[Q] Rooting AT&T Note 3 Lollipop - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I have been searching the forums and google, but still a little confused on a few things and hoping you guys can help me out.
I have the stock AT&T Note 3 on Lollipop (N900AUCUEOC2) and I am wanting to root the device. From my understanding, I am needing to downgrade the baseband version via Odin, then root. I did come across this post in an older thread (I didn't want to resurrect an old thread):
Rooted i747 said:
You can't root OC1, but you can use Odin to downgrade to NC2 and root it. Odin v.3.10.6 http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3109599&d=1420980613. Once you Odin back you can use Towel root or Kingo root (links are posted above your post). Then install Supersu https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu&hl=en and run it, install Busybox https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en open and install it, then Safestrap http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=7216. (You should make a backup once Safestrap is installed before you flash any Roms). Once you're done you can pick a Rom for your Note 3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/development Now you ever use Odin? http://www.samsungodindownload.com/odin-tutorial/ (The site only shows flashing the All-In-One file so you know). Use all 4 Odin files, N900AUCUCNC2 ODIN Files, BL https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891602 AP https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891890 CP https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891603 CSC https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891604

But, this was in response to a person with the baseband version of N900AUCUEOC1 while I am on N900AUCUEOC2. Can I follow these same instructions using the same 4 files he uploaded or will that brick my phone? Or, is there a different method you guys recommend to rooting my phone?
Many thanks!

As long as you use all four files, you won't have any problems.

Thanks for the quick response! I will be trying this shortly and let you know when it succeeds

Sorry for the double post, but it has successfully been rooted! I initially had a Korean popup in Odin upon plugging in my phone. Using a different PC resolved that issue. Other than that, zero issues. Greatly appreciate the help!

Will this method trip the knox counter? If I understand it properly I don't think it will, but I just want to verify.

Im wanting to root my att note 3 on the oc2 firm ware but using heimdall if possible. I don't have access to a windows pc right now. Any way to do this. Heimdalls front end just does not have a gui much like odins at all. Tried jodin or what ever it wont work at all.

Could you tell me what do with Odin? Do I have to do anything after downloading it? And do I have to use Safe Strap if I'm not flashing any ROMs? Thanks

From the first post where I was quoted from (pictured below). Each one has two letters in front of it so you know where it goes in Odin N900AUCUCNC2 ODIN Files, BL https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891602 AP https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891890 CP https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891603 CSC https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891604

Hey guys, I have the same problem. Tried the same method as above. Couldnt find the thread about it.
I Even tried to download the stock firmware from Dr.Ketan's post and use Odin but couldnt extract the files.
Please Help...
Thanks
you need to use jig, if you have raised binary counter, back to stock ROM, can't solve it.
BTW, use winrar/7zip to extract file.

Firstly, Thanks Dr.Ketan.
I am a newbie. Would you be able to share about 'jig' ?
Thanks in advanced again.
You can purchase OR make yourself here is guide

Using a jig is unfortunately the only way to reset your Samsung Note into a clean (warranty friendly) status. To be honest... it is some kind of "blind flight" because after loading the old ("wrong") bootloader via ODIN your device will show nothing after the reboot. Could be a little be scary for some people... but it works ;-)

Before I do this, I am going to use Odin to go back to stock.
I downloaded this firmware from your post:
N7000DXLA1 -------2.3.6 2012 January-----N7000OLBKL2-------Malaysia
Questions:
1. Do I need the PDA & CSC files to execute this unroot? Where can I obtain it? Have been searching for hours still cant find it.
2. What is the best way to root it again?
Thank you.

Single file .tar is enough, when u go back to stock with pc odin, it will automatically get unroot.

There is best way is zergrush exploit.

I'd like to speed up my Note. Kinda sluggish at stock. Even iPhones are smoother. What is Rocket Rom & Litening Rom? Is it safe? Which is better? or are there any better ones out there?
Just before unrooting I was using AbyssNote2.3, 1.703GHz, alot of heating & no difference that it was earlier. Netchip was smoother.
Thanks
Zergrush n CF root using same exploit to Root. CF root have extra benifit that it pushes CWM along with Root.
Really I never used any custom ROM till day. N it depend on own choice n requirement. You can find details n review of other on corresponding ROM thread, I can't comment much on it.

Nice! :good:
Worked with no problems!
Flashed all 4 files using Odin 3.07 over stock, unrooted, NC9 OTA , which in turn I had flashed over stock, unrooted, ML2 through stock recovery. I had used the same Odin 3.07 to flash ML2 over MF3 (which came with the phone).
I had rooted the MF3 and installed Safestrap on it at some point. Once I decided a couple of days ago to try to upgrade all the way to NE3, I uninstalled Safestrap, all other programs I had installed and unrooted with SuperSu and did a factory reset in preparation for the ML2 flash with Odin (the phone still said custom when it booted after that, but once I flashed the ML2 Odin files, the phone was back to the stock boot animation).
I actually was stuck on the stock, unrooted, NC9 yesterday because after trying to flash the NE3 OTA through the stock recovery, the OTA seemed to be applied, but upon reboot the phone was still at NC9? And today, the solution! Thanks to all involved!:good:
By the way, I checked my knox counter when I entered Download (Odin) Mode before I flashed NE3 and it was at 0x0, so it seems that neither rooting nor installing Safestrap on MF3 changed the knox counter to 0x1
Next step, root with Towelroot, see how that goes (Thank you Geohot!):good:
flashed successfully from nc9. working phone, data, GPS and camera.

It might be the actual stock ROM (I didn't check that particular file you mentioned) but in general the stock ROM for this phone comes in four files which begin with the following:
AP, CP, CSC, BL
You can load those in their corresponding spots in Odin (BL in bootloader, and so on)
Or you can head over to sammobile and download the stock firmware, which is a Samsung Kies dump file. This is one giant tar ball ( like the one in the video) which you'll just load into the PDA section of Odin 3.09 and flash away.
When you're clicking on ODIN are you running it as Admin? Also see the guy in the video using a USB 2 cable.
yes i am running as admin. it only works when i only use pda. when i put in the bl and csc and cp is keeps failing. after if flashed the pda file the phone reboots and freezes on the samsung screen. should i try doing it one by one?
it wont work still failing. should i flash one by one?
I did but i cant load it. i only get to the samesung logo and it freezes. only thing i can get into is download mode and the stock recovery. is there a way to boot into safestrap when phone is off? im running out of ideas and ive tried to do it on different computers and cords.
it seems like the bootloader file is the only one not working. do you have any idea? please please please help guys

Download the G900A_Downgrade_to_NCE.rar. Unzip and you should get this file "G900A_Downgrade_to_NCE.tar.md5". Now Run Odin 3.09 as admin, and put your phone in download mode. In Odin click on the AP icon and point to the G900A_Downgrade_to_NCE.tar.md5. Wait until Odin finishes loading the file it takes some time. Plug usb cable to your phone while in download mode. Once Odin is ready click start. Wait until Odin is done. Your phone will reboot once the flash is done. Please Thank @muniz_ri for his hard work.

Now, Instead of making sarcastic comments, I will provide some assistance. There is one thing left out of all of these tutes that took me a while to catch on to. As a result, my phone was doing the same thing.
When you follow the downgrade instructions, yes leave out the boot loader. Sometimes, the downgrade doesn't do the job properly, so you'll have to go to this thread, scroll to the very bottom post and you'll see a link for "G900A_NCE_Stock_Modem"
You will need to flash this along with the stock firmware. It should correct the boot issue. (Flash in PDA slot)
Furthermore, you will not be able to update via WiFi OTA. You'll have to download the official update files in .zip format.
Go to this thread for the " G900A_NCEtoNG3_OTA.zip" to update from NCE to NG3.
This next step is optional, but it won't hurt to try it. Go here and grab the stock NG3 modem and recovery. Flash each (one at a time) in the PDA slot.
My personal opinion of the 4.4.4 update is low. There are many issues with it. But if you're trying get the phone completely up to date then:
Go here for the final update.
You should now be set. Please thank @muniz_ri for his unrelenting dedication to helping others.
It is not my intention to be an ass, but you should begin with google, and then search entire AT&T forum before posting questions like this. Chances are, others have had the same problem, asked, and received a solution exactly like this.
Anyways, I hope I was able to guide you in the right direction...
Edit: It seems that both of the update zips are in the OA1 root guide thread.
P.S.
Your phone is from AT&T, right?

Oh how I wish I had this when I softbricked my device last weekend, had to flash the tmo firmware over the non booting at&t firmware
flashed this a couple of days ago and so far everything is great.
when I unzzipped the files, I see 4 zip files ending with .tar, they just need to be placed in odin to flash, correct? Or do I need to rename them to .md5

No need to rename. When you open Odin you'll add the files to Odin using the buttons (BL,AP,CP,CSC) AP will take a while, be patient. After all added, hit start and sit back

This went very smoothly, seems to run great I have no voLTE functionality though. I came from 935U is there something I have to do to have that feature working again?
