Chinese T805C - Galaxy Tab S General

Everything I have heard has told me this was the tablet to buy, however if you are in China, stay clear of it. This version is locked and will only allow you to replace the firmware with another Chinese firmware, some applications cannot be replaced with the same apks from other ROMS (Calculator, SamsungMagazine, etc) without breaking the system, the worst one being Webex, which will cause a bootloop.
Buy it in Hong Kong or wait until someone comes up with a way to change the bootloader so you can flash other Firmware, the files that are causing problems are not the same size as their counterparts in other ROMS, that indicates some official tampering.

I bought mine more than a year ago and thought it's a good idea to start customizing it.
I have been struggling for a long time now.
It detects any other rom that is not the original rom and refuses to install it , either through odin or custom recovery.
Hope someone can do something about it.

[Q] How to get Google Apps on the Chinese Z1

Been a long time Android user but never an owner of a Sony device. Currently I am living in Beijing and within crawling distance to my home is a Sony experience store. I've been playing with the Z1 and love the device. The problem in China is that all Google apps are removed due to China's policy. Personally, a device without google apps shouldn't be an Android device but that's a whole other topic. I have not purchased the device for that sole reason. I'm sure there is some chinese online guide to rooting and getting around that but considering I cannot read Mandarin that does me little good. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

If you are trying to find an official way, I don't think you can, because I had the same problem a few days ago apart from that I can read Chinese. You might want to unlock you bootloader and flash a firmware like the Taiwan one which comes with Google apps(Gapps). Apparently, the CN firmware can't really install the Gapps properly (from what I search on the web). But unlocking your bootloader and stuff means you will lose your warranty, so do reconsider carefully before you do so.
If you are planning to do so, there are a lot of information in the android development discussion board, and thats what I used to 'fix' my device. The only hard bit for you might probably be rooting the device, but it's really easy, just one click with the VROOT thing.
One downside is that so far I have seen a few including myself who unlock bootloader on their device resulted in mallfunction camera (camera that doesn't capture photos or record videos) which I now overcame in some sort of trail and error way.
P.S. I don't have any technical background in these areas, so the above are just what I experienced with my phone after searching on the web.

Thanks for the response, much appreciated. Did you flash the Taiwan version or just keep your device stock with the Chinese FW?
And from what I read about flashing the Taiwan FW is that you will lose your camera. That's a lot to lose just to gain gapps. If this was HTC or Samsung I would be able to figure this out without an a problem but Sony uses a whole bunch of different tools that I am not familiar with.

I forgot to mention about that in the previous rely but now I have edited it. In additional, I did flash the TW firmware and the following its how I overcame the camera problem : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45611382&postcount=6
But I do admit it is not a very reliable way to get your camera function back, so consider carefully again...
Also, if you need help on the VROOT thing I guess I can offer you some help. I didn't use the 360 root, because it keeps on telling me my OS isn't Chinese when I tried to install the thing when I am using Chinese OS

hey guys, I am so wanting to buy Z1 soon (I live in China as well)
I have a question regarding flashing:
IF we have ROOT, cant we just FLASH STOCK firmware (real stock, not custom) from any region on the phone?
That should be WORKABLE right? I want to wait for HK stock firmware FTF, and then flash that over the Chinese one if I got the phone.
This is possibie without unlocking bootloader right? Unlocking BL is mosttly for CUSTOM ROMS, am I right? anyone can confirm?
Thanks guys~~

[Q] Change SKU from CN to US or WW, how?

Hi kids, as per title, my issue is quite simple: I (unfortunately) live in China, and my pad came with CN firmware. I realized that it also came with no gapps installed, and that's a bummer. I'm about to root it, so I'll be able to install gapps as system apps manually one by one, but that's a huge waste of time and it's not an elegant solution, too.
This said, how can I -SAFELY- change my SKU version from CN to WW or US? After rooting, can I do the manual update procedure and put the unzipped FW from Asus in the microsd card etc etc? Or is there some other way?
P.S. I'm not planning to install any recovery at the moment: I actually received my pad last week, and I hard-bricked it in 30 minutes following the recovery install guide in the dedicated thread (too lazy to link it now, but it's just out there in the other forum - I didn't follow the now locked one, I followed the other one, where so many people seemed so happy with the result -__-). Luckily either the seller of my tab or the asus service desk he sent the tablet too were too dumb to realize I dabbled with it... and they restored the system for free although you could see UNLOCKED on the screen at boot anyhow that's why I'm NOT installing recovery now, not until there's a tested "official" version I can just slap in with ROM Manager. So, do I need a recovery to change my CN to WW or US? Or it can be done some other way?
Cheers!

Not sure if you can, but if you could i think the only way would be to an offical Asus ROM with a different SKU manually via fastboot. But since you already had problems installing a custom recovery this might not be for you.
I think remembering when i owned the TF300 and Jelly Bean (or was TF101 with ICS?) came out that the only way at first was to flash the US-version of the ROM (since WW wasn't out yet). Which is what i did and i hadn't any problem. A week or so later when the WW version came out I went back to WW.
But i'm really not certain anymore. Maybe someone else knows if it's possible or not.
Not possible

actually it is if rooted and have cwm or something.
it will let you flash any firmware. though there are risks of bricking.
I did the same on my old acer was an AU now it`s ww because ww had less bloat ware and the 4.1 had been out for 2 months and au didn`t get it and i was impatient

only if the hardware is different i.e. dock jpn has diff buttons. some brands have diff wifi hardware depending on region etc.
however in the case of au and ww acer the tab is the same besides pre-loaded bloatware.
as is the case for most of the versions of tf701. cn jp and TW would probably not be wise to go to ww or us due to the dock but i can`t be certain.
It might just mean the language ime buttons won`t function but it might also mean the dock won`t function at all.

I'm pretty sure i did it, but i didn't have a dock, so it was the tablet only. Didn't run it that long either, like 3-4 days, so maybe it was too short to see what didn't work anymore...
I was trying to find back the post here on XDA, but i think it has been rewritten when the WW-version came out.
What's beneficial to flash a different sku Rom?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Benefit is that on CN SKU I got no gapps and in return I got a boatload of chinese crapware. No google play. No maps. No gmail.
I'm actually struggling with the vendor to take it back, since as it is now, it's actually nothing more than a paperweight:
-Bootloader can't be unlocked, since the unlock software calls home to Asus, and my SN is not recognized.
-Since bootloader is locked, I can't root.
-Since I can't root, I can't install Gapps, I can't do basically anything.
Would a working nvflash let me fix all this? Or with a locked bootloader I'm definitely screwed? Would it be worth the wait?
if ur sn is not recognised then its a knock off or stolen from asus factory imo
i would force a refund

...and in the end that's what I did. I loved the concept, but the actual thing was crippled. I leveraged the double-SN-thingy and the hardware connector issue, and after some discussion I got my refund. Bought a note 10.1 2014, not what I wanted, due to lack of keyboard and battery life, but it seems it's the second best tablet around (in my opinion).
I would have been happier with a working Asus, but problems were too many. At least the note does what it promises, even though it promises "less", and I never even used the S-pen once since I unboxed it.

How to flash international firmware (for using in Europe)?

Hello everybody,
a friend of mine has recently come back from a 12 months work experience in NY (we live in Italy) and gave me his american Galaxy S6 Edge since he has just got a brand new Iphone 7.
This S6 is AT&T version (SM-G925A), sim unlocked, still Lollipop installed.
My question: is there a way to flash SM-G925F international firmware and get OTA here in Europe?
I already read about people trying to do this for using in USA, but posts are 2 years older or without replies.
I read also about compatibility of LTE network...but I just want to give a try.
Any advice?
Thank you guys
I have the same phone as i used to work overseas.
I would not suggest you would change to F version as you might brick it, or since it is built for AT&T it should stay on the AT&T. Think of specific drivers and so on. This version has slightly different hardware from the European version.
Why not update the firmware with Odin. start with lollipop updates go to marshmallow and nougat.
Thanks my friend, you were right (almost brick the phone). Now I'm on MM At&T but with DRK error, something about dm-verity.
Phone always reboot in recovery with this error; I had to flash a special stock kernel found here that, I suppose, disables dm-verity, just to boot it up.
Maybe the EFS folder got corrupted...no way to install Nougat via Adb, I'm unable to mount system as RW.
I actually didn't know that there were Samsung phones around the world with bootloader locked down...shame on At&t!
My friend didn't even want it back, now it's on my desk taking dust...what a waste of good hardware!
Thanks anyway

Good ole US carriers. Gotta love em. I aint seen the light of root or unlocked bootloader in a few years now other than my g4. Which no roms no twrp. But root only.

newbie warning: don't re-lock bootloader, and beware flashing any custom ROM. &OTA...
only modify a phone you are willing to throw away.......
##
pre-note: TWRP 3.3.1-0 -> fastboot boot twrp.img (this is temporary)
before doing anything, backup some little partitions: EFS, fsg, Vendor. Maybe others. You will need these to get back to a working stock.
##
$$
DO AT YOUR OWN RISK - I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY.
note added 2-27-2020: it may be that some problems with returning to stock are due to not (in TWRP) advanced wiping data, system, dalvik ART cache before flashing. You can do temp "fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-0-payton.img" w/o quotes, and do it there. -changed/edited. don't use TWRP to flash a stock zip!
$$
NO FIX IS KNOWN FOR ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS. PHONE IS DESTROYED.
newbie warning: don't re-lock bootloader, and beware flashing ANY custom ROM.
On the X4, the bootloader changes drastically between 8 and 9 as it introduces a dual file system which is used by OTA updates to alternate the live system, and as a backup if failure. It is not a true Treble system, only partial. You must not depend on being able to flash back and forth between O and P. If you update to P, stay there. I expect this to be exacerbated by those phones which update to 10, if that in fact happens(probably One/fi only). There is also much confusion as to which file system/setup any custom ROM uses, and thus, how you would get back to stock, if that is even possible. Be very careful and assure yourself that you are fully willing to lose permanently your new phone before you do anything. Please read posts in these forums.
I've seen many posts of folks, mostly noobs, who have flashed ANY custom ROM Lineage and are unable to get back to a working stock. Sounds super simple but apparently it's not. Best to assume that if you try things, especially Lineage, that you will never be able to get back to a working stock. Read a bunch of posts here and you will realize that.
I've also seen a bunch of folks on this phone, and other phones who have run a bat file to flash their phone which contains the line
"fastboot oem lock" or similar.
Don't do it!!! - This will lock your phone and you will never be able to do anything with it again. It is totally unnecessary to lock your phone. Folks who should know better are leaving bat files lying around with this command. If you use one of those bat files to flash your phone, just check and remove that command line. Else you will have destroyed your phone. That's one of those things that "sounds good" until you do it.
EDIT: You can run stock on a bootloader unlocked phone - I do it all the time - plays PoGo just fine. I don't know about banking apps - I don't use them as I assume any 10-year-old can and will hack my phone.
EDIT: 6Feb2020: folks are reporting taking a security OTA onto a modified phone and rendering their phone(s) unusable. Only take OTA to a pure unmodified (no Majisk ever on it)(etc)(no mods ever on it)(stock recovery)(etc) stock ROM. Heed this warning. All of these "temporary" mods leave traces that screw up the update process.
EDIT: this was successfully fixed. see: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/help/ota-update-endless-fail-loop-ppws29-69-t4045771 my guess is only works if you haven't changed bootloader or file system - NO custom ROM.
NO FIX IS KNOWN FOR ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS. PHONE IS DESTROYED.
Please do a lot of reading here before you try to modify your phone, unless you are totally willing to render it useless. A word to the wise.

afaik, you can't. Return the phone and get your money back. There will probably be a bunch of these worthless phones put up for sale. If you can't return it you could try the suggestions of sd_shadow in other threads here, but I don't believe they were successful on the X4.

Good to not be trusting!!!! With this (or any) phone, I recommend you get only from a place (like ebay) where you can easily return it and get your money back. ebay can force a reluctant seller to refund your money. Assure that the seller has a 99% + rating and says they will accept returns and pay for return shipment, usually for 30 days. I don't think you can easily tell if it has been unlocked and re-locked - only that it works perfectly, or doesn't. You can check the ID of the ROM in your phone against the latest for your area by checking lolinet.
When you get it, check all functions and assure IMEI is present. check wifi, BT, etc etc. Make calls. Check that the phone works with the towers in your area and with a local SIM. etc etc. read here and find the things that folks having problems where it won't do things and assure your phone will do it. Install Pokemon Go on it and play it briefly to assure your phone hasn't been modified. I have no idea if any of these phone will work with any banking or payment apps, and each app will have it's own specific checks that it performs against the phone. Test what you will use. Fully. ASSUME NOTHING!!!
As far as rooting it and/or unlocking it, I would strongly advise against it. For this particular phone X4 I would determine that it works perfectly and then NOT modify it. Unless, of course, you are willing to throw your phone away and buy a new one without a second thought(most of us don't have that kind of money!). Mine happened to have been unlocked when I got it from ebay but it was on a stock 8.1 and it was able to, and did OTA update to the latest Pie stock ROM. Thus I was easily able to assure if was okay. It being unlocked seems to have affected nothing. I have never tried to root it or do anything to it (recovery or otherwise) as I read far too many posts of folks here who had rendered their phones incapable of returning to a working stock, and only on a limited custom. Not what I wanted. I have not heard of anyone successfully getting one of these phones back to a FULLY WORKING stock state.
The days of getting a phone and easily modifying it and then returning it to stock may be gone. Get a phone you will enjoy, and use it! Unmodified!!! Welcome to pre-Treble part1a . Expect a few years of growing pains.
I like my phone and enjoy not having to worry about whether a custom ROM will work and constantly be chasing updates and fixes. I use a case - I believe it is this one
https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Motoro...hash=item33d89fee5a:m:mU5XV7jSj1TfD_kr-L4VT9g
which, so far, has protected it from several minor falls. I would never use any phone w/o a case!!!
But i think if the phone gets unlocked the bootloader and flash twrp making a backup of the stock recovery before just booting the twrp custom recovery then flash magisk on twrp on top of Stock PIE , After Of Course Make A Full Backup Of all partitions reboot and then on Stock PIE have ROOT. and never flash custom roms and never lock the bootloader and stock can be reflashed without problems with a script on linux with fastboot on bootloader-fastboot mode this plan can work , NO ? i had a E4 sprint and never had problems doing that
I need root for A Lot Of Things like Xposed Drivedroid Youtube vanced Adway ETC.
Can Anyone who is reading this have done this just root pie on this phone with unlocked bootloader ? and able to restore stock flashing it back with the retail firmware just to remove root and clean the stock and recovery ? or try to put android one ? the phone which im going to buy its the XT1900-6 retail brazil i already have the retail stock official pie rom ready to flash and with the script on linux with no fastboot oem lock anywhere .

I posted a new thread on these OTA issues with the X4 at https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/help/ota-update-endless-fail-loop-ppws29-69-t4045771. I was never presented with an "option" to install the latest OTA, it just automatically attempted to install (apparently a FORCED update) and is continuing to do so and failing ad infinitum. That phone works, just getting constant failure notifications. Question is, how to stop the attempted updates?
The second identical phone (updated per Magisk OTA tutorial instructions) is borked, with no phone connectivity. Can these be recovered by wiping/flashing stock rom PPWS29.60-39-6-2 and get them operating again as stock? I can forego the OTAs if there's a way to stop them from screwing up the device.
I never had other than stock recovery on either of these phones, I always boot TWRP via fastboot to do mods.
EDIT: XDA system is stalling and caused double post. Sorry. Mod please delete.

@redwoodie , please don't post to this thread. I read all your threads/posts but have no information.
NO FIX IS KNOWN FOR ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS. PHONE IS DESTROYED.
As to whether "x" strategy will work, you are certainly free to explore that on your own, in your own thread.
No one here knows. I am certainly not going to experiment on my own phone and run the likelihood of having to buy a new one. Folks like yourself keep showing up and doing just that because they are SURE it will work. But it hasn't.
Read all the posts.
There are very few folks left here on this forum. Once they have destroyed their phone, and tried a bunch of things, they move on.
THERE IS NO SOLUTION.
This thread is only to warn newbies.
I personally know nothing about the phone other than what has been posted by others.
Read it.
If you discover a true solution that allows a phone to work perfectly ON STOCK, please post it and you will make lots of folks happy, assuming it is repeatable.
However, no known solution.
But, again, you are free to explore solutions - just not in this thread, please. Thanks.

DO AT YOUR OWN RISK - I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY.
note added 2-27-2020: it may be that some problems with returning to stock are due to not (in TWRP) advanced wiping data, system, dalvik-ART-cache before flashing. You can do temp "fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-0-payton.img" w/o quotes, and do it there. -changed/edited. don't use TWRP to flash a stock zip!
This guy is full of crap

only modify a phone you are willing to throw away.......
NO FIX IS KNOWN FOR ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS. PHONE IS DESTROYED.
Please do a lot of reading here before you try to modify your phone, unless you are totally willing to render it useless. A word to the wise.

I've literally put so many different custom ROMs on this phone. I've bricked it, unbricked, hard bricked it and soft bricked it. Stop misinforming people bro. The Moto G6 I would say to be careful with but still I wouldn't make a post like this guy. The Moto x4 just requires a little prep to make it a full treble, GSI accepting, custom Rom beast. Plus there are a few official ROMs out there even Android 10 for the Moto x4 specifically. Don't be scared. Just research a lot and follow instructions

Compatible ROM for N920P

Hi,
A question I hope someone can answer:
The short version; would this (N920PVPS3DQF1_N920PSPT3DQF1_SPR.zip) ROM be compatible with the N920P Note 5 variant that's currently on this (NRD90M.N920PVPS3DRH1) build number?
The long version; My GF has a Note5 of the Sprint N920P variety which she bought new in 2017(? The hardware version is N920P.04, if that matters). The phone is still on Android 7.0 (build number NRD90M.N920PVPS3DRH1)
The phone has (always had) lousy battery life and a tendency to crash at random, so I thought I'll take a crack at rooting the device to get some of the Sprint crap out, and maybe even install a more recent version of Android.
Apparently the latter will not happen (or is not worth trying as GF can't/will not deal easily with any obstacles/work arounds) as there seems to be no ROMs that's fully working on this Sprint version [is this really true?!]), but Magisk root route is still available, with one caveat.
When I went to look for a backup factory firmware (here), just in case something goes wrong, I could not find the ROM GF's phone has, and the closest one is this ROM (N920PVPS3DQF1_N920PSPT3DQF1_SPR.zip). Would it be compatible with her phone?
Also, is TWRP the only recovery available for this phone?
Thanks for any pointers
Rooting it is easy just use Magisk. The version of the zip looks ok. TWRP is the best - Not sure why you would want to use anything else. Also use TWRP to make a backup if possible. I used an OTG drive to make a backup.
Best rom so far is MOAR.Check XDA. Be aware banking apps detects rooted phones.

It's true that the N920P doesn't have a fully working custom rom available right now. You could try flashing noblelte but mobile data may not be working, and if it is, you may not get LTE, let alone CDMA.
Yes, N920PVPS3DRH1_N920PVPS3DRH1_SPR is the currently most recent that the stock rom version, so there is no benefit or reason to flash QF1 on it, since R comes after Q in the alphabet
TWRP is the only recovery for N920P.
Crossfire81 and ripee, thank you both.
GF lived, suffered, survived, and now with the T-mo/Sprint merger, she's moved on to an unlocked N10+ just last month, so the N5 is my to play with.

Great, if you want to give any feedback on roms on the SPR variant, find our threads and let us know.
