Hey guys, I have a quick question
Today i rooted my sony xperia z android 4.4.4 and i was wondering if i can update it to android 5.0 when it gets released for xperia z. Or is it already released, because I've seen threads about lollipop on sony xperia z. Confuzeddd haha.
Thanks in advance!
P.S. I'm new to forums!
hmm did i post this in the wrong section, or is it a dumb question cuz im not getting any answers xD
Official lollipop is months away, and when released, ftf files will be all over the place for you to flash with flashtool. Or if you have unlockable bootloader, pre-rooted zips will be provided to flash via xz-dualrecovery . No need to worry about OTA. In the meantime, if you can unlock your bootloader, try the pabx or Thomas early releases in original android development section
Welcome to XDA! The threads you saw are unofficial Android Lollipop ROMs. So the official one is not ready yet.

It is simple if you can read or search, try Xperia Z Original Android Development and Xperia Z Android Development are the areas to look, in this order
Is it possible to root the new fw 10.1.1.A.1.253 whithout unlock the bootloader? I've been reading the forum for hours and the methods I've found seems not to work with 10.1.1.A.1.253..
If there is a way, could someone please tell me where I can find the step by step guide?
Thanks!
+1

Well, I'm new here and maybe I did not look at the right place...
But if you mean this thread:
> Sony Xperia Z > Xperia Z Android Development > [ROOT] Xperia Z, ZL, Tablet Z {LB/UB} [Exploit by: goroh_kun & huhka_com]
It's not working for the firmware I asked...
Requirements:
Xperia Z, ZL with stock Sony JB firmware (as of now tested on: 10.1.D.0.317, 10.1.D.0.322, 10.1.A.1.350, 10.1.A.1.434)
I looking for a guide to ROOT 10.1.1.A.1.253 whithout unlock bootloader...
Thanks!

I'd suggest to look better.
Or use the search button.

its literally on the first page....
you might want to try this guide instead, I found it easier and nothing gets wiped.

Hello people,
I am an Android writer my self, and you might think that what kind of dumb Android expert am I who can't fix his phone? I have fixed a lot of software issues in my life, but this one is pain in the... Anyway, I have an Xperia Z, and I want to update it to 10.5.A.0.230 a.k.a Android 4.2.2 but when I download and try to install the update, the phone just reboots, and says the update failed, try again. I tried it couple of times, nothing worked. I need your help, so please find me a solution. This phone was previously rooted, and as I bought it from someone else, they 'unrooted' it and gave me the original thing.
So people, fire away!

Hi
I appreciate your Android knowledge but..
the 10.5.A.0.230 build number is not Android 4.2.2. It's 4.4.2.
And 4.2.2 is outdated now because there is Android 4.4.4 is released for this device.
Anyway. You getting this error because something in the system is modified by your friend which was rooted. So the updating via OTA won't work for you. I recommend you to you Flashtool software for PC and download a FTF file which contains the whole device software and system and flash it with Flashtool. But your phone will wiped for sure so backup first.

Do I need to install 4.4.2 first, or can I go to 4.4.4 directly from 4.3? And if possible, can you provide me some authentic download links.
Thanks.

You can go directly to 4.4.4.
Stock 10.5.1.A.0.292 (4.4.4) FTF.
Part 3 of my guide shows how to use Flashtool.
If you need any more help, then just ask.

Thank you so much. I will let you know once I am done with it
I had the same problem with OTA . Just flash it with the Sony's program (when you connect your phone to PC,you are asked to install this program). It will not deleted anything, but it's better that you do a hard reset after the installation

Ive recently bought a Sony Xperia Z C6603, it came with 4.2, and updated to 4.3, a month ago I updated to 4.4.4 kitkat, Id like to know how to root it since I had samsung S2 before it and rooted it, and there are some apps I really miss with root. The problem is that video tutorials and written ones talk about 4.2, so is it the same with kitkat? Also I really like the stock sony look so I dont want to flash a new rom or anything, if its the same, a good video tutorial with links would be great, sorry Im pretty noob with android rooting.
How to root 10.5.1.A.0.283 / 10.5.1.A.0.292
If you have trouble with any of the steps, then post in the thread and I'll try to assist.

Yes. That's why I linked you to it!
It's the only way to root 4.4.4 without unlocking your bootloader.

Usually you can flash an FTF via a flashtool of different firmwares as long as you do not change your basebands.
Download an FTF from general section, use flashtool (google it and download it with proper drivers) and go ahead and flash the latest ftf but DO NOT CHANGE basebands.
Also, you can google how to use Flashtool. There are plenty guides on XDA.
Make sure you use device specific FTF or you would brick your device . So be very careful.
Quote me back if you expect a reply. Good Luck
