[Q] How to enable "unknown source" on second user? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

"unknown source" option has been disabled and can't enable,do you have any tools to enable this?

I thought most of those options are based on the main user's settings so that if it is enabled for them, then all secondary users get it too.

My main user's setting has been 'on',but the second user's 'unknown source' is 'off' and been disabled.I tried but can't install other apps from browser.
thanks.

I have the same issue. The original Nexus 7, never rooted, got L OTA and my kid, who's the second user, can not longer install apps from Amazon App Store because the Unknown sources is greyed out on his account and can't be turned on. Turning it On and Off on my, main account, doesn't do anything to the secondary account - always grayed out.

[Q] Use secure credentials - unchecked after reboot

My corporate WiFi uses a personal certificate for 802.1x authentication.
It works if the setting "Location and security > Use secure credentials" is checked.
The problem is, after rebooting, that option is always unchecked. When I re-enable it, it prompts for the security store password and all is good.
So, is there anyway to make the "Use secure credentials" setting permanent even after a reboot?

I’m experiencing the same problem. Have you found a resolution?
I also have this problem, only on a Desire. Is there a solution yet?
Howdy!
I know I am late to the party.
I also have this problem.
Using an HTC Sensation, with cyanogenmod 7.1 alpha10, if that matters.
Where in the filesystem should these kind of options be stored?

Apologies if I misunderstood you, but, are you asking for access to secure store without the password?
Simply, alternative (not predicted by Samsung I presume) is that each boot you'd be asked for a password... and this is not a bug, that when your phone will be stolen, someone directly after reboot will have access to your company's WiFi, I think.
same problem
pre-rooted shipped stock ROM.
everytime rebooted, the "use secure credentials" unchecked automatically.
And i must check it again so i can use the power button to poweroff the phone.

I'm having this headache too, and for the reasons spamtrash listed above - you don't want it to automatically use the secure credentials.
What would be nice though (and what I could use a hand trying to figure out): Is getting the phone to prompt you for the secure login on boot, or prompt you for the login the first time it attempts to connect to the secure network. I turn my WiFi on from a homescreen widget - so I'm not in the WiFi screens to see the credential login box.
same problem here, using ICS (CM9) and CM7 latest nightly build.

[Q] Auto vs. Manual sync (& root)

first time since getting the Moto X i am disappointed (2nd time if you count the mediocre performance of camera in low(er) light situations), looks like i cannot unlock the boot loader (AT&T non dev)). main reason i wanted it is to manually sync easily.
when i just got the device i was able to manually sync even with items selected in Settings > Accounts > Google.. now i can not get that to work as it did before, any ideas how i can set it up like that again?
thanks!

Bootloader unlocking doesn't have anything to do with syncing....at all. What are you wanting to sync? Make sure everything you want to sync is checked under the specific google account in Settings > Accounts > Google.
There is a possibility of unlocking the BL via the China Middleman (use search) but it will cost you money. No reason to spend money if all you want is to sync (something...?). Be more specific, and I can give better advice. I'm really not understanding...

i realize they are 2 separate things, what i meant is if i could root and add items to the quick settings screen it would be a easy way to sync.
sorry i wasn't clear. when i first got the Moto X i checked items in Settings > Accounts > Google, yet it was *NOT* an automatic sync, i had to go in and manually sync, which is what i wanted --then i think i enabled photo backup and suddenly i was unable to have items checked without it syncing automatically, so i redid my phone hoping i could have it as i liked it (mainly 'cuz i think -although a novice- syncing uses a bunch of battery, coming from iOS and being used to 7-8hrs usage)
hope i explained it better... so i want items checked in Settings > Accounts > Google, yet on the main screen of Google, under accounts the sync account was gray, and not green.

OK, yeah AFAIK that's not normal. It sounds like maybe you have turned on google 2-step verification. Also (I know this sounds stupid) but if you haven't rebooted recently, give it a shot.
Additionally, there are some apps that may help you depending on what your goal is:
This app will allow you to automatically trigger SYNC upon certain events. Like you can auto-sync ONLY on WiFi, and turn it off immediately upon switching back to mobile network: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.redwolf.autosync&hl=en
This app allows you to add a variety of widgets including a SYNC NOW widget: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.afterhoursdevelopers.android.synker&hl=en
This is the best advice I have for you. No reason the sync should be greyed out unless there is some kind of authentication error OR you have 2-step verification enabled.
Good Luck :good:

i appreciate it.. no 2 step, rebooted several times last night and this morning. trying AutoSync2.. so far flaky at best. i keep searching and/or trying to make it work, guaranteed failure if you say it should not be grayed out in "normal" condition. had a HTC One X which was unrootable and i seem to attract devices who are excluded ;}
thanks!

Not a single sync option is greyed out under settings > accounts > google on my moto x. All I can suggest now is backup and factory reset... Sorry.

no worries... did a factory reset last night, partially for this reason. you helped a lot so no need for sorry. you use Twitter and / or Facebook, one can be turned off sync wise Twitter, other can not. struck me as odd. both not important enough for me to get notifications.

SM-710 Multi-user mode broken?

I recently retired my son's Galaxy Tab 2 (7") for a new SM-710 (updated OTA to 5.1.1). The old Tab 2 (running CM12) was setup in multi-user mode with him as a restricted user. It worked great - I could limit his access on an app by app basis, his data didn't cross-over into my data, he could log into services with his own account etc etc.
So I had intended to setup his new SM-710 the same way - me as the primary user, him as a restricted user. One HUGE problem - the Samsung (TouchWiz) version of Lollipop seems to be missing a critical menu item that is present on stock Lollipop devices. I can't find the "add users from lockscreen" option in the USER settings. On stock devices there is a menu button (top right) where this option is located. It is usually defaulted to unchecked, however on the Samsung version, the device behaves as if the option is checked, and yet there is no menu item to uncheck. This results in both the "GUEST" and "ADD USER" items appearing in the multi-user lockscreen menu when the device is locked. This is a problem for a multitude of reasons. My son could simply create a new user from the lockscreen and use that account to bypass all the restrictions I have placed on his account. Moreover, anyone else could do the same thing, making it impossible to secure the device.
I have tried a few fixes that I found here and elsewhere. All of them required me to root the device, none of them worked (build.prop edits, sql db edits etc). Happy to describe in detail what I tried, but didn't want to make the post any longer that it had to be). Has no one else noticed this problem/error/bug? Am I missing something obvious?
Any help / insight would be appreciated.
Have a look at Samsungs' "Kids Mode", available in the Galaxy Apps store. It is supposed to be their solution for handing your tablet or phone to your children. It requires a pin code to leave the Kids Mode. However, I suspect it is targeted at rather youngish kids.
My T815, which is still at 5.0.2, doesn't even have the options you describe. I'm a bit annoyed that Samsung has spent time disabling features that just come for free from Google.
The build.prop edit should have worked according to other threads. I'm not rooted, so I can't tell.

[SOLVED] Security options greyed out after Airwatch uninstall

I was doing some contract work and I had to install Airwatch (MDM) on my device to access corporate email, and apps. As part of install I had to encrypt storage, and set numbered PIN. Once contract ended, I uninstalled Airwatch. Unfortunately some of the corporate security policies applied remain in effect, No Swipe Lock, certain Android settings greyed out (see screenshots).
I did some research and several suggestions were proposed that seemed to work for other persons (remove App as sys admin, remove credentials). I have removed App as sys admin, but am unable to clear security credentials as it is greyed out.
The unfortunate side effect I now have is that on my own device I am not able to upgrade my Android version as upgrade is only allowed on unecrypted device. I can not unencrypted my device as option is greyed out.
My device is a Samsung Note 4, Android 4.4.4 on Tmobile.
I would appreciate any assistance on how to enable the greyed out security options. I am comfortable using command line and adb, so any adb shell suggestions are welcomed, as are any other options.
I think I have resolved the above. When I would select Security->Decrypt Device I was prompted to enter a password, which I did. A screen would then appear, at the bottom of the screen would be a "Change lock password" option. I would select the option as it was the only option. Next I would be presented with "Select Screen Lock" screen. I would stop here, as it did not make sense to me why it would prompt me with this option to Decrypt Device, as I already had a screen lock password set.
Well I finally select the only option enabled in the "Select Screen Lock" screen, "Password", and set a new screen lock password. It then when through the process of Decrypting device.
When Decryption was complete, a side effect was that the options in the "Select Screen Lock" screen were now enabled.
My Clear Credentials option is still greyed out, but I was able to upgrade to Lollipop which was my ultimate goal.

Location permission - allowed all the time

I'm having an issue where, on my S10+ on oneui 2.1, I cannot set location permission on my running app to "allowed all the time". Only option available is "allowed while in use". This disrupt Runkeeper.
How can I enable Runkeeper to be allowed to access my location all the time, also in the background? Thanks

android permissions manager will only show you the options the code writer will give it the option to choose from. Contact the dev. I also decided to install it on my bone stock S9 and it does the same thing. Def contact the dev
