Hey,
if I buy the phone at full retail price without contract, is it then locked for sim cards as well? I cant find this information anywhere.
I'm thinking about buying it and take it home to europa. Thats why im asking.
Thanks
It might be, considering it's on Verizon, but I'm not sure if it'd even work in Europe. It is, primarily, on Verizon's CDMA bands and presumably the SIM is only for roaming usage, I'm not really sure if it would work to just buy it in the US and take it back home.
You can buy the overseas equivalent, which is the Milestone 3 and should be available(if not now, then soon). The Milestone, unless I'm mistaken, is GSM primarily.
If I have undesrtood correctly, Motorola Droid 3 works on European WCDMA networks. They advertise phone like "3G works more than 125 countries".
I have same problem. I want Droid 3. I have heard only one comment about Droid 3 Europe edition. It says that Milestone 3 comes to Europe in Q3 or Q4. News also say that it will not arrive to UK.
Only problem on Verizon model is hotspot restrictions and contract needed. I don't want pay 30$ for 2GB, because unlimited data costs 15$, in Finland..

I thought the one for 460$ is "contract free" ? Or what does full retail price means?

At droidforums.net guys want to take it to the uk, sim already insert.
It is defenetly working, my question is now, do i get it without contract?
The thing about waiting and buying it when it gets released at europa is no point, because when i buy it now for 460$ in the us, it means 340€ (if you now a Stewardess you do not even pay taxes and shipping). When it gets released here it might be around 450€, normally they change it 1:1.

Verizon wants to keep Droid 3. Still, if you buy it with cash, you must take Verizon to Operator.
I'm not sure, will BestBuy require Verizon use, because they are Verizon branded.

b patience, it is a global phone like D2G
u need to unlock it via VZ
A unlock code ebay seller told me they get codes for the droid 3 as well.
He has over 6000 evaluations, i'll see in a few weeks.
I have always watched Droids Google and Verizon marks, and I like them(as stupid as it sounds) and if models come to eBay or somewhere, I'll buy it.

Yes, it is SIM locked even if you buy it at full retail price without a contract. If you're a Verizon customer and meet a handful of qualifications, Verizon will unlock the SIM free of charge. Beyond that, the only way to get it unlocked is to wait until some online vendors get codes for it. Once it's unlocked, it should work on pretty much any GSM network outside of the U.S.
I live in USA but do not have social security number because I am a student, (I am not a U.S. citizen) so I can not sign any contracts with carriers. I really want to buy Moto X and use it with AT&T, do you know if they are planning to sell it for full price?

i literally just got back from the ATT store, they wouldn't sell it to me without an ATT account
The regular price is showing $579.99 on AT&T's web site. That is way too much for the phone considering the Nexus 4 is $350 and can be used on T-mobile without any contracts. If you really want this phone then I would say walk into a AT&T store and see what they can do. Even though you don't have a SSN there may be special exemptions for students.
That's really hard to consider Moto X over SGS4 Google Play edition considering the same price, and people say the camera is really bad

Look at the review samples or even the "photos" thread here in the X general forum.
You can sign the contracts without SSN, all you need to do is pay a $500 security deposit, they will return it to you within a year if you pay your monthly fee on time.

I went into my local AT&T this morning trying to buy one off contract. They couldn't get the transaction to process though so the manager called support and was told that Motorola/Google are not allowing the Moto X to be sold off contract at launch.
Yeah, they told me that they won't sell it off contract for the first month

i bought mine sort of off-contract. but, instead a month-to-month "contract". pretty sure it would be pointless to buy this phone outright from AT&T. it's entirely locked down to AT&T. until someone proves otherwise, i'm unsure this "GSM" phone will work off their network.
i could be way off...

Not sure if you can get it without a contract, but I paid full price (I and under contract for another year and not yet eligible for an upgrade). I paid full retail, which in the store rang up as $540. Not sure why, since the web site shows $579.00, but I won't complain about saving $40.
BTW - the store I went to said they wont stock 32GB versions in store, they will need to be ordered online. I bought a black 16GB Moto X.
So if I walked into an AT&T store and buy their Moto X full price, will they let me unlock it to use it on T Mobile?

So now that all 4 major carriers got acces to Moto Maker and a lot of us are getting phones on that way i would like to know how Asurion be handling the replacements, are we getting same colors or not? If yes that means that we could get a brand new phone?, please shere here what you know about it

I think your best bet would be to email asurion themselves.
I know for a fact that Sprint Moto X devices purchased through Moto Maker are not covered by TEP"Assurion". They sent out a bulletin on it at work.
Assurion states that it would cost to much to match customization of moto maker devices and without changing there coverage agreements to replace with standard devices it was easier to choose not to cover the devices.

I'm not sure this is an option for Verizon. I've heard Verizon won't allow it? If anyone can link to where you add Moto's coverage to your phone it would be much appreciated.

Don't call Verizon call Motorola, they are the one you get it from. Register your device on their website.
Yes I have a Moto Maker T Mobile Varian. Because their website hasn't updated my tracking information as sent or delivered the option isn't appearing for me in their online website but I have been assured in several calls with Motorola that it should be available for me to purchase. I got a follow up call from a different department calling from a Texas number and they have escalated my request to another department. They have to have the web master fix said issue with their website.
AFAIK, this warranty extends your one year of coverage to two years and includes accidental damage coverage. If you plan to unlock your bootloader it's voided upon requesting the unlock code.

I've heard from a couple different people that Motorola is saying Verizon will not let them sell their insurance on a Moto X. I've had two reps tell me it *should* be possible but no one can give me a link to where I sign up. To be honest I think these reps are mis-informed and it is not possible.
In a chat with Verizon a couple of days ago, they tell me it's possible to add Asurion to a MotoMaker Moto X as long as it is done within 30 days of purchase. I have zero idea how a repair/replacement might be handled on a customized device.
I got all my devices with insurance with warranty extended and when i upgrade i did not change nothing but i can not confirm how my plan going to be because i dont have the phone with me yet, so i should have insurance but not sure how going to work i hope if i need to replace (knock on the wood) ill get the same color

Great question juancaperez2000!
We do cover the Moto X™ for most major carriers. Like most stores, we will carry the black and white versions of the phone. If you have a customized design, simply give us a call when filing your claim to discuss your options. You can find the policy terms and conditions for each of the carriers we cover here: www.phoneclaim.com. Thanks for the great question! We are here to help if you need us.

OK, so I have filed a claim with my Verizon MotoX, which was customized through Motomaker. What are the options if you have a 32GB Developer Edition phone? These have woven white backs with white fronts and silver accents. They have unlockable bootloaders and the warranty remains if you unlock the bootloader.

It sounds like you want a GSM Moto X, correct?
If so, just find the T-MOBILE variant. The T-Mobile Moto X is essentially the "GSM Dev Edition". It is SIM-Unlockable (or already sim-unlocked), and unlike the AT&T variant, it has unlockable bootloader.....FREE, straight from the Moto website. (No intervention from China required) The model is XT1053
So don't rely on the sellers description...just make sure you buy the T-Mobile variant. (XT1053)
I agree with you...swappa can be confusing on these terms. According to swappa, "unlocked" is supposed to refer to SIM unlocked, NOT BL unlocked. But many of the sellers don't read these rules and some even assume that if they have used some exploit to root the device that it is "unlocked"....which of course is totally incorrect.
You should be safe so long as it you buy XT1053. If you're unsure, request the seller to verify. Just because it is listed under XT1053 doesn't mean the seller couldn't have made a mistake. The model number is on the bottom rear of the phone in small print.
EDIT: The 1053 MAY not have the model number printed on the bottom rear....but the AT&T model DOES (avoid it at all costs - AT&T model comes sim locked AND bootloader locked). Better yet, ask the seller to send you a screenshot from Settings > About Phone. Under "System Version" it will list the carrier. The XT1053 should say:
"161.44.25.ghost_row.Retail.en.US"
It is the ONLY variant to say Retail.en.US - all the other variants have a carrier name in the "System Version"
Actually, I wanted the Verizon version.. Sorry that I forgot to add that in..
I could care less if it is carrier unlocked . I don't travel outside the usa for now.

OK, then you have 2 choices.
1. Buy the Verizon Developer Edition. This is the only Verizon variant that can be Bootloader unlocked FREE via the moto website
2. All other VZW variants WILL come bootloader locked. If you can get the seller to confirm a 2014 build date, you may be able to get an unlock code from China, but there is no guarantee. He will also not tell you if he has the code unless you PAY for it....so there are absolutely no guarantees here.
Looking through the swappa website, I don't see any VZW developer editions for sale. This will be a tough one for you....unless you happen to come across one that explicitly says "unlocked bootloader", but this will mean that he HAD to have gotten code from China, and your warranty will be VOID.
I did find ONE VZW Dev edition on eBay here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorola-Mo...1199176524?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item2c845be74c
There is a second one listed, but at $549 I doubt you're interested. You could buy Direct from Motorola for less.
Also, CONSIDER purchasing direct from Motorola. Think about it....if you buy the VZW Dev edition direct from Motorola, you will be able to unlock for FREE, without losing your warranty. Additionally, there is a $100 "Jellybean Rebate" for trading in a qualifying USED device. One of the qualifying trade-ins is the "Motorola Admiral" which you can get used off ebay for about $20 shipped. Buy one and send it in for the $100 rebate! I've done this 4 times now (max of 5 rebates allowed per individual - one per each Moto X you buy) and have received all of my rebates.
http://www.motorola.com/us/consumer...Verizon/moto-x-developer-edition-verizon.html
Do the math:
$449.00 VZW Dev Edition direct from Motorola
+ 20.00 Motorola Admiral used from ebay
= $469.00
- $100.00 Moto Jellybean rebate
= $369.00
Assuming you get one of the cheapest VZW X's on swappa for about $250.00, you will still need to send $45 to China (with no guarantee of unlock, and definitely NO warranty) So you're just saving $80 over the brand new dev edition that you can DEFINITELY unlock, and that retains warranty even after unlock.
Good Luck with this.
Thank you for the heads up about the JB rebate

One small note... Per the docs that came with my X, the warranty on the X is non-transferable, so buying used off swappa, ebay, etc also invalidates the warranty.

Get it from Google Play Store or Motorola.
If you get it from a carrier such as T-Mobile (you have to look it up yourself) their phone is not locked to T-Mobile. You will however have to pay off remaining EIP balance or pay for the device outright and have at least 1 month of service.
Sprint Nexus 6 should be SIM unlocked and can be used wherever.
Yup, the only variant that is SIM locked is AT&T's. I would have bought the Sprint version from BBuy, but they want $699 for the 32gb. I don't think so.
I recommend giving swappa a serious look. 32gb blue N6's are going for 700 flat all the time (with shipping included). Consider if you got "lucky" enough to buy one from Google Play or Moto. You'd need to pay $649 plus tax and shipping. That will easily put you above $700. And then you'd need to wait weeks in order for the phone to leave the warehouse.
I lucked up and talked a seller down to $710 shipped for a 32gb white. I say I got a great deal.

Would BestBuy match the GPS price? Or even the Sprint.com price which lists it at $648?

No Sprint logo. "Bloatware" would be determined based on the SIM card.
Work outside of USA..... find that yourself with the bands in your country to the Americas model.
So the Sprint Nexus 6 will be almost exactly like the unbranded one but just $50 above the normal price?
And if I get the Sprint one can I just take it abroad or will I have to use Sprint services for a certain period of time?

It will be exactly the same, but yes more expensive. The only one that is any different is one from AT&T, but even that is essentially the same phone (model number-wise). If you are buying it for outside the US, why not look into the International variant? Or has it not released where you want it yet?

If you are buying it for outside the US, why not look into the International variant? Or has it not released where you want it yet?

I have to get it for a friend living in Asia and it hasn't been released anywhere but the US and UK yet. If I get the Sprint version of the phone, will I need to use Sprint services for a specific period of time or can I just take the phone abroad?

Verify that the bands will work in China or have the signals that he wants to utilize.
For sprint I'm not sure, ask their customer service as they'll give you a answer. You'll have to buy the phone outright of course.
