Upgrade to the G Flex?

As the title says, would anyone upgrade to the G Flex? I'm curious as I just finished watching MKBHD's video on how it heals from scratches and was really surprised. I knew it was good against scratches but a knife scratch? Really? I also did some googling and found that it will be coming to Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile So the hype train has officially started. In my opinion I think its some really cool tech and i have always been a fan boy of the curved screens (ex: GNex) but i'm still not sure its worth the money :good:

I was actually pretty impressed with that video and had no clue this was coming to Sprint until now. The screen size alone makes it very intriguing! I was very close to pulling the trigger on the G2, but I figured I would wait until the HTC One 2 was officially announced. However...this phone definitely has my attention.

I'm seriously considering it.

Having a note 3 I may miss s-pen, but will be cool to have a phone I can use without a case.

saw the commercial, very cool, the self healing and the flex screen. if it's more flexible, it'll be better. fit curve in pocket.

It's rather impressive, but I think i'd wait a bit to see how it handles more real life scenarios. And to be honest, I'm probably not going to upgrade until the next generation of processors.

As for the present, the improvements that curved phones have over their flat counterparts are rather minimal right now -- the extra value is certainly not significant enough for us to recommend that you spend $1,000 or more to get one

Yeah I think I'll pass on this.

I'm considering the LG Flex as an upgrade to my Note 2. Especially since we're starting to see FCC clearance as this being a tri-band sprint device. The O-LED kinda worries me, but that isn't going to be a deal breaker.

How does the screen look? It's the only thing holding me back as it's 720p.

My upgrade with Sprint is February 1st so right on time for the launch of this phone. I am pretty much torn between this and the Note 3. It's going to be a pretty tough choice, I've been debating a lot since it was announced when Sprint was going to release the G Flex.

Alot of early review say not worth it because of the price. Now that it comming to US I see price is going to be around same as Note 3. Im also considering the Note 3 or the G Flex. A big factor for me is if tmobile model can easily be rooted. If it's bootloader is locked the the choice is mede for me and choosing Note 3. I have the Note 2 and 720HD is fine when watching 1080p movies. Also camera picture quality is a big factor. Sadly G Flex does not have optical stabilization like the sibling G2.
just waiting to hold in my hand to deside and price also.

It's a fantastic phone to say the last. Has to be the most comfortable big phone.

Is the Pebble Steel worth it?

So, I'm really thinking about buying the Pebble Steel. Is it really worth the $250 though? Also, would you guys say this is the best smartwatch available on the market right now? Any feedback is appreciated!

i can't say it's the best because I've used none others and i can't say u should buy one because i don't know what you're after.
the pebble steel is, imo, a watch-lover's smartwatch. it has the design of a quality watch (besides the cheap bands). i have no interest in having a computer on my wrist, but having a remote screen to view my phone? yes please, and that's exactly what pebble makes. the steel is priced like a typical quality dumb watch. $200-300 is a good price for a well made watch with accurate time keeping and solid build quality. there does not exist another smartwatch that looks like a regular watch, that I can wear with a pair of cargo shorts, a suit, and a tuxedo. hell I don't have a dumb watch I'd wear with all attire. I basically wanted a better watch, and the steel, along with watch apps and the 3rd party pebblebits firmware has given me exactly what I want.
it's not perfect, but app and firmware updates are steady and bugs are being fixed. I don't think I could be any happier with it unless it took standard size bands.

Yes it's worth it but better wait a little bit for the new moto 360. They say that the 360 it will cost the same as the Pebble.

If know already know what the Pebble is capable of, and want to pay extra for the finishing (I didn't like the first version. It looked more like a gadget toy rather than a watch), then go for the steal.
The Sony one is also pretty cool, but the steal is the best looking (so far)

Given how easily my original Pebble's screen gets marked up, the Gorilla Glass on the Steel sounds like a good idea.
That said, I'd also suggest waiting for the Motorola 360. What you can do with the Pebble is (unfortunately) so limited.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! So I went ahead and bought the Pebble Steel! I figure if I wait for the 360 then I might end up spending the money that I have set aside for a watch on something else. Haha. If I decide I want the 360 later I can just sell the Pebble and pay the difference. I'm an impatient guy. Haha.

I've found it easier to McGyver my own custom high quality band to cure the cringe I get from the band that came with the device.

know a friend who purchased it thinking it'd look slick.. He is tremendously disappointed. When i saw it it didnt look all that great and the materials used didnt feel great . I have the original pebble and it feels much much better than that..

owner of both....i definitely think it's worth the upgrage....feels a lot more solid, looks a bit more professional....and now i see best buy will be carrying them for $229...to me, totally worth it

looks great.
there is a lot of good info at the official pebble forums regarding bands and quality and such. there are a handful of kickstarters making accessories and even watch band adapters allowing for standard sized bands to be used. if I wear out the standard metal band I will probably buy an adapter and find a standard band to replace it. Joe Pesci knows I have enough unused watches to 'steel' a band from.

It is definitely worth it.
My dad and I own a jewelry company so I buy all my watches wholesale. I had 42 at last count and I'm starting to think I should see a counselor. I go to the closet to decide what I want to wear and I can make the choice of anything from a cheap Fossil to a Citizen Eco-Drive to a Rolex Deep Sea. I pick my Pebble Steel for regular wear 99% of the time.
That's not to say that the Steel has the same "quality" as the Rolex by any means but for every day wear and use the Steel is actually quite a bit better. It's right there with every watch in it's price segment and matches up quite well even with watches in the $600-700 range.
The only glaring thing I don't like is the band but it's no worse than anything else typical for its price point.

LG Watch Urbane

LG plans to release this year a new Smartwatch after they are saying is a two colours variant and very stylish. The new LG device will be launched at MWC and will have almost the same configuration as LG Watch R has it! The new model is called LG Watch Urbane.

Moto 360 follow the classic watch line as design, the LG urbane is a little bit different

The Moto 360 has a great disadvantage: because it dosent have an amoled screen it dosent last a full day when always on (ambient mode).

What I would like is an LG Watch R (the same looks) but with LTE. Somehow the Urbane looks do not wow me but of course its all a matter of opinion. Just like to me the 360 looks better on pics than in real life (and of course the flat tire which for me, its a HUGE deal breaker).

Well, the watch looks, in my opinion, like jewelry. Nothing bad here in terms of design, however I would not wear it with any type of clothing. I don't see myself playing basketball or running while wearing this watch. Instead, I would use it at certain evens, it should look great with a suit or something semi-formal. While it did a good job integrating "smart" functions while preserving the traditional aspect of a watch, I feel that the direction which Motorola took makes for a better user experience.
Nevertheless, the LG G watch is a very good looking smart watch.

I fist wanted to buy 360 but gave up after trying it on my wrist, it looks like putting a clock with strap on my wrist! And I ended up buying the Asus Zenwatch.

I have the Moto 360 and wished I could use some simple and classic black watchfaces like the ones available on the LG Urbane http://forums.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?p=4399491
I use it with a suit every day and it would look great disguising the flat tire.

The biggest issue with technology is that there is always new and better coming out. It has been about 4 months after release. Am I late on this for $200 new and should wait for generation 3, urbane?

Good question. I am about to buy a like new one for $150 myself so I would love to hear some opinions.

Because of the slow response and my impatience, I decided to do a little googling. It looks like urbane and R are the same watch with a different shell.
I have no desire to get an additional data plan so Urbane LTE is out. The fact the regular Urbane is just a fancy case on a R., makes it reasonable for me to get the R.
Anyone got another view that differs what I said?

G watch r is a great watch still which is why I guess they used the same internals for the urbane. I still love my watch

I bought my R a couple weeks ago for 225 off eBay and do not regret it one bit. It's an awesome device that looks fantastic and performs just as good as it looks.

I bought my R on Feb 6th for full price LOL. I still love it, never leave the house without it. I never wore a watch before, even though I've bought a few over the years they never seem to stay with me long. The R is different, it does enough to make a few things easier for me that really makes it worth it to wear daily.

It's never too late for this device. It's late if you think moto 360. But the specs of this device can carry it for following two years..
I own this watch for more than 2 months now and m in love with it.

Got mine like new for $150 and loving it so far. I do miss the old zgpax s5 I had which was a full blown phone into a watch format but that one had no real integration with my phone and well no where near battery life, screen quality or simple good looks.

I must find a deal for a new one. I expect price drop once the urbane release.

I must be looking in the wrong places. You guys managed to find an LG Watch R for $150-200? Brand new?
The closest I found was an international edition with no warranty at $270

I have the LG Watch R and like it alot; I'm just so used to a heavier watch and actually prefer a heavier weight that it's taking me a while to get used to it. I got the aftermarket band that everyone links to (black stainless steel) but even that is really light. All in all it's a great watch the only real complaint I have is trying to read it in direct sunlight... it's impossible and you have to cup over the watch to read it. Other than that it's great.

I was thinking on getting the LTE when it came out but looks like it will have the Urbane looks which I dont like at all so I am holding to my Watch R for a while. :good:

I doubt anything better with a sweet price point will come out soon (the Urbane is already priced too high, and I think the Huawei will be dear too). I paid £200 (GBP) for mine. Not sure it's worth that much, although at least I'm not as foolish as the iFollowers and their ridiculous pricing.

I was able to get a moto 360 for $41 dollars with the sillie bestbuy deal. i may try to trade it in for a watch r.
but from reading recent articles, the updates has made it more comparable to the watch r.
slightly torn....

I've been holding out for the Urbane but someone made an interesting point. The G Watch R can be dressed down or dressed up. I can wear it with a suit and tie or with jeans and sneakers. The Urbane seems more of a suit watch.
Same internals. Same specs. I'm gonna pick up the R from Google. I haven't seen it priced lower and I'm not into used products. My Galaxy Gear is 2 years old and on it's last tooth.

Okay, so I've been playing with this thing for the last hour. Long enough to know it's being shipped back to Google. Highly disappointed with the watch and Android Wear. I can't believe how much of a crap experience this is.

Hey, don't take it personally. Android Wear is crap and this G Watch R is a POS. I thought my Gear had terrible battery life. I left home at 8 o'clock with 100% battery life. It's presently 9:43 and the battery is currently at 56%! This is with screen always off. Says I have at most 2 hours before it's dead! What kinda crap is this?
Why do people get defensive when someone states their opinion? I've been on XDA longer than most and this new crop of members have very thin skins. It's not like you own the company or coded this crap software - well unless you did in which case you need a new day job.
And to answer the OP's question - Yes, yes, run like hell in the opposite direction from anything with Android Wear on it. It's not ready for prime time.

Pebble right for me?

I currently have a Moto 360 and I feel it has to many features for me. I do not need the fitness stuff and the Google cards always showing up. I basically just want simple notifications (calls, texts, etc) and to be able to check my weather from my wrist. Sp, is Pebble right for me? I am looking at the Pebble Time but not sure I want to pay $199 for it. Should I just stick with the Moto or go for the PT?

The Pebble Classic is just to plain for me, I like the Pebble Steel but thought it took a special band if I decided to replace the band (is this incorrect)? Color or black and white is not a deal breaker for me. What else am I missing if I go with he Pebble Steel over the Pebble Time?

From what you are saying, it sounds like a Pebble would do exactly what you want from it, plus you get much better battery life. Apparently, the new Timeline feature is coming to the first generation pebble, so you wouldn't miss out on much eventually.

Well, I picked up a Pebble Time this morning. Immediately disappointed. I am a little bit older (I am 37), so maybe it's just my eyes, but this thing is very hard to read. I played with display settings and it did not improve much. I boxed it up and will be returning it. Is the Pebble Steel more readable since it is just black and white?

Make sure you update it to the latest version. They added brightness control because it was originally hard to read.

just swapped for a pebble steel. much happier with the watch display... thanks for the help everyone. now, to find some apps for this thing...

Just to verify, you have an information thet the oridginal pebble will get the new SW and will be able to do the same just in black a n white?

Yes. It is in beta right now and expected to hit the original Pebble and Pebble Steel by the end of the year.

I personally didnt care for the steel, but my partner loves it . and he has same interests as you

Not sure what the OP decided on but I had the original pebble, then upgraded to the pebble steel, then the Moto 360 2nd 46mm, and now looking and just getting the pebble time steel. Loved the pebble line but decided to try out a big boy watch with the 360. 360 2nd is a very nice watch but miss the simplicity and battery life of the pebble. Android wear I was swiping so much stuff away even after trimming it down that every time I looked at it there was another notification. Watch faces and screen are outstanding on it though.
