Hi all,
Can someone explain or point me in the right direction about how to install any Odin alternative on Linux (Ubuntu 12.04 to be precise) and flash stock firmware (multipackage or single package) on Ace GT-S5830i. I unsuccessfully tried "heimdall" but i think it only works for Galaxy S series devices.
Also is it possible to flash stock firmware using CWM Recovery? If yes, then should it be deodexed? and can "any" deoxdexed stock rom be flashed via CWM?
Googling wasn't much of benefit so far, so it would be highly appreciated if someone can help.
First, this should have been in Q&A.
Second, can't you just run odin under wine?
Third, no you can't flash stock firmware through CWM

Thanx for responding.
1. There is no Q&A for 5830i, just for 5830 so i posted my question here instead
2. Wine and even Virtualbox's XP Vm couldn't make odin detect the phone. Maybe coz Wine doesn't work reliably with things that need hardware connections. I am also unable to install Samsung usb drivers in windows 8 release preview 64-bit. I was wondering if there is some software like "heimdall" for other than galaxy-s devices, Or may be any command line method to flash stock rom in linux.
3. I Got it :good:

It's been reported to work on other devices than the Galaxy S, so you can try your luck.

Thanx for responding. I actually already tested it for S-5830i and S-5660 and unfortunately it didn't work. But if you say that it has been reported to work on other than "S" devices, i'll have another shot at it :good:

Hello,
so I used Chainfire's original CF-Auto-Root for SM-G900H and the Stock recovery files from SM-G800F (G800FXXU1ANG7_DBT Firmware from Sammobile.com). I was able to have root on the Stock firmware using the attached file via Odin.
BUT: IT WILL MAKE KNOX WARRANTY VOID 1.
If anyone else is interested to try:
Download Mode: (VolDn+Home+Power, VolUp)
Odin PDA (AP): cf-auto-root-sm_g800f-kminilte-xxu1ang7.tar.md5
Auto Reboot
Enjoy rooted device.
It might be a good idea to reflash the original stock recovery afterwards as currently no custom recoveries are available. g800forigrecovery.tar.md5
Cheers.

Thanks a lot! What did you do to get your flashable .tar.md5 from the auto root g900h? Is there a howto which reveals how to do this?

Hi,
No there is no howto beyond the standard how to make a custom rom and kernel using android kitchen. I simply analysed the recovery image in CF-Auto-Root and took the hardware relevant files and replaced them with those from the stock recovery of SM-G800F, and set the filesystems and sizes appropriately. Most of the magic happens in executable binaries made by Chainfire that are run automatically when recovery mode is started. I do not have their source code.
Cheers.

Thanks for your answer! I was asking because I was hoping to adapt the new G800FXXU1ANGE image from samfirmware but without a howto I won't try this with my s5 mini for the first time (too much worries to brick it :/)

Hi,
The rooting file above should work even on G800FXXU1ANGE. First flash the new firmware normally via Odin. Then after reboot flash the CF-auto-root from above. Only in the last step to get the original recovery back you need to get that file out of the new firmware package.
I can tell you how to make a odin flashable file with just the original recovery under linux. Copy the original tar.md5 file to /tmp and do the following commands
Code:
tar -xf your_original_firmware.tar.md5
tar -c -H ustar recovery.img > G800ForiginalrecoveryXXU1ANGE.tar
md5sum -t G800ForiginalrecoveryXXU1ANGE.tar >> G800ForiginalrecoveryXXU1ANGE.tar
mv G800ForiginalrecoveryXXU1ANGE.tar G800ForiginalrecoveryXXU1ANGE.tar.md5
I hope this helps.
Cheers.

Hi,
The last step does not remove root. It reinstates the original recovery partition, so in download mode it goes back to everything official instead of custom. One might need the recovery if something goes wrong and one wants to do a data wipe or cache wipe.

Dr.Ketan Method
- Download SuperSu 2.46 from chainfire and copy to SD
- Switch Off device and reboot to download (Vol down + Home + Power) to get into download mode)
- Get custom recovery (I have used Chenglu's CWM 6.0.5.1)
- Uncheck Auto reboot in Odin and flash custom recovery
- Once flashing pass, reboot device to recovery manually (Vol up + home +power)
- Flash SuperSu zip you copied in step 1
CMW recovery link: http://d-h.st/9ahQ
Dr.Ketan Method also Works... But you will Lose Stock Recovery//
Will this trip the warranty flag?
What features are people using that require root? I just got lollipop on my 910g and wondering if I should root
is there a link that i can use to download without the crap. @sriszone
i have tried downloading N910g-cwm-recovery-6.0.5.1 a number of times from different sites and its always corrupt
Try flashing latest TWRP it will then root Rom once you go into recovery and reboot it will ask if you want to root
Y u guys using custom recovery.... Check the thread guys for cf auto root

Yes, I installed the safestrap app, then inside of it installed recovery. But, you need to make sure you have Busybox installed before trying to install recovery.
I don't think you can use cyanogenmod on an AT&T Note 3. There's not a correct version for it. I tried and it didn't work and said I needed an hlteatt version, which there isn't.
You may want to look for a TouchWiz based ROM for the AT&T version.

How I go about doing the safestrap method? You have walkthrough?
Hello! I have been searching the forums and google, but still a little confused on a few things and hoping you guys can help me out.
I have the stock AT&T Note 3 on Lollipop (N900AUCUEOC2) and I am wanting to root the device. From my understanding, I am needing to downgrade the baseband version via Odin, then root. I did come across this post in an older thread (I didn't want to resurrect an old thread):
Rooted i747 said:
You can't root OC1, but you can use Odin to downgrade to NC2 and root it. Odin v.3.10.6 http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3109599&d=1420980613. Once you Odin back you can use Towel root or Kingo root (links are posted above your post). Then install Supersu https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu&hl=en and run it, install Busybox https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en open and install it, then Safestrap http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=7216. (You should make a backup once Safestrap is installed before you flash any Roms). Once you're done you can pick a Rom for your Note 3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/development Now you ever use Odin? http://www.samsungodindownload.com/odin-tutorial/ (The site only shows flashing the All-In-One file so you know). But, this was in response to a person with the baseband version of N900AUCUEOC1 while I am on N900AUCUEOC2. Can I follow these same instructions using the same 4 files he uploaded or will that brick my phone? Or, is there a different method you guys recommend to rooting my phone?
Many thanks!

Sorry for the double post, but it has successfully been rooted! I initially had a Korean popup in Odin upon plugging in my phone. Using a different PC resolved that issue. Other than that, zero issues. Greatly appreciate the help!
Will this method trip the knox counter? If I understand it properly I don't think it will, but I just want to verify.

Could you tell me what do with Odin? Do I have to do anything after downloading it? And do I have to use Safe Strap if I'm not flashing any ROMs? Thanks
