Android 5.0 update causes problems http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-30116319
Other than a few connection issues, I haven't noticed these issues.
Lollipop is getting some pretty bad press but overall, I think it was a great update. What do you guys think? 5.1 on the horizon?
5.0.1 will definately be on the horizon, four patches per release seems to be the norm.

If you read carefully the problems lies with the nexus 7 2012 due to the crappy nand Asus included and tegra 3.
Only issue affecting hammerhead is the lag after opening many apps. Looks like memory management is a bit borked
Has anyone cleared recents and reopened them? That's the only issue I've found

On KitKat I could opened up to 9 apps without reload the app page again.
Lollipop only up to 3-5 apps.
This is backwards. [emoji17]

I think there was, and I do keep having connection issues so I'm not sure it's completely resolved. The actual WiFi issue was related to battery drainage and not connection drops. Still, you do get a sense it was rushed for the headlines/flagship launch, but it's backfiring in the press now unfortunately.
We got the memory leaks. That's the only one I am experiencing. 800MB system usages after about a day or 2. Not sure what app is triggering it.
I'm not having any issues. Wifi is fine. I took mine back to stock, took the OTA, & re-rooted. Battery is as good as KK, maybe better, but too early to tell really
I've done fresh image install. Maybe that reduces problems instead of OTA updates?
So far I'm not having any issues those are reported.

It seems to me like there are both WiFi and Cell issues with every android update/release and the Nexus 5. Probably mostly related to different batches of hardware and user configurations however.

I suspect that the case myself. It's much like doing a clean Windows install on a computer vs upgrades.
Fresh install here. Absolutely zero wifi, battery, or any other issues. Runs buttery smooth. Only thing I've noticed is more stable bluetooth connectivity. Bluetooth was sometimes flaky for me on KK.

Yeah me too. In fact one thing I was truly worried about was battery life after seeing all the negative reports on here. I actually think that has improved as well. Even with known killer apps such as FB & Runkeeper.

Yep I have had that issue reproduced too if you are talking about a mysterious process showing in recent apps. I saw on a article people reporting the package installer showing in recent apps. Although for me it shows the Android System process in recent apps. So it is an issue others are experiencing. Not a major issue, but a very weird and annoying one. You can see an article about it, and a video of it being reproduced right here.

I hadn't noticed, but the package installer showed up in my recent apps earlier too. Strange.
The BBC Technology News looks to have it in for "Android" or a love of "free lunches". They have also reported on 21 Nov 'Sophisticated' Android malware hits phones - "Hundreds of thousands of Android phones have been infected with malware that uses handsets to send spam and buy event tickets in bulk." Reading the article you get plugs for 2 security firms and references back to 2012. The trojan "Notcompatible" has a great history on this site - I can find 1 thread with one post! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633957.

no issues except no led notification after missed call. Did a fresh install using factory images
I've got memory leak issue since the second preview. After more than 20 hours use, so many apps can not run in background. Can't believe that Google didn't fix this serious issue on final release.

I've also had a couple apps magically reappear after clearing everything in recents. LightFlow Lite also doesn't work well for notifications, but that's probably the apps fault. No, Lolly isn't perfect, but all new OS's go through growing pains.

Hi all anyone else noticed that the 4.2 update seems to make the N7 worse not better compared to 4.1.2. To me it feels like a step back compared to the speed of Jelly Bean 4.1. It's like project Butter never happened to my device
I've seen a few scattered reports wondering if everyone is seeing this, for instance start up NFS:MW then switch to say Gmail or any other app, the entire thing starts to crawl for me. Problem wasn't present in 4.1.2
Considering reflashing but cant see that making a massive difference I did a full wipe before upgrading.
Thoughts all?
I am still on 4.1 with paranoid..will wait about a few weeks to read how is working..i am happy with curent setup so dont see to rush something "unknown" ..and i see that Bluetooth native tethering does not work which i use for connecting with my phone internet.

Same to me.
Updated via OTA on a rooted device with bootloader relocked. Enabled a second user.
OTA and no problems.
What made you think loading the factory image was the correct thing to do? Surely letting the device deal with it is the best route...

AHH now then, I've got 2 additional user accounts setup, 3 in total.. Could that be the issue, android is monitoring these other accounts even when not in use. I have two accounts with full access and another account sat at welcome.
Anyone else confirm that if you have multiple user accounts the N7 becomes sluggish switching apps?

I'll go out on a sturdy limb here and say.. Because it's the factory image provided by manufacture of the OS? That would seem like a right thing to do huh? Just like when you want to start fresh with Windows you wipe your drive and install via the factory image (DVD in Windows case).. It's 100% of the time a sure fire method the installation you have is the installation the manufacture intended.. Sometimes updates don't turn out all peachy and full of rainbows like they are intended to be.. So, some people take this into consideration and opt for a fresh install instead.

And there is nothing wrong with that. I agree with you.. 4.2 is a step backwards in Android development by a lot.. 4.2 spent 30 entire minutes on my device before I re-partitioned it back to a 4.1.2 file system (getting rid of the user account folder tree) and put 4.1.2 back on it and it'll stay that way until development catches up.

yup i like playing NS:MW and last night after the update the game slowed and stuttered like i was playing resident evil 4 on windows 95.
i think everyone soon will stop making ways to get to 4.2 and start concentrating on a guide for reverting back to 4.1 lmao
4.2 things i dont think i like:
the "edit" look lockscreen with 1 clock number bigger
the effects on games
no otg usb yet
the double notications windows
the update stole my working video cam effects and added a non-working photo-sphere mode....great

Agreed it does feel a bit slower. Opening apps and transitions don't feel as smooth as 4.1

Yeah it is a bit slower, no doubt. It's not just you. Hopefully 4.2.1 brings back the speed.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
4.2 certainly "feels" slower to me. The transition on the running apps seems different but I can't tell if it has been updated or is just happening fractionally slower so I'm noticing the transition more. I notice that you get the screenshot and then fractionally later the icon slides in from the left. Has this always happened?
Certainly when tapping the power button to turn off the screen it seems to fade slower and the click noise happens fractionally later than I would expect, which suggests it is just a performance issue.
I have added one new user profile account which I suspect is part of the issue. Pretty happy with the update but roll on 4.2.1

It is definitely slower while the screen is turning off. I suspect adding another user has got something to do with the performance degradation. I really hope 4.2.1 solves these issues.
Hi all,
I recently upgraded to 4.2q on my Nexus 7, and I experienced a lot of lag on it. I was browsing the Internet, and I found this on the internet which has worked well for me, and now I have no lag. I don't know if this has already been posted here.
This is what I found on the internet:
"If you’re one of the poor users experiencing major lag on your Nexus 7 after the Android 4.2 update, here’s what you can do to remedy the situation:
Open your app drawer
Open Google Currents
Click the three dots in the top right corner of the app
Tap “Settings”
Uncheck “Enable Background Sync”
Reboot your Nexus 7
That’s it. You shouldn’t experience anymore lag and you probably won’t even need to reboot. For me the difference was night and day. I went an extra step and disabled the app completely just in case. If you want to disable Google Currents for good measure, you can do so by going into your main Settings menu, clicking Apps, swiping to the All category, clicking Google Currents, and then clicking Disable. (If you do this you won’t be able to use Google Currents anymore, but at least your Nexus 7 will be back to normal."
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Corey

thats weird , totally weird to be that reason and....totally weird easy solution, think your gonna get many thanks for this well done for the find!
still on 4.1 here cos heard of laggy issues , when i do update ill remember this though :highfive::good:
ps. might be good to let the guys in "androidforums" know too:good:
Could be why I have never seen the lag. I always have Currents sync unchecked in my Google account since I don't use it.
If this really works, it is the most representative of the issue I have with Android. How is a normal user going to monitor all apps and deduce what app or setting is causing the issue. So... does this really work or is it just imagination?
read that this morning on Drippler ... Can't believe thats the fix! haha Thats awesome
I read this on Drippler too, disabled currents background sync, and have noticed the significant improvement. Im surprised there arnt task managers to identify such a promlem. I thought these rooters and flashers could run terminal commands. No one ran ps?

This doesn't cure lag across the board, I suspect my continuing lag issues are due to having added a user.
Added account for my GF so she could see how nice jelly bean is and that iOS doesn't rule the world, and the more she's used it more laggy my use of n7 has become.
Ok I can fix by deleting it but its quite a serious issue so hope Google fix quick.

Grats! Least useful post I have seen on this forum.
I actually get no lag at all on my nexus 7.
Used "forever gone (SD card cleaner)" from the market after updating.
Currents sync was already disabled prior to my update. It was an issue since 4.1 that's noting new and just part of the reason for the lag.
Forever Gone fixed my lag and I'm happy.
UPDATE (MARCH 13, 2014):
I have started an AOSP bug report. Please star it and comment to help it get noticed.

******************************************
June 2, 2014: Android 4.4.3 Released
- Bug is still present.
There is currently a camera issue with the Nexus 4 that causes it to crash and reboot the entire phone when you use Snapchat or Skype or any camera app. It does not always occur but will eventually happen and occurs on all phones.
It appears to be a software issue because it is not present in 4.2, but has been present ever since 4.3. Snapchat released a message a few months ago stating that it was a Nexus 4 driver/api issue, but as of yet, there is still no resolution. It does not even appear to be acknowledged by Google.

Would be cool to ser what n4 rev those people that have problema have.
I only saw this on rev 10 or on those phones witch the cam nakes noise to foccus
I really think its hardware issue as this is not common.
This just happened on my phone, running 4.4.2
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
No such issues yet on 4.4.2. I had a restart or two when choosing the wrong settings in lgCamera and sometimes the flash. Still, lgCamcorder records BY FAR the best video on the phone, and does so on 4.4.2 with ART.
Now I'ma shoot all sorts of photos with the stock camera app, Focal and Camera Zoom FX. If I check back here, it means I had a crash.
---------- Post added at 04:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:40 PM ----------
Okay, snapped about 250 shots in quick succession.
Stock app: about 50 shots no issues now or ever
Camera Zoom FX: about 100 shots, a series of 30, various ISO and spot-metering settings, no issues (sometimes the screen flickered but no issues in the results)
Focal Beta: messing with exposure compensation triggered a crash, took another 100 shots in various ISO settings incl. a quick tap series of 50, no issues. I think the crash on Focal is more due to the beta status of the app.
System: stock unrooted 4.4.2, ART runtime.

It is not a hardware issue. It's not present on 4.2.
I have rev11 and the crashes occur for me, but they occur more on Snapchat than the actual camera app.

since last month i´ve been people telling about that problem, i can help on the code(i know lil bit of c,cpp and java)but if you can help me givving last_kmseg(or last_dmseg) on /proc/last_kmseg(or dmseg) after the reboot, and giving me logcats would be also cool.

There are 400 posts in that thread. The issue is discussed many other places so it is not just 400 people who have the issue.
Furthermore, not all 2 million devices are on 4.3+ nor do all of their owners speak English and visit Google's forums or use the camera that frequently.
Take a peek through the reviews: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.snapchat.android&hl=en

Many of them complain about the reboot issue. There is an OFFICIAL statement from Snapchat acknowledging that it is a bug with the operating system; is that not sufficient evidence of the issue?
It is a consistently reproducible bug that is not limited to Snapchat: open up Snapchat, allow it to continually refocus; it WILL eventually crash and reboot your device.

Again, I'm not sure where you're getting this 98% statistic from, but that is irrelevant; the issue is not even present on 4.2.2. It exists from 4.3 onwards and currently all of the complaints are scattered throughout app reviews and more.
My N4 managed to freeze and self reboot while using the stock camera app and 4.4. I guess I'll be experiencing that again with 4.4.2.
To those who curious, my device is Rev_11.

It was meant to say 4.4.2.
From the first post:
It appears to be a software issue because it is not present in 4.2

4.2.2 != 4.2, 4.2.2 had some system changes rather than the 4.2.1(witch was just new calendar apk).
PS: the statics i didnt got, google said when they released the n4 officialy here, that all the nexus 4 made in februrary(or after) was going to be packed with 4.2.2 .

Yes, but the camera reboot bug did not occur until 4.3. It was not present in 4.2.2
Having a similar issue in CM 10.2 stable release. Wake phone, swipe to camera widget, take picture, the phone powers off and reboots. I am using stock gallery apk with photosphere
I've had this issue for a long time. I've noticed it on snapchat a while back. It's very annoying.
Finally someone that also has this bug! My phone reboots at least once a day using Snap Chat. I consider myself pretty patient when it comes to bugs but this one is ridiculous. How can it possibly be that they haven't found a fix yet? I imagine the chips will hit the fan when more devices update to 4.3 and 4.4

I'm pretty sure there is a SW request toward the ISP it cannot understand or puts it into a loop. It appears SnapChat triggers it more than other apps, hence you all experiencing it. You'll have to go for an alternative app and report it to the devs.
I noticed this bug within an hour of running 4.4.1 last November. Now it seems that main stream android news experts, lol, have noticed too.....
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/03/07/bug-watch-stopping-apps-on-android-4-4-2-can-silently-kill-related-background-services-a-fix-is-on-the-way/
"Google's own apps are unaffected". <<<< This tells all.
I personally think it's a disgrace that this 'bug', cough cough, was ever let through 'testing', cough cough again, and how long it's taken to be acknowledged.
edit.. basically imo, this makes 4.4.2 a broken OS

I'll just wait now for the 'shills' and 'Google fairies' to tell us how this 'bug', damn I've got a bad cough, doesn't affect their phone.

Found the change they made that I guess caused the issue:
https://android.googlesource.com/platform/frameworks/base/+/ddc19e9
New change to fix it:
https://android.googlesource.com/platform/frameworks/base/+/2ed1e93bc963c8b779481a1db2d9f0bec8039907
This bug does cause issues. It's something I've seen a lot and more noticeable with gaming and long up times on my devices.
Is there a way to get this new activeservices.java file and incorporate into stock 4.4.2 rom manually?
As you mention.. this bug causes many problems
edit.. from my limited understanding we just need an updated am.jar file with the fix?
It seems still not merged in here or am i wrong?
https://android-review.googlesource.com/#/c/81970/
Even if it could be already fixed in google internal branch, and not yet on AOSP
Anyway I found it absurd how much google care about some kinds of bugs..Its a little bug that can have a lot of annoiance for a user and google doesn't care at all to fix it as soon as possible..there are tons of other bug under the hood, that are ignored since years...
yeah, looks like Google have not verified it.. hmmm
anyway I found the activeservices.java file in services.jar... might have a go later on my pc with apktool and change that one line of code
though last time I messed with that tool it didn't like my 'amd' pc and borked the keys from framework resources file.. it was a year and a half ago or so, hope I can remember how I got it working
Do any of the custom ROMs here have the fix mentioned above?
Is this why most of the 3rd party apps I close remain "running" with 0.00B instead of caching the process?
It has been happening with Google apps as well. GPM and Hangouts for instance, which still manages to sleep through messages sometimes.

I had always wondered if this was a bug or done on purpose. Noob question, but can these "0 byte" processes also have an effect on battery?

Same thing with google plus. A lot of the roms I've been using (omni, purity) have fixed that issue it seems. Some others haven't however.

It's good to hear custom roms have this fix.
I'm running stock 4.4 atm to avoid the error. It's nice to have apps such as bbm working properly again, without the fear of missing notifications.
Hello. I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing studders while using the Note 4. It seems like its mostly the keyboard and in the tw ui. I know this shouldn't be happening with the amount of RAM and 805 processor.
No lag here. Prolly some rogue app you have.

Are you rooted and have xposed installed? If so, read this: http://gs5.wonderhowto.com/how-to/f...es-when-using-xposed-your-galaxy-s5-0157344/#
I had the exact same problem, and this solved it 100%. And the beauty is, you can reinstall xposed and it's still perfect.

So you seem to own the Moto X and Xperia Z3 as well. And from your post history, you have issues with those too lol. Are you using all three phones?
I get review units and I try to report all bugs I find. I just odined back to stock and the lag seems isolated to the keyboard now.

Sounds like trolling to me. There are already approximately 5 other threads on this topic already. You should at least try to participate in one of those instead of starting a new thread.
I have no lag.
Lot of threads on lags....I really wish people would just stay with those threads...even if you are asking the same question, atleast will all be in one place...
I had lots and lots of lag... I unmounted my SD card, disabled the always WIFI thing (not sure what its called).. and lastly I manually searched for tmobile network and selected it.
Then.. NO MORE LAG. It worked for me. so I am really happy now.

There's something wrong with your phone if it's lags on stock. Especially the keyboard. I've had mine for about a week now with no lag whatsoever.
