Hi all,
I just updated my HTC Shift with an SSD GMonster Photofast 1.8 ZIF V4 128GB and RAM 2GB Kingston DDR2 214pin MicroDIMM. Both was bought from eBay. The 128GB SSD cost me 589$ and the 2GB RAM cost me 189$.
My WM side is flashed with the Age of Beauty ROM by Thaihugo with GPS and Phone activated wich works better and lite version have a lot of free space. On Windows side I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate.
I have old experience with cell phones repairing and software updating so was very easy to open the Shift and replace the HDD and RAM. The SSD connector is identical with the genuine HDD connector and the SSD size match perfectly the HDD size. I restored my old Windows 7 image to the new SSD using Acronis True Image Home which done the work as expected.
Everything goes fine but when my Windows 7 try to boot sometimes I get blue screen. Sometimes boot was completed but in 5-10 minutes I get again blue screens. The errors messages was different but when searching on Google all were reffered to RAM. I also read here an article with the same issue for some users after upgrading to 2GB RAM so I restored my 1GB RAM and the "blue screen" issue was gone. I contacted the seller of the RAM and I will send it back tomorrow to get an replacement item.
HTC Shift support 2GB RAM and the memory was compatible and new item but seems that some items arrive defective from factory but an replacement will fix that issue.
Anyway the GMonster PhotoFast 1.8 ZIF V4 128GB is the fastest on the market as the read/sec speed is 120MB/sec and the write/sec speed is the 90MB/sec comparing with the original HTC Shift HDD which have about 20MB/sec read speed and 15MB/sec write speed. This also come with 64MB RAM inside and Built-in Garbage Collection which make it really faster and stable. GMonster is an Japan company with it's factory in Taiwan and they seems to be a great name on SSD.
Even with 1GB RAM installed my boot time speed was reduced dramatically and everything is faster as before. My battery life increased with about 30 min as those GMoster SSD's are low energy level optimized. Now the fan don't run at maximum speed anymore. Is like I own a new device so even if I spent about 600$ for this SSD believe me that is really a great difference.
Now I expect my RAM replacement so I can start using the maximum performance with my HTC Shift.
Best Regards!
Remember that when you use SSD, you need to optimize your Windows for SSD as there are some tehnologies created to make old HDD faster but those will end by shorting your SSD life if not disabled.
1. Disable Defrag as SSD is faster enough to not need it.
2. Disable Prefetch (you need to edit registry).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prefetcher
3. Disable Superfetch service.
4. Disable ReadyBoost (from "Performance Monitor").
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18073901
Windows 7 should disable by default all those things but the issue come that Windows 7 is not yet able to detect all SSD so if will not know that the hardware installed is an SSD then will keep them active.

Great guide deprotector!
this will be very useful.
What is real tranfer rate of this sdd? Can y benchmak it? I think, that zif has same transfer as ide and it has max 60MB/s. it will kill performance.
can you give guidance in step by step how to upgrade ssd & ram ?

AnyAny luck with the ram replacement? I had the same issue and decided to go through the reimbursement instead of the replacement option... I haven{t seem anyone yet confirm the the new memory module actually works without flaws...
Great news for a breat device. Great price too though
There is a small and very useful application for Windows 7, regarding SSD tweaks. Find it here:

Cheers.
now is 99$,2g ddr in ebay.
but expensive yet.
the ssd is lowest in www.taobao.com
maybe worth update it.

hi
one more for future info updates:fingers-crossed:
There aren't alot of Lumia devices their own thread nor, let alone their own listing in the device section. I was hoping that the Lumia 928 was going to get added, but sadly it might not happen.
Anyone tried gdr3 for 625???

Is where maybe already a custom rom for Nokia 625?
Um... haha no. I mean, it'd be cool, but there are hardly *any* WP8 custom ROMs. Lumias (and most other WP8 devices) are locked down much too tightly.
Unlock code for lumia 625
DOES Anyone know if there is the unlock tool out for the Lumia 625 please? i am desperate for it.
thanks

EVERY LUMIA USER IS DYING TO HAVE ANY KIND OF UNLOCK.
and yes, all caps necessitates me yelling at my phone seeing this comment for the trillionth time.

I *think* the OP is actually asking for a SIM unlock (but doesn't know enough to know that there are many kinds of unlock, apparently...).
Good news
Hey guys, I gotta good news!
I bought a lumia 625 in the last year in December, but until now , I got stuck with WP8 unforunately. I was really interested in Windows Phone platform, but hard restrictions makes me feel like I have a nearly strong, but an absolute useless mobile. I like to gain the best of all the features whitch comes whit my device, but in this way, Nokia is still two steps behind from the other manufacturers of the market. I follow day by day the infos of the Android project Nokia X, so I've decided to check my bootloader somehow, to test the possibilities if in the future can be able to port a CFW into the phone.
-Turned the phone off,
-Pressed the Volume Up button and kept holding it
-Connected a USB cable to the PC
- And voila, A NEW UNLOCKED QUALCOMM DEVICE WAS RECOGNISED BY OS (instead of Nokia DLOAD)
Try it now

Ähm.... what exactly are you trying?
And what do you want?
Do you want an unlocked bootloader?
Or do you want SIM-Unlock?
If you connect your device and it shows "qualcomm device", does windows ask you to format your drive? (if it does, do NOT format, press cancel!! as in old Lumia 800 days)

I'm just having a trial of if I have an unlocked bootloader or not. I do not want to unlock the sim-lock, but if it possible, I would change the firmware to another (get started trying to port android somehow). I know, that there's a large scale of Android running smartphones nowadays, but lumia devices have uniq beautiful design, and well quality of hardwer. So if there's a potencial chance of success, why not?
SORRY guys i was a little basic on the 1st post, what i want to do is use another network on the phone, its locked to one company and i want to use another companies sim, is this possible without having to pay for it pls?
Sorry about that

I highly doubt that happens. If you hold the volume up button during boot, you'll put the phone into some sort of mode (forgot the exact name), but the OS won't recognize it as a mass storage device. If anything, you'd get a QUALCOMM MSM DEVICE or something like that, which isn't of much use either. And if you connect the phone during normal boot procedure, you'll probably get a NOKIA BOOTMGR for a couple of seconds before the OS finishes booting and the MTP kicks in.
This isn't WP7. Production WP8 Nokias are all protected by SecureBoot and a whole bunch of other stuff, so you can give up your hopes of a factory unlocked bootloader.
Hi, I experience something that I consider a very strange problem.
I recently bought a Mi 9 and discovered that its USB-typeC is only USB 2.0. This is rather disappointing, but USB 2.0 should still give 480 mbit/s = 60 MB/s transfer speed.
However, the real USB file transfer speed from PC to the phone is only 27 MB/s.
I've tried everything - MTP/PTP, adb, running FTP server on the phone through "usb modem" network.
I even setup Linux hostapd on my laptop which has 802.11ac with an Atheros chip, connected the phone to that network and got 780 mbit/s theoretical speed.
Then I started an FTP server and retested: still 27 (maybe 28-29) MB/s to the phone. At the same time, it reached the speed of 65 MB/s (=520 mbit/s) when copying a file FROM the phone to the PC.
Then I even launched Terminal emulator and started a download from the PC to the phone with `curl`. And guess what, I still got 27-30 MB/s. Even when it's downloading the file to /dev/null instead of the phone's flash memory - it still gives 27-30 MB/s.
Then I launched THREE curl's at the same time. Three of them gave me 30+30+20 MB/s = 80 MB/s = 640 mbit/s which means that my 802.11ac worked correctly.
So my question is: what is that fixed limit of 30 MB/s per process?
And what file transfer speeds do you get with your Mi9's?

im not so technical with specs of write/read speeds but, at least i can say the same, mine to transfer around 6GB takes about 30 to 40 minuts so, i guess is around 25 to 30 mb/s, USB 2.0 on a phone this good is the only downside to have a phone without microSD slot to compensate the slow USB 2.0 speed, or worse than that.

It's worse. 6000MB/(30*60) = 3 MB/s...
With 27MB/s it should take ~4 minutes to copy a 6 GB file...
And it should be even more, most usb 2.0 sata enclosures max out at 50-60 MB/s...

and i am talking about 6GB of more than 1300 pictures with ~3 to 5mb each so, probably will take more cause is not a single file.
i dont know wich method you use but i connect my phone and select MTP not PTP.
evenm its so damn slow, i regret the speed i can go with my G6 wich have usb 3.1 and thats was amazing quickly compared to Mi9.
i dont know why Xiaomi dont implement usb 3.1 on their high end models, they can make it, and even if we need to pay 10 to 20 bucks more is way way better than waste a lot of time copying files into it. - since they didnt provide microSD eighter.
My redmi note 9 also slow transfer speed but it solved now, on PC I compress all the files, transfer compressed file to the phone the extract it on the phone.

That is the THEORETICAL MAXIMUM that USB 2.0 can achieve. In practice, NO USB 2.0 drives, I repeat, NO USB 2.0 drives ever reach that speed. The fastest one reaches only 42MBps sequential write speed and is an externally powered hard drive, while the fastest flash drive only reaches 25MBps sequential write speed (data taken from usb.userbenchmark.com, so it's sourced from multiple real world users instead of a controlled lab environment). Your 27MBps then is already a good one.
