Hello, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I tried to flash this rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/development/rom-dynamic-kat-1-0-t2821650), and I evidently screwed up. I can't restore to a previous backup, or even reflash and get past safestrap. I have flashed ROMs in the past. How do I get my phone into a usable state.
Fixed it. I formatted through Safestrap, and I was able to fix the file system and flash the rom and theme.

I tried restoring from a nandroid backup I made and after the restore, I could only get as far as the i9000 boot screen. I went into recovery to try and flash a ROM, but CMW recovery could not mount my partitions (partitions got messed up by nandroid?) The only quick way I could think of was to use odin and refalsh and repartition.
I restored my nandroid from within CWM recovery. Is there something I am missing in the restore process? Obviously something went wrong.

Hey man, sounds like you tried to restore one system over another,
Forexample, stock over cm7? and that messes up the partitions as you see!
Try to install the rom you are trying to restore before you start restoring!
Should work then!
Hope this helps
I did indeed try to restore a ROM which was very different from the installed ROM. I will keep your suggestion in mind the next time I do a restore.
Just to confirm : yes, you need to flash the base ROM you're trying to restore.
I played with ICS over the weekend and got back by flashing a stock - well stock+ - JVZ and restoring nandroid.
Did the same thing, stupid as I am,
the big problem is that none of the computers I've tried with is detecting my phone right now.
I get in to CWM but and to download mode but that ain't helping me since i can't use Odin to flash back to stock rom.
Any ideas?
So earlier today, I S-offed, and changed my CID, but now for the life of me either using a RUU or sideloading a custom rom, it just hangs at the HTC One boot screen with the beatsaudio at the bottom. When I go into ClockworkMod recover, the /data and /system partitions are usually unmounted. I've tried mounting them, then sideload a rom, or leaving and sideloading, but neither works. Basically cannot get my phone to boot past there. Obviously I can warranty my phone, but I'd rather not have to do that. The rom I use when sideloading is ARHD 10.2. Might be forgetting some stuff, end of my day and pretty tired. Thanks for the help in advance.
EDIT: Also had flashed the 2.17 firmware.
Try with TWRP
And, sideloading don't need any mounted partition...
Same results, just hangs during boot.
EDIT: Still need to know which partitions should be mounted though. Like which are when a phone that is normally booting boots.
It all started when I was on SlimRom 4.2.2 build 6.2. I noticed that my camera was crashing with a message "Unfortunately, Gallery stopped working." I tried to correct this problem by moving to build 6.0 but it didn't work. Then I tried to go to ICS but instead of booting, my phone remained in CWM recovery. I've tried hundreds of things after that but my phone is stuck in recovery. I think the partitions are messed up. I cannot mount /emmc. It says Error mounting /emms whenever I try to mount it. I can connect using adb and I can go into download mode. I've tried flashing stock firmware with partitioning on using odin. But it then boots in stock recovery and cannot access sdcard.
Is there a way to do a completely clean install after creating partitions from scratch and formatting and mounting them from scratch? Is there any other way to recover phone?
Regards,
YRS
Try to reinstall the ROM again or twice.
It should've happened because of the partition and it need to be reflashed to fix.
Darky's Rom Resurrection solved my problem after 2 weeks of struggling Thanks Darky.
Had C-ROM installed, was going to install AOKP. I wiped, then installed the AOKP ROM, followed by GAPPS. It wouldn't go past LG screen, so I rebooted into recovery and now it won't let me do anything because I can't mount /data
I can boot into TWRP, but I can't flash or restore anything...
How can I install a fresh ROM, revert to one of my backups, or get back to stock at least. I saw this thread but I wasn't sure if that would fix my issue since it wasn't caused by accepting an OTA.
Any other info needed?
Not sure how exactly I was able to resolve this, but I have.
Through a series of reboots into recovery, /data eventually was mounted and I was able to complete a wipe and reinstall.
I have a new n900a with stock 4.4.2. I rooted the phone with the TowelRoot and then installed SS 4.72. I backed up my phone with a nondroid backup via SS, titanium backup as well as Helium all on my external SD . The problem is that I tried to flash the Alliance ROM v6 and it didnt work. So I said, hey I've got a full backup lets just restore to the stock ROM and no foul. Well it happens that it FAILED and I noticed that SS cant mount the system partition.
From what I have read, the stock system file for AT&T is not available so I cant flash a stock rom back on my phone. I think that somehow the phone got corrupted. I tried wiping, format data, delvic cache, data, etc. via SS 3.72, nothing works. SS shows the system partition empty. I suspect this may have happened because the ROM I was flashing was based on using SS 3.71. The developer said I should not have a problem flashing the ROM with SS 3.72. I've been flashing roms for a couple of years but have never come across this and am totally stumped. Can anyone point me in the right direction or do I have an $800 brick?

Head on over to the soft brick thread for instructions on how to undo what you did. If that fails, well, you always have the hard debrick method.
