X back wood question - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello sorry if this has been asked before but I am on mobile and the XDA app crashes when trying to search.
I have a Nexus 4 and am debating between the 6 and X. My question is, is the back wood option actually wood or just a plastic wood textured veneer(sp?)?
If the 6 would be customizable through moto maker it would be no contest but a wood back option is just the bees knees.
Thanks in advance.

The bamboo is real bamboo. The other woods are stained finishes (I believe I read they are bamboo as well) but are still wood.

Who has what case to protect your X?

I've tried to find reviews for the pro case that motorola is offering, but I haven't had any luck.
Any ideas as to what is the best option out there for our phone while keeping the good looks?

I haven't gotten it yet, but I've been a Diztronic fan for a few years (and a few phones) now. TPU just gives it a little extra distance between the face-down screen and the tile when I accidentally drop it.
Incipio dualpro shine case looks super slick on it got it off amazon and it looks amazing

Could you post a picture? When I buy the developer edition I plan on buying the dualpro matte/grippy case.

I have the diztronic, the tudia melody (POS) and the griffin reveal. I only use a case while working. The griffin is easily my favorite, but the diztronic is very nice for a TPU case. Stay away from the tudia.
Any of those cases attract lint from pockets?
Sent from my XT1060 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Neither the diztronic or the reveal collect lint. Wouldn't know about the tudia because it was only on my phone for 3 seconds before I vowed to never use it gain.
Well, whatever the case I'm getting something. Thank God motorola screwed up and sent me two phones and I was honest and sent one back, because I dropped mine and cracked the screen.! out of courtesy motorola is replacing mine free of charge so the new one will be in a case regardless.

Yep, just got my shipping notice too!
I ended up with Cimo Motorola Moto X Back Case Flexible TPU Cover since I went with a black back. I picked it up on Amazon. I went with black, but it also comes in blue, red, clear, pink, purple, and white. The only complaint I have about it is there is no holes for the power and volume so it hides the customized buttons. Instead the buttons are part of the case. My solution was to just cut the holes. If done right you can't even tell.
I got the snap case from Motorola because I saw the review videos and it looked nice. I got it in the smoked clear color. 3 problems. 1st is price. $30 is a lot for what you are getting here. Not a whole lot of protection but enough for peace of mind. 2nd is that whatever coating they put on this thing is slippery as hell and it hasn't been mentioned in any of the reviews I've seen so far. It actually makes it uncomfortable to use one handed because you have to grip it so tightly. 3rd is that when I normally hold a phone one handed I put my pinkie under the bottom to stabilize the phone. On this case there are sharp edges where it opens up around the charging port right where I would normally put my pinkie. For something this much I would've expected little things like this to have been taken into account. It does fit the phone really well and doesn't add a whole lot of bulk which is what I was looking for.

I actually use the pro shell case from Motorola, it's been pretty good so far. Feels good in hand and the rubberized edge covers the entire edge of the phone. The phone fits nicely in the case and it doesn't add any bulk to it. I'd suggest it over the snap case that they are offering on their site.
i bought http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DMOV802/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and i love it. it has a kickstand which is the main reason for buying it. it offers easy of use. you can take it off and on easily and the rubber case isnt the sticky rubber that seems to pull your pocket out everytime you take your phone out.

It's ugly, feels bulky compared to the Diztronic TPU case, and just has a very cheap feel to it. I only ordered it because it looks like the Incipio Frequency case that I had for my iPhone (it's a blatant ripoff) but it is nowhere near the quality. If you are looking for a decent TPU case, the Diztronic is the way to go.

I bought the dizronic before the X was available, love it but it doesn't play nice with the skinomi I have on. Thanks for helping me keep my pile of unused cases from getting any bigger.

That's what I'm here for. Anyone who knows me here knows I have a problem with cases. I already have 5 for the Moto X, and I have a few more on order. The funny thing is, I really don't like using a case with this phone so I have no idea what drives me to keep buying them haha. I had 30+ for my iPhone, about the same for my One X, maybe 25 for my HTC One.... yeah. haha
If you want to get a really good case, help me pester Urban Armor Gear into making one for us. Best case on the market, hands down. Post on their FB wall about making a case for the Moto X. https://www.facebook.com/UrbanArmorGear
Has anyone who has gotten a case noticed a change/muffling in the rattling sound that seems to occur when the phone vibrates? I'd be interested in knowing if having a case on it somehow minimizes the sound in anyway.

[Q] Which are soft touch / rubber backs?

It seems like there are mixed info on this,
but for those of you who already received new moto, if your back cover is soft touch (rubber/non-slip feel like Nexus5 or 1st Gen black MotoX)
what color is it?
I think black is confirmed to be soft touch, but I'm looking at other options.
My current black leather one is kinda slippery, and it's going back to Motorola because of some defects.
Please no "I heard / I think / I guess" posts. ONLY if you HELD it in your hands, thanks.
Not sure if this is any help, but the leather backs are soft-touch and non-slip. If you're just wanting the plastic backs, I'm not sure.

I have one with black leather back, and I wouldn't say it's a non-slip, feels more slippery than "real" soft touch non-slip.
Have you held black Nexus 5 or 1st gen black woven Moto X ? That's the type of non-slip back I'm talking about.
I got the royal blue and it's just regular plastic
I can confirm that the standard (non Moto) black back is soft touch and not slippery.

My bad. I meant "non MotoMaker". i.e. what Verizon stocks in the stores.
Agree

And, FWIW, the "stock" retail (non Moto Maker) black back is easy to grip. Not slippery at all.

Got it, thanks.
I wish there was also an option for "sand black" back like the black OnePlus has. That one is the best grip I've tried.
I've had a cover like that for my old moto x to cover ugly slippery white (VZW developer edition), but now I wanna keep it naked.
The old otter box impact was the grippiest case ever.
The Defender was the best I could find.
Here are some mods to perform including an easy holster to car kit conversion using any moto base.

Olive is not soft touch
I bought the Olive colored back assuming it would be soft touch because the 2013 moto x in olive was. But the 2014 is not soft touch. Too bad they don't have all the back in store like they did for moto x 2013. I really wish I knew which backs are soft touch.
Over on the Motorola boards, they have said ONLY black is soft touch. Unlike the 1st gen, no other colours are.

[Q] Would you buy a bumper case for your Droid Turbo?

Myself along with several others on XDA and other forums would really like a simple bumper case for the Droid Turbo. I'm hopeful that if we get enough of us together that are committed to purchasing that we might be able to persuade Cruzerlite to manufacture such a case for us. If this is something you want and are serious about purchasing please show your support by casting your vote on this thread, and I will do what I can raise awareness with Cruzerlite as I know they have made special edition XDA cases in the past.
The phone itself is built solid, so I'm just in search of something that will protect the edges of the device (including the buttons), create a small ridge to keep contact off the glass when laying face down, and keep contact off the camera when laying face up all while keeping the unique colors and textures of the Droid Turbo exposed on the back without adding much bulk or weight to the device.

I've bought this. I've dropped my phone a few times already I just wished the rubber was a little thicker. But it's protected my phone so far from those drops.
Motorola Droid Turbo / XT1254 (Fits Ballistic Nylon Version), COVRW... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QLV2SDY/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_NIQVub1QGF8RR
I have a full case right now (Cruzerlite bugdroid TPU). I would like a bumper case that is just a protective "ring" around the edges of the device that would let the ballistic nylon on the back exposed.
i really want a bumper made for Droid o Maxx.
but needs to be done right and to put the beauty of this device in evidence
Agreed. Thanks for your vote.
Had a bumper for the maxx and my daughter has a perfect bumper for her 2014 X. Why not the Turbo?
Yes! This is exactly what I'm looking for. I hate having a case on my phones but I learned with my last phone that the corners get dented and trashed too easily when dropped, no matter how much Ghost Armor you have on it.
That's all I want too. I like the feel of the nylon and after using cases for years I don't want to go back. Even better would be a bumper with a kick stand and support line going across the back but everything else exposed.

Another yes vote here. Got my Moto Maxx yesterday and am using it naked as the cases I have make the phone too bulky (for me) but I'm worried about the bezel getting scratched, marked or chipped.
Thanks for the YES votes!
Thank you for the YES votes we have so far. Please share this with all your Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx wielding friends that also want an awesome minimalist case to keep the best physical attributes of this device visible and tactile.
i would love a bumper case like the case-mate hula for the Moto X. Don't have high hopes though
Turbo here, would like to have the option.

I would buy an affordable, minimal bumper case the first chance I got.
Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
I'd buy several.
Resounding yes
I would definitely buy a bumper case. I just need it to cover up the corners I've already dinged from when I dropped my phone
The Turbo/Maxx is already on the thick side as far as high end phones go- I really want a case that adds little to no thickness.
I would most certainly buy a bumper case. I'm okay with added bulk on the top/bottom and sides, as long as the phone itself doesn't increase it's width.
I would love to have a bumper case for my turbo.
I crudely cut up a Tudia case into a bumper. It was meant for the non-nylon version so it didn't fit anyway.
It gets the job done but I would much rather have a legitimate and better made bumper.
(not sure why the photo is sideways)
Please, send an email to [email protected] and asks for a moto droid turbo/ maxx bumper... they need 1000 orders to produce them. Here is a video of their bumper for iphone https://www.yahoo.com/tech/the-rhinoshield-bumper-and-the-iphone-i-could-not-111444363399.html
I sent them an email, I hope others do the same.

[Q] Bumper from China

Hey has anyone bought or received this yet? It looks like the same as the Hula case for my Moto X 2014, which I absolutely love. Do you think it will work with a leather back G4?
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-...G-G4-F500-H810-free-shipping/32355641768.html
I've been eyeing that one too, along with the Hippocampal-Buckle-Metal-Bumper-Frame-for-LG-G4-H815-Black-14030002A. You'll have to google it because i'm too new for posting links.
The hippocampal one looks very simple and basically like scratch protection. And the little white tpu padding looks like they just pushed it in the frame
My only concern with the one you posted is that it'll push down tightly on the leather and if you leave it on for a couple weeks it'll deform or stretch the leather so it won't bounce back.
Secretcow can you PLEASE check your messages been trying to ask you a question for a few days thanka

Wooden cases

Hi. Are there any wooden or partly wooden cases (not skins) for Nexus 5X?
No, the case would burn down
why you saying bull**** like this?
yes,they are. ebay,google... bamboo mostly
http://www.ebay.com/itm/RoseFlower-...560236?hash=item3ad5e3826c:g:rCEAAOSw2xRYYDJr
I can't imagine why you'd want to stick your phone in a highly flammable box...but if wood is what you want, check out Toast. Yes, it's a skin of sorts, but I had one for about 6 months and it worked wonderfully. Never had any issues with it. And it smells like real wood (because it is)!
I've seen some on Amazon.

I got it from Ebay tho they are fine tho
