I am not going to start a rant about the things wrong with this phone, but can anyone tell me if there is a way to hide apps from the app drawer? Or once things are installed they stay there?
You could Disable most but not all of your apps. For the ones that you cannot disable you could use a custom launcher which would allow you to hide apps.
So the answer is no without getting a custom launcher
nova launcher

Who said anything about root? I know a launcher doesn't require root, but it is ridiculous that the stock os is so cumbersome.

Nothing you or anyone else can say on here that can offend me. You have 2 posts asking for what appears to be a solution to what you want to accomplish and you are receiving solutions. Your attitude is a bit snarky showing that you aren't really looking for a solution but rather a soap box to vent your complaints. That's fine and I say "nice attitude" in the most sarcastic way and wish you good luck in whatever it is in which you wish to accomplish.

A launcher is not a solution. It's a work around. If I wanted to vent I would have vented in my original post. I would prefer not to have a $650 phone that I dislike so I am doing my best to have it accommodate basic needs so please don't mistake lack of enthusiasm to fundamentally change my os all together via a launcher as snarky.

This doesn't work on lollipop and newer.
Just interested in knowing, as it has always been stated that this phone is vanilla android with Moto added functions and of course Verizon bloat, what phones or mfg skins are you familiar with that allow hiding apps in app draw without modifying launcher?
Edit: sorry just realized old post...nm.

Assuming that such a ridiculous thing even existed (there are scams on the market that claim to be antivirus programs -- they're NOT), it WOULD.

While I agree with lbcoder, the "MICROSHAFT" comment was unhelpful and unnecessary. Ever heard of/used an anti-virus product on a WinMo phone? Nope. Me either.
And for the record... Linux and OSX have viruses as well.
Don't worry about a virus on your Android phone.

i've heard of at least one, but i can't remember the name of it.
a job i was doing some years ago saw the boss and myself using imate jasjams (HTC TyTN?).
my boss managed to locate an antivirus app for the phone and installed it.
no idea how well it worked. i didn't bother with it.
Symantec had/has one for WinMo. I used it for a while. But it was more of a gimmick than anything else. Never seen a virus or a positive scan.
I would say because of the nature of Android we shouldnt see much in terms of viruses, however the system leaves much too control to trojans imho.
read bout this new app from droidsecurity called virusfree, meant to be good. They also offer a phone tracking service so you can remote wipe the memory if it's lost or stolen, that sounds pretty handy as I've previously had a phone stolen and it's a pain to change passwords etc

wouldn't virsus be possible if they do manage to get root access? I know a few of the customized ROMs require no notification for applications to gain root status. I am sure with root, an application can some how manage to do some damage. rm -r /sdcard anyone?
Very new to root and roms. I upgraded to 4.0.1 very soon after having 3.6.8.1.
What are some of the neat things you can do? What settings have you changed? I JUST found out that there was another keyboard other than the android touch.
I did not know where this was appropriate and did not want to junk up cyans rom thread. Hope this is okay and apologies if its not. Just want to know what other cool features I am missing out on, and to also see what settings people roll with.

Best way to get the whole story is to compare the changelog of 3.6.8.1 to 4.0.1 which is available in their respective threads. One thing that was cool was the global search function from donut but that go reverted in 4.0.1. It will probably make an appearance in the 4.x.x experimental series however.....
I should clarify, I did not have 3.6.8.1 long enough to find all the easter eggs either. What settings do you change or things do you use after flashing his rom?

Hey DirectMatrix is this going to be another thread like yesterday.
yeah i'd also like to know.. im also new to the art of the root.. i also have my own questions
i know the myfaves app doesnt work, in fact doesnt even appear lol, but the actual myfaves service still works right?
and do the im apps work? im talking about the native one. it doesnt seem to be working for me =/
also, i want my settings optimized for overall speed.. what do you guys use for this?

You don't want the mygayes app on your phone anyways, its just a hog. It still does work, if you need to set it up just go to your online account and do it.
What native im app are you talking about, its been to long since I had the factory rom installed. But I can vouch for aim and googletalk do work.
If you are on Cyanogens rom everything should be optimized to full speed.
yeah i never used the myfaves thing to begin with, thats why when i heard its gone if you root, i didnt really care lol. plus i was already planning on getting rid of the whole service anyway. but thanks!
im talking about the one that comes with the phone. has aim, msn, and yahoo. i try logging but it just endlessly keeps saying "signing in..". im not sure if i just have to wait, or if its not working.
awesome!

Point taken...my appologies...Supreme and I like to keep things lighthearted and have some fun. I'm sure I speak for him when I say we both apologize for offending you.
To answer your question....I was pretty much being completely serious about reading the change logs and comparing. That's where I get most of my info but as far as settings go, I second someone else's poste about the badass power widget. I also like the 5 homescreen options, the logcollector app is nice for troubleshooting, the fact that the buld.prop file has been changed slightly means that the new version of "My Account" runs properly without any futzing around, and playing around with the text app is fun because of the mms enhancements courtesy of rgv151.
Many of the other enhancements that make cyan's ROMs awesome are behind the scenes that just make it run faster (kernel tweaks, CPU scaling etc). These have no options available to the user, they just are part of the build that contribute to cyanoganized awesomeness.

Just like Direct said we ain't tryna make fun or nothing. We do help out alot, but after a long boring day of programming at work we got to do something fun to help pass time away. And hey we really didn't even joke around unlike the other thread. Best thing to do is just play around with the phone, try out all the apps, play with the settings, and just explore. Like Direct said alot of things are behind the scenes.

Try Moves.. It pretty accurate.
I think best one is runtastic pedometer. It is brilliant and you can adjust the sensitivity of the steps. And by the way, it has to run constantly in background if you want all your steps to be counted, and yes, it has to drain your battery. Otherwise it is not possible to count all the steps. But if sometimes you don't want the app to count your steps, you can easily greenify it, and when you need it you can degreenify it.
An alternative

I would suggest try a bunch of them off Mobogenie, you can even find the regular apps that would charge you for free! That way you can try a couple of good ones without having to pay a single cent and switch the one you prefer best. Honestly it's a great store and PC client for anything else you might need as well, so I highly recommend it. Good luck otherwise!

Are you suggesting on Pirating apps on a developer community?
If you are please refrain cause anything about Pirating is against the rules of XDA. You don't want to get banned. And apps are usually very low price.
