Hello all,
Couldn't find a stock flashable kernel for in between kernel flashes, so I slapped this one together. I used an old kernel script I had from back in the day (see my thread history) and just put the boot.img inside and changed the UI text. Tested working. Enjoy!
Handy! Thanks for your efforts.
Thank you?
No problem! I made it for myself and realized nobody had one up here so I figured it could help at least one person.
Thanks, always handy when you've tried a kernel that is not good
Thank you very much for this man!
Thanks
First of all, thank you for sharing it with us.
Then, from my understanding since this is Google Stock Kernel that comes with Lollipop, I'm assuming it won't allow root even flashing SuperSU ? (Last time I've read the kernel needed to be somewhat compliant with root so you can use root), am I right?
Cheers!

You're correct. So basically what I do is flash this, then immediately flash the next kernel I want to use in the same TWRP session.

Thanks, also, from my understanding, some users reporting broken scripts when switching from one custom kernel to another. The solution so far was to flash Stock kernel before flashing another custom kernel. This happene(d) betweeen Franco Kernel and ElementalX, where sweep2wake functions wouldn't work.
Thanks for clearing this up, a stock kernel is always handy whatever the reason
So, I'm on Franco Rom can I flash this kernel and then xxkernelxx? Thanks in advance

Sure, flash away, as long as it is stock 5.0. Not sure how it would fare with AOSP. YMMV.

Not all kernels modify the devices system files.
I believe though that since Franco kernel modifies the system files and Since flashing just the stock recovery wouldn't alter or restore those modified system files back to normal otherwise it may/will cause conflicts and errors while running the new kernel.
You would need to (depending on your current setup)
1. Dirty flash the 5.0 ROM that your running to replace those system files back to normal and then flash the OP's stock recovery.
2. Fastboot flash the 5.0 Google Factory System.img (whick would reaplace the modified system files) and or the google factory boot.img or just flash the OP,s stock recovery and then any other compatible kernel in one setting.
3. Restore a stock nandroid backup that has the stock system.img and then flash any comparable kernel.
@jlink38
Thank you for this... Very Much appreciate and it will definitely come in very handy! :good:
I like to have a copy of evey stock recovery version for the N5 in a flashable.zip

Thank you very much for the thoughtful upload, OP!!
Been meaning to try out Franco's latest nightly for LP to see if I get an improvement in battery life
I'm assuming if I don't like Franco's kernel, I just simply flash this zip in recovery (I use Philz CWM) to return back to the stock LP kernel?

You should be OK. I don't know what else you have tweaked.

Is there a method or known workaround that provides the capability to use CWM recovery with the leaked KF1 build?
I have seen talk about it in other posts, but it never seemed to lead anywhere.
Check out Cognition Thread
There is a link in the OP for the Beta 2 kernel. Flash that and you will have CWM 4.0 which is compatible with CWM 3.0 files.
Can it run with stock or is it just for loading CWM files only?

Ok. Now from what I was reading though, there is issues if you try to boot into the phone with this kernel flashed, is that correct? Or does run ok with stock without flashing COG?(I am just waiting till its out of beta).

I haven't tried it myself though you can just try and test if for w/e reason it dosent work just use the 1 click here to flash back to stock KF1 with out bootloaders so there's minimal risk (I'm assuming you already have GB bootloaders and all). From what i know Cog's Beta kernal is modded but it should work with stock KF1.
It worked like a charm. I was just leary to do it at first as I have been toning down my phone experimentation lately. But it looks like I am back in business.
Thanks to both of you guys. (And of course, not that he will see this here, but as always, thanks to DG for providing what makes my phone what it should be)
How do I know if Boog's KI1/KI2 Kernel 2 was flashed?
Kernel version says: 2.6.35.7-I897UCKI1-CL607313
init.d folder contains only: S99complete
I have CWM so I'm assuming that Kernel 1 flashed properly through Odin3
I came from S7
flashed AT&T bootloaders and stock KI2
then flashed emunee's rooted/deodexed/zipaligned KI2
then flashed Boog's kernel 1 .tar with odin
now I'm trying to flash Boog's kernel 2 using CWM....
What am I doing wrong? any help would be appreciated
The name of the kernel will not change because no source released yet. Since u have CWM ur doing good. The kernels are flashing for u. No worries.

Thanks for all the help, I have 2.3.5 w CWM and i know boog has an updated kernel w root. Should I put that in my sdcard directory and restart in recovery and install package? Would that root me? Thanks, Im pretty new to this and just flashed for the first time and am very happy but wanna get rid of all the ATT crap
Thank you for the prompt attention, what about the init.d folder shouldn't the scripts show up after flashing kernel 2?
Would it be advisable to simply flash U.A.S.?

I think people have been having issues with boog's root kernel actually taking root from them rather then giving them root. I would advise the kernel swap method over flashing boog's rooted kernel for now.

If done correctly in the proper order (kinda difficult not to) only one script should appear in the init.d folder. As for the USAS I recommend reading the link in my sig about Android Optimizations first.

Dear All,
I have Note 2.3.6 stock rom rooted
I started with 2.3.6 KK2 stock rom with root without any lag on contacts screen, then I updated my phone by flashing LA1 stock rom also with no lag problem or battery, but when I flashed CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LA1-v5.0-CWM5 for root with CWM, I noticed the battery consumption is higher (but still ok, or is there a better one?) and the most annoying thing is the contacts screen lag: when I push the contacts icon it lags for exactly 8 seconds to show the contacts
my question is this lag came from the flashed file or not?
Can I flash the original kernel from KK2 stock rom? there were no lag and the battery consumption was perfect
is there any solution 4 that? if u have one then please explain to me why (this solution) and how to do it
I'd try flashing Franco's kernel if I were you. It's fast, stable and very easy on the battery. It is flashed from CWM Recovery, a piece of cake.
I'm using it as a combo on several Roms, and all of them spring contacts almost instantaneously.
Of course, you can always re-flash CF-Root if you don't like it.
thank you chasmodo for your reply,
Does your Franco Kernel will effect the root and the CWM or not?
my question is this lag came from the flashed file or not?

Franco kernel will not affect your root and CWM in any way. However, flashing stock kernel or Rom will result in losing your root for sure.

Iam reading now about the franco kernel (page 5 now) and found a lot of users have a problem with heat and bootloop (u r 1 of them) is this may be in first issues? which version u r using now and how it is regarding over heat since iam using it in a warm country
One of the early version had heat issues (4 I believe), but Franco is now at No 6 (I'm using this one ATM), which is just fine, no problems, great battery life.

Is there special settings for this kernel, I read about governer which is very new to me, all what I used to do before is just flash the kernel and thats it.
Does flashing this kernel via the CWM recovery will increase the flashing count (because of warranty)?
If I made a backup (CWM) before flashing this Kernel and did not like, If I restore the backup would I get the old Kernel or I must reflash it?

No special settings for the governor at all, don't worry about that, just flash it and you're OK. And it won't increase you binary counter.

Ok , will do
Sorry to ask, should I flash it by choosing flash kernel from CWM app, or by choosing install from zip file from CWM Recovery screen?
Install from zip file, then browse to the file.
Hello everyone,
For the past week i have been messing around with different kernels on my HTC One 4.2.2 running the Stock ROM. I have tried a couple of different kernels and although they do provide a fun experience, especially with overclocking and what not, i would like to return to the Stock kernel. I have tried to find out how to do that but i haven't reached a conclusion.
At the moment the problem is that i cannot find the stock kernel.
I have heard something about pulling the stock kernel from a full download of the stock ROM, but to be completely honest, im not all too sure about how to do that, and I don't want to make a stupid decision and end up bricking my device.
So, can someone please tell me where or how i can get the stock kernel for the HTC One 4.2.2 Stock ROM?
If there are any special ways to flash the kernel that would be great. (As far as i know just flashing it through the custom recovery works fine)
Thanks

Hey,
I had a quick look at the link you sent me through the pm, and I think you may have sent me the stock recovery, while I am after the stock kernel.
From what i've seen the kernel should be a .zip file, while the file in the link you sent to me was a .img.
Thanks though, but I am after the stock kernel and not the stock recovery.
Thanks

You can extract the stock kernel from the stock ROM found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224752
it's based on:
Code:
HTC update build 2.24.401.8
Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 (JDQ39)
HTC Sense 5.0
Release status: release-keys
Kernel: 3.4.10
EDIT: I just saw that part

Though I don't think that's the problem, but here you go:

It's probably something else that is not allowing the OTA, what kind of error do you get?

it means the file isn't 100% stock, and therefore the OTA cannot proceed.
As an example, the updater script from 3.62.401.1 to 4.19.401.8 has this:
Code:
set_progress(0.509804);
apply_patch_check("/system/lib/modules/ansi_cprng.ko", "44015172e4f2d836a602b873f6ad4ea428ecd0eb", "46d3269597bfaac74ed9be80c39f49ca1b1ececb") || abort("\"/system/lib/modules/ansi_cprng.ko\" has unexpected contents.");
so at about 50% of the system checks, it is checking the file you mentioned, and finds it has a different SHA-1 hash than what it expects. (this file was probably changed by the custom kernel, as well as other files)
so you need to set all modified files back to 100% stock.
I guess there are two possible ways:
1- if you have a 100% stock nandroid backup before installing custom kernel, restore that
2- find a stock 4.19.401.9 ROM, and flash it.

No chance it will work, zero!!
I just had a look at ElementalX, and it changes a lot of files!
so the above two options are the only ones you have if you want to take the OTA.

Micromod...Do we need to have DD'ed the 12b aboot from JC's post? Or will any old loki'd aboot work as long as we flash XDABebb's stock kernel with this ROM? I take it we need to also flash the KK baseband. Should we flash the baseband first or make sure it boots. I know we will have to flash the 12b baseband to restore our old 12B rom such as Malladus 1.2.9.
Thanks to you and everyone else who havn't seen this allowing me to download @ 3MB p/sec
Thank you for this. I will download and test. Can't wait for your debloated version.

You need to have done everything needed to get on 24a plus everything needed to get the recovery on 24a. Older roms or backups will not work with 24a recoveries without old basebands.
Cannot wait for a debloated version of this!!

I don't think this makes a whole lot of sense... If I currently have TWRP 2.7 and an old aboot. All thats required for this to flash is BB, ROM, and patched Kernel. Do we need to apply the recovery img from JC's thread or is the TWRP 2.7 we already have gonna work?

He states you need a 24a custom recovery. You could try just getting the 24a recovery.

I do not think it will work without getting to stock rooted 24a first. You can try it but I would not do it. I am on stock rooted 24a with the 24a version of TWRP. It is not terribly difficult to do.

I agree with this. In order to avoid confusion and a million requests/doesn't work replies can MicroMod provide a guide to flashing this in the OP. Even if it is copied bits from JC and XDABebb's guide I think it will help quell the issues. Most people's eyes probably will light up thinking this is something most can flash in the current state to avoid the commands some feel are dangerous. I know quite quickly in the ATT and TMobile threads there was flashable content entitled KK the easy way which seemed much more straight forward than this does. To clarify I am not complaining I just wanted to get the real skinny and help others understand if this is not a KK the easy way type zip.

There is no 24a custom recovery, per se. I believe what he means is that you'll need a custom recovery so that you have the ability to flash this. In order to do so, your aboot/bootloader will need to be 12b as that is the last loki-exploitable version...which is therefore the only way you can have any custom recovery at this point.
I think it's an excellent idea for someone to make a flashable zip for those that just want to update in that way, but please keep in mind that there are a number of other partitions involved beyond system, boot, aboot, and modem that should also be updated properly. Improperly mixing/matching/flashing them can cause problems. I don't want to scare anyone off of doing this...just make them aware.
I posted this so we can find a working kernel.

You just quoted that you only read half of what he said. 24a OR KitKat kernal patched to work on 12b. The same way people are installing cloudypro 2. There are two possible ways for us to get a 4.4 stock ROM.

So...I bit the bullet installed the KK BB first...:good: Flashed the Rom next :good:...error flashing both of XDABebb's vs980 KK kernels
Extracting Files
Loki Patch/Flash Kernel
assert failed: run_program( " /tmp/loki.sh") == 0
E: Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/TWRP/Kernels/KK/xdabebb_vs98024a_kernel_linaro.zip'
Error flashing zip ' " BLAH BLAH"
Updating Partition Details...
Is this because my aboot is most likley still 10b from ancient times long forgotten. I have never OTA'd only flashed custom JB roms of AOSP and Stock currently Malladus 1.2.9 which is 12b?
Thanks to everyone so far and appreciate direction.
Edit: Scary restore...my restore backup window was empty...I played around with TWRP 2.7.0.0 after I flashed the 12b radio back. Had to wipe everything but internal again, Go into advanced...Unmount all parts...remount all partitions. Use file manager to search the backup directory to make TWRP self aware and then I could restore.
Restoring now to Malladus 1.2.9 (12b)
Edit 2: Restore completed...re-flashed 12b Radio and Furnace 1.7.1 kernel for good measure. Wiped cache and dalvik once more cause Ill wipe till I'm bloody successfully rebooted.
What we all learned: Restoring is not a big deal but I don't know what would happen if you flushed TWRP out of RAM by accidentally rebooting after any failure. I am assuming power+down vol would be fine but please don't make an ass-umer out of me

Correct. There's a check in the script that verifies you have a 12b aboot. It's just for safety, so if you feel brazen you can change the "vs98012b" to "vs980" in the loki.sh script.

XDABebb before I go all Rambo has anyone tried any KK related installs with 10b/11a? I do not really think there is much of a diff and I would have thought that with all the weird security issues with 12b when it came out devs would just have tried the older less quirky aboots to begin with. But I can't make that call I am just a Lemming on these forums
Looking at it from the opposite perspective I have been using 12b JB kernels with whatever aboot I currently have for the last few months with 0 issues so in theory...who's up next LAWL

From what I have gathered the only important step is to DD the 12b aboot to your device and then everything should come easily once we have a solid kernel....I attempted it earlier and the kernel check failed because my aboot is 10a since I have never restored a tot/kdz or took an OTA. I haven't gotten a response back if we can DD the 12b safely while on a JB ROM in the interim so we have a backup that will work while we are testing kernels.
To answer your question though we need a new Kernel that works with KK 24a and has been patched to work with the 12b aboot and boot image.. We don't necessarily have to worry about hte boot image because that is included in the flashable ROM its just the specific aboot that is killing most of us. I also asked if it could be written to work with 10a and 11a aboots as well so it wouldn't matter since they are really the same except the revision number. I also haven't heard back on that subject either.
