So I just bought an Otterbox case for my phone. I love the feel of it but I noticed something very worrying. Directly to the left of the USB port on the phone, there are two plastic grips that overlap. This is causing the phone's screen to separate from the body ever so slightly. Enough for me to notice though. I'm worried this may damage the spring and lock that holds the screen on the slider.
Anybody who owns the same Otterbox case, could you check for me to see if yours does the same? Just close the phone with the case on and look inbetween the phone from the top to the bottom. Then push the phone open ever so slightly so that the two plastic pieces don't overlap. Am I alone here?
I haven't noticed that, but I have noticed that my Otterbox case keeps my power button held down all the time, which has ended up pushing it right in. Now I need to get my power button fixed by Sony Ericsson.
The screen and pad separating was probably not caused by the case. It is caused by the sliding of the control pads over a period of time. I'm sure everyone has the same issue eventually, with or without the case. When I'm typing now... I feel extra texture lol from the screen hitting the pad..

I have had mine over a month now and dont have any issues what so ever on mine. Love it... great case. I dont have the rubber overlapping, or the power button pressing down issues........ I would send an email to Otterbox and see if they would be willing to send out a replacement if its a defect case. There customer service is super top notch
I emailed them and there is a case on it's way to me as a replacement. And I took the case off to see if it was just the phone itself but it isn't. It's the case, the two plastic grips overlap.
See here:

Does yours do that?
Thank you for the visual. My case does not have any issues, and the rubber section inquestion does not look how the photo does. I'm glad to hear that they are sending out a replacement. I have nothing but praise for Otterbox. Anyhow keep us updated on the new case.

Thanks for the feedback. If you don't mind, could you take a picture similar to the one I took and post it here? I would like to see the difference.
Sorry I have not got back sooner. I am at work and dont have access to camera right now. I will take a photo later and upload it when i can.
I just recently received an Otterbox case for my play and I too have that overlap issue. What I did was just cut off the overlapping clip on the left side of the top cover. Case didn't seem worse for it, it's not loose or anything.
What did you use to do that?

A sharp knife. I'm planning on cutting out the silicon covering the left and right triggers next since it's significantly harder to press them with the silicon on.
Haha I already did that to the triggers. SO much better and the phone is still safe.
When my phone is laying flat on a table the touch sensitivity is very poor, at least around the edges. I can't pull down the notification bar and the nav bar is near unresponsive. It almost feels like it's some sort of feature to prevent accidental touches, if you know what I mean. Has anyone else experienced this? There is no issue when holding it normally in my hand.

I just tried it...yeah, it happens on mine as well. I guess it has to do with the curved back no biggie. I normally lay it down on my wallet with Skip inside. So I have never even noticed this
Yeah, not really much of a concern for me either. Just curious if others had experienced it or if anyone knew why it happened. Interesting idea with the skip/wallet setup.

Good to know it's not just mine. Did you have a screen protector on when you tried this?

Yes, actually. I have the thick shock protection sold on the Motorola site. I have been meaning to test it without but have been waiting to get a new protector to replace it however. I really don't like this protector and hope the touch sensitivity gets better once it's gone. I have just been lazy in looking for a new one.
I cannot detect any loss in sensitivity when my phone is laying on my desk. I am not using a screen protector at all.

No problems pulling down the notification bar? Also can you try installing the following app and drawing lines from the center of the screen all the way up to the top of the screen? Does the line go all the way up or does it end slightly before the edge of the touchscreen?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=proscio.app.nickypaint&hl=en
Thanks.
Yep noticed this as well. Mainly on the home button. Back and recents seem responsive enough, but if it's laying on my desk or floor, home is almost non-existent. Gets to be pretty frustrating.

No problem with the notification bar at all. I tried it all along the top, it works perfect every time, fast or slow movement makes no difference.
Might try the app later but I just gave it another good test and it performed perfectly, even if I barely touch the screen.
Yeah... Mine is fine too. No screen protector.

It happens every once and a while. I got a otterbox self healing screen protector
Just tried it on mine with no screen protector and I am getting the same as the OP.
It's funny because usually I sit it flat while I am on the couch - must be the soft surface and the curved back which means it works fine, but you're right on the hard table surface it's noticeable.
I really want the Dot View case for this phone. Did anyone mange to get their hands on one and dicovered that they don't like it? Why don't youlike it and would you sell it?
I just got it today and I absolutely love it! The only thing I don't like is, when you flip it back then its a little slippery! But thats all! It fits great and just looks great on the phone!

I have mixed feelings about it. When I bought my HTC One from Verizon, I was told that they weren't going to have the Dot View cases in stock for at least a month or two due to the high demand of them. Because of this, I picked up the Incipio Black Feather Case. Funny enough, the next day after buying I get a phone call from Verizon saying they got a single dot view case in being held for me. The case itself feels incredibly cheap. While it definitely feels like it can protect my screen, the backing of the case feels just like a cheap plastic. For the cost of the case, I was expecting something a little bit better in the build quality.
As for the case itself, its too gimmicky for me for the time being. It only works with default HTC apps. I use a different SMS app (Sliding Messenger Pro) and the Gmail app for my email. Neither of these are supported by the dot view case. I've tried googling around to see if there's a work around for these or a separate dot view app that allows these but have yet to find anything. The only thing I could use the case for was the time, answering phone calls, voice dialing, and changing my volume. I really wanted to be able to see my sms / email notifications on screen.
Im also not a fan of the folding case in general yet. I'm not used to the folding and I often text with one hand so it makes it rather awkward to try and hold the case open in order to text.
I don't know though.. if I could use my own SMS / Gmail apps with it instead of the default HTC ones, I might want to use it again. Until then, its going to sit on my desk unused.

I have been using the HTC Dot View case for about 2 weeks now. Here are some simple pros and cons
Pros:
Look...Seamless and perfect compliment to the M8
Feel...plastic and rubber that seems like a good build
Protection...Fully covers screen with rubber "dot" flap and plastic back wraps the back and corners of the metal body of the phone
Alerts...Easy to read 8 bit type text and icons (looks great in the dark)
Cons:
Price...I got mine for $50 at an AT&T retail store
Dust/lint...gets trapped in the "dots" find myself using a can of BlowOff keeping it clean
Alert Limitations...can only use the HTC apps with this case
I would recommend if you have $50 to blow. I personally don't like 3rd party accessories so willing to pay for the HTC branded products. I love my DotView case but trying to provide a unbiased opinion.
I just got mine in the mail a week ago. So far, I love it. I just hope that HTC releases updates to allow third party notifications like Gmail, Facebook, etc. I would also really like if they could integrate a music player controls as well. But all in all, it's a great accessory to such an amazing device.
Anyone with a warm black dot view? Is it black or grey? Also if you can post the part number (you can find it on box backcover)
Anyone notice a couple of holes are kind of shiny inside? Like something is on the plastic film that's in the holes. Anyone cleaned theirs yet? Would water and soap be ok?

don't poke or remove the peices in the holes it keeps the stuff off it screen and I just wiped it down with some water it cleans up quite nicely I wouldn't use soap some soaps kill pixels so yah... No glass cleaner either my friend sprayed his with some trying to make it shinier it killed the Nfc tag in it
I think the idea behind the case is solid but its execution is flawed. Mine seems to loose its grip on the top corners as the plastic is too hard and needs a more grippy material. I've swapped 3 cases now. Its been mentioned before about the short hinge not letting the front sit flat on the back. I do love and find the display very useful. Hopefully a third party will be able to remedy the faults.

Overall disappointed. Sure it's a nice case and, feels good in the hand but the hinge on it makes it almost unusable for daily use. If you only open your phone a few times a day it's probably perfect but if you actually need to use the device totally annoying. Will return it.

Yeah! I've tried compressed air and water but the 2 shiny holes remain. They always catch my eye when I glance down and I think I have a notification or something.
Anyone have the "Orange" dot view case? If so, is it really orange, because the images online look more like it's red?

ATM no but it looks like they are working on it. You will also lose Motion Launch and use of the secondary depth camera with CM

Be careful not to drop the phone in this case. Dropped it less than a foot onto the top left edge, left a dent in the black plastic bar on top of the phone.
Next gen Dot View should have a flush foldover. Biggest detractor for me. Love it otherwise...only a matter of time before features are ported to aosp and more functions are added (gapps etc)

May or May not help, I noticed the phone has an Dot View app installed. That may all that is needed to get it working on another ROM. Seems to use a NPC chip. That is what I'm guess is detecting when the case is opened or closed. The HTC on the front lines up with the Small box on the inside.
I willing to sell mine too as holding it with one hand it not an option with this case.
I just got the S-View cover for my Note8. Thing is, the entire front has that rainbow effect. Almost like it is oily or the glue hasn't fully cured.
Even when the screen is turned on behind it (Always-on display), the text looks very blurred. Is this normal?
I can't comment on the problem causing the "rainbow" effect. But yes, the blurriness of the AOD that you described is exactly what I experienced with the S-View case on my S8+.
I really wish that Samsung would resurrect the design of the S-View for Note 5. That was my favorite case of all time.

I had the 4 but it was similar to the 5 in all but the way it attached. I was just saying yesterday that style is still my favorite. Although given recent trends, I wouldn't mind it being covered with alcantara. The soft feel might be a nice change. I miss being able to access the camera with the case closed.
I was looking at refurbished Galaxy Note 8's on eBay and all the sellers list this problem. They have multiple quantities available though so I'm wondering if they just list this to cover themselves in case it has it or do literally all of them have this issue? I have the S8 and I know it has the same type of screen, but I've never had an issue. Is LCD burn also a common problem for the S8 and S8+?
I have my note 8 since Nov 22 2017, and it does not show any burns, shadows or abnormal tint/color anywhere, FYI, it is a LED panel, not LCD

I was wondering the same thing.
Anyway, on topic: I've had mine since about April 2018, which isn't as long as some others, but I also have no discernible burn-in. An issue I do have, however, is that my screen scratches incredibly easily. I have a couple of really bad scratches and some deep ones and I don't do anything funny with my device. It's either laying face-up on the desk or it's in my pocket. Some of the scratches has weird shapes to them that I can't figure out where they even came from or how. Other than that, no other issues or problems. Screen is still clear and very pretty and no strange artefacts.
Screen Burn-In is not really an issue, unless you are gaming or textings for really long periods of time. Or have a picture displayed on your device for over 2 hours.
I have massive amount of burn in of the whole keyboard, and the top of the screen. Irritates me to no end, I have reversed my colors of my keyboard but I doubt that will help
I see a really varying experiences about this issue, it reminds me about another issue with the sides peeling off, some posted very bad peeled sides, specially on black models, in the end I think these occurences might be batch-related, or pure and simple bad luck, my note, as many, many others
is more than a year old and happily does not have any problem whatsoever

That does sound weird haha.
As far as the peeling, when I first got my Note 8, I could feel an unevenness on the sides. Turns out that there was a thin plastic film just like there was on the top and bottom when it came out of the box. I just peeled it off. Is that what you were talking about? I just assumed it was put on at the factory before it was boxed up as like the protective plastic on the screen and back. Was I wrong to peel it off? It didnt seem to affect the finish at all and shortly after that, I put the phone in a case anyway...
The units suffering the peeling problem showed a different color where the peelings occurred,
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/help/peeling-paint-t3689436
my note 8 did not have protective films at the sides, just front and back, and no peelings anywhere so far

Interesting. Thanks for the link. The more I look in the XDA forums, the more I am second guessing my choice on getting this phone. Between the screen burn, the peeling paint, the charging port burning out, mysterious cracks in the screen, etc... I am wondering if I should have done a little more research. So far, knock on wood, this first month has been trouble free and hopefully it stays that way.
And as far as the protective plastic film on the sides, maybe it is a recent change that Samsung is doing? I honestly couldn't see it but could feel it and when I peeled it off, it was perfectly cut out to go around the buttons. One of the posts in the link you provided mentioned a protective film over the colored back glass to provide a better visual look. Maybe that's what I discovered on the side and was supposed to leave it on but I couldn't stand the uneven feel of it before I got the case.
