Does the Qi wireless charging back cover support fast charging?

Dude create ONE thread and put all your questions their...,seriously though I see like 5 threads created by you cluddring up the forums

Sorry I thought this was the questions forum. And I'm asking questions.... didn't realize my threads were cluttering up the forum.
(By the way, you should turn on spell check)

Obviously you can ask all the questions you want. It's an open community dude do as you must

I would probably say no. From my understanding, fast charging is there because the charger packaged with the phone supports a much higher output and the phone can take advantage of it. The only way to get that same speed through a wireless charger would be to find one that matches the output of the stock wall charger.

No. Many are only 1 amp output. It's already warm to the touch with 1amp, if it was to suck down 2+ amps it would probably blow up!!! ...Just kidding.

I think the fast charger is 2 amps

The fast charging is so amazing, it would be hard to go back to slower charging...with or without wires. [emoji6]

fast charging is 9v when below 50%. As far as i know all Qi chargers are 5v.
I doubt it supports fast charging or that you can find one that does.

I like to mess with my phone in my bed so it's not easy plugging a charger in when the room is dark. lol Fast charging is nice and I might still use it from time to time. I just hate wires.

Stopped Charging at 41%

So I was gearing up to charge my N7 for the first time so I decide to leave it plugged in over night.
I wake up and I find that the screen is on and "Charging 41%" is flashing on the screen.
Anyone experience this yet?

Are you able to turn it on and run the device?
Play with it a while and see if things improve or get worse.
Were you using the OEM charger AND cable? The $1 chinese cable I used with the OEM charger had mine charging to 100% in 16 hours +
Make sure you are using the OEM Charger & Cable.
Also make sure you use the mains and not a USB port, I tried using a USB port on my mains and charging was like 1% per 30 mins, plugged it directly via the AC adapter in and started going up 1% per min.
I am using the charger that came with my Nexus One at the moment. It seems to work fine with all my other phones, does the N7 need more power or something?

It's not irrelevant. It means the 2A charger can source up to 2 amps if needed (which obviously it does need).
A tablet has a lot bigger battery and draws more current then a phone, which is why it has a bigger charger. If the charger can't source enough current to overcome the rate that the device uses power, then it won't charge or will take forever.

You know what.. I confused this thread with another. My bad. Not irrelevent.
BUT.. 1 amp is more than enough to charge an N7. My old 700ma rated Blackberry charger can charge it from 0-100% in under 8 hours.

The stock 2A charger does it in about 3 hours and change from full drain power down to full charge.
Both of you are right, not the irrelevant part mind you but the part that it is enough and it may not be.
It all depends on what the tablet is doing at charging time. If it is off and the leakage current is low (as it should be) then most any 5v transformer will do. It will just take longer to charge.
HOWEVER if the transformer is not able to feed the N7 with more current than it needs to operate, on or off, sorry it won't work, no charging for you.
Now shake hands and go play outside.

No problem. I didn't mean to get snippy either, but I'm having a sh*tty day. ..To get back on topic, being an amateur radio operator, I have to have a little knowledge on electronic theory. My original response wasn't really to debate whether 1A is actually enough to charge an N7. My post to the OP was pointing out that he is in fact using a charger rated at half the amps of the rated charged of the N7, for whatever the reason it isn't working, and it also seems instead of trying the correct charger, he came directly in here.

The transformer is a source. It doesn't feed or force, it gives what is demanded by what it connected to it, as long as it's not over what it can handle (2A max rating) - in which case the coils of the transformer will get hot, possibly melting off the clear enamel insulation of the coils until you get a short and sparks flying out of your outlet, and pop a surge protector (hopefully)
edit: well unless it has some over_current protection built into it, or a fuse, in which case it would just die and not charge anymore
edit2: But as just lou said, try the correct charger.
Another problem from using too low of a current transformer is you could put too much stress on it, and then it's voltage regulation circuits don't keep a nice clean steady voltage, and instead you could get spikes or noise, and that could lock up your device too. Of course this is just all possibilities, but to rule out variables it's just easier to use the correct charger
If the Nexus tablet requires 2 amps, then it will pull upto 2 amps. If it's doing this from a 1 amp supply, then the 1 amp power supply will overheat and possibly break. Amps can be larger than needed, but make sure voltage is correct.

Non removable battery

I'm surprised to see not much talk of this, as for me it's the biggest hang up with this awesome device (second is no sd slot). I find it extremely handy to have a removable battery because 1) I don't have to worry about being super careful about how I treat the battery as replacements are usually fairly cheap and 2) it opens up the possibility of larger 3rd party batteries. What's everyone's thoughts on this?
Sent from my 3VO
Oh there has been PLENTY of talk about this.
That's the trend, removal batteries are going bye bye. Whether it's removal or not, the important question is whether or not it is possible at all to get at the battery slot. Have to watch a few tear down videos.
The iPhone 4/4s didn't have a removable battery either per say... yet you could easily do it yourself.

this is a make or break issue for me aswell. Will the wireless charging orb hold a charge so I can put it in my bag when im travelling and connect it with n4 without the need for any sockets?
if not are there any third party softwares that can allow something small which can recharge battery without any connections?
thanks

No, the inductive charger must be plugged into the wall. The only benefit of an inductive charger is not having to make any physical connection to the phone every time you charge.

Apple boasts about new Lightning connector. Google took it to the next step - no.cable.
Hands down.
lighting port was just such a terrible idea. -_-
We will have to see what real life battery life is like.
2100mha battery does not last a full day now. I tend to swap if I'm using my phone during work and need to use it at night.
Nothing mentioned in all the fancy features about awesome battery life....
Although not being able to remove the battery is annoying, I say introducing inductive charging to the Nexus line makes up for some of it.
too bad you still have to plug it in to transfer info to a computer. For that, I like the lightning port. Micro usb is annoying and so so fragile.

I know what you mean, but for some files depending on the size of them I have started to use bluetooth file transferring.
This is a huge concern for me as well. Spare batteries are cheap and you never have to worry about your phone dying.
However, the price is too good to pass up considering how it looks and the amazing specs it has.
Not to mention, on jellybean, my phones battery life has been phenomenal.

Best solution for batteries that die out during the day's usage? Buy a second Nexus 4! You know, since they're so cheap and all.
No battery removable battery and no sd card tells me hmmm maybe but its still designed by LG. Thats what i really hate. But at that price. I may buy it and use it as an ipod touch lol

Nokias wireless charger works with all phones that have NFC, looks like i will be buying that then!
From what I've seen wireless charging is presently a bit dodgy anyway, perhaps Sony are just waiting for the tech to settle down a bit before introducing it. I don't think I'll be going for wireless charging with my N4 any time soon.

I don't think so. It has NFC so that you can launch a task when you put your phone to charge, but it's still based on the Qi wireless charging spec which means the phone has to be compatible too.

@OP: Why would you want wireless charging in the first place? It's just a gimmick it might be nice to have but, when you don't have it you won't miss it either way.
Same with 3d also a gimmick, we can live perfectly without 3d movies etc. Even though 3d movies can be quite nice to see.

wireless charging is not comfortable for daily uses
I had a Droid DNA and hated the wireless charging. For one you have to pay upwards of $25-$50 for a wireless charging pad, charging takes several times longer, the phone/battery get hot while using it, which will probably lead to shortened battery life, and it's not like you can use your phone while wireless charging since if it moves more than a few millimeters off the pad it stops, versus wired where you are limited only to the length of the wire.
Isnt wireless charging jsut putting the phone on a "dock"? Like my cordless phone? or the old nokia's where u had to put it on a charging dock? Ppl behave as those it is sending microwaves to your phone within a certain radius and the phone magically charges...and if it were like that I would be afraid of nuking my insides lol

Exactly my thought. It's wireless, but you have to put your phone on a mat... i really prefer putting my phone on a dock, and the one for Xperia Z is very good because there is no "port" that might go loose with time, just two metal pins that are touching the charger pins.
For those in doubt - here is the dock Sony will release to go with this phone - Not quite wireless charging but nearly. Having seen this it has convinced me to get the phone - the thought of fiddling with the port covers in the dark every night to conect the charger was putting me off (my gf goes to bed before me so I can't put the light on).

I see that I probably should have added the phrase "That is my opinion" to my post. :silly:
My logic is that the adaptive fast charger originally came with the GS6 and thus it's designed by the same OEM for that exact model. You could argue that the adaptive charger that came with the Note 4 should be the same one. It actually is not. The Note 4's is based on Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0 technology, while the GS6's is a different standard, mainly because it's not rocking a Qualcomm chip anymore.
My point is that it's definitely a safer bet to use accessories that came with the phone or claim compatibility with it. I'm not stopping anyone from doing what they want with their chargers, but I would just caution you to do a bit of research first to make sure what you're doing will not damage that $800 marvel we put our money in.
Just my opinion, of course. :good:

Wireless charging with Otterbox Defender?

Hello all
Just got a Note 5 the other day and put it in a Otterbox Defender case as with the environments I work in I have to have something to this level.
Am still hoping I can use the wireless charging though and just wonder if anyone else has tried it with this kind of a setup.
Thanks for any help.
It works with the standard Samsung wireless charger. It has to be lined up just right though

So...lined up?
Where it the sweat spot?
Is there anything the tells me if I don't have it in the right spot?
Also should have posted this on the OP, but does it charge slower with having it in the Otterbox?
Can any give me a general estimate for how long with it say from 10-15%?
Could it be as much as 5-6 hours?
Thanks

Just move it up and down slowly until you feel the vibration and the animation plays. AFAIK, wether you go naked or use a case, the wireless charging speed is the same. I can say that I ever tested it myself. Wireless charging is inherently slower than standard USB charging.
I use wireless ever morning when I go to bed, so I don't really time it. All I know is its fully charged when I wake up after about 4 hours and I put it on when it's around 60%
Cool thanks so much for the help.

Thanks for the heads up.
Before I read this I bought the CHOE QI Fast Charge which was about the same price.
In looking at the specs, its rated at 10w max, while the Pleson is 13.5.
I know ratings can be what they can be, but I did buy the CHOE to try an if it works was going to get two more as I need that many.
So if it all goes OK perhaps will try the Pleson instead and see if its better.
Thanks for the help
