Good evening guys,
I tried to backup my diary entries using Titanium Backup, but when I tried to restore them on the new Firmware they didn't appear. Same for my SMS Messages...
Could you tell what exactly I have to backup?
Thank you for your help!
Backup Methods Before Flashing?
I've been using MyBackupPro, but it does not save any of my settings. I have to set up a lot of stuff like email accounts and so on every time I flash.
Is there a better way?
Have you tried titanium backup? I find it works best.

No I haven't yet. I read reviews of MyBackupPro, saying it's the best So I bought it.
Does Titanium Backup save preferences, including passwords and email settings?

Hey,
I believe it does, it saves all of my preferences with games like Alsphalt so it should do the same with your e-mail.
Try it, it's free.

I hope someone is, that would be best option, titanium is brilliant though and has saved me a few times, I have it scheduled to backup everynight.
I also use Mybackup pro for sms and call logs etc.
neither can bring your homescreen widgets back as before.
Is there anything that saves your facebook/google links in contacts? That's the thing I find most annoying having to go back through them one by one...
Titanium backup in its current form is not functioning correctly on my phone aswell as many other galaxys users
yes - unfortunately Titanium Backup currently won't backup the databases :-(
Best backup app for galaxy?
Is there anything out there which will backup our apps, contacts etc before I flash a new rom to my phone? Is it possible in kies? I'm loath to have to link my face book and google mail contacts again
Backup apps/settings to PC? possible?
Hi all, i have seen many threads regarding backup apps such as wave/titanium pro etc but im wondering if its possible to backup to a PC?
as much as its a naughty word, i liked apples way of backing up using itunes. you simply plugged in your phone and voila its backing up into a friendly restorable format.
i just want a simple backup of my device encase i flash to others roms.
is this possible?
i don't know of such application.
but what is so bad about backing it up to the External SD card?
you want your backup to be with you all the time, so in case of "OMG! happens", you can easily Hard Reset, then restore from backup from the SD card.
once on the SD card, you can easily copy it over to your PC, the next time you hookup your USB cable.
if you want it done automatically, you can always create a script on your PC to grab X files from X folder every time the USB connects to X device
I love the backup software from PalmOS, they works automatically just as you wanted.
I never found a good one that actually works on WinMobile
in Android it's almost perfect, it just missing the part to sync the backups to the desktop automatically.
But that's a minor thing, as you can do the batch command mentioned above.
you can try this one for size, see if you like it.

Nandroid v2.0 - Full NAND backup and restore tool
else you can go for PAID applications such as... Titanium Backup and many other ones
never thought of it like that.
as for backup apps which one is proving decent? i see alot about wave and titanium backup.
Yeah... Titanium Back-up is great. You can even try MyBackup Pro. Both are equally good.
MyBackup Pro restores all the apps perfectly but is not able to link those to the Android Market...
what do you guys use to backup all your data before changing firmware
I already flashed my girlfriend's galaxy S twice
and each time i was installing and configuring the device as she want...
Once again there is a new firmware that correct some interesting part (GPS)
but i REALLY don't want to loose 2 hours of my time to
a: install the apps my gf has
b: configure the device (font, ring tone, volume ...)
so question : what are you using to save the time of installing/configurating...
thanks in advance
I'm also interested to know how you make it.. Thanks

Been using Titanium Backup (donated ver.), so far so good.
anyone know how to fix this problem? i installed the program from website directly
I have whatsapp installed and all works perfect. Install it on a phone with a different sim to your usual one (as you can't run it on 2 devices with the same number) make a titanium backup of it and then copy the backup to the tab and run the back up.

Trying to restore titanium backup of downloaded apps and settings from another device. Apps restore properly but none of the settings do (game scores, etc.)
I have never had a problem restoring to other devices. Is there anything I have to do to fix this?
Dmore rom, semaphore kernel
Had the same problem at one point, tried fixing it but didn't know what to do and nothing seemed to make any difference. And then suddenly one day it was working again.
The only difference i can think of is I updated titanium backup. try that.
If that doesn't work try uninstalling it and reinstalling it (copy the titanium backup folder on your sd card onto your computer just in case it gets deleted, don't think it should.)
Other than that google the problem (Titanium backup wont restore apps - google search), there are ton of similar situations, there's probably an answer out there already that'll work for you

I'm on version 5 so that should be fine. and thanks for the link, although I did not find why data is not being restored.
Strange thing is that data from ONE app was restored but not others. After seeing that I remade the backup but the same thing happened. I wonder if its where the i9000 stores the data of backups is the issue
No other ideas? No one has had this happen?
I've been looking for a solution for two nights, this hasn't happened to anyone?

Go into options of titanium and make sure you have backup external data to always. I run a restore this morning because I was switching ROMs and everything worked fine.

Restore manually. When you go to the folder with all the backups, there should be a bunch of .tar and other files. Just install the apks on the other phone and manually restore the data in the .tars

I see the tars, and in each tar there is a data folder, another data folder inside, and then the .com folders. what do i restore and where do I put it?
for example, in the AKnotepad .com folder there are these folders:
app_sslcache
databases
shared_prefs
some apps also have a files folder inside the .com
I can just place them using ES file browser with root browsing method on the phone, just am not sure where.
When O had a look into my backups, that had data folders in them. Go on your old phone and see where the files in data folders go. Most go to /data/data. I recommend Root Explorer.

Hi folks,
I've done a fair bit of searching and although it has been briefly discussed before I can't see any recent mentions about Helium (aka Carbon) from clockworkmod (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup&hl=en).
The Google Play store page for the app mentions that the app doesn't work on the Xperia S and Z due to some changes Sony made, however when I first got my Xperia Z (at launch in the UK), I was able to backup app data (and some apks) from my Galaxy S3 and restore them onto the Xperia Z without any issues.
Given there have been a few software updates from Sony since launch, does anyone have any recent experience with Helium, specifically whether it works correctly to backup and restore to the Xperia Z? I couldn't find a suitable thread or forum to try to ask the developer directly what the specific issues were with the Xperia S and Z that led to the warning on the app page.
I had a problem restoring Apps with this app after full factory reset. It always crashed. Tried to restore from SD card and CLOUD. on my galaxy s3 it works fine. The build in sony's backup and restore app is doing great.

Thanks for the reply. What does the Sony app actually backup? Does it include some/all apks and the actual app data too (e.g game progress)?
Yes, it includ app+data, even clock alarms

I decided to unlock and root my phone. So I did some backups with mybackup pro and decided to give a try to helium (because I never managed to restore the data of the apps with mybackup pro, just with root). I did the backup, saved it on the internal storage, copied it on my computer, unlocked my phone, rooted it, installed helium, copied the backup to the internal storage and... when i try to restore the backup from the internal storage it doesn't find it... I am now trying to reinstall it, don't give it su and see if I see the backup... if I don't see it... well.. idk what to say... I do a backup and then I cannot restore it? nice (sarcastic)
Edit: no.. I cannot find the backup

If you're still interested.. (if u want the app data. i.e : savegames) I found a way.. Just keep those backup files in your computer. And then download the apps you want to restore.. Then make backups of them again.. Then they will have those backup up files in the "Carbon" folder. Then copy the folders inside without the "nomedia" file. It then the app will show the backup & viola... Apps restored...

Is there something weird about the way messages are stored in general? Everything else seemed to work - the one thing I can't seem to figure out is how to restore text messages (com.android.providers.telephony.ab) - I've tried to do it as a whole app using the PC interface, tried copying the folder as a replacement via Android File Transfer to the 'carbon' folder, etc.
When I try to restore via helium server, it quickly shows me everything as restored but I don't see the messages. When I try to do it manually (e.g. force copy), I don't see an option under "Restore and Sync" to actually select messaging.
Am I missing something stupid / obvious? The raw data seems to be there (for example, call logs were uploaded just fine, text messages seem to have an issue).

So I came up with a solution based on what works for others. Why this works when it didn't previously is beyond me, but hopefully someone else can use it if individual parts of their Helium backup don't work properly (in theory it should work for any app / SQL dataset). The whole point of Helium is that we're running non-rooted phones and so Titanium Backup or the like aren't applicable. For reference, I'm running an N4 to OSX 10.7.x
1. Use the Helium Server to create a full backup.
2. Wipe phone or whatever you need to do (I had to do a factory reset for Google since it's an N4 and my proximity sensor is dead).
3. Install the apps you had previously via Play Store (pain in the a**).
4. Run Helium server and upload the backup data.
5. Update apps as needed (should be auto but who knows for individual stuff).
6. Check app data in apps. Texts are obviously easy to see for me. Hopefully everything restored nicely for you here.
***Now for the bit for people who got corrupted restores.
7. Unzip the backup file on your computer, select the .ab files that correspond to the missing / corrupted restores and then zip those into a new file on your computer (for step 9). Keep these files handy in unzipped form as well for step 10.
8. Perform a new Helium backup of those sections onto the internal SD card (yes it will be blank, worry not).
9. (Optional step): Run Helium server and upload that new zip file (with the stuff that didn't make it) alone. Try restore. Unlikely to work but worth a shot.
10. Running Android File Transfer, find the SD card, find the folder 'carbon' and then find the corresponding sub-folders that have the modules that were corrupted. Replace the SD card backups of the broken modules with the good ones from your computer.
11. Run Helium restore again, but only for the sections you want (I swear, for me Messaging didn't show up the first few times but after step 10 it did).
12. Wait, hoepfully it works well. I would reboot after running the restore to a) kill Helium and b) confirm functionality.
FWIW, my telephony.ab was 1.8MB and took SIX hours to restore. Seriously. Yeah yeah, that's a lot of texts but six hours? I've since added "SMS Backup & Restore" to my phone and will probably just use that, map out my phone layout and functionality and just manually replace apps from now on since most data is in the cloud. You lose some stuff, but prima facie it's boat tons easier.
Hopefully that helps someone else who had the same issues.

Somehow my phone got soft factory reset (lost all the apps but the files) when i tried to install the apps that I had before it throws a play store error while installing saying it couldnt be installed because of an unkown error "-24" plz helpp
Why are you mocking Koush? Yes the Koush. He made this app. He specifically said in the app description that:
Note: Helium is NOT available to Motorola devices. This is because Motorola phones have a bug that break Android's backup mechanism. Until this is fixed by Motorola, Helium will not work on those Androids. You can download Helium manually here:
http://download.clockworkmod.com/apks/Backup.apk
If you find that Helium *does* work on your Motorola Android, please notify me.
Note: Some Sony devices have issues with Helium. This includes the Xperia S and Xperia Z. Sony has *disabled* backup on these devices completely.

Hi
I've installed [Team Canjica] CM11 ROM yesterday, and it works very well.
However, after installing Whatsapp, Whatsapp displays a message about it being a custom ROM and therefore not fully supported.
It then attempts to restore the chat history and after some lengthy processing, says it couldn't restore the history.
Otherwise Whatsapp works normally and is able to send and receive messages.
I am very interested in restoring my chat history, and unsuccessfully tried the methods suggested on Whatsapp's support website, as well as by their support email.
Can anyone help me, please?

I am not 100% sure, but messages should be somewhere in Whatsapp folder on internal or external SD card. See if you did not delete it. You tried to restore them in the past on some other ROM?

Chat history files are indeed there on my storage on /Whatsapp/databases, and although whatsapp finds them and attempts restoring them, it repeatedly fails to restore them.
I have tried removing and re-installing whatsapp several times, even with older backup files too, unsuccessfully :crying:
Any suggestions?

Not sure. Try to transfer that folder to other storage (on external if it is on internal now). If that does not help try with other ROM and see what happens. I used CM11 and I have restored Whatsapp chats without problem as I remember.

[Partially SOLVED]: WhatsApp+ restored my chat history
Hi all.
I have installed WhatsApp+ (I am not sure but I think it is currently in Hebrew only).
It needs installing from the SD card, and is not available in PLAY store
WhatsApp+ restored my chat history.
Having my chat history "back" I removed WhatsApp+ and installed WhatsApp (original) again, but it again failed in restoring my chat history, so I re-installed WhatsApp+ and will use it for now.
If anyone needs help with the Hebrew on WhatsApp+'s site I will gladly help.
Good Luck!
Maybe there is an option in whatsapp+ to do a backup, and later to do manual restore in org app

You're right, there is - the same as in WhatsApp.
It produced the same failure to restore in WhatsApp, although whatsapp+ successfully restored.
Until I find another option to restore I'll stick with the WhatsApp+ for the time being.
Optionally I may send myself selected chats by mail, like in WhatsApp.
@ArcSer
Just keep Whatsapp+, no?
I use it too from the last year and it's way better than original one.

This thread is old, but my experience maybe can help someone
I had the same problem, because I swapped between LineageOS derivated ROMs for tests (but not on Galaxy S Advance I9070).
I backupped key file from /data/data/com.whatsapp/files and wa.db from /data/data/com.whatsapp/databases.
For the first test, I followed this advices from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/whatsapp-whatsapp-offer-backup-restore-t3342014:
Prerequisites:
1) Whatsapp Viewer (Links are forbidden for new users, you will find it at Github)
2) msgstore.db.cryptX from a backup (the "X" from msgstore.db.cryptX stays for the version of message database encryption)
3) key file from /data/data/com.whatsapp/files from a backup
4) Whatsapp must not have been started before
5) Phone number / SIM of backup and restore phone must be identical
6) Wifi connection for verification process
Procedure:
1) Install Whatsapp, but do not start it
2) Extract msgstore.db from msgstore.db.cryptX with the help of Whatsapp Viewer (the "X" from msgstore.db.cryptX stays for the version of message database encryption)
3) Copy msgstore.db to /storage/emulated/0/Whatsapp/Databases
4) Start Whatsapp and hit "Restore" when it's offered
5) Wait for "Initialisation" to finish. It took about 3 minutes in my case. So be patient.
6) Enter Name and assign a profile picture, hit next
7) Finish!
but nothing. I uninstalled Whatsapp.
For the second test, I installed Whatsapp again, left (only) msgstore.db in /storage/emulated/0/Whatsapp/Databases and copied key and wa.db files into their folders, overwriting the original files. Whatsapp crashed and I uninstalled Whatsapp again.
For a third test, I installed Whatsapp again (all untouched after second test), but maybe the key file automatic overwritten during the app initialization, because now Whatsapp working and it restored successfully chat history!!
After these tests, I think that the only files to leave/overwrite are: wa.db in /data/data/com.whatsapp/databases and maybe decrypted msgstore.db in /storage/emulated/0/Whatsapp/Databases (but I think that also encrypted one should work).
Hy,
Just want to give my impression about using Whatsapp+ or GB Whatsapp or other 3rd party Whatsapp App, dont forget that Whataspp can BAN your number if they find you're using any other program instead of the original APP, it happened to a friend of mine so be careful not to use those fancy things that the original App doesnt have, even more, we all still don't knowhow safe is our data while passing through this 3rd party Apps, they look good and have nice features but it may have a high cost.
BR
I had same problem because install LineageOS on galaxy a7 2017,
but I have done these stuff and my whatsapp has worked corroctly:
0- install simulator android and install whatsapp and sign your number then restore your chats then go to internalStorage>whatsapp
1-cory backups and databases folders to safe place
2-go to Internad Storage>Android>data>com.whatsapp then copy cash folder to safe place
3-install whatsapp on your phone and not login.
4-go to setting > permission and allow whatsapp access to storage,camera,mic,...
5-copy all of files databases, chash, backups to your phone with same directories( databeses and backups copy to >> internalstorage>whatsapp and chash copy to internalstorage>android>data>.com.whatsapp)
6-now sign in your whatsapp
7-Enjoy it.
