All was working fine this morning then in the afternoon plugged in my headphones (I have the Sony Noise Cancelling headphones made to work with the Z3) and they were not recognized.
Got home, plugged in another pair and not working.
Tried the earbuds that came with the phone and also not working.
Did some research, cleared cache and data of Smart Connect app but no change.
Did a factory reset, still not working.
Updated Smart Connect and got headphone sound but it was VERY quiet. The phone was picking up the headphones as a headset.
Finally, downloaded the third part app Soundabout and I can connect my regular (non-noise cancelling) headphones if I let that program override the phone settings.
So, seems this is not a hardware issue but a software issue? Can't seem to find any info about this anywhere else besides a couple of forums on the sonymobile site, but doesn't offer a fix that is working for me.
Advice or tips?
got worse...
And now the headphones are VERY quiet even when using the Soundabout app...

When I play music with headphones on it comes through the headphones + the speaker on the phone..
I assume something is wrong, Ive tried two different sets of headphones and same results, made sure its pushed in all the way etc....
is my phone faulty? or I am doing something dumb?
cheers
the same happens with bluetooth, but it is only for MEDIA sounds
the actual phone call will get only routed to the bluetooth headset/car
i think it's a bug in the software, that it forgets to turn off the phone speaker when something else is connected
Are you running froyo beta?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
No, why? is it fixed in froyo?
It is a pretty nasty bug... can't listen to music quietly anywhere..
Huh? It's fine here..
Which firmware are you using.. Maybe something is corrupt..
I'm using xfjm5, anyone else see this issue or should i say hear this issue?
@allgamer, do you get this with headphones too? or just with bluetooth?
Btw, are you using VOIP.. Because voip might cause issues (as well as some other programs, or sound quality hacks).
Is that JG5 version a pre-release or official release?
I'm using JM5 atm and I don't have that issue with the headphones or the bluetooth stereo headset. I only seem to have that problem when I'm using the bluetooth headset and the Copilot nav. The instructions from the nav come through both headset and speaker
From my Galaxy S loonie-phone
I have the same problem. But it used to work fine. My phone has frozen while I tried to connect my bluetooth car kit (parrot mki 9200) and I had to perform a factory reset. Since this time, Media sounds plays through the speaker and the bluetooth headset at the same time.
My firmware version is : I9000XXJG1
I hope it will be fixed in the final froyo firmware.

and i'm on JH2
I don't the issue. It should not happen.

I think its a bug in firmware, I had it happen a few times when I receive call while listening to music, After call the music plays on speaker even with headphones on. I just unplug head phones and plug it back in and it goes away. Havn't had it happen since I moved to JM8 from I think JM1
Hello,
I'm believe i'm currently running Cyanogen Mod 7.1 on the LG 2X.
I've had no problems with the mod, everything was running smoothly then one day, out of the blue, the music was no longer working properly out of the headphones.
The best way I can describe is it as tho you are listening to music under water. The music of the songs play, but when the artist sings, their voice is sort of tinny, and doesn't play properly.
Another strange thing is that when I listen to the radio via an app, it works fine. A little quiet, but it is still clear.
I've had a fiddle with the settings on the music player, but nothing seems to change. I've tried a variety of music players and the problem still occurs.
I've been to 2 technicians and neither of them know what the problem is. They don't believe it is something to do with the hardware, more an internal issue.
I just really want to get this issue sorted, because it's very frustrating when I want to listen to music when travelling etc.
Please help, I'd really appreciate it.
P.S My phone will no longer connect to the computer. When I plug it in via USB, it doesn't pop up on the computer, and only shows a charging icon on the phone. If someone could help fix this i'd also be greatful.
Thanks guys.
For the audio problem, check the DSP manager app.
For the USB problem, check if you have USB debug on. (I think you have to look at Settings->applications->development.)
Have you tried different headphones?
I have a similar problem when using my Sony Ericsson headphones on the LG. It seems the 3.5 mm jack is somehow different. So when I use the SE set, I hear the voice distantly, echoed and so on. And its definitely not from the software.

I also have this problem with my sony ericsson headphones, I have to press real hard on the jack so I can hear properly, so I just use the headphones that came with the LG instead...
I have a problem with my unrooted Xperia Z with a locked bootloader. My main speaker does not work for any media like music games or videos, but works fine for loudspeaker calls. Also the earpiece speaker doesnt work at all. Another problem i found was that my microphone would not work at all unless it was in a call and i was using loudspeaker. The final problem is that when ever i plug in my earphones, google now pops up and sometimes my phone starts playing music automatically throught the earphones, when i remove the earphones, instea of stopping the music continues but the speakers dont work so it just keeps playing them silently. If anyone knows the soultion to this, please respond as ive searched everywhere and i have not found one solution yet.
UPDATE: i used the application soundabout to reroute the audio and the calls are now fine, the only problem is that when i plug in my earphones the google now problem persists. If i plug in earphones with a mic, i dont get any of these problems and everytime i want to use my internal speaker for media, i have to manually re-route the audio to them. Anybody know a solution to these 2 problems?
I do have the exact same problem, I tried different ROMs and Audio Mods (at the moment I've got a stock ROM) without any change.
Did you somehow fix it?
Exact same problem, i run stock android 5.1.1 build 10.7.A.0.222 locked boot loader. Problem suddenly came up last week during vacation, quite some time after I did OTA upgrade to 5.1.1 - so this is not related to ROM updates.
After installing soundabout (thanks for the hint) the rerouting did not work immediately - i had to set phone to earpiece and media to speaker in the app and reboot for it have an effect.
I think the root cause is, the phone thinks there are headphones connected, when there really aren't. If I use the UKW radio app, it starts and shows headphones as output-icon right away - it should actually complain that there is no reception without phones because the antenna (headphone cable) is missing. Since it doesn't complain I guess that's the culprit.
Any hints how to fix that, without using a rerouting app? (kinda stupid, using bluetooth speakers and so on now needs a manual setting change in soundabout).
I have that phone for more than 2 years now and used headphones maybe twice with it, so a busted headphone-jack is out of the question too.
Guys give it a try.
Thanks Ess Arr, that really works!
So I am having some problems with headphones and my Z3 Compact.
Some time ago my headphones (NOCS NS500 android version) stopped working. Phone wasn't detecting when they are plugged in. I thought that headphones them self got somehow damaged. But they work fine with my pc and tablet.
Headphones that came with the phone work just fine.
After some google'ing I made my NOCS work again with soundabout, but controls don't work, NOCS app for that doesnt work either.
So the question is - is there a way to fix this? So that my phone sees these headphones as Sony headphones?
Thanks
P.S. I did go through general part of the Z3C forum and used search didn't find anything helpful So I am sorry if this was already asked and answered.
Hello,
I just started having problems playing audio from my 2013 Moto X (XT1060 stock KitKat 4.4.4 on Verizon) to my car (2010 Ford Escape with Sync). Bluetooth is working, because I can make and receive a phone call through the car. I just can't get any audio to play, from apps like Google Play Music and BeyondPod. It looks like it is playing in the app because the time slider moves through the track. But no sound comes out of the car speakers or the phone speaker. Headphones work fine, and out of the car when not connected to bluetooth, the audio will play through the phone speaker. It also works with a little bluetooth speaker I have, so I know bluetooth audio does work.
Things I've tried:
Unpair the phone from the menu in the car, then re-pair.
Unpair from the phone, then re-pair.
Reboot the phone (multiple times).
Checked the bluetooth settings for Sync. Under "profiles" both "Phone audio" and "Media audio" are listed and both are checked.
The only recent change that I can think of that might have affected is that I paired my phone yesterday to my new Amazon Echo. Then today no audio in the car. So I also un-paired the Echo, and even removed the Echo app from my phone. But still no audio working in the car.
Any ideas of anything else I can try? Is there some system app that needs to have it's cache and/or data cleared? The only other thing I can think of would be to factory reset my phone, but I hate to go there. It would be a major PITA to get my phone set up again. When I get back home tonight, I'll try it in my wife's car, which also has Sync.

Update: I tested it with Sync in my wife's 2014, and it works fine. Makes me think it's more a problem with the Sync system in my car, rather than my phone.

Yes it was something to do with Sync. I went to syncmyride.com, and found an update to the Sync software in my car. So I went through the process of downloading it to a flash drive, and updating the system. And now I can stream audio over bluetooth again.
After the update loaded, it said it was rebooting the system, which took a long time, like 10 minutes. Which makes me wonder if I had been able to force it to reboot, if that might have solved my problem without the need to update. I'm pretty sure it has never done a full reboot like that since I first bought the car back in '10.
Oh well, it works now and I'm a happy android again. Just thought I'd leave this here in case it helps someone else in the future.
