Hey,
I just signed the petition "Samsung: Please make Exynos open source and help the Android community and it's developers out!" and wanted to see if you could help by adding your name.
Our goal is to reach 100 signatures and we need more support. You can read more and sign the petition here:

No it doesn't lead to anything and if it does those lead to disappointment as even if they'll acknowledge it, you'll get same corporate response like: "we heard your voice, but out engineers and developers know they can provide better support" or whatever.
Petitions don't work it's a fact and no one cares about those anyway.

Haha, nice to hear, but guess what ? history repeats itself
look over here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/fesm-free-exynos-sources-movement-t1925709
being myself an exynos admirer/user for years i really wish it happens this time
It's proprietary software and hardware. Not gonna happen. No incentive for Samsung whatsoever. Stop wasting your time and go plant a tree instead ;D
Never going to happen. If you want custom *ROM* development, buy snapdragon, only option if you're realistic.

LOL, quite funny how 85% says they will buy snapdragon if samsung doesnt open up but according to the thread and poll on this site, exynos is still the favourite
Anyway I've put my money where my mouth is, I've bought a snapdragon even though it's a bit slower in some tests. I don't care about that. I hate touchwiz so much that Exynos is just not an option (I live in an Exynos country so I had to order my snapdragon in the US). And yeah, it feels good to give Samsung the middle finger.

Yeah not buying a Samsung, that would be even better, I'm longing for the day there's a good alternative. An android running stock Android like Nexus but with Samsung quality hardware, that would be the ultimate device and the day I'm kissing samsung really goodbye. And I don't even care about design (Note 4 is ugly already, I dont care).
It's quite sad such a device doesn't exist ...

I find this very curious, since January, I have been very vocal on the Samsung USA Facebook page as well as Twitter about the missing Froyo update. Today I went to check the Facebook page to find that somehow I had lost the ability to post anything.. shortly thereafter, I realized that I no longer "liked" the Samsung USA page. I did not do that myself, Samsung must have had that done (reported me for spamming/abuse?). Perusing the wall posts, I notice a distinct lack of people complaining about the 2.2 update.
I was not abusive, I did not swear or use foul language in any of my posts on that wall. I cracked a few jokes, sure, but nothing that could have been considered over-the-top. In fact, I waited until AFTER the promised "by the end of the year" deadline (promised to me on Twitter by @GalaxySSupport) to even being posting any complaints.
Is this Samsung's damage-control strategy moving forward? To try to stifle public outcry by booting us off of your pages and deleting our posts?

You know this is very interesting as when trying to give the Vibrant a bad review (for the software not the hardware) on their website it will tell you that they are looking for different type of reviews and won't post the bad one.

thats insane. i'm really starting to dislike the samsung brand. buying a new tv soon too to replace my 5 year old samsung
Unless samsung comes out with something AMAZING (honeycomb for my Epic) to make up for all their lack with the galaxy S line, I will never buy another samsung product again.
SO MANY of my tech friends said "samsung does not support their phones, YOU WILL BE UPSET"
As I sit here the audio out ports on both my car and desk docks DO NOT WORK because they haven't released a year old 2.2 froyo.
Looks like my tech friends were right. The only reason my gps works is because of the hard working dev's here......and I have paid them for their work! I feel horrible for all the stock users in the world who have a **** gps thanks to samsung.

Same happened to me with the Captivate on AT&T's website. Except mine was all hardware complaints.
My hardware is perfect
But sadly software is not! Unless they move away from carrier based updates this will be my last Samsung or Android based phone.
Remember Samsung when my phone crashes due to poor or out of date software or can't download something for the same reason I don't see the 3 mobile logo all I see is the Samsung logo.
This is all happening too close to the release of the Galaxy S 2 launch!

Man, same thing happened to me w/ my Epic review. I was pretty honest that i loved the hardware but the software needed updating. Got a message saying my review did not match what they were looking for and was rejected. Pretty easy to have devices w/ 4 and 5 star aggregate scores on your website if you're controlling which reviews you accept samsung.
You guys should take some screenshots of this and send it around to sites like engadget. The more bad press we can get for samsung, the faster we see updates. Worked for the t-mobile guys after they very publicly accused samsung of holding back the update to sell their newer phone.
Hi Guys,
I am also a samsung owner, not the galaxy S series but a phone called the Samsung Spica i5700; not supported by Samsung anymore after they claimed the hardware was not capable to run Android 2.2 froyo, ehh! the devs over at samdroid have ported AOSP and CM builds of 2.2 froyo onto it and are as of now porting AOSP and CM of GB.
the point I have is samsung is pathetic in customer support, all they want is to sell the customers to buy there new devices, and when the samsung #nevergain hashtag was started by an xda member and the hashtag went BOOM into samsung's face they are here to regain some respect, for that they need to prove a point to us, we have already proven them wrong.
I think the way to froyo, is to keep the heat up till they break down and beg to give source away.
everyone should retweet this:

What can I say that has not been said more eloquently by others.
GPS + Froyo for Captivate Update please. As that would make the phone much more desirable and usable, The immediate next thing I am going to do is Ebay that Piece Of S***. Seriously Never going to touch a samsung phone even with a barge pole.
Thank you Samsung for making the Galaxy S brand a pinnacle for quality, support and customer satisfaction.
P.S. I know this has been posted before and does not add ANYTHING, but had to vent.
What the hell is samsungjohn discussing with the xda people? I mean it's been fully 5 days now and absolutely nothing of substance has emerged. What is taking so long? I mean seriously, can someone give an update or something?
Im not really sure theres much to discuss... but yeah, IF the 'hello' part 2 posts WERE the big announcement, it would be nice if the XDA powers that be just posted 'Sorry, thats really all he had to say, he wants to meet devs at a music festival, thats it... he is gone now, go about your business'. I just really hope he doesnt think an 'open dialogue' is a HUGE announcement, and actually has something WE care about. He may just think that was huge because, well its his thing... his job... to us its like, yeah, another source for cut n paste responses... great... oh and one not on FB or Twitter! How convenient!
Whoa! Did this just get moved to 'off topic'???
Wow... its like Samsung Mobile with negative comments!
whatever... Guess its not technically about a phone.

Oh, that's terrible.
http://skattertech.com/2012/03/i-won-the-windows-phone-challenge-but-lost-just-because/
Note: This is also posted on Reddit. Just wanted to get the word out. May be an isolated incident, but in all likelihood, it probably is not.
EDIT: woah dudes, was not me , though I doubt they could beat my epic touch. Found the story and though more people would like to know.
Like WTF dude ?
MS people are in general some arrogant kids (my opinion).
I smoked the Lumnia 800 with my SGS2 at work, and the lumnia 800 owner got cocky and started accusing me of cheating and hacking, he actually got totally "off-topic" with me, I guess it was "just-because"
That confirmed, once again to me, that most MS Phone owners are narrow minded, not open to other possibilities, and well, don't want to hear about other platforms, not even try them out, even if there are hard proof of the other platform being better
And yeah, MS challenges, they make their own rules as-they-go it seems, I've been in a similar contest, won it by the rules, but lost because my phone was rooted (ran stock 2.3.5 rom on SGS2 with root wich was laggy compared to 4.0.3)
Just my thoughts out loud
Bad ploy by that location and I hope that manager gets in trouble for breaking policy. That was a stupid challenge for them to use honestly. I love wp7 but I'm not afraid to admit that they are wrong here.
Honestly they should have given you the prize, or even a second shot at it. They cannot leave it at "just because"....
They're a global brand and their reasoning is that of a 5 year old....
Goes right along with some biased, anti-android PR MS has been spreading over the past few months. Their plan was stack the odds as they obviously couldn't just give out laptops left and right, but as you won by their own rules the refusal to pay out is ridiculous.
You're a nicer guy than I am though; I would have called up the local news channels consumer reporters and gotten a crew down there asap, or at least tried, just loudly enough that all the customers in the store can hear. They could give me my prize then, or they could do it later after their store gets some bad press that I'm sure would make its way up the chain until someone a bit higher found out. Heck, maybe the manager decides to call the cops because you're making a "scene." "Customer Arrested at Microsoft Store for Trying to Claim Prize;" would have been worth it
Any, as someone mentioned on the blog the $1000 they saved on the laptop--less considering its value versus price--will not be offsetting the negative press this generates by word of mouth. Sucks you got the shaft like that.
I felt like I struck gold since I knew I already had two weather widgets on my home screen

I don't know if thats was allowed or not. The MS people could also put live Tiles at the Home screen but they didn't.
Well, I have mixed opinions here. In a way, you actually won as no one mentioned about the home screen widgets and if they (either you or MS) have already put it in the home screen but on the other hand, this contest should be like display weather of 2 GIVEN cities, more like searching it.

I think this issue doesnt necessarily reflect badly on the Windows Phone OS, it does reflect badly on the employees.

When the rules are not clear there is always room for interpretation.
I dont think he did anything wrong by reducing the security if it wasnt stated that as a specific requirement.
I do agree with you that MS can capitalise on this by saying that you need to reduce your security in order to beat their phone.
As I said, both OSs are getting publicity, what they make of it depends on how they turn it around and yours is a good idea actually!

Would be funny, but I still think the OP should get the prize, since he actually beat WP fair and square (even if he removed a security feature). It is actually MS's fault if they didnt lay down the rules to begin with
It would be a win-win
He gets the phone and the bragging rights (which he already has anyway) and MS/WP gets lots of publicity.

How much more secure is having a lockscreen that you touch or slide to unlock vs simply having to power on the phone? It's not as though the Windows phone was password or Pin secured.

We here at xda are tinkerers and perfectionists. We care about esoteric things like benchmarks and measure load times by the millisecond. The slightest hitch and we can't sleep at night for the nightmares of lag monsters and stutter beasts. We flash the newest rom just to flash something new and risk burning our expensive toys up overclocking them until they BSOD.
But you know that the reality is we enthusiasts make up a tiny part of the market for this tablet. Read the reviews of everyday users at retail sites and they are THRILLED with the gorgeous screen, speed and functionality of this new marvel. They regularly comment that the Tab S is THE BEST tablet they have ever used...period. Most of them even like Touchwiz, god forbid.
And you know what? Samsung doesn't make tablets for us here at xda, it makes them for Joe The Jackhammer Operator and Suzy Homemaker. It makes them for average folks who would sooner watch paint dry as spend 5 minutes arguing technological nuance at xda.
So yeah, the Tab S isn't perfect (what is?) but for the folks it is designed for it's pretty damned close.
Although you have to be a techno geek to even be aware of and consider buying the expensive Tab S.

Edit: also can't forget the great battery life I have gotten so far on 10.5
Using Chrome Beta and this tweak (chrome://flags/#max-tiles-for-interest-area = 512) for my web browsing, mostly.

Lol wow. You've pretty much gotten to the point where every post you make breaks a list of forum rules. Oh well, I sort of expected that.
Anyway, like I said, don't believe your lying eyes or the thousands of glowing reviews from owners across the web. The Tab S sucks, xRevilatioNx said so and he has benchmarks to prove it! Try to ignore that he constantly contradicts himself claiming that the Asus is both much faster than the Tab S and just as "slow" - he can't seem to decide based upon the argument he is trying to make.
So xRev, there is the vast majority that thinks the Tab S is fast and fantastic and then there's you. Funny, was at the BestBuy website earlier reading post after post about how fast the Tab S is, and then there was just one post talking about how laggy and stuttering it was. I thought, my god, xRev finally gave his BestBuy review! A 1 star review in a sea of 5 star feedback.
The Tab S is an amazing piece of hardware held back only by Touchwiz and in part what I believe are security protocols they implement (you are aware Touchwiz implements security right?). Regardless, most folks love Touchwiz and most people is who Samsung cares about.
P.S., xRev, I think you're lost. Shouldn't you be cheerleading over at the Asus website? And oh, the javascript thread? I won that debate. As soon as you started calling names and using contradictory "evidence" it was over.
Yay Tab S!

@ Rev, do you own the Tab S? If so, why since you consider it abysmal? If not, why are you here?
If you read comments from actual owners at retail sites you will see that you are in a very small minority of those who consider this device "abysmal". Most feel this is the best tab they've ever owned. Oh well, as I said why don't you leave those of us who enjoy the fine Tab S alone and go back to your Asus forum?
WHY are you here?
Guys, it's bad enough that you both are ruining the discussion for the rest of us in one topic, but now you're ruining it in others. i think samsung hardly gives sales figures of their tablets if at all, but im assuming part of it could be because the availability of the tablet is not that wide yet at least here in the middle east

Well just made it in from work to hear that samsung is officially discontinuing the Note 7. So what does that mean for us. My favorite phone has went up in smoke (literally)...
I'm upset to. Best phone I ever used by far. Hopefully they rebrand it with the issues worked out and release it along with the s8 in march/april. To wait another 10 months for a new note would be ridiculous. That is if they even decide to keep the note line(which I hope).
Can someone cite an official source at Samsung? The media is jumping all over it, but nobody can give a credible source, and Sammy still says it's temporarily halted production.

Thanks,

I wasn't disagreeing with you, just posting what I'd found so far and the wording that was used, indicating why it was confusing. Hopefully Sammy will respond to my Inqiury.. Here is what I sent them:

Good email....I think sammy is trying to give room to wiggle a bit...but let be honest with ourselves, sammy trying to serve the world government and corporations...it is in their best interest to halt production before releasing another set of batch....if v3 goes kaboom as well, they are done as a company.
Does this mean no Nougat for the one's who hold onto their notes?

Assuming this is really the EOL for the Note7, then expect zero updates in the future.... except maybe to disable it for 'safety' reasons..

Exactly. They aren't going to support a phone, with any updates, that they've discontinued. That would only encourage people to keep it and increase their liability.
Lol Verizon is letting me keep my note 7 and refunding me and making me eligible for another upgrade.. Got it for free...

You better have that in writing, and in recording lol. My mama always said nothing is free in this world...you will pay for it one way or another. And no, Money is not the only currency lol
Sammy probably going to release an update to give you a paper lol
Samsung hasn't officially done anything and everyone needs to calm down. "The Verge" isn't Samsung.
In comments section, everyone can add what they want for the future Note8. Hopefully for once, Samsung will hear their customers wishes:

Unless it comes with a removable and replaceable battery for starters then it is a no and no thank you from me.
So you can tell them this.

Who are you kidding? Wake up, if you really think creating a petition like this is gonna make samsung change their mind on their product cycle, then you seriously need some help, i am being realistic & you should be too.

And just what is their mind? Geez, you are taking this way to seriously. I take is a opinion poll which can't hurt. I have personally gotten a reply in the past from quite high up in Samsung leadership to one little email. So they see these things. Who cares if they don't change their mind this time. They might see a trend and reconsider it for future lines or wahtever. You don't have to waste your precious time and internet data, I for one think it is worth a try. Others might too.
A more realistic approach is if they can opt to make a Galaxy Note 4S. Same dimension as the Note 4 but with current spec and a decent fingerprint scanner. Sort of like how Apple did with the SE.
Ahahahahhaa
Petition.. loooooool
