Hi Folks,
I am using Moto X Gen 2 edition from India.
I want to update the device to Android Lollipop without rooting it.
I dont want to wait till it reaches India & wish to have the update now.
Any tips or suggestions on this?
Thanks.
Have a look at my following link. Confirmed working by several others including me. Just follow the guide from bottom to top.

If you won't get familiar with that guide DON'T try to upgrade your phone if you don't want a 499$ paperweight.
Couple of things you might want to check, is the boot loader unlocked and what model number you have. Coming from Samsung phones, if you flash the wrong file on the same phone with a different model number you can brick it. Not sure how this applies to Motorola....

Hey guys, my dad bought a CDMA unlocked Moto X off ebay. It works great and is going to be my daily driver for a couple of weeks till my Z2 gets back from the service center. Now my issue is that the phone is stuck on 4.2.2, and when i check for a software update via phone or PC, it says firmware is up to date. Any idea what may be causing this? I dont mind installing a custom rom to get KK as this has no warranty anyway, but I dont want to lose the CDMA unlock that it has.
Thanks, sid!
See the complete guide to moto X thread in general. And go to returning to stock section. You can then manually flash a higher version.
?
So I just bought the XT1068 and I know that the L update is still not released in India so how can I flash it instead of waiting for the OTA? Any step-by-step guides would be helpful because I am quite the noob. My phone is brand new, just removed out of the box so please tell me how to flash the update.

Mate, I'd hold on a bit if I were you . You have to unlock your bootloader to flash these ROMs. Unlocking means losing your warranty (special case in India :crying. And there's also tiny bugs in those ROMs.

It all depends - while I will leave the research up to you, I was able to update without unlocking the bootloader on an xt1064. The trouble is that all the pieces have to fall into place correctly, meaning that you have to have the right update file for your build (and YOUR device - xt1068). My update process was haphazardly documented here. Basically, I started out with a carrier locked (Consumer Cellular) version of the phone, running their specific build. I unlocked the phone's sim lock via online vendor, flashed over the latest factory firmware I could find at the time (21.11.23.titan_retuaws). from there, I installed the specific update to go from 21.11.23 to 22.21.25 (where I am now). but that's the kicker - you need the OTA files that correspond to your exact build(s) and there may be more than one to get you all the way up to current.
Anyway, I did all of this using official, signed OTA files and firmware and more importantly, with a locked bootloader.

NIIIICEEE!!!!!! But the problem here is, we don't have Lollipop OTAs for XT1068/69 to do that.:crying:
Like the title says i've got an XT 1053 ( Developer Edition ) T-Mo variant. A while back I gave this phone to my kid, before I did I flashed the stock rom off of the Moto website. the bootloader is unlocked but I didn't root the phone figuring the kid didn't really need root and in the future he could take ota's, well for some reason the 5.1 ota won't install.
4.4.4
The current build # is KXA21.12-L1.29.1
Sys Version is 213.44.1.ghost_row.retail.en.us
Baseband is MSM8960PRO_BP_2323.038.123.OOR
I'm not sure what to do here, does Moto still list their firmwares online? If so I can't find them. i've seen some files here on XDA but i'm not really sure whats appropriate for this phone.
If anyone can help me get up to date on this I would really appreciate it. I just flashed my Nexus 9, Nexus 7, and Nexus 6, and didn't run into any problems, but i'm kinda stumped on this one.
Thanks
i had same issue, dont know if yours is same but i also had an xt1053 that i had returned to stock and after some time wouldnt take 5.1 ota, i had to use rsd again for it to take ota,
here is a link to motorola firmware i use, http://motofirmware.center/files/
Does it have stock recovery? It has to be on stock to take ota's. You can flash the xt1053 5.1 rom on here that doesn't update the bootloader, so you can go back if you wish because lots if people hate lollipop
Sent from my XT1053 using XDA Free mobile app
Hi everyone, I recently got a moto x and the reason I bought it was because motorola announced that it was going to recieve lollipop 5.1 so, specs/value was great for me and unfortunatly without an extensive research I bought the version from the title xt1050, as you may know it can't unlock the bl via motorola web site and it didn't recieve the OTA from 5.1 yet. So after recieving one OTA (4.4.2) I checked with sunshine and it's compatible. Before spending another $25 I wanted to be sure.. I've been reading a lot of this forum and I couldn't find the answer to this questions.
Which ROMs can I flash without harming my device? I mean, can I flash roms from the xt1058 or xt1060? The last one has the same FCC id so, what does that mean?
Considerations to avoid a hard brick? I've read a lot about not downgrading the bootloader so I was thinking to follow this thread to get 5.1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/how-to-install-5-1-lollipop-moto-x-t3089594
Another thing it's bugging me is that I only get about an hour and a half or two with luck of screen time through a day running stock, batery life it's really that bad or 4.4.2 has some nasty bug that I'm not aware?
Thats all for now guys, I'm sure I will ask some more questions later, I really don't wanna mess up this phone.
English it's not my first language so I apologise for any mistake.
I was able to unlock the bootloader on my Moto X XT1050 using the Motorola website. I have flashed my phone with the XT1060 4.4.4 rom and currently use it on Verizon.
It turns out you where right I must messed something up the first time I tried because I couldn't get my code to unlock the bootloader, you sir just saved me 25 bucks. So, thank you for that.
Now that I've my bootloader unlocked I have another questions, I've read that I can flash any rom if I flash the radios before and it should work the problem is that I found a post about how to get this files but is from a sbf file, and that is a problem because it seems that all links with the 4.4.2 xt1050 sbf are down. You flashed the xt1060 rom without flashing the xt1050 radios, didn't you? Are both lte and cmda working ok?
Hello Everyone,
My dads Moto X 1st Gen Dev Edition started crapping out a while ago and I switched him to an Iphone. Long story short, his Phone/Apps was crashing all day long, even after restore/reformat same thing would happen without anything installed we attempted Upgrading the System OS without any luck. After a few months of being in storage, I tried using it now myself as a dedicated car phone just to use with my OBD2 stuff to view real time status of the car. Unfortunately, even with my different google account , restoring fresh OS can't even use the standard OS, since everything is always crashing and doesn't allow me to install anything from app store. I attempted to Upgrade once again no luck whatsoever.
It seems the only way I can upgrade this or get a clean system is by downloading something manually or so? But google has not been able to give me any results to download an OS for it and transfer it over.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Anyone ?

Where can I get it from ?
I've tried searching online for stock rom and no luck
You specified that the device is a developer edition, but is it the XT1060 (for Verizon) or XT1053 (GSM)? I think those are the only two models.
Either way you can find the stock firmware here and here.
If you haven't unlocked your bootloader yet I think you must in order to access fastboot commands. (Even if you don't need it, what's the point in keeping the bootloader locked on a developer's edition device)? Anyway, you can do that with the information here.
Be sure not to flash incompatible firmware (e.g. if you are on bootloader version 30.BE never flash with a previous version)!
