace twrp with the stock miui recovery which will cause bootloop...
For this we need to flash the patched/modified boot.img
But This recovery is Lil modified (it auto patches the boot.img and and our recovery does not get replaced and yoo thats how this recovery successfully flashes miui without a patched boot.img

Does this mean no more having to remove finger print security before doing a backup?

Happened to me, too. Flashed via fastboot, forced a reboot, booted to recovery, and (I think after entering my encryption password) it wiped the /data partition. Glad I had a TWRP backup from earlier in the day. :/

Probably not, the official TWRP for the 5X and 6P still need security removed before backup. But it doesn't hurt to try!

Hello,
I had the same problem while trying to install a new OS to my Samsung Note 4.
The solution that I found to be working is that I used TWRP version 3.1.0
After installing that version I was able to install the ROM that I wanted.
Hope this helps you,
