MJ5 Build --> NC2 Build? - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I had to reflash my custom rom (UrDroid Deodex) in an attempt to get ISIS / Softcard to work. As I was looking at the roms, I almost downloaded the NC2 version of FireKat before I read not to install it unless coming from Stock NC2. Anyway -- could I flash a NC2 rom?
I used to love UrDroid since it was perfect for me, but ever since I reflashed it, the Home Button isn't working (it works for screenshots, task manager, SVoice, etc. but I can't single click it and expect to be taken to my homepage). I'm interested in trying out FireKat. My OS firmware is 4.4.2
Thanks!

You need to Odin stock NC2, you should be able to find it in the all in one thread. Then root, install ss and then you should be able to flash FK. On FK myself and it's definitely great.

Ahh thanks ... it's been a while since I've done this.
I was looking at the Odin stock NC2 and among the various files to download, I saw this one:
All-in-One N900AUCUCNC2_N900AATTCNC2_N900AUCUCNC2_HOME.tar.md 5
(link to thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2703006)
I understand the AP, BL, CP, CSC (these are the important ones for Odin), but what's the all in one supposed to be about?

The all in one is to flash with just one file instead of the four.

[Q] Can't Get Custom ROM to Flash on AT&T OA1 S5

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 AT&T OA1 (G900A) and I cannot get the phone to take a custom rom flash. First I downgrade to NCE using ODIN 3.09, check install from unknown sources, then I install towelroot and successfully root the phone. Install SuperSU and update the binary, reboot, install Busybox. Shut down and go back into download mode and use ODIN to flash the OA1 kernel. I then install either flashfire or SafeStrap and then instruct them to wipe the phone other than internal memory and flash the rom zip. I have tried several roms and everytime I get back to the same thing... the default recovery screen with a dead android.
Any suggestions or ideas what I am doing wrong?

After downgrading to nce and rooting there is no need to update the kernel back to OA1 as all the kitkat roms are based off the nce build. Our you can root then upgrade to lollipop using this method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3076803 as the devs for the s5 roms have moved to 5.0.

I have tried to do the flash several times without going back to the OA1 kernel too, but I thought that may have been the issue. I figured out quickly it wasn't.
One thing I may have been missing is that I am trying to flash lollipop roms. Is that my problem? Do I need to be flashing a KitKat rom unless I flash the rom to linked to in your post? How do I get a lollipop rom flashed if that's the issue?

You can't flash lollipop roms unless your already on lollipop. You'll have to stick with kitkat roms unless you upgrade using the method in the link that i posted. Once you upgrade to lollipop using that method you'll be able to flash lollipop roms.

Good deal. Which one did you go with. I've ran alliance, twi5ted, and TMS 2.0. I personally like TMS best. Seems like it runs smother for me.

I went with TMS 2.0, but I was hoping to get a Cyanogenmod based rom installed. I have tried several times to install the Fusion rom using FlashFire, but each time I get an unmount failed notice and have to go back to NCE.
What do you like about TMS?

First off you can't flash cyanogenmod cause of the locked bootloader. We have to stick with TW base roms. I like the stability about TMS2.0 plus the fact that the dev is still working on it. Most all the other devs have went to other phones. TalkingMonkeys is a great dev and is constantly working on mods and features.

Att note 3 help

I rooted with towel root NC2 and safe strap and was using some roms like firekat and firenote but they didnt change the kernel. Recently I downloaded one of the lollipop alliance roms and installed on the stock slot and it changed my kernel to OC1. Now safe strap doesn't work and I want to go back to where I was before. I wouldn't mind going to a lollipop rom that is rooted. Or just plain stock rom that is rooted. I need help since there is so many different tutorials and methods and things to download. I'm newer on the rooting and such, so any help is appreciated. I am able to use the phone still it just doesn't cycle thru safe strap on the boot like it did before and sometimes it won't even boot up it just freezes and I have to factory reset to get it back. So I quit restarting. I'm limping on one leg so to speak. I assume I have installed something wrong and I just want guidance towards something rooted and stockish. Link me a tutorial or something or just give it to me straight. I have better than average skills in this but I mainly follow guides of some kind. So keep it as simple as possible. Thanks

Safestrap doesn't work with kernels newer than NC2, so in order for safestrap to work, you can do either of the following things-
1. The simpler way (do this if after getting safestrap to work again, you want to install a pre-rooted stock OC1 ROM) : Install the apk NC2flasher. It'll flash the NC2 kernel and then when you reboot, you'll get access to safestrap once again. Download it from http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3452253&d=1440595672. Before installing the apk, download the pre-rooted OC1 stock rom from here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934549604 and place it on your device storage/extSD card. After rebooting into safestrap, factory reset and flash the zip and you're good to go!
2. The more intensive way (do this if you want to rollback to NC2 stock completely):
Download odin from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711451
Download the stock odin flashable NC2 files from here: https://mega.nz/#F!wg5wRQrQ!vR7a6pze9dgSWjbaRSyhWA
Warning: These are data_wipe tars, so take complete backup since the internal memory of the device will be erased completely (backup to PC/cloud/extSD card)
Put your phone in the download mode; it can be done through pressing the volume down and home button simultaneously while powering up the phone.
You'll notice that the 2 starting characters of the files (BL,AP,CP and CSC) are the same as the options found in Odin. Keeping the default checkboxes on the left side as they are, load the files in Odin as they match with their downloaded counterparts (ie. BL in BL, CP in CP, CSC in CSC and AP in AP) and flash it.
You're done!
Awesome thank you

Going to lollipop

So I'm in nc2 and wanna jump up to a new rom. Thinking alliance, biggins or Arya mod. What all are you guys running and how'd you do it? I can seem. To find the thread on how to do it. Did you use safestrap or flashfire? If you used flashfire, how do you use that? I must have the stupid on the search here lately...

You got it easy.
Root with towelroot, Install SuperSU, Install Busybox, Install Safestrap 3.75. Done.
Reboot to safestrap and flash what you need. Don't worry about flashfire, you probably won't ever need to use it. Or at least out of my experience I've not had to use it. (For the note 3 that is)
I'm much more versed in rooting and roms than you assume. I'm on dk7.1 and have odind many times. Just curious as to the actual process of switching to lp. And what would need done to go back to kk if necessary
Sent from my SM-N900A using Tapatalk
Before you flash, just back up your kk rom. And then when you flash the rom, make sure to flash the kk kernel so safestrap is still accessible

It doesn't matter what ROM you are currently on you can always odin back to NC2 and then upgrade to NL1 or OC1/2.
Examples:
If you're on OC1/2 and want to go back to NL1, you would full odin back to NC2, re-root and such. Then flash a NL1 based ROM.
If you're on NL1 without root and want OC1/2, full odin back to NC2, re-root, etc. Then flash a OC1/2 based ROM.
I've never even head of nl1. And Don you need to flash the kernel and radio or is just the kernel necessary?
Sent from my SM-N900A using Tapatalk
It depends on the ROM you plan on going to.
AllianceROM v12 doesn't require a kernel flash
UrDroid Stock Deodexed requires an OC1 flash (optional OC2 patch available)
OC1 is 5.0
OC2 is a security patch for OC1
NL1 is 4.4.4
NJ2 is 4.2.2

Are you sure about alliance? I tried to flash that and got stuck on the Galaxy Note 3 screen
Sent from my SM-N900A using Tapatalk
I've ran Alliance v12 more than a few times on both my phone and my girlfriends phone, I've not once had to flash a kernel if you get stuck reboot into the stock recovery and look at the top, if it says OC1 then your on the right kernel. But flashing it definitely won't hurt anything.
This is taken out of the changelog for AllianceROM v12
ROM will automatically flash OC1 Kernel so after install, just hit reboot.

Also make sure you're on version 3.75 for Safestrap.
i have done this many times over within the past hour and safestrap wont install... i have used these exact steps b4 last year but it just wont work now....

HELP --- Note 5 --- SM-N920P --- 3.10.95-SkyHigh_TW_v3.9 UpInTheAir#1

I Rooted awhile back and I am searching the forums to find information on how to update my current 5.1.1 to Marshmallow....
Should I simply flash a new rom with ODIN? Or I need a new Kernel? I'm trying to be overly cautious. Where do I find the new Kernel or Rom? I went to the SkyHigh page that I rooted from originally but it looks like he has not updated since 5.1.1.
Any help is appreciated??
Thanks,
KJ

Hi, go a head and download a Marshmallow Firmware from here:
Firmware for sm-n920p
use this tool to download faster:
SamFirm - Samsung firmware downloader
flash via odin and then search for a custom kernel. I used SkyHigh kernel for marshmallow but he isn't building kernels anymore and took all of his links down (Not in XDA) so I guess you are out of luck. But there are other custom kernels you can try.
I believe you would have better results if you search in Sprint Section (If I'm not mistaking N920P is the Sprint variant)

Go to ndroid.site , search that in google. there u can find latest skyhigh kernel
Sent from my SM-N920C using XDA-Developers mobile app
Here's the sprint firmware. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24545065934258585 You'll lose everything so backup any pictures, music, etc.
That'll get you up to date on MM. Then I'd sign into your google/samsung accounts so you can get onto the phone and take the system OTA to the latest. Then used odin to flash TWRP, twrp-3.0.2-0-M-nobleltespr.tar. Don't let it auto reboot. Rather once flashed manually boot into recovery. If you let it reboot automatically the phone will overwrite TWRP with stock. Once you boot in recovery flash SuperSU, BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2-20160519174328. Then you have stock MM rooted on latest. That's what I'm running along with systemless xposed.
Though there's also the latest MOAR Rom that has a lot of options you can flash in TWRP. http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...m-moar-pc3-mm-rom-v3-0-making-smoars-t3364338

NC2 Modem File, Anyone? Or full stock NC2 file?

I've been searching and searching for either file and I've got nothing but dead links. The one file I did find is bad and failed to write in Odin. It's been a long time since I worked on this phone and it's currently on 4.4.2, NC2 and it's not able to receive calls after unlocking and switching carriers...so my one thought is to flash the modem file. The phone is rooted but Safestrap is not installed. Going from NC2 up to what's currently available seems very daunting and there are many conflicting instructions on how to go from one version to another.
So, does anyone have a good link to either of the mentioned files? I've been looking for Odin files but I'd install Safestrap (if I can find the right one) and flash in recovery if that is the way to do it.
Or is it possible to update 4.4.2 to 5.0? What are the best instructions? I've spent four hours researching and it's just not obvious what I can or should do. I just want the phone to receive calls.
Safestrap is installed but won't work. Installed reinstalled busybox, etc. No love.
Found this, finally. https://mega.co.nz/#F!wg5wRQrQ!vR7a6pze9dgSWjbaRSyhWA. I flashed the modem but there is still the same problem. Did unlocking break the phone? I'm going to go ahead and download the whole stock ROM and try that next.
