XT1064 Global Bands Unlock? - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Any way we can unlock global hspa bands on XT1064 similar to Moto G 2013 XT1032?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/unlock-hspa-bands-moto-g-1700mhz-xt1032-t2878441
I would like to activate 2100 for Asian countries.
Thanks in advance.

Moved to correct forum

Any insights?

zoomingrocket,
Did you find any more information on this? I bought an xt1064 on the mistaken data up on gsmarena that the US GSM version supported 2100 in addition to 1700, but now it turns out that it doesn't. I'm no longer in the US, so I can't exchange it. I've searched around for other ways to activate the 2100 band on the xt1064 but haven't found anything. Have you? Have you tried the steps in the link you posted?
Thanks.

Update
For anyone interested, I did go through the steps in the OP's link on my xt1064, with the exception of step 34 which explicitly requires root (mine is not rooted yet, running 5.0.1), and it did NOT unlock the 2100 band for me. So either the tweak isn't effective without root or the radio simply does not support the 2100 band. zoomingrocket, I noticed that you asked in the other thread if root was necessary for it to work. So it sounds like you're in the same situation as I am. I also searched the longer thread (the one not specific to moto G) for anyone who got it to work without root, but I didn't find anything definite. I'm hesitant to try to root now since some people have been having problems doing it on the xt1064, but according to this thread ChainFire has ordered an xt1064 to try to work on a stable root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/development/xt1064-lollipop-root-t2938051/page11. If you do root it by the other method and try unlocking the band, it would be great if you'd post the results, whether the 2100 band works or not (and I'll do the same if I decide to root either now or after there's a more stable root method). Still holding out hope that it's not a hardware limitation. Thanks!

hi,
well i tried this on mine 1064 model, i was able to add additional bands and remove some, leading to successfully disable sim card to work etc...
re-flashing stock firmware helps with fixing it.
But i still did not enable 3G on mine phone.
...
can anybody with 1063 model and some spare time, follow OP and just post screenshots of enabled bands on his phone... pretty please :fingers-crossed:

@mattiawhite, @khawaja00, @zoomingrocket,
I am facing the same problem with XT1064 which I brought from US and only 3G band 2100MHz in use in Sri Lanka where I am living.
1. Were your attempts successful on unlocking 2100MHz band on XT1064 ?
2. Hope it is not a hardware limitation.
I am quite new to this and can someone please put down the steps to unlock bands on XT1064 .
Thanks!

I'm stuck at #8.
I start "QPST Configuration" and don't see my device there. Any advice on this matter?
'Motorola QC Diag Port' is installed properly as described in given links.

Gsmarena and all sites on the web say moto G 2014 support 2100mhz band.
But why doesn't it work in Asian countries which use 2100mhz band?

Did anybody tried this and make it work?
I want to have 3g connection in Europe on my XT1064...

[Q] Carrier support deficiency syndrome

After doing several searches on the Moto X forum, I have only found one thread that even mentions my carrier which is C Spire, or Cspire, or C-Spire which ever way it would be listed. The MotoX is fairly new to Cspire which may explain the lack of activity. Cspire uses a XT1049 model on the Lte network. The rooting threads that I've seen seem to be carrier specific or at least ask you to download a carrier specific apk. I am on 4.2.2 now and my system version is 139.4.3.ghost_row.ACGLTE.en.US. My build number is13.9.0Q2.X-191-TA-3. I have rooted 4 other android devices, but none of the others stressed carrier specific root methods. I am only looking to root my device not unlock the bootloader at this time. Am I reading to much into my problem? Thanks for any responses.
Add lte frequencies
From the CSpire website the phone operates on these frequencies: LTE 1900 MHz; CDMA 850/1900 MHz
is your model the same as any of the other major carriers? then it should be a similar method right?

Rooting shouldn't change the radio should it. Really I don't know why it would matter. Somebody please explain.
Cspire runs on Sprint's network.

Unlock Lte bands on MOTO Maxx ???

hi
i read some threads here on Xda that some people where able to unlock some LTE bands on smarphones with Qualcom processors.
i want to know if this is possible on Moto Maxx.
here in Europe we need band 7 and 20 to works for LTE and the band 20 it s not suported on MOTO MAXX.
thanks
Nope. Moto Maxx is as band unlocked as your gonna get.
Want crazy LTE flexibility, without an iPhone........
Nexus 6 is your only choice.
wil the moto maxx work on verizon?
So Europe is a no go. What about Verizon here in the US?
Someone would have to try, but it is dangerous and for the more experienced... for the qualcomm devices what I understand is that one can enable the various bands that can be enabled but this doesn't mean they can be used due to hardwares. In most of the cases I've read about, only a few bands on average are able to be enabled (nothing is guarenteed, but some claims of call, sms, etc). It would be interesting to know what bands on the moto maxx are disabled (not advertised and probably not even usable harware-wise, but interesting none the less).
I searched around and read a bit but for others who are curious- these are from various devices fora: http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/thread-progress-please-leave-im-updating-t2871269

No, you can't bring a non Verizon phone to Verizon. The only method to do so is illegal and it is against forum rules to discuss it here.

That isn't 100% true.
Nexus 6 anyone? Nothing illegal there.
OK, using this guide and the numbers from the NV calculator, I enabled all the LTE bands I wanted.
In case anyone is wondering this value will "theoretically" enable band 12 and the other ones listed below on the OPO
LTE:Band 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 19, 20, 21

So, I changed the value and after reboot it kept the new value.
As the Moto Maxx was being tested to be the Nexus 6 as late as mid-August, it has the same capabilities of the Nexus 6 (including Qi wireless charging, which is VERY unusual on a Moto phone). Thus it can also handle T-mobile's LTE band 12 just like the Moto Maxx, not that it matters. It was LTE band 5 (for AT&T) I was more worried about. When this phone with this same FCC ID number went through the FCC it had LTE band 5 enabled, but when sold in Puerto Rico (U.S. territory) with this same FCC ID number, LTE band 5 was no longer present but LTE band 3 was enabled.
Now they are all enabled.
So, yeah, I wouldn't buy a phone without that capability.
But then, I also wouldn't buy a phone where I couldn't unlock the bootloader and root, either.
The above procedure will work on most any Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset phone from a major manufacturer. Most manufacturers use the same hardware across the world, but use software lockdown to only enable certain bands for specific carriers. If you are rooted, you can use available software to unlock those bands.
Here's something similar for the Samsung Galaxy S5:

Awesome ChazzMatt!
I have a Moto Maxx on the way and am eager to try this. In the S5 tutorial, a custom kernel is mentioned as being required. Is that the case for the Moto Maxx? I'm not even sure if one exists yet...

There's 3 tutorials floating around, for Qualcomm Snapdragon. One is more general, the other two focus on the specific phones. They all at first focus on QPST which is 2G and 3G bands. Two of the three tutorials then also mention QXDM for LTE bands. One of the tutorials , which specifically discusses QXDM/LTE, as an addendum has a FILE you first flash in recovery that lets you make changes needed. This is the guide I followed for the latter steps.

LTE Tutorial (yet another addendum for OP)
Here I tried to make a step by step compilation of all you need to unlock LTE bands in OP style.
Introduction:
Since OP, we got bads and goods, all NV write ability are belong to CM, for great justice, dlhxr took off every lock, etc. but since I'm lazy and all, I'm going to stop introduction there.
It will theoretically unlock:
GSM: DCS-1800/P-GSM/E-GSM/GSM-850/Railways-900/PCS-1900
WCDMA: Band I to XI
LTE: Band 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 13, 17, 19, 20, 21
PS: Even if they're theorically enabled, some band cannot be used because of hardware limitation...
The Guide:
1. Download the rmt_storage patch and put it in your phone storage's root.
2. reboot your phone in recovery mode, install the rmt_storage patch then reboot in system mode aka normal mode. (when phone start, you won't have any signal for a min or two so don't panic)
3. Follow OP's steps from 1 to 9 (we need QPST configuration's server configured and active)

I'm not going to quote the entire guide, but I used that file from Step 1, flashed in recovery. By the end of the process (many steps), QXDM now shows changed values in the LTE config line. You do need both QXDM and QPST to be installed as you use QPST in earlier steps to connect the phone's modem to your PC.
Only when I got the modem to be recognized, was I able to move forward. This same thread has an addendum for Moto phones, which helped tremendously as a few steps differ from the other brand being discussed.
over in QPST was other 2G/3G bands to unlock (if hardware permits) but my Moto Maxx already has all of that I need.
this is what comes with the phone, already enabled (2G/3G). See list the program showed me.
This this is what was all able to unlock, again if hardware (like antenna) permits.
But once I got to this part, then I saw there were no LTE bands in the list. This is for 2G/3G only. Reading the threads more, I saw I had to go to QXDM for LTE band enabling. But still QPST is needed to bond the phone modem to your PC to edit the values. Up in the QPST part, the modem is assigned to COM port 8. I then had QXDM read COM port 8 for values.
Line 6828 is for LTE. Now look down in "fields", where I hit the READ button.
I changed the value, rebooted, when through all the steps (bonding the modem, etc) and read the value again. It kept the edited value.

COMMENTARY:
Really, all I wanted was to enable band 5 (AT&T) and possibly new band 12 (for T-mobile, for re-sale value in the future).
Any other bands enabled also depends on the antenna(s) in the phone. However, we KNOW this phone (XT1225) had band 5 enabled when it went through the FCC, and Motorola swears it has identical antenna to the Droid Turbo (XT1254).
Since they kept the same FCC ID number it means that when we enable band 5, it will work -- as the hardware (modem and antennas) have remained the same.
Some people have said the new LTE band 12 (for T-mobile) requires a different antenna, and this phone was never FCC tested with LTE band 12 enabled. It's entirely possibly while the band is now "enabled" on my phone, the phone would not receive LTE band 12 due to hardware (antenna) limitations. Same situation with the Europe LTE bands. But LTE band 5 is fine. We KNOW it will work with all the current hardware.
_________
The Nexus 6 (for North America), however, has all these:
LTE bands: 2/3/4/5/7/12/13/17/25/26/29/41
So, I may just go back and enable those. I don't need Europe LTE bands. Even for those, for "North America" it would depend on stuff like antenna limitations, if Motorola put an antenna in that could use all those. However, we KNOW it will handle LTE band 5, because it passed through the FCC with it enabled. Then, when launched in Puerto Rico (with same FCC number) LTE band 3 was enabled (which is used in many Latin American countries) and not LTE band 5. This phone is being sold in a handful of Latin America countries (Puerto Rico, Mexico, Brazil and Chile). So, AFTER FCC testing, Motorola software disabled LTE band 5 and enabled LTE band 3. All I did was re-enable it.
Motorola also made some other post-FCC certification changes. They enabled quad-band GSM. When it went through the FCC, there was only two GSM bands. Again, software changes.

I'm actually optimistic you can send/receive on LTE band 20, if enabled. I'm just throwing out a cautionary note.
Enabling in software does not overcome hardware (antenna) limitations. However, I do not know what antenna(s) Moto put in this phone. Except it's the same antenna as in the Droid Turbo. If you can receive LTE band 13 (Turbo) and LTE band 17 (Moto Maxx) and LTE band 5 (FCC testing of the Moto Maxx), which are all in similar frequency ranges as band 20, you might can send/receive on band 20 too.
Go look at this chart.
http://niviuk.free.fr/lte_band.php
Just a note. Just because the value sticks after a reboot in qpst doesn't mean the bands are enabled. I tried to do the exact sam thing with band 17 on the droid turbo so it would work on at&t. I followed all the steps and put my Sim card in. I live in an area with band 17 LTE support. After a reboot I still didn't have LTE on band 17 even though I enabled it and the value stuck. The only real way to tell if the bands are unlocked and working is to test them in an area that uses that band after you change the value. Just wanted people to know that I tried this for the turbo and it didn't work. If anyone knows why else mivht make it work I'm open to trying it as I have a turbo and a moto maxx.

I would speculate that you're correct. Neither Mexico or Brazil use band 20 and (like the Nexus 5) Google brought out a US model and RotW model for the final Nexus 6. Assuming the Turbo/Maxx was chosen instead to be the Nexus 6, I believe the same approach would be used.
That won't stop me from trying to unlock 20 when my Maxx arrives though!

Maybe we have same antena like the Nexus 6,but with american limitation for LTE CDMA and Gsm
we need to test it more
we make a big step with @ChazzMatt being able to conect it to the programs and changed the values
i need my Maxx to test it too and see if we are able to unlock it for real.
some users says that they changed and enabled the missing bands, but the phone still not reconigze the LTE 4G and goes to H+.

Sure. I can send the link tomorrow, I'm away from computer tonight. But the first post has over 30 steps . The "Moto" addendum, is a few pages into that thread, and replaces steps 7-14, for Motorola phones. Then the guy says do the rest of the steps after that from the first page.

ok- so I believe that I found the MOTO reference, but it was a bit of a bear to get configured none the less. I am not 100% sure how to post a quote from another thread so here goes - http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...m-updating-t2871269/post58081304#post58081304
The most important step is that I had to go to bootloader and do BP Tools on each re-boot. I will write a short add-on if I can find the time. But I believe that I was able to unlock band 12 for t-mo as I am in Minneapolis and band 12 has rolled out here. I have not been able to confirm from my house, but I will as soon as I can...

I programmed it so only band 12 is active and i could NOT get LTE on my MAXX. I am not 100% certain that I have active band 12 in minneapolis where I am, but they announced that it was active here sometime ago. I assume that we must not have the hardware to support band 12 or this software is not able to enable, but it seems that ChazzMatt has confirmed that band 5 is active for ATT. Hopefully, someone can prove me wrong...

[Q] LGL23 vs D950

Hi guys! I was going to buy a 1+ one but yesterday I had a taste of what the G Flex can do and I fell in love with it. Now I have two questions: 1)will the D950 work in Europe? I know LTE won't work, but will 3g work? I can see that it has the 2100 umts band, but the network I am on also uses the 900 umts band. When I'll not be in the 2100 range it will automatically drop to 2g or it will stop working altogether? Is there a possibility to unlock other frequencies? I am using 2g on my current phone because it has a small battery and I am happy with it, but 3g would be great.
2)is there a possibility to put kitkat on the au (lgl23) version? What I mean is: can I flash the rom (kk) from another g flex but keep the kernel so it will work? I am sorry if it sounds stupid but I am not accustomed to LGs or modding in general. The lgl23 works with the Romanian bands but it's still on jb and that's a major turn-off.
I am asking about these two versions because they are quite cheap on ebay. What do you guys think? Should I stick with one of these versions or should I go with the 1+?
Thanks!
PS: I have someone that will bring me the phone I choose from the US.
LE: I did some research and apparently I can use only the D955, the D958 and the F340 in Romania. Do you know any us stores that sell them? Thanks again!

[Q] Changing/Adding LTE bands?

Hi All!!
Was just wondering if it is at all possible to replace or add/unlock additional LTE bands on our AHD?
As it stands now: ATRIX HD has the following bands and frequencies: LTE 700 and 1700 / 2100 (Bands 4, 17). Both USA.
The problem is LTE was introduced quite recently here in Pakistan and the frequency/band they are using is 1800MHz (Band 3, I believe?). So I can use 3G internet with my AHD but not the LTE.
Now as our phone is also based on the MSM8960 chipset, I did a quick research to see what other MSM8960 chipset phones have in terms of LTE bands. Quite a few do have the 1800MHz freq I need.
RAZR HD: LTE 800 / 1800 / 2600 (Bands 3, 7, 20)
RAZR HD XT925: LTE 700 (Band 13)
RAZR M XT905: LTE 1800 / 2600 (Bands 3, 7)
Photon Q XT897:LTE 1900 (Band 25)
HTC Windows 8X:LTE 700 / 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 (Bands 2, 4, 5, 17) - AT&T
BB Z10:LTE 800 / 900 / 1800 / 2600 (Bands 3, 7, 8, 20) - STL100-2
And I did visit the official Qualcomm page and they say the MSM8960 has "world/multimode" LTE.
Now my question is are we limited by hardware or software?
And this is where I need help understanding the following link:
1) Look at Page 3 of the following PDF file. This shows a complete hardware breakdown of our AHD phone. It shows the various PA (Power Amps) and other components the phone has as well as how data flows. According to this, is our phone limited by hardware to just the bands we have now or is it possible to unlock new bands and use them?
http://www.techinsights.com/uploadedFiles/Public_Website/Content_-_Primary/Marketing/2013/techinsights-motorola-atrix-hd-mb886.pdf
Also the following photo proves that the RTR8600 transceiver on our AHD is capable of LTE @ 1800MHz (Look at 4th Gen column): http://images.anandtech.com/doci/6541/IAR Summit Nov 2012_Serge_Jim_Page_20.png
If not limited by hardware. Has anyone heard of a software called "Qualcomm Prod Support Tool" I ask this because I came across "QPST?" which claims to unlock the bands on Qualcomm processors. While keeping the existing bands unharmed.
This link shows how to use QPST:
2) http://galaxys4root.com/galaxy-s4-t...aws-bands-on-att-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337sgh-i337m/
Also found a thread about QPST WRT Samsung S5:
3) http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059
So.
1. Has anyone here ever used QPST or know of any other method to unlock bands (if at all possible)?
2. Can we just flash modem firmware (baseband) from another MSM8960 phones to enable LTE frequencies on AHD? Asking this as CM11 for MSM8960 works on all devices and hardware of all the MSM8960 phones (similar drivers?)
Any and all help/guidance on the matter will be greatly appreciated as my other alternative is replacing the phone I bought not 6 months ago. Also I know of all the legal concerns on this matter as I am not in EU or US I believe I am at little risk of FCC coming after me My point is, please add useful and knowledgeable replies to this thread concerning the topic at hand instead of telling me FCC or AT&T will catch me..
I'm currently rooted with Phil'z Touch recovery(unlocked BL) and CM11. Phone is not locked to AT&T.
Thanks in advance!

Hmm...
Enabling of additional LTE bands has failed so far on xt897 (Photon Q).
If you're interested to see what has been tried so far, see this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2275748
You should pay special attention to the research done by stargo - his posts in the second half of the thread and the link to his utility source...

I don't have the Photon Q, but it is always good to have feedback on other msm8960 devices. I'll check the link out in a sec
EDIT: Has anyone with the Photon Q tried the steps in the link above?

Thank you for the info :good:..
I just checked the links and he is failing and the modem keeps crashing but Photon Q has just the one band 25 activated by default? Maybe Moto and Sprint have a thing going there where they limited the hardware to keep the price down and prevent customer from taking their phone to rival networks?
AHD is also used by Bell in Canada I believe.. and they also use band 7 in addition to AT&T's bands 4 and 17? So their might be some hardware in AHD to use the additional bands? Of course this is all my guess work.. however..
@palmbeach05 said that he has successfully activated all bands.. I hope it was for AHD and that he got a chance to test them out That makes me think we have different hardware to Photon Q and gives me hope it would work for me too if it worked for another user?
Look the following link: http://www.comparecellular.com/cell-phones/motorola-atrix-hd-lte/specifications.asp
It lists Bell's variant of AHD capable of ONLY Band 7 for LTE... while in the US they enabled Bands 4 and 17 for AT&T? If this is accurate then we have hardware limited by firmware/software.. and additional bands could be unlocked?
I just need Band 3.. don't mind blocking the rest if that makes the device more stable as I don't travel a whole lot..
AT&T specs on the Atrix HD MB886 -
AFAIK it should be LTE (700 (band 17)) / (1700/ 2100 (band 4)) .
Band 4 is AWS which uses both 1700 & 2100 for up/down but is just referred to by 1700.
Bell LTE bands (from Wikipedia) are 700b (band 17), 1700 (band 4), 2600 (band 7).
From research it seems Bell Canada had 1700 (AWS band 4) up and running in 2011 and then got 2600 (band 7) up and running in July 2012 - the exact time frame they launched the Atrix HD.
While they (Bell) didn't get any 700b (band 17) until they launched last year - 2014.
So it would seem that the HD was indeed running on 2600 when launched by Bell IMO.
I'm quite sure that if @palmbeach05 said he had all bands working then he did.

Waiting for confirmation from him on whether he got this done for AHD or another MSM8960 phone...
1. I think that the biggest battle is getting the PC, software & HD all on the same page - If you know what I mean. Once you get the software to recognize the HD in the correct way your mostly done. I started to do this but had issues and thought I'd save it for another day.
2. I know that Qualcomm regretted leaving the MSM8960 open to DIY reprogramming as they soon updated how they did things - none of their later model chips have this ability.
3. There are some handy programs on the Play Store for computing the NV values
See----->>>> Qualcomm NV Calculator & LTE Band Calculator
4. If you succeed please keep us posted TIA

Just woke up for the day. Yes i did do that unlocking method for the AHD. To check what bands are available, hit *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone info and the three dot menu in the upper right hand corner. You are able to select preffered bands in this menu, which will allow you to make it a global phone instead of just LTE. I'm in the US, so i can only vouch for ATT bands. I haven't tried switching my apns and service to TMobile to check if they are up and running too, but i think i might do that later on today to test it out.
NOTE - Global sticks all the time, including on reboots, when selected while using CM11. CM12 is having issues on that at the moment

Thanks again.. I have no problem sticking to CM11 if it works.. I tried the latest nightly of CM12 last week and my games kept hanging and crashing so I reverted back to CM11.. I'll get an LTE sim in a day or two and then unlock the bands.. be ready for some questions regarding the unlock process

Update regarding band 17 - I am not seeing it pop up in my menu of bands i can select in the *#*#4636#*#* menu. I have not tried a different device's modem yet, nor have I tried what Kablan was talking about in his post regarding the Photon Q.

Update - Global finally sticks on 3/10 builds. It must have gotten fixed with all those commits that got pushed out between 3/4 and 3/10 builds
Sorry for not being able to respond for a while.. the week's been crazy and sadly this one looks to be following the same pattern.
So.. I didn't get a chance to try anything out as yet coz of several reasons..
First I lost my phone and thank God there are still good people left on this Earth coz one of them attended my call and brought it back to me!
Secondly my mobile operator is giving me a headache getting that LTE enabled sim.. so waiting for that.. and one top of that I've been busy..
So I apologise but please know that I've not given up on this and will give this a shot soon..

Is that CM11 or CM12? I have CM11.. build 11/12 (that's Nov 12, 2014 of course).. hope this works on it.. I have a Windows 8.1 laptop but also have an old P4 desktop PC running Win XP.. I have downloaded "EFS_Professional_2.1.80_BETA.zip" and "Unlock_bands_of_your_qualcomm_device!.zip" which contains "QPST" and "mzTools".. I'm trying to make sure I understand the instructions perfectly before I take a single step.. will ask you for help if need be.. thanks!

UPDATE #1 - After wiping modemst1 and modemst2, I attempted the unlocking of bands by editing line 1877. This method is as effective as doing it the other way with the steps that I provided.
UPDATE #2 - Editing line 441 to reflect 0xFFFF works as well, no issues to report.
UPDATE #3 - Editing line 946 to reflect 0xFFFF works, no issues. Editing line 2954 creates issues. Looking into lines 6828 and 6829 now.

LG Sport 280A (AT&T version, unlocked): works in Europe with Project Fi data SIM?

Hi, just trying to decide whether to get an LG Urbane 2 (200A; unlocked) or LG sport 280A (AT&T, unlocked)....I intend to use it with Project Fi (data SIM) in US and in Europe...I am not 100% sure whether both watches support european frequencies (3G is fine, LTE not necessary) and again, using a data SIM and not voice SIM primarily. Thanks!
The LG Watch Sport 280A does not work in Europe, it supports none of the frequencies.
I had this watch initially purchased from AT&T.
Works fine in the US of course, but not back home in England UK.
Sold it and bought the 281 version, which works great in Europe, but haven't been back to the US to know if it works on US frequencies.
LG Sport 280A vs Urbane 2
Thanks - unfortunately the LG Sport 281 seems difficult to get (in USA) and the few I found where a lot more expensive on ebay then the 280A. I will go with a LG Urbane 2 in that case (since this one supports band 2100 which works in most countries outside the US).
Is it possible to reflash W281 fw over W280A? The HW should be identical, I intend to unlock EU bands on it, if possible.

On contrary, it does supoort band B1 (2100MHz) and UMTS on it (3g). Data only SIM does not work.

Band B1 (2100) is used by the UK mobile networks, and I tried every UK network provider SIM in my 280A and it did not work.
In fact LG themselves for the 280A do not list band B1, they list GSM 850/1900 MHz; LTE Bands 2/4/5

Unlocked does list it. Reboot to bootloader and check your watches status. probably locked. Those sellers are lying. My watches are SIM unlocked, not OEM unlocked. That means that while it does accept any SIM, it does not allow any bands outside of OEM carrier's. The problem is, that I am unable to unlock it at this moment. Actively searching, and I hope that something will show up. There were posts from a guy who says that he has found a way to use adb over guest/paswordless wifi, but it does not seem to work in my case.
That is maybe the case, and over a year ago when I had the 280A I indeed hoped that the watch could be network band unlocked.
However it has never been done, or proved that all the variants have the same hardware but different software.
So for me, simply buying the 281 was the answer, and still today the only option that is working in Europe.
The watch is old now, in fact I am considering moving to the only viable option in the UK the Samsung Galaxy watch 4G. The problem is that it is e-sim and thus can only be used on the EE network with a contract for the watch and a phone so expensive.
I have bought a replacement battery awaiting delivery. If this works out OK and overcomes the shutdown problems it will last me a little longer until hopefully more options become available.
