Hi folks,
Running CM7.2 on my phone but I need some advice on a good kernel to use with it.
I installed 2.6.32.59-ETaNa_LOC_LITE_OTF this afternoon but it has made me phone awful to use.
From standby the screen takes ages to switch on... so long that I think I mispressed the button so press it again so by the time it comes on, it switches straight back off again.
Also the phone is very sluggish to use.
Sometimes it won't even come out of sleep at all and I have to pull the battery...
Can anyone suggest another kernel that I could try please?
Just use the cm7 kernal. If you want voodoo sound look in temaseks unofficial builds.
The standard kernal is very stable...

Ironkernel was a good alternative but I don't know if is regulary updated you can check setiron g+ page

Probably there is something wrong in your rom..unfortunately etana is the kernel updated most frequentely than the others..at this point you can use the cm7 kernel, swiftextreme or ironkernel but they are very old respect etana..have you tried the v3?
This is another vote for the stock kernel. If you want to see if you can make it faster, you can try the snappy mod. It's inside Temasek's mediafire folder.
I had CM7-1.0 before with pawitp kernel.
Today, I flashed the latest CM9 nightly and right now am on the stock kernel.
I have the following kernels with me at the moment:
—Semaphore ICS Kernel from here
—Devil3 from here
My questions:
Which one of these Kernel will give me the best battery life and is fast at the same time?
Will I get a bootloop if I flash either of these kernels over the stock kernel which comes with the CM9 nightly?
There are both BLN and CMC kernels on this page. Which one should I be using?

1. Try it yourself, flashing kernel is about 1 minute. Both kernels are great.
2. Try it yourself, bootloop isn't yet diagnosed. Sometimes it happens sometimes not.
3. there are only 2 versions: cmc (cm colours) and vc (voodoo colours).
Also before flashing wipe cache/dalvik and clear init.d and ns tools

Hi, before you flashing a new kernel, flash first the kernel cleaning script from lipol. then you have no problems with the new kernel.
And what you think about midnight Kernel? I use this Kernel and i'm very happy with them. You have with that kernel a very good Battery life.
via Tapatalk 2
Used to always use kernel cleaning script lately Kernel cleaning script gives me boot loop nearly everytime.
Wipe cache, wipe dalvick, clear ns tools and clear init.d is fine.
Of the kernels you have mentioned i have found semaphore to have better battery and to be more stable unless you want to over clock. Or that is my experience anyway.

After using stock cm 9 kernel for quite a while I was curious to try out semaphore and regretted it only hours afterwards...
With Antutu Benchmark App I got 400 Points less compared to stock kernel... after some hours my phone hang up (black screen, ne wake up). Some hours later the next black screen... Finally I got back to stock kernel and I am happy again
Its very fluid and responsive, in my opinion there is really no need für a custom kernel in CM9, only if you need USB Host support and the ability to overclock...
I'm using devil3 kernel and I love it, it's just awesome. I think it's more customizable than semaphore, but a bit harder to set. Anyway, you should test by yourself both of them, remember to flash lippol's kernel cleaner before flashing a new kernel

Devil kernel is the best for me. I love all the options and speed. I over clock to 1.4GHz, use lulzactive governor with smooth UI profile and everything is tuned for performance and I still get almost 2 days on battery. Using cm9

I would suggest devil kernel, it has a very good battery live, some great features like swap or zram
And BTW: Just flash your kernels over each other, no use to flash kernel cleaning script neither wipe dalvik cache. it has nothing to do with kernels ;-)

Devil3 for me too. As well as being fast and having decent battery life, it's the only kernel that had voodoo color. Once you've found the best settings for your screen there's no going back.

Devil3 for me too. It works like a charm. :good:
I'm running CM9 stable with Semaphore 1.3 on 1.2GHz and smartassV2 governor.
Never had any problems with semaphore so i keep using it. my battery lasts for 1 day while running games for several hours, and up to 4 days, if i barely use it.
i know many people don't like benchmarks, but i thought i'd attach my quadrant-score anyways.

In cm settings - performance raise the min frequency from 216 to 316 or 324 mhz.
Maybe this will help you.

Well if you are using the oficial CM7.2 Stable, unfortunatly you cannot edit the CPU governors nor u can OC/UV.
Maybe reinstall the CM7.2 Stable with full wipe (dalvik included) don't forget BACKUP before anything else

Neither way i would try to reflash....
that issue is not normal, if you like good batery performances like me than increasing minimum CPU frequencys is not the way to go....just sayin'

I try a full wipe with wipe dalvik, reflash the cm and set the min cpu speed to 456 but no luck... my P990 still sleep of dead...

I'm not using cm7 anymore but are you sure?
If I remember correctly then it was possible to raise values. It's just not possible to overclock with the default kernel.
@op: try the Etana 2.6 kernel from vadonka. Maybe it will work better on your phone, worth a try.
If it's still problematic you could try to give each mhz step +25mV.

It's here: http://etana.donka.hu/?dir=kernel/2.6.32.y
Vadonka has the 2.6 kernel in the third post of his thread.
I would recommend the 1204021107-ETaNa_LOC_LITE_OTF.zip one.
As I said a +25mV could help you, if the bsods are voltage related.
i flash the 1204021107-ETaNa_LOC_LITE_OTF.zip and try to add the voltage but the antutu just let me -25mV ( can't +25mV)... anyway, same result, my P990 still sleep of dead :silly:
after clean install the MIUI, it run so fast, so i will stik with MIUI and wait the official LG android 4.0 release ( maybe next next next ... years )
Many Thanks

thx for your post.
I will try it and if its working without any problems it comes in the next version
Sounds interresting what GeeckoDev found out. Looks like the new freque. also goot for non playing Note 1 users...
57hz - 59hz is completely safe. If you go beyond that, bootanimation will start to derp (turn off/on the screen once it's fully booted and you're good to go). Also you will have no access to the recovery. I only experienced that on AOSP, though. On Touchwiz I could go to 62hz without a problem. 64hz is fine with the workaround above.
It improves smoothness and lowers latency by quite a good margin (~17ms at 57hz, ~16ms at 60hz, ~15ms at 64hz).
Also, good luck with your kernel!

Hello Bauner
First of all thank u very much for a great kernel. I have tested the non OC and OC 1.5. Everything runs smoothly except for stock video player that got busted with the OC'ed vers just like forest's. I have yet to test battery as I have just completed one battery cycle. Will update if there's anything pops.

I also test it for 2 days on DU Rom and it is working smooth. I'm using the non OC version but it seems the kernel loves to stick on 1.1 and 1.4 speed which is why the battery drains much faster.
I also noticed that when Wifi is on and while screen off, it seems to drain also much faster, while on stock it consumes about 150-170mah on this kernel it consumes 230-250mah.
What I'm happy about this kernel though is that it seems to resolve my issue with Dynamic Colors on DU as I had no single reboots while using it. On stock kernel I had reboots when using Dynamic Colors.
Is there a way that instead of always using 1100 speed, it will use a lower frequency like 800 or 900?
Many thanks for the kernel!
Thanks bauner for the great kernel.my note now more energized and smooth after flash with oc1.5ghz tw....antutuscore got 17k..also problem on whatsapp memory leak seems resolved now

did you try to close all running apps and then check again?
if tehere are running apps that makes i/o can make this kernel running on higer frequencies because my modifications on ondemand.
you could try to use an tool like no-frills cpu control and try another cpu governor like pegasusq or conservative.
with this tool you also can see how long your cpu was running on every frequency

Thanks! Will test maybe tom and change my governor to pegasusq. Hopefully when on normal use it will use a lower frequency instead of 1100. I'm using BetterBatteryStats to see how long each frequency runs and the majority is 1400, 1100 and 100.
About the higher consume of battery, yes there is one app that was running and it was FB messenger though it was also running when I compared it to the stock kernel from DU.
I'll give feedback again once I'm done with testing.
with my rom+kernel it doesn't stay at high frequencies.
