just you.

It's probably your fault for not taking good care of it or just bad luck.
I know when i got mine, I wouldn't even touch it on a hard, solid surface or carry it in my pocket. :silly:

Maybe you should stop dropping your phones in the toilet?

Oh this was so worthy of creating a new thread...

get a bigger phone or a smaller loo...

I come from a htc one m7 and if something i can say its grip on the note 4 fells awsome lol

Joking aside. . I have both note3 & 4 & the 4 is alot more slippery on its edges due to that stupid design bezel.

Or maybe you should sit down when you are in the toilet. It will not only prevent the phone falling into the...... It will also reduce the cleaning work of whoever is cleaning[emoji85]

Bye Bye Nexus 4 forum

I have learned quite a lot from this forum and may stop by sometime but I have traded my Nexus 4 for an unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note II and I am loving it. Once I have had it for a while I drop by and let people how it compares to the Nexus 4 for me.
Farewell! I actually did the opposite. Sold my Note for a Nexus 4. I actually dropped the phone on several occasions due to it's size and that's what made me sell it. I hope you have better luck with it, because I did love the phone at the time.

Sold my note 2 after 2 months use because the difference in fluidity is very apparent to me (nexus win), couldn't have a fully functioning AOSPA rom (Samsung sources not always available), and some of my favorite devs support the nexus (Moles, Morfic, Faux123, Franco). Do miss the battery life, spen, and gorgeous screen on the note 2 though. Both phones are great.
good luck with cheap plastic looking thingy
& we need a thread for this?

You better be rocking your nexus 4 naked to be making that sort of statement. Most people when they buy a samsung, apple or google phone always have a case on it so whether it's glass or plastic don't matter. And when you break that back glass, good luck replacing it.

Have same situation. Using note and nexus being as my back up phone.
My reasons are battery life and camera.
Just don't want to sell nexus yet as I am curious to see what the next update will bring

I switched not so much because of something I did not like because I didn't know what was better or worse than the Nexus 4 vs the Note 2. I wanted the pen, sd card, otg and the larger screen. I now find I like the larger size as I have rather large hands. So with the Note 2 I don't keep accidentally pushing the buttons on the side of the phone. I also happen to like Touch Wiz as I have it on my GNote 10.1 and I am not really that concerned with quick updates or having the latest versions. I would have gotten a Note 2 in the first place If I could have afforded it unlocked. Which I could not but I could afford the Nexus 4. Now I found someone that bought a T-mobile Note 2 on contract because they could not afford a Nexus 4. They kept their contract and switched it to the Nexus 4. They requested the Note 2 be unlocked. So I got an unlocked Note 2 without a contract. Making it was a win win situation for us.
As I use the Note 2 I find that the calls made using Talkatone over WiFi are much better quality without having to make any adjustments other than to increase the speaker settings in Talkatone when speaking to my wife as she speaks very softly. The Note 2 does not have the mic gain problem that the Nexus 4 has.
I find the screen of the Note 2 to be quite a bit cooler in color than the Nexus 4. I am still not sure which I think is better color wise. Sharpness of text and images is so great on both as I can not see any thing but smooth curves no matter how hard I look. I can not see any dots on either screen so dpi and resolution are fine for me on both.
I don't like for the physical button on the Note 2. I would rather have the center button be the same as the menu and back buttons. Also I think it looks cheap. I love how the back and menu buttons are not on the screen and do not show but light when touched. I find the arrangement of the buttons on the Note 2 better for me. On the Nexus 4 the back button always seemed to be on the wrong side. Of course the real estate of the screen is awesome the thinner frame around the screen makes the phone look even bigger than it is.
I don't like the fact the Note 2 uses S-Beam instead of Android Beam as they don't work together as far as I can tell. My wife has an Xperia Acro S using Android beam and we were able to beam some pictures sometimes between it and the Nexus 4 via NFC and Android Beam but we can't beam pictures using S-Beam and Android Beam between the Xperia Acro S and the Note 2. We were able to beam a Youtube but really that just beamed the link and opened up the Youtube player.

Negatives on Nexus 4

Seems like every time a new nexus seems like in the first three months you can't say anything negative about the phone. It must be better than everything else or bust. Its like the phone you own defines you as a person. Seems like if you think something is bad about a nexus something is wrong with you and a lot you guys attack people who are actually in touch with reality.
Apple does not give a hot damn about a nexus and it laughable to think the number 1 phone maker on the planet is worried about us. The fact that some think they have a hidden smear campaign is just nuts.
The nexus 4 is an awesome phone but it has some flaws like everything else. You can lie to yourself to make your purchase feel better but facts are facts. Here are some of the negatives so people thinking of buying this phone can now what is true and to expect.
1. This phone is very fragile ( more than any other phone I owned ). Its glass front and back so expect to own a case and screen protectors. If this phone is gorilla glass its the crappiest I have ever seen or the weakest. All these guys saying they drop there phones and not even a mark, come on. Common sense you can look at this phone and tell any hard floor and a drop over 1 foot something is getting marked or cracked.
2. After you crack the front the screen stops working and the phone is pretty much junk might as well buy a new one. This is not an iPhone so replacement parts will be hard to find and cost will be high. I can crack an iPhone and for 30-40 bucks fix it myself. Good luck on this its the same as the nexus 7. Once cracked it is pretty much worthless.
3. Phone does get pretty warm if the screen is on for about 20 min even on auto brightness. I know its a thin phone but even with a case its hot in the back.
4. Screen colors are washed and LCD is not great. Not saying its bad but its not winning any awards. Put this next almost any other top phone and you will see why people say its washed. Yes you can adjust but you have to root and flash custom and a custom kernel for best results. Then its a little better but it will always be an LCD can't change that. Viewing angles no good and blacks are not deep blacks.
5. Battery life is just ok, some may even say bad. I am on custom ROMs so its a little better but around 4 hours on screen time on average.
There are a few other minor things but for the most part these are the flaws. I still suggest this phone because its cheap, its unlocked, super fast, stock android, and its sleek and sexy. I am not a troll spent over 2 grand ordering nexus 4's, probably donated hundreds of dollars to devs.
Post what you think the negatives are of this phone.

Think you got most of them, though you forgot to mention the lack of usb otg. It would have been pretty useful, as it was on the Galaxy Nexus.

Sorry I have to disagree.
I have no heating issues, the LCD is far superior than my HTC one x was, and I get consistently over 5 hours screen on time. Unbelievable if you ask me.
Yea USB otg...but I never use it so meh.

And your stock right? I mean depending what you customize you can get 5 hours but a screen shot would help of proof. And the LCD I'm not saying is bad just not amazing. Its sharp but when I look at an amoled I start missing it again.
Yeah I didn't want to name the minor stuff, lots of people don't even know what USB otg is, could said lack of storage, yellow tint, no LTE, etc.
Main flaw is the whole scratch easy and breaks easy and don't break the front glass or it stops working. Has anyone found out why the nexus 7 and 4 have this problem. I am guessing its somewhere along the line of this how they got the cost down so much. After breaking a nexus 7 on carpet I kinda want Google to make the devices better builds or release some cheap parts to fix them.

Not too sure about the N7, but the N4 uses zero gap technology. I don't really remember the details but it's something along the lines of removing a layer from between the screen and digitizer so they can have a screen without a bezel.

when I got my nexus 4, I couldnt wait for it to come and try it out. i was coming from an htc one x. and no way in the world does the nexus 4 screen come close to the htc one x's. and my nexus 4 started having random shutoffs, heated up, battery was draining faster than i could charge. and the camera sucks on this phone. I got myself a note 2 its a solid device and I do miss the pure google experience, but tbh LG effed it up.
My biggest complaints:
-battery life is atrocious compared to my previous devices
-volume rocker gets hit a lot when pushing wake button one-handed
-google support, I feel like I was somewhat suckered into purchasing by having a Qi charging orb, miracast accessories, and the bumper dangled in front of me only to have them nonexistent, sold out and/or just plain silent when it comes to answers regarding future availability
-the flash on the camera needs to be toned down
-audio is pretty muffled when using speakerphone and phone is laying on it's back, thanks to speaker location
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I also have to disagree with the last three points
My phone only gets warm with intense CPU stuff (which is expected...)
I love the colors, and I can easily manipulate them to give richer, deeper colors through kernels and what not of I grow unhappy later
Battery for me is really good... 4+ screen in 18+ hours... On 3G with WiFi its 6+ in 20+

I am not going to discuss the other points but, you are right, the phone is very fragile. Mine suffer a falling from about one meter which cracks the screen. In any case, the replacement by an official client service costs near 150€, transport included, so the complain about the components cost its not fair.

- battery life is not that great during usage
- camera is not that great.. even compare to my s2 which is almost 2 years behind
- never drop it yet, but using a case so i dont think it would be that bad
- OOS !! at first i was planning to get a 8 gb.. but they only had the 16 gb instock .. total cost was $420 due to tax and shipping in Canada
@Fataldesaign what's the matter with you??
You've started at least 8 anti-nexus 4 thread in this forum, most of them which for locked. All of your thread are something negative.
I remember you ate the same guy from that thread where you started calling everyone your hater and all ... There's no need to start so many thread on the flaws of Nexus 4. One or two is OK.
Thread reported. Kindly do not make useless threads now.
I don't understand why people come in some phone's forum, and make a thread "faults of this phone". I mean, if you don't like this phone, at least don't turn those who spent money in getting the device against it? It may have its flaws, but we are OK with them. We don't need reminders about the bad things. I mean, constructive criticism is GOOD. But not pointless pointing out of flaws...
If you have complaints, kindly submit an error report to Google.
Hope you get my point.

Thinking of swapping my One for Note 2 !!

Ive been thinking if i should swap my One for Note 2 as i like the bigger screen
Any advice would be really appreciated
Well I don't know, go to a store, try the Note 2 and see by yourself? If the screen of the One is too small for you then yeah the Note 2 might be for you.

Funny, I sold my Note 2 a few weeks ago for a used Galaxy S3 which I'm reselling because I just ordered a new unlocked HTC ONE direct from HTC!
Note 2 is awesome and I highly recommend it but just make sure you can deal with the size. Most people adjust quickly and I had the original Note 1 then the Note 2 for an accumulated total of a year before I decided I wanted a smaller smartphone for all my summer activity portability (backpacking, motorcycling, wearing shorts instead of jeans,etc.).
Thus far I like the 4.7-5" range.
My thinking was this...50 yrs old, needing reading glasses so thought the Note 1&2 would fit the need...but in reality I end up using my reading glasses all the time anyway so why not just pop down to a smaller phone. Thus I worked my way to an HTC one.:cyclops:

[Q] Life expectancy of smart phones

Back in the day of plain ole mobile phones, Nokia's business model anticipated that a customer would replace his mobile phone every two and half years. How often do people replace thier smart phones?
I have had my note n7000 for about 1.5 years. The Note II is out and was a significant upgrade and the III will be out soon and I anticipate it too will be a significant improvement. I consider myself a regular user of the phone and that includes the abuse that goes with constant handling of the device.
I am not sure how much longer my note will survive -- nobody does -- but I am curious about people's opinion about the lifetime of Note.
Got any ideas, please share.
i would say around 3 years with medium care though if you are higly csreful and don't use it too much 4years are possible 2 though it might need battery replacement because it doesn't do good after a long while like that
I've had mine since release so 2 years, without cover or screen protector, use it in the bath, flash custom roms, drop it loads and it's fine. Only thing I've replaced is the battery about 6 months ago. If you were to keep it on gb as was intended there's no reason it wouldn't last for 5 years or so I reckon, but it doesn't really have the ram or processor for jb.
I've still got an HTC universal from 2005 I think and it still works fine, use it for emergencies, great phone, first true smartphone IMHO.
Ps... Questions should be in q&a.

Just this morning I dropped it on the bathroom floor and it ferll out of my hand and hit the hardwood floor when I fell asleep last. I often carry in my pocket with my keys and change. It does have one small scrach of the screen but the thing is nearly inscrutable. The thing that concerns me are the buttons, They get an enormous amount of use. I'll hold off on the batteries until I decide on the III
Thanks for your response.
For a good keeper its 3 years even more. But before 3 years ppl feel their devices are obsolete and they change them prior to its max life.

My current Note is really been my fav phone till now, and i believe it will continue to work well for another 1-2 years (ok, the worst thing i can think of is a replacement of battery).

Note 4 vs Note Edge

Anybody thinking about trading up their Note 4 for a Note Edge? If so, why? If not, why not?
Nope, because im not about to pay 200+ for a 2 inch screen on the side that will be nothing more than a distraction lol. Imagine flashing aosp on that thing (for those who like aosp lol) Will either have a useless 2 inch hanging on the side or a loopy screen.
Also, it is EXACTLY like the note 4 with nothing special. Note 4 regular look more comfortable to hold for me and with the note 4 reg having screen protection issue, i can't even begin to imagine how the edge will be. Also case issues, i do not want to imagine how that will work out.
overall, i just can't justify payng 1000+ for that just because one side of it is bent lol. 800 on my reg note 4 is pushing my budget.

Also, I figure so few folks will go for it, the rom scene and root will probably be "light"
and if you are at all interested in the VR attachment, it does NOT work on the edge.
Plus getting a screen protector or case is going to be very hard.
Might have decided on the Note Edge had it came out at the same time as the standard but probably not now. Will wait and see what the Note 5 brings to the table.

That's what thought about too. The cases might be terrible as far as protection goes.
It looks interesting but I wouldn't pay extra money for some beta feature that I'm never gonna use.
Doesn't the screen just run @ 2560x1600 if the ROM doesn't support the "Edge" part of the LCD in the way Sammy is using it? Or is the 160 pixel area physically separate?
Nope. I played with in BB and it was more distraction than usefulness. 80% of the time my phone is in my pocket and I don't need additional screen. Most importantly for me that Edge is not compatible with VR Gear.

I like the idea of the Edge. The extra $100 isn't a big deal to me.

They told my wife she had to wait til April and she's on the original jump 1
Note 4 to the note 4 edge seems like a waste of time and money, If you already have a note 4 it makes no sense to jump for the edge. The is a niche device at best and I honestly don't see how samsung thought it was a good idea.
There are some posts in international section from people who use it for a while and they say that is very easy to chip "sharp" edge of a phone.

I have had the Note 4 since launch day and I think I'm going to JUMP to the Note Edge next week (I'm on JUMP 1.0 and I already checked, it pays off the $718 I have still owe on the Note 4)
I like the idea of the Edge. The extra $100 isn't a big deal to me.

If that's really how you feel, you should buy a Gear Fit for $129 so you get to see the screen a little more often before it gets dinged up and you realize you just paid $100 to
lose hardware options
lose developer support
have an extra 1/8 inch of screen space (without enabling immersive mode) that can only be used to tell you about your most recent spam email or text that you have to open on the main screen
allows you to see your notifications better when the phone is on the table but accidentally hit them every time you go to hold the phone in your hand.
It's a neat gimmick, but not intended for serious users. It is for the user whom "doesn't flash roms and loves touchwiz" as something to show off, not work on.
