Hello!
I have a problem with my Nook HD+ since some weeks.
It is extremely slow, when I touch a buttin, it takes about 30 seconds for any reaction, sometimes even more. Scrolling takes about 5 seconds to react. Downloads via WiFi are also extremely slow, although I have a perfect WiFi connection. It is even hard to download a new CM11 version via the downloader, takes about 3 hours...
I have tried different CM11 builds, always with the same problem. Currently the 11-20141109-NIGHTLY-ovation.
Any hints or ideas to solve this?

Probably a lag issue due to trim. Search the forum for those terms to understand.

Did you try a clean re-installation (i.e., with factory reset and wipe /data)?
FWIW I've been running CM11 M snapshots without any issue.
Yes, tried a clean-reinstall with factory reset and wiping all data more than once. Last time yesterday evening. After first boot (took about 10 minutes) Nook started to download the german language pack with an estimated duration of 192 hours (!). WiFi connection ist perfect, no data transfer problems with my mobile phone....
Must try to understand the trim lag issue, not so easy when english is not your native language....
You go on to explain the German language pack download after first boot. You need to keep it clean to see if its the rom and device that's the problem and not what your putting on it.
That said, 192 hours for the German language pack doesn't mean there's anything wrong on your end - it could just be the computer server that it is being downloaded from is currently under heavy use or slow for you.
I always choose Germany at the initial setup. Then it downloads the german additions.
I will make a new install without any other language and keep you informed.
Have had similar slow down with last few nightlies but no wifi issues, have tried trim(which worked for a short time), ensuring have plenty free space now have 3.5gb free and finally found greenify - as saw it mentioned somewhere not sure where now but nook now running very quickly.
Just need to work out which process(es) are the cause of the issue.

What must I do to try trim?
Interesting fact too: When I wipe data/factory reset my Nook, I still have different folders of many apps on the internal storage. Looks like the wipe does not work properly...
For trim I have been using lagfix free from the google store

Wipe data/factory reset does not wipe your media files. To wipe media files you must go to mounts and storage and format 'data and datamedia'.

Isn't lagfix the app that helps bork (not necessarily brick) nooks?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390387
You like to play it dangerous. lol
Edit: I guess it may have been improved since then, but dunno. Certain people may still be using older rom builds where its definitely a problem.
I thought latest rom had the safety valves in place
So far its been fine and since greenify not had to use as this seems to have fixed my lag - if does bork my nook then will be able to give my other half something to opt on my xmas list!

I've been using CM6 for a little while now. I had a huge problem with the battery life, but that somehow just went away on its own and now I'm having just one major issue.
Over time it slows down a ton. I can barely take calls, I can't use some apps just because of how slow everything gets, I get some force close errors, etc.
Eventually it gets so bad that I have to reboot the phone, and then everything is nice and fast. But I have to reboot at least once or twice a day for normal use, and I don't see that it's necessary.
Is there any way I can find out what's slowing down my phone, or any way to fix it? I didn't get this problem in CM 508. It was slow, but it didn't get slower.
My exact ROM is CyanogenMod-6-09232010-NIGHTLY-DS
Only two questions to you:
1) Why do you use nightly builds if you want a stable OS?
2) Do you have swap enabled (which I expect, you have)? Read about swap space and thrashing, I expect this will answer your question.

I figured it was far enough along that it wouldn't be an issue
I don't have swap enabled
If you don't have swap enabled, you should try to clean caches. Go into menu / application management and order applications by size. Try cleaning caches, especially GenieWidget, Market, Browser, ... Most likely it will help

hey!
i can think on 3 things you can try...
1)Get swap enabled
2)set a bigger swap
3)try the above with a new card (make sure you buy a fast one category 6 i think they are called)
good luck
Im having speed problems also i might go back to a donut rom
i tried almost every ics rom and at start they all were very fast but after some time they become much much slow. any solution for this
Can this be because of your installed applications and overall system debris.

No not like that. I installed vry few apps but stil it gets slow. I tried Docs rom, slim rom even every 1 but they all get slow after some time. I always do full wipe and than instal clean fresh rom

Try restarting your phone, wiping up all the cache. Maybe this might help.

I have exactly the same problem. Wiping cashe through CWM doesn't change anything, it still gets slower after a few hours or a day max.
I have SE xperia neo v, rooted, unlocked bootloader, rom pureness 11, kernel nightelf 1.4. It gets so slow it actually refreshes/crashes (not sure) ex launcher pro and I can't do anything but reboot. Then everything is great and very fast at the beginning and then gets slower.
There is about 70mb RAM both at the beginning and later when it gets slow so I suppose it's not the full ram problem? CPU is also mostly free, I check if games are not running in background so that is not the problem as well. Internal space: about 85mb free and a few GB free on SD.
I have lots of apps installed (about 50) but I think it would slow my mobile from the very beginning after reboot?
Any advice?
I'm no expert on these devices, but I can tell you what I do to help with this problem... I simply hold the home button down until the recent apps show and then slide them off the screen. My phone runs OK for a few hours until I rinse and repeat...

Thanks, I will try it when the phone gets slow again and let you know it it helped.
Edit:
Nope, that's not it at all. Deleted everything from recent apps the way you told. Go launcher EX is right now turning on and off constantly, most of apps that are usually open have long since closed themselves. I have to reboot, there's nothing else I can do.
Edit 2:
I have deleted a few apps that I don't or rarely use and 4/5 of games I had. It stopped crashing my launcher and I don't have to reboot anymore. So I guess it was just too many apps and games (unless on the way I've done sth else that helped that I'm not aware of).
I had a similar problem(but worse) sometimes when using the stock rom.
I've replaced the stock rom and been using CM10.1 on emmc.
Sometimes when playing games the touch screen may become unresponsive but the 3 standard buttons still would work.
(as well as the hardware buttons.)
When this happens I'm not able to click on any of the icons on the home screen. (none of the control buttons work in game, either.)
I wonder if this is a hardware problem, CM10 problem, or a problem with the coding of the game (dungeon hunter 4.)
The problem actually does not last. Nook HD+ recovers by itself after about 1 minute.
Else, I could also click on the power button to turn off display and turn it back on.
Once it's back on everything is working including the in-game controls.
Does anyone have a similar problem?
I doubt this could be a bug in the game (Dungeon Hunter 4). The game is very buggy but when I play it on Nexus 7, I never experienced any control button issues. (Though it does crash "a lot" and sometimes more often than on the Nook HD+)
I had this experience before, just because of the memory going low so it needs time to respond. I advice you exit completely all your current apps and clean ram memory (also cache memory using Clean Master (Cleaner)) before playing games or heavy task. Also remember sometimes turn of completely device for few minutes and turn it back on to use. Hope this help

Thanks. I appreciate your help. I had this problem again today and I noticed the available ram was indeed quite low at the time.
Although it seemed unresponsive, it seemed more like being extremely slow.
Somehow if I turn off the display and turn it backs on it gets a bit better.
I suspect dungeon hunter 4 has a memory leaking problem. (memory not released completely if reload an area many times.)
I tend to have this problem if I load a lot of data in the game several times.
Strangely this does not occur on Nexus 7 based on the latest patch.
I searched in xda and it seemed last year Nexus 7 also had the same problem especially when playing certain games.
So I think this issue may come from rom which is used by nook hd+, with this issue i strongly recommend you post directly to verygreen original topic for him to discover. But if you can attacht catlog file also is better.

Thanks. I deleted the game as it is very buggy, crashes often and with many in game bugs. I'm finally done with it.
If I encounter the same issue with other apps I'll definitely upload the log.
I had it on all roms
Hi,
No, you are not alone. The issue occurred on all roms I used so far.
Indeed it mostly shows up in games, though I think I noticed it in other apps too occasionally.
I usually use the power button, but I'll try clearing the memory in the future...
M.
The M10 build of CM11 just came out, I read the blog post and saw the new version in my OTA updates (I flashed CWM to internal so I can do that and have for a few versions). I know it will probably go smoothly, but the horror stories about boot loops, soft bricks, and Android system process crashes that I've read about in the comments make me really nervous. Nobody's yet posted about the HD+/Ovation, but the first 5 CM11 M updates were all bad, even with a complete wipe, so I don't want to take the risk.
I am aware, though, that there are many users here who literally keep their devices for development and ROM testing purposes and don't have (much) personal date to worry about losing. Not so for me. So, I was wondering, could anyone do a CWM backup to SD, perform the OTA upgrade from the settings panel, and write a review/say what happens? Note that I have the most recent gapps installed, so those should be tested because they may cause issues.
Preferably someone with gapps who was going to do an upgrade anyway, so I don't inconvenience anyone by having them upgrade where they otherwise wouldn't.
You hint, but do not really say, that you already have CM11 installed. If so what version?
Many have already tried M10 and said there are issues with media scanner if you dirty install. See the CM11 thread.

M9, and it works perfectly, which is why I'm wary about updating. Also, the media scanner error can apparently be fixed by wiping the app's data/cache in settings and rebooting.

I installed M10 over M9, and it went very smooth. The usually two reboots, followed by optimising apps, and everything is up and running again. If anything comes up, I will certainly mention it.

I went from 10.2.1 to cm 11 nightlies just a few weeks ago and was pleased except for a few glitches like screen flashes between apps. When m10 came out I decided to go for what I understood as a generally more stable rom. Unfortunately I did not wipe first as I had upgraded from previous nghtlies without a problem. I had some issues as mentioned in another thread and realized you must wipe before install and I reinstalled. So far so good and I thank titanium for making restoration so easy. I still see screen flashes and a few random crashes but it seems good.

My HD+ also seems quite slow, especially as I load more apps on the 32GB internal card. My 7" HD has no issues with m10 nightlies, and is quite peppy.

I had noticed an interesting sort of choppiness or hitching after first flashing M10 but it either has gone away or I'm now adjusted to it. It wasn't much to begin with but it was there. Otherwise, that was all.
My nook is ~138 apps during the cache configuration (art) upon first boot as the best number I can give for app load. Surely the more apps and the more background services running on the device the harder it will be for it to keep everything going as fast as possible. If your not on art, that might help (recovery backup first for safety + be aware of art's hunger for more internal storage).
Otherwise, its also possible to "out grow" the device and need something more powerful at the same screen size. If your needs change, the device may need to be changed. (Or similar). Too many apps and you could find yourself there.

I tried ART with no improvement, so i am just going to experiment with a different build. My wife has an identical, fully loaded HD+ that zips right along on CM 10 with Jelly Bean, and my HD has no lag with KitKat, so I am not worried that the hardware will not handle the job. My son has an old Nook Tablet (pre-HD) that is really peppy on CM11 KitKat. I think all the Nook models are great for modding, and I am sure I will get this one performing as I like once I hit on the right combination.
** UPDATE ** I installed the latest Pac-Man ROM and I am now getting the performance I hoped for.
Installed M10. Did full wipe.
Was running a nightly from 03/2014 that was rock solid and fast (using ART).
All I can say to any one thinking of going to M10 is prepare to be disappointed. Its really laggy, even with other launchers, it looks terrible, the refresh rate/redraws/whatever are really obvious. Uncomfortably obvious. The screen sensitivity is really bad. Not responsive at all. I am looking forward to checking out the battery life over the next few days, because I have a sneaking suspicion it will deliver the trifecta of slower speeds, less responsive screen and worse battery life.
Trebuchet seems to be getting worse and worse. I wish Cyanogenmod would do a deal with one of the proper launchers and stop subjecting us to the substandard experience that is Trebuchet.
Oh yeah, and to top it all, the HD+ will no longer turn off. Selecting power off in the power menu just reboots the device. I now have to reboot into recovery and power off from there.
I am really disappointed. After all that effort backing up, wiping and reinstalling everything and actually took several (so many!) steps backwards.

I can only report the facts, I was expecting a different experience from M10. Generally, I also choose to use Nova but on M10 it is suddenly jerky, jagged and uncomfortably laggy.
I believe the Play store issue is a google issue, which seems to come and go as they update Play store app. For me, it started in March of this year, was fixed later on and then came back a couple of months later, only to disappear a few weeks later..
Update: the Power Off = Reboot issue cleared up after 3 reboots/power offs. Its now working properly.
I've had this issue since purchasing this tablet about 6 months ago, and perhaps it is just THIS tablet, but does everyone have the issue of the tablet being bogged down? What I mean is.....For example, if I click an app, it can take up to 10 seconds for the app to actually open. Also, sometimes the app will barely do anything once it is open, almost as if there is too much processing in the background and the tablet can't keep up.
I have next to nothing on the tablet, and I close my apps when I'm done using them. I only keep open my most used, which is usually only Hangouts and Trivia Crack. If you guys/girls have any advice on how I can speed this thing up, it would be GREATLY appreciated!
I am not seeing this, however which of the many 7" memo pad tablets are you using? I am on the ME572C. I will say that things definitely improved with one of the updates because out of the box it was slower than it is now. However I only ran on the out of the box version for about 3 hours before I updated to the current version of the software. I have never had 10 second lags during launch of an app... I do know that some of the memo pads have less ram than the ME572C and that can cause some stutter on app startup (low ram available for usage). I have experienced that type of stutter on another tablet (my old kindle fire which is on the otterX firmware and it only has 512megs of ram instead of 2gig like the ME572C.

It does have 1 gig of ram based upon looking it up. If you reboot the tablet from a clean start how long does it take until the problem starts occurring? How long has it been between reboots when you see this problem?
On my kindle fire otter/x before a leak got cleared up I had to reboot it on a regular basis (I had it scripted to reboot nightly) in order to attempt to prevent lag like you describe. Some apps even in the presence of a nightly reboot (and after a leak got fixed) would still take time to launch because the tablet would have to clean out the cached apps in order to get enough memory clear for the new app to run.
If you carefully choose to close apps rather than let android cache them after usage you might find that the behavior you are describing does not occur...(If you already know this I apologize, but Android by default has a tendency to keep apps running in the background, it assumes that you are going to switch back to them). Early on, people used task killer type apps to try and keep certain apps from clogging memory.
P.S. If you have the facebook app installed, disable it or uninstall it and then reboot the tablet, you might be startled at how much better the tablet might then perform...

Hey guys, I bought the Asus Memo Pad 7, model number K017, it has an internal storage of 8 GB and currently using 5.42 and I added an SD Card of 29.71 GB. I was wondering how could I release more internal memory, since I believe it's the reason why it's running so slow. I deleted as many apps I could and moved as much as I could to the SD but still not enough.
Any thoughts or tips are welcomed.
Thanks
In the last days I'm experiencing lots of problems with my ME173X-1B071A: always very very very slow (unusable) and overheating.

Maybe 1GB RAM is too little nowadays?
I think I will buy a new tablet.....
