Hi Everyone,
I'm adding a page on randomphantasmagoria.com for all the stock OTA updates for the Motorola DROID A855 and am curious if someone can provide me a list of the bootloader versions for the phone that have existed over the years? I can figure out which versions go with which firmware...I just want a list of all the versions that have existed. I was able to find one for the Milestone, but I know that has a locked down and encrypted bootloader whereas the A855 DROID does not, so I would assume the DROID A855 used different bootloaders entirely. If anyone could help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it.
So far I have the following:
2C.5C
2C.7C
Any others?
Thanks!
How can I find out which version I have to tell you?

I believe you hold the D-pad Up button while turning the phone on. It'll go into bootloader mode and it'll say something like Bootloader 2C.7C Battery OK. Our of curiosity, are you running a stock ROM on your DROID or are you using something custom?

The rsd lite cant see my moto x i can only access it thru the fastboot but when i try the rsd way it doesnt see the phone.
Download/find the correct system.img and boot.img for your device, then push/install them via fastboot. You shouldn't need anything else. Recovery, bootloader, and other firmware should be untouched. Only issue is if it's a safestrap device, then I have no clue.

fastboot flash system system.img
The obvious thing is make sure you have fastboot set up correctly... Drivers as well.
Make sure all drivers are installed, trust me redlite works with a soft bricked moto x, I found out today, my phone was bootlooping, nandroids failed soi wiped the sdcard and realized at that point I did the noob thing, well it worked like a charm rsdlite

i would like to thank all you guys for all the advise that was given to help me bring my moto x back to life i finally got it up and running again using the moto x toolkit it seemed like the only thing that would of work in my situation again thank yall so much :victory::victory::victory:
Who unlocks their bootloader but doesn't know what to do when stuff goes bad, like this?
If you read enough to unlock the bootloader, you should have read enough to know what to do here. Coming here frantic without even checking the eleven billion threads already is silly. We have about 12 threads about the new update and similar high number threads about restoring your phone.
Too many repetitive threads for the Moto X on xda. Some people just need to take 5 minutes and look through general or Q&A before they blindly post. Clutter everywhere.
And finally, dude! I do not have any pity for you. I'm on Verizon and cannot unlock my bootloader maybe that's why I just ranted. Nothing personal, just a general consensus of this section as of late...

I'm really having one hell of a time figuring out the most correct steps to rooting the verizon model. What I've always done upon attempting to root a new device is read all available information and decide from there. Between XDA, Reddit, Rootz and YouTube, I have no freaking idea which one is the most tried and true. My previous devices (Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus) were a walk in the park - even the droid X2 was a little easier to sift through and I faced less risk of very much destroying something. And after reading roughly 50 pages of threads here, I'm chalking most of this up to the device's immaturity. Regardless, there are people who have tried, succeeded and failed.
New folks need to hear what does and doesnt work in the most clear way possible and thats what I'm asking - what works, what doesnt work, what should I not even bother reading?

This.
Don't ask any questions, just follow the steps to the letter and you will be fine. I'm on a VZW model that I had to downgrade, and kept asking question after question.
You lose stock custom recovery forever, that's the risk on a non-dev-edition.

I am in the same boat after recently getting a Moto X and coming from a Galaxy Nexus that seemed to have more consensus, or least clearly indicated. It was a bit daunting to trying to start to learn the process again after over 2 years.
User dray has got you covered though regardless of what Moto X you are using and what version of Android you are on. Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2603358 and thank dray for his efforts.
I recently finished rooting my xt1060 starting at 4.2.2 and could show you what I did if you are in the same boat.
You can't compare a nexus to a device with a boot loader that can't be unlocked. A little research before purchasing would have shown you that its not as easy to root.
If you had a Moto x with an unlockable boot loader...then it would be just as easy as a nexus to root. Same steps in fact. So its not device immaturity ....its the fault of the particular one you bought.
Just saying.

That's nothing like the unlocked boot loader method...which is the same as the nexus method. And I can see how it intimidates new people.
So maybe quit quoting me with smart ass comments all over this forum and read the opening posts a bit more carefully.
He knows about slap ....its just a chore was his point...compared to flash recovery in fastboot...say yes to fix root.....reboot and done. Lol
Do us both a favor and put me on your ignore list....before this escalates.

Slap was one of the first methods I read about but I was then told that if I ignored the WP fix (like some of the guides leave out), Id have to go into recovery, and then reboot just to make changes to /system, which seems ridiculous. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't find it to be ridiculous at all. Rebooting into "recovery" adds maybe a minute to the whole process.
I'd like the same question as OP answered for the 1053 version. It really grinds my gears that there aren't separate forums for the different versions like they did with the variants of every other god damn phone (Galaxy Nexus as an example).

Why do they need separate forums? They all use the same root exploit with firmware specific to their model. There isn't enough development to justify separate forums.
Unlocking the bootloader is the same across the board as is rooting a locked bootloader. The only thing that differs in the entire process is the firmware.

ok i had alot of bs happening in my life latly and just totally lost touch with this whole scene and im now having some tech issues and was hoping you guy would be kind enough to refreshify my memory and give me some updates.
so to my phone is a dev edition, Ultra Maxx but im running the VZW moto x factory images so that is why im posting here.
so whats been happening is my phone has been generally running slow and im getting really inconsistent battery life. what i was planing was to flash just to reflash the moto x firmware. im on straight 4.4 and now i see weve gotten 4.4.2 and 4.4.3 and im wondering what are the pros and cons were from a hack-ability stand point if any since im unlocked? also i use skvalex's call recorder and wondered if anyone is using it successfully on 4.4.2 or 4.4.3.
and im sure this is just me being a retard but i cant find motorolas factory image page? am i stupid or are they dicks and not doing it any more?
thanks in advance for the help and for patients with my reversion to a noob.

Factory SBF images here: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=0
Follow the instructions in the "Return to Stock" thread. I don't know about call recording, so can't advise on that.
I can tell you that if and when you upgrade to 4.4.2 or above, you can never go back to 4.4 - If you attempt to downgrade once on 4.4.2, you WILL brick your phone.
Good Luck
thank you i actually know about this site however im looking for the official motorola files specific to the dev editions,
ok i found it, this is what ive been looking for
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/recovery-images
also if you flash the imgs manually as opposed to rds lite and DO Not flash the bootloader you can go back.
so for example im on 4.4 su1 and flash the system.img from su2 i can go back to su1, because attemting to flash the su1 boot.im over the su2.img is what bricks you

The VZW XT1060 rom hosted at SBF Droid Dev.org and requestable as the XT1060 Dev Edition from Moto directly are the same. Verified if you unzip and do a file compare of the IMG and BIN files included. At one point the XML files differed slighty in that the DEV Ed SBF from Moto had an extra reboot in the XML while flashing, and the erase cache and erase userdata statements were included in one but not the other.
In the OP you mention you have a Ultra Maxx running the Moto X rom... so I don't know if the same conditions apply, but on a Real X... if you flash just downgrade just SYSTEM.IMG, you will have issues. For example Settings -> Security will kick you back out of that menu. Other problems might arise too. Also, while in this state of miss matched GPT.BIN and MOTOBOOT.IMG (bootloader) vs ROM version, should you take an OTA update best case it will fail, worst case it will brick.

hey everyone just picked up a prototype N6 from a buddy and having serious issues rooting this verion. i have rooted my other N6 with no issues but this build (shamu-userdebug l lrw80j 1454210 dev-keys) just wont seem to work if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great ty. this version included a power button on the back of the phone which was nice and why it caught my eye.
What have you tried and where does it fail?
Root is usually unlock bootloader, flash recovery, flash supersu from recovery.
The problem you may have if the hardware is different is that the kernel would then be different, meaning there wont be a version of TWRP with a bootable kernel for your device. So just like you cannot run TWRP for a HTC on the Nexus 6, that could be the same case.
oh ok i see what you mean. everytime it gets to the try to temp load twrp it never seems to boot up im using the toolkit .and now it seems that i can't even boot into the system anymore just into fast boot but i can still use the flash boot flash options in root tool kit and i think you are so right about the kernel but just dont know which one to use i tried restoring /baseband /boot/system with a orignal factory 6.0 but individually but not working . is there a different method you think i can try? ty for your help.

If you're going to root, recovery is important.
There are apps that can root once booted into android, but you're playing with fire, especially if there hardware is different - as that means you will not have a factory image to flash either. These things are best kept untouched.

I cant think of a way around it. You could try flashing a stock system.img via fastboot but I cant say I'm hopeful and likely will make things worse. Without custom recovery, it is unlikely that you can repair it.
You can of course try and factory reset it. Who knows, may make it boot?
Yea flashing the system. IMG in fastboot made it worst well I used the new android m system so maybe that's why. Not looking good I hope I can get some answers soon or if maybe someone can mod a system. IMG I can use with this hardware .

yup. i bet it was the moto x pro, but in development still. they probably used all the shamu software on it at first. im curious whether it would take the moto x pro software.

It has a power button on the back.
