[Q] Music streaming not working anymore on 3G - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I really hope you can help me with this.
I usually listen to music using Spotify / Soundcloud and other music streaming apps. Until a week ago everything was fine.
Now, it's already 5 days I can't listen to music on these apps, everything's running fine but when I press play it seems it loads really slow, I can't even see the cover arts. It's like downloading at a really low speed, such as EDGE, but I'm 100% on 3G.
It's not something related with my operator neither with an app in particular, because the strange thing is internet works very smoothly in other apps, it's only happening when streaming on cellular data. Of course the same happens with video streaming using Twitch, Netflix and so on...
I tried rebooting, disabling/re-enabling cellular data/wi-fi. I didn't try a phone reset, should i give it a try?
Thanks in advance.

My first suggestion would be:
1. Insert your sim in to your wife's/friends smartphone and check if the issue is appearing, just to make sure it is nothing to do with operators bandwidth limitation.
2. Insert your wife's/friends sim in to your phone and check the same, to make sure it is really your phones issue.
If it is your phones fault, the first option would be to clear cache of problematic apps. Secondary option - factory reset. Third option - reflash modem/baseband. Forth option - wait for lollipop and hope it will fix it.
Good luck.

It's not the operator. None of the people I know have issues with the same operator, and there are a lot around me.
I tried a reset, seems to be working better but still not working, it's a little bit faster but not in any helpful way.
How can I reflash the modem?

youtube freezes

I am having trouble with youtube on my xz. It suddenly starts buffering, but never continues. I have no problem playing 1080p videos from my nas, and I also have no problem using pop up YouTube player. It is not the network, YouTube runs fine on all other android and Symbian devices in the house. (one x, xcover2,808, Mini pro)
Anyone else experiencing this issue?

But I will try when I have the time. Thanks.
Try to delete cache of the youtube app.. Go to application, youtube, delete cache and restart phone. This helped for me.
Tried that now, after 19min the buffer fault came along again. happens from 2 min untill forever. Have to turn off and on HD and it might start. Anying when the phone is in my dock and I am in bed.

maybe network congestion?
Reset did not work, cannot be the network, I have a kick-ass router and 70mbit down. Besides all other phones work flawless on my network. Hope this is an issue that will be corrected either by Sony update or youtube update..
Try to delete the updates. If you go to apps, then all apps, you will see youtube. Just delete cache and everything else. I had the exact issue. And me too have a great internet connection (100mb) just try to delete stuff of the youtune app. A reset won't fix this problem. Hope i helped

Issues regarding YouTube

Okay so, to put it simply... I own an Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 which was rooted up until this day. At some time yesterday, YouTube randomly stopped having any connections to the internet.
At first, when you go to the application you can see videos, they load fine on the list as well as the names and thumbnails, but as soon as you click on them / search for videos / wait for 5 seconds you will get an error "Attention - There is no network connection right now. Please try again later."
I'm 100% positive that it's nothing with my net. Browser works fine, I don't use facebook so no idea if it works or not. I even stood right next to the router or modem, however you call it, with full signal and couldn't go to YouTube.
Now, I unrooted the phone. The issue is still there.
Restarting, pulling out battery, factory reset - Nothing worked.
I'm starting to go crazy with this.
No, youtube doesn't even work if I go the mobile site and try to run the video with the application.
No, it does not show up in "Manage applications" so I can't clear it.
Trust me I'd definetly want to go to Google Play and download a newer version, but considering Google says that Youtube isn't compatible with my device / or the actual INSTALL button on their page doesn't work on my phone.
Do help, I got nothing to do on the phone if there's no Youtube to watch videos or music.

The same thing happened to me yesterday with my Xperia x8 phone. I get the same message when I try to watch a youtube video. It was fine a couple of days ago!
If there's more people with the issue, I doubt it's a phone problem anymore. Youtube is most likely doing something then.. Either way, bump, in case someone knows how to fix this.
You might be right... Maybe they did some kind of update that caused this. Anyway, if I find a solution, I will post it here.
Try upgrading to froyo or gingerbread. It works fine on gingerbread.
I can't. My phone model is too high so I can't install 2.2 or higher.
I've been having this issue as well. There isn't anything wrong my connection, as I can load all the pages >.< I just wish someone had a solution. All I've found to do is clear the app data and that's done nothing...

You can (2.2-2.3). there are roms for locked bootloaders. You can consider that and see if it helps.
Also, update youtube if possible.

I can't. I don't recall finding one for 11W48.
You can't update Youtube further on Android 2.1 (aka above 2.20.16)

[Q] Can not stream apps over wifi at home

i have searched and read and searched some more and can not come up with anything.
here is my issue, i have a s4a, i have comcast modem with a netgear router, i have streamed pandora on this setup for at least a year or more, occasionally netflix and of course some youtube videos. a few weeks ago i signed up for hulu plus, got a chromecast and went to streaming video from my phone. i watched several shows through the chromcast from my phone as well as a movie on HBOgo. last week sometime something has happened and i can no longer stream anything on my phone, hulu, netflix, hbo, pandora, none of these work, i downloaded cartoon network and it works fine. if i disconnect from my wireless network i can stream all of them, as soon as i connect to wifi "unfortunatly (app) has stopped". i have reset my modem, router, wiped my phone, updated my phone to 4.3, re wiped the phone, and still nothing, as of this moment the only app that i have downloaded on my phone is pandora, and i can not stream when connected to wifi...
if i go anywhere else and connect to their wifi everything works fine... why did my phone all of a sudden stop streaming on my network only?
my wifes iphone works fine with all of the above and connected to the chromecast
any help would be great as i am ready to smash this phone

Nothing comes to mind that wouldn't have been solved by everything you've already done... Maybe you will have to buy a new modem?
Just another random thing that might work... try adding a different Google account to your S4A and downloading the streaming apps through that Google account and see if that solves the issue. I believe that specific Google accounts can be limited by developer's based on an auth code that I think is associated with your Google account. Idk why you might be limited, and it seems extremely coincidental that you would be limited by several different developers/provides at the same time, unless Google is for some reason responsible. Please note that I know little about this particular thing so it's a complete stab in the dark but it just might work.
not sure how or why this worked, but maybe it will help someone in the future.
i decided to scan my available wireless networks in range from my phone again.... (not because i was going to mooch from a neighbor ) and noticed that my neighbor had a network labeled "lastname" and "lastname guest".
that got me thinking and reading about my router, i found out that i could set up a "guest" network as well, set it up, connected my phone and only my phone and everything works again, i have no idea why or what happened but it works for now

[Q] Having an issue with data speed with HTC One (M7) and Straightalk

For many months now I have had an issue with the data speed or lack of on my phone, it is there but the only thing that really works are programs that do not have timeout settings setup it seems such as syncing etc.... but things like a web browser will simply not load a page nor can I use speedtest to test the speed as it cannot even locate a site to test with.
Let me step back a bit, I got a HTC One(M7) after having a htc one X and used the same sim card. I found out that I could get LTE data if I updated my sim card, so I did that and at the time I had about a 18mb connection speed and was quite happy. A few months later I started getting the symptoms I explained above and have not disappeared. I have called many times to the customer support and they would reset something on their end and it would work temporarily but would go back quickly and by work I mean I would get like 3mb down instead of like .1.
On my latest call, the rep said, it seems to be down to 2 things, your phone or sim card so they sent me a new sim card, it is now installed and well, the same thing is happening, yeah!
In the past I have tried a different rom to see if that was it and that did not seem to resolve it either.
I am currently running
Viper 7.0.2, everything stock
has anyone experienced this or have any suggestions on what to try? I am close to throwing the phone in the ocean
A couple of weird things to note that seems to point this to the phones problem is that some things work ok like pandora could stream, it may take a while to buffer up, but it plays and things like the facebook will load the text, most times it takes some considerable time to load images but it is still working for the most part. Google maps works just fine and is able to pinpoint my location and many other things but Web browsing on the other hand simply doesn't load pages.
So it weird how it is selective in what will work and what won't for example, the FB chat works in loading text, images are slow to load and searching for images is really hit or miss, mainly miss.
Anyways ideas out there, maybe clear cache of something or what?

APN settings are correct and I would think if my APN settings were not correct, nothing would work.
Basically my symptoms are that a lot of programs that require a good amount of data do not work, ie Pandora takes minutes to maybe load a song, sometimes it can't connect and moves to another song and that one works. Netflix definitely will not work, hulu etc.... these apps simple try forever to connect and never do.
I tested the standard browser, tried to load a page.... nothing, cleared cache and history and immediately tried again and boom the page came up. Within seconds it was back to not loading.

Pixel 5 rebooting only with mobile data

Hi there,
in November last year I bought a brand new Google Pixel 5 and I gotta say that I'm quite happy with it, however there's been something quite annoying: sometimes it freezes and reboots itself when I'm using mobile data. I tried to figure out what was causing the issue and why it only happens when I'm using mobile data but I can't really find an answer. If I use WiFi, everything is fine, I can listen to the radio, watch videos on YouTube, have Teams calls, browse the web with Chrome etc, however if I try to do the very same things with mobile data in 4G (there's no 5G coverage in my area) it freezes and then reboots. It doesn't always happen, it seems to be happening randomly and I have no idea why. After rebooting, the app that crashed still has something in memory and if I try to open it without killing it first, it will immediately freeze the phone again and make it reboot again. It happened while I was watching videos on Facebook, it happened while I was watching videos on YouTube, it happened while I was browsing with Chrome, it happened during a Discord call, it happened during a telegram call, it happened while I was checking the NHS COVID-19 app... It can occur after few hours or several times an hour and I don't know what's causing it. Android is a Linux like OS, is there a way to check the journal and see what's happening? And on top of that, is there a way to let Google know and make Android automatically report crashes? The phone is still new, it's not rooted and I've only unlocked the developers options to force the refresh rate to 90Hz but that's it. I reached out to Google and they offered to replace the phone as soon as I send it (RMA) however I would like to find out first whether it's really an hardware problem or if it's Android 11 being unstable. I do have all the OS updates and all the apps are updated. What do you think? Oh last but not least, the SIM ain't an eSIM, it's a physical SIM placed inside the phone.
thank you in advance,
Frank

Have you tried resetting your network in settings? Were you using this same SIM in your old phone with no issues, or was it new? Have you tried to replicate the issue in safe mode to rule out an errant app? If resetting network doesn't work, just back up your data and factory reset the phone. Google may have suggested this already. It's pretty much their automatic response before RMA. Cheers.
Of course I tried to reset my phone and start from scratch but it didn't help. As to the SIM, it has been working fine on my old phone for years so it's not the one causing the issue. Besides, if I disable mobile data but I still use the phone to call other people using the carrier network, it doesn't have any issues at all. As to safe mode, it happened with Chrome and YouTube, standard Google apps, so I can rule out third party apps altogether. It's really weird.
I made a few more tests and it seems to be related to GPU Hardware acceleration. I said that it happened on Facebook, YouTube and Chrome and I thought about the common factor: I was watching videos. It happened while I was on Facebook watching videos, it happened while I was on YouTube watching videos and it happened while I was on Chrome visiting a website which had an ad in which there was a video playing.
Oh and it also happened when I opened the camera 'cause... guess what? Video!
What puzzles me is that it only happens in 4G but not in WiFi and I can't think of any possible reason why it's only occurring with mobile data...
Ok after trying to understand what happened I was finally able to solve the issue and it wasn't an hardware fault nor it was related to video. It was me using IPSec Xauth PSK with Always on VPN turned on. It turns out that using a third party application to connect via Open VPN fixed the issue. It's now more than a week and I've never had a single reboot or freeze or crash. I have no idea why, but all I can say is "stay away from IPSec Xauth PSK" guys, there's something deeply broken there. Anyway, I'm glad everything turned out to be ok.
Cheers,
Frank
