[Q] Rooting the HTC ONE 8 HTC One® M8 Harman/Kardon - Sprint HTC One (M8)

I have searched about the HTC One® M8 Harman/Kardon® edition, and need a link of what others are doing to root , roms, and not harm the features. Rooting is my main concern, unlocked, and s-off. I know backing up my firmware can take me back to kardon. But I have a love for roms, the challenge of tweaking, trying our great devs hard work,. I don't know if rooting knowledge here will damage my device (even though we are all sprint. The help from senior devs and members to link me in the right direction would be a godsend. Just bought my device new for 629., and a brick would kill me before the wife. any advice would be great full. The harmon kodon makes me worried because its barely talked about. Need a basic link to s off and unlock the loader, and root. Recovery....im stumped. Will appreciate any feedback... My htc max was a small project. This version of the m8 has my head depressed. All the best, rob.

Look at this site. I also have the hk version:
http://htconeroot.com/htc-one-root/how-to-root-htc-one-m8/
To s-off, you may have to use the sunshine method (cost 25 bucks I believe). The firewater s-off method worked for me but I hear it doesn't work for the newer phones.

The latest version of Sunshine will also unlock the bootloader so you don't even have to fool with HTC Dev. Also, as a FYI, there is no difference rooting the M8 HK edition versus the standard M8.

[Q] s-off/ bootloader/ custom rom

Hello people.
Before i get a comment Like ''google it", i want to clarify that i think this thread will be useful to many people here. Why? Cuz i strongly beleive that many many galaxy users wont be grtting the gs4. No need to state the reasons.
Therefore, i bet many people, including me, are noob with htc devices and i would appreciate any help since rooting on gs3 was fairly easy compared to htc.
I know that with s-on i cant install custom roms , but i can still root it right? If i want to install a sense based ROM, do i need s-off? Or its only for aokp, cynogemod, etc?
For recovery mode, do i need s-off, bootloader unlocked? Or both?
Bootloader: does the international version comes unlocked?
Last question: who had htc one x or other previous 2012 htc devices, which ROM was more stabled? Batterywise? Speed?
Thanks in advance.
Sorry if any stupid questions made. But im rly noob.

With S-ON you CAN install custom ROMs AND root the device.
Only the UNRELEASED HTC DEV edition (only an US version has been announced so far) comes with an unlocked bootloader.

With S-Off you can flash the kernel through your phone alone(without relying on fastboot on PC). And you can downgrade hboot, basebands etc.
In short S-Off is a more deeper level of tweaking to a point that you could brick your device permanently. Bootloader unlocking is just... unlocks your bootloader. And the bootloader has the capability to mess with the kernel and system partition.
If you're using a Windows.
S-Off = Administrator privileges
Bootloader unlock = standard user
Locked bootloader = Guest user

Thx! That clears my doubts. Só with s-off i Can also flash custom ROM without PC?
Now I realize why ppl say sg3 is easier.

You can flash a kernel/boot.img without fastboot or a pc even if you are s-on. There is an updater-script mod to accomplish this.
S-Off = security check off. Meaning you can flash radios/fw etc that are not signed with HTCs private key.
Do we get updates rafter we unlock bootloader? If not - will simply locking the bootloader help to get updates?

No you will not get ota updates if you unlock the bootloader.
But I don't know what will happen if you re-lock it!

I will just try to buy the dev. Edition from US so I don't have to worry about unlocking lol.
My next step will be to learn how to root it and flash new ROMs

Sadly I won't be getting the dev edition since I'm not willing to pay $650 for a phone. Upgrading for $300 is a whole lot more appealing than paying $650. Hopefully someone will figure out how to unlock the bootloader for the AT&T locked version since obviously it won't be getting unlock through HTC Dev.

Why not? I saw at the blog that people could unlock from their website?
Also for me 650 is cheap. Do you know how much is an iPhone 5 64gb in my country? 1200 us dollar Lil.
You are luck to get a phone for only 300

Yeah I know some people got it worse. :/ but also a iPhone here for 64gb is 800 I believe. Still a big price gap between 800 and 1200 though.
The reason it won't be unlockable is because AT&T in the past had always had locked bootloaders that weren't unlock able byHTC Dev. I think the One X got it after a few months but I'd prefer not to wait. But for 300 vs 650 I can wait a bit. As long as it doesn't take like a year.

Questions before buying m7

Hey guys,
I've decided to buy a M7. Because my money doesnt last, i've to buy a used one
Well, I like custom Roms and want to install one on this device.
But before I buy one, I have still a few questions:
Are there any special versions of the m7 which dont can be unlocked / crom installed?
Can I install a crom only with a by htcdev unlocked boatloader? What I can with s-off, i can't with s-on unlocked boatloader?
Do i get a higher hboot Version with a higher Rom Version? So if I install 4.4.2 OTA i get the newest hboot?
Are there any differences between the hboot versions? Does a Rom runs better with a newer hboot or something like this?
How is the battery drain?
Thanks for your answers

Can't really answer all the questions but I'll answer what I can:
1. Depends where your m7 was from. Tmobile/Verizon/Sprint had some differences. It affected the way I had to root my phone. Flashing roms should be universal depending on the package you use.
2. Not sure what that means with the grammar bit. You need bootloader unlocked to flash a new rom. Most of them come S-on unless you bought an OEM which may have come S-off. You can flash roms with the phone S-on.
3. Higher bootloader versions seems to come from more later models of the HTC One from what it seems.
4. Bootloader versions seem to affect the difficulty level of being able to turn something from S-on to S-off more than anything for the average joe.
5. Battery drain depends on what you do with the phone and how much brightness/volume etc you were having. I play games on my phone now and I need to charge my phone (from about 10-25%) to about 70-85% about 2-3x a day. I play pretty often (rotating between brave frontier and puzzles and dragons and the like). I also don't charge 0-100% to conserve my battery's life. Also, it will depend on how well the previous owner has treated the phone's battery before it arrives in your hands. If they 0-100% it before many times, you can be sure the battery life is not going to be what was advertised.
Take my ansewrs with a grain of salt because I'm not a dev, but I just lurk and tried to learn to tinker with my phone. Hope it helps.

1) Dual sim variant
2) If u unlock the bootloader, you can flash a custom recovery and root. Even if S-ON, you can flash Cyanogenmod and all Sense roms. S-OFF is needed for GPE based ROMs
3) Only if you're on a stock unrooted One with a locked bootloader, OTA's will update HBOOT. But, if you're on a custom ROM, you'll need to manually flash the updated firmware, which updates HBOOT.
No, there's not really a difference between HBOOTs. Update them if you wish to. No compulsion
4) Battery drain is lesser on custom kernels than on stock
Okay thanks for your answers.
I read a bit more and I read that its only possible to change the cid with s-off. And the cid is important for RUUs. And for some brandings there arent any RUUs right? So its usefull to get s-off if I have a ****ty branding, otherwise its not usefull for me I think.
I've read there are problems with T-mobile brandings, what are their specials?
And because of the battery, I need for one day around 3h display on at medium brightness. I think I will use the arhd Rom. Is this possible ?

Tmobile is GSM. So, its nowhere as problematic as Verizon or Sprint. Plus, Tmobile hasnt recieved 4.4.3, so its on HBOOT 1.56 or lower. So, there's really no S-OFF problem.
I think you'll easily get upto 4.5 hours on stock kernel. Otherwise, custom kernels are also there which have better optimisation

When there's moderate/low light, the camera is unable to pick up that original colour. It gives off a horrible looking purple tint. It appeared on quite a few devices, including mine.
HTC definitely wont fix it if its bootloader unlocked unless you have a developer edition. I RUU'ed the phone before giving mine fr repair. Service was excellent; within 3 days, they gave it perfectly repaired.
Im not sure if all newer models are fixed; if you're lucky, itll be alright
Well, that makes me contemplative..
Is the stock Rom very bad Or its useable?
Especially the battery drain interest me compared to a crom.
Because if I havent any guaranty after flashing a crom and there are such Hardware problems.. I dont know if this is worth.

You always have the option of returning to stock. I had a custom ROM on my phone when i noticed the issue. I RUU'ed the phone back to perfect factory settings. You will also be able to do the same. You can regain manufacturer support if you have hardware issues
No, the stock ROM is pretty good. I used it for 2 months before i rooted. The built in power savers work very well; there isnt a considerable difference between stock and custom ROM
I wouldn't say stock ROMs are bad for battery life. I still think custom ROM + custom kernel (ie elemental or bulletproof) gives much better life

I've used a M7 that was ATT as my last phone I Unlocked that Via a Unlock code from a website for 15$ And I don't live in the USA I live in Sri Lanka :fingers-crossed:
Thanks in advance have a good day.
Little hope for sprint ones.
You can download a file and flash it on the bootloader via the Sim Unlock option, but as much as i know it only worked for AT&T and T Mobile. You could give it a try though but i think theres a Risk of a brick

I can't take that risk sadly :/ Thanks for your reply mate ! :good:
Bump ! help a bro out
I haven't heard anything about people not being able to SIM unlock the Sprint M8. The only issue I have heard about is that some cannot get S-Off without Sunshine (Which costs $25). There are several posts on this forum regarding SIM unlock. I have done it twice now and both times I was not in the US and thus not on Sprint's network. One time in Malaysia and one time in Costa Rica. The simplest is to install BadBoyz HK rom and then use the unlock method in their post. The unlock took about 5 minutes. You may need to enable other frequency bands on the phone, but that wasn't difficult either and there is a post in the general forum about how to do that.
how are you sim unlocking your sprint m8?
use bad boyz method, it works
but make sure you'r on bad boyz rom when you do the sim unlock, wont work with stock rom. after then sim unlock, you can go back to stock rom if you want to.
no need for s-off to sim unlock

[Q] [Help] HTC6500LVW Verizon

Ok I'm about go insane I have just updated to the latest version for this phone Lolipop 5.0.2 and now I have no root and been trying to figure out how to get root or how to go back to a official version like 4.4.3 or 4.4.2 but I'm just so frustrated I can't focus or even read really feel like throwing this phone off a cliff... please help me btw I have tried KingRoot and it does work but once my phone turns off and back on it doesn't wanna work anymore any help is really appreciated maybe try to make it a little simpler for me to understand and my theory with KingRoot is that after the first use the second time around its like while KingRoot is trying to get root access during the process my phone just deletes kinguser because my es file explorer ask me if I want to delete the files that kinguser left behind.

Its very simple you'll see.
flash latest twrp recovery for sprint
boot in twrp recovery
exit twrp recovery
when trying to exit you'll be prompted to install root on the phone
select "yes"
wait for the phone to reboot
or
Flash any custom recovery of your choice, as long as its compatible with the sprint variant of M7
boot in your custom recovery
flash supersu2.46.zip in recovery
reboot
If your phone isn't already bootloader unlocked, you can't unlock it from htcdev.com since Verizon asked HTC to block bootloader unlock for their phones. In that case you will need to temp root your phone so you can s-off it and unlock it using sunshine. Once s-off and unlocked you can root using what said above.
everything explained here http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...root-root-method-bl-unlock-5-0-x-ota-t3122099
I hate Verizon.... And I can't afford sunshine right now so I'm stuck :c

yay ik what you're saying but I really do like the LG G2 I have been using the htc one for about 2 years now and the only big feature I really loved about it is Beats Audio so I think I'm gonna sell this phone or try to trade it for the G2.

Good luck selling the Verizon variant of the M7, you can get a brand new verizon htc one for 119$ off contract so I guess you could maybe have 60$ for a used one if its in mint condition. Trading it for another phone would be a better idea imo if you are tired of this phone. I would simply buy sunshine and keep using this one, but thats only my opinon, I don't see the point in changing a 2013 phone for another 2013 phone...Its not like if it was an upgrade....
