I unlocked my bootloader without selecting allow OEM unlock in developer settings. Could this have messed my phone up? Now my cell standby eats most of my battery. Also is it OK to unlock the bootloader without selecting it in developer options? Anyone else having cell stand by issues?

In some cases it was already checked by default. Lucky. If cell standby eats more battery than other things it may be no biggie. What matters most is total excessive battery drain . If you have that, only then would you need to be concerned with the ranking of battery use by service.
Why would this have anything at all to do with your cell standby?
I'm not sure I was just stating everything I did to my phone just in case. Still getting a lot of battery drain from stand by.
I am also getting a huge amount of battery drain from Cell Standby but I don't think it has anything to do with having an unlocked bootloader. People have reported Cell Standby battery drain on the N5 running lollipop so I believe it is a lollipop issue.
Yeah, I'm getting a lot of cell standby and a huge amount of time without signal. I'm not sure if it's just a display big or what because i feel like i always have signal. If your cell standby is high check how much signal time you don't have.

So my battery time isn't horrible but why the heck is cell standby using 40% when time without signal is only 3%?! Doesn't make any sense.. anyway of resolving this?
I'm seeing the same thing, in fact most of the time 'cell standby' is on the top of my battery usage chart. I suspect some of this is because I live in a relatively weak sprint signal area, its shouting pretty loud to get to the tower.
Every once in a while the phone will boot and have service, but time without signal will show 98-100%, I haven't figured this problem out yet (and yes I've done the GSM/CDMA switch in the test menu).
If you don't want your phone to go into standby, use it more.

BAAAHHHAHAHAHAHAHA
Good one
Look guys, the battery usage is always going to total between 99% and 101%
This is not an indication of how much or fast your battery is being used, it is a reflection of how the amount of battery used IS BEING USED
Like adcdfv said, and he's absolutely right, if you want to see your cell standby percentage decrease then make more phone calls.
But there's no reason to do that.
Thank you, Thank you.
lawl.
I've done a lot of reading on this and everyone seems to say that Cell Standby has nothing to do with phone use. I use my phone all day to text and randomly use it to browse. Either way my phone is "in use" more or less all day.
And I did that same "fix" in the Test menu that Fird spoke of. I do not live in an area with a weak signal, either. Most of the time I'm getting 3+ bars..

Having a high cell standby is good. It means that the radio is going to sleep properly. It's the Time Without Signal that you'd want to worry about, but with the latest ROMs it's no longer an issue.
I know this is an old thread and it's for a diffrent phone model, but i've been searching the web for the last hour and this thread is the closest one i've found to what i'm experiencing. I have an LG optimus one phone using knzo's Void Forever(2.3.4 based on CM) and the cell standby battery usege is 37% with only 1% time without signal. Can anybody tell me why this is happening?
did you read the previous posts?
Yes i did, and i don't think it's normal to have a high battery usage if TWS is 1%.

What that means is cell standby is 40% or so TOTAL. It will always add up to around 100% no matter what. Your phone is fine.
Hi, I just purchased a razr i and I am not sure if there's a problem with the battery or if what I am seeing is usual.
I charged the battery fully when I opened it, it then discharged fully within about 8 hours. I fully recharged it, and agaiin it fully discharged in about 10 hours. It is not connected to anything (I don't even have my sim card in it yet), so cannot understand why it is discharging so quickly , especially as it is not doing anything!
As I haven't put my sim in yet (I need to get a new smaller sim card to fit it), could this be causing an issue ? I don't know if maybe its constantly trying to find a network and this is causing the drain problem.
If anyone can shed any light on what's happening here it will be appreciated. I don't want to get a new sim card CID I still get this issue and the have to change back again, and I expected the battery to last a long time based on what I have read elsewhere.
Many thanks
I had the same problem on mine. Check your battery readings, I think cell standby eats up a lot of battery when you don't have a sim on it

Try it in Flight mode for comparison.
Thanks, I'll give that a try and see what happens
There doesn’t seem to be an awful lot out there regarding having no SIM card inserted and rapid battery drain so I think it’s worth a shot.
I think it would also be worthwhile to download BetterBatteryStats to find out exactly where and what is draining your battery, and also to turn off Google Now (with or without a SIM).

Yes, phone manufacturers say this, that your phone will constantly look for a network if one is missing, it does drain the battery significantly. So maybe try it in aeroplane mode and see how the battery goes. Also consider how many hours the screen is on. The screen is typically the biggest battery drain.
My cell standby is really really high and I'm nowhere near the 6+ hours SoT that people seem to be getting here. I even followed the battery optimization guide and disable all the moto features on the phone. I also changed my preferred network type from "Global" to "LTE/CDMA" to supposedly save more power.
Is anyone else having odd drain? I attached a list of the apps I disabled as well.
Cell stand bye does seem high. Silly but I'm sure you have turned phone off and fully charged to see if it remedies?
All else fails factory reset, I know it's a pain.

I charged it while it was on fully after draining it to 1% when I first bought it. I have not turned it off or charged while it was off. I'll do that later when it is around 5% after work.
How would the factory reset help? I would reinstall the same apps again anyway so if that is the problem I wouldn't know it.
I didnt mess with any network settings but cell standby is higher than screen on my battery stats. My battery life isn't bad by any means but not as good as some others are getting
I've seen this issue reported by 2-3 other users, it's either related to the cell coverage in your area or might even be a faulty radio. Cell standby is usually high on my list but still about 1/4 of the power draw of my screen (assuming my average SoT of 6 hours) and around -96dBm (3-4 bars) signal strength. Try checking your signal strength - if you don't have an app for it, do: Settings > Wireless and Networks > More > Mobile Networks > Network type and strength.
I have this issue. My signal sucks at home. Only 3 bars most of the time.
Sent from my XT1254
Same issue here ... Just switched to ART and I'm going to switch from global to LTE/CDMA to see if I can knock it down a bit. Reception at my work is terrible in some spots (hospital). At home its not so bad.

Moto x AT&T Using Lollipop 5.1 here, full stock, non rooted, bootloader unlocked.
My cell standby varies between 40% and 70% in battery usage.
At home I do have a poor signal (1-3 bars), but at work (where I spend about 9h / day) I have full bars as I am near a tower.
I am on the Vodafone network, and using 3G (4G is not available with my SIM card and quite honestly, I don't really need it that much since I have WiFi most of the time).
I've used various aps to change from LTE to GSM PRL Auto, with no improvement to the battery life.
PS: I'd very much rather not to root/flash anything unless it's a last resort sollution
Could use some help!
My phone is the AT&T version, returning it to RMA is not an option as I bought it on ebay, and unlocked the bootloader. I am willing to root if that fixes it, i haven't rooted until now because of the OTA
PS: The reason screen on is not high in the list, is because I have a Pebble Smartwatch
It is a Android lollipop bug which Google is yet to look into. If you can then avoid using Mobile data. Even if you switch it off it still keeps using the radio and eating your battery. If you have to use it then suggest u restart once you've turned mobile data off. Preferably use WiFi. I am also facing the same bug and also reported it in the soak test community but Motorola still rolled out this update
Sent from my XT1052 using XDA Free mobile app
Google has known about this bug for months.. I don't even think it's marked as priority.
So if I am reading this correctly, you have been on the same charge for 2 days and you still have an estimated 10 hours left on that charge and you are concerned about standby using the bulk of your battery?
I would say you are doing ok.
I had similar issues, so I tried clearing the cache partition as suggested in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/5-1-mobile-standby-battery-consumption-t3136725 - This removed the Cell standby from battery stats (now it takes like 3%). Unfortunately, this did not improve the battery life in any way. It seems that it's more of a measurement bug, not actual battery drain.
When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the LG V10's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Not impressed with the steady drain.
Turn off Enhanced LTE.
Yes I went to bed last night and lost 43 percent in 8 hours!
my battery drain is minimal

I find it drops less than 5% overnight
I recently returned my first LG V10 to T-mobile and have found the battery
life to be greatly improved however on the previous phone it would drop
about 40% overnight!!!

How did you convince them to do an exchange... was battery life one of the reasons?

It was a combination of poor audio and overheating but I did
mention the battery drain was ridiculous!
I knew something was wrong with the phone and I was within my
14 days at T-mobile so they replaced the phone and since then
my battery life has greatly improved!!! and it does not get hot like it did
also I had stuttering before that doesn't happen either
wow lots wrong. my problem is that i'm rooted and have exposed installed so i never know if its the mods affecting the phone overheating and battery drain. Glad tmobile was able to do a swap.
WIFI is stuck on and won't chut-off for dep sleep. How do you turn off enhanced LTE?
is enhanced LTE named volte?

Turn off VoLTE and also look in the advanced setting in the wifi area, press the three dots at the upper right of the screen, and turn off location and passport.
I still have the feeling that I bought a 'red headed step child' and I don't know if I'm liking it.
Coming up on 4 hours on battery (unplugged at home, trip to work, sitting at work) and I am still showing 100%, not seeing an idle drain issue. Running bone stock.
I have both WiFi(not connected to a network for commute or at work) and sync enabled (Google, Facebook), GPS and Bluetooth disabled.
Coming up on 8 hours on battery and a few texts and quick Facebook scrolls... sitting at 94%. Estimated time remaining is around 58 hours.

I think I'm getting mine to sleep now. Unchecking the location and passport options under the wifi advanced settings appears to have helped dramatically.
Excellent!
lost about 10% during my sleep of 6 hours..
Some of the ideas mentioned above helped, but rooting my phone i noticed a process kept wanting root. Non stop. Did some research on this process and its tmobile checking for things. I plan on keeping phone, but supposedly it will report back to tmobile about your device being rooted and void warranty. Regardless, i used titanium and froze it. the run away process is "com.tmobile.pr.adapt". My battery actually hasn't dropped in almost 2 hours but 1 % since freezing this application, and that's because of other applications i have going in the background. Hopefully this can help ya'll out too.
Do some research if you want on that process, before freezing it, but i've noticed no changes to anything else. Nor do i use the tmobile account app and such on my phone.

Yes, T-mobile likes to have all their branded devices phone home, including their ASUS router. I unplugged a T-mobile branded ASUS router for two weeks I had connected to my internal network and one day I received a text stating I was being charged a hundred and something bucks for it. I called TMO and they acknowledged not seeing it active so they billed me for it. I sent it back. I'm not surprised that the router phoned home, but no where in the documentation included with the router did it mention that the device would phone home nor did it mention what type of data the router would be including with each call to the mother ship. That really urked me.
It also urks me that I cannot uninstall the t-mobile app, or disable it. What if I wanted to switch carriers? My phone is paid for. How would I go about uninstalling the TMO stuff? blah!
I'm on the Verizon (VS990) variant.
I installed Greenify (as I always have) and was getting stupid battery drain. I noticed that I have an app called 'Restrict Idle Apps', which is a system app that I've never seen before. Hmm. Just for fun, I removed Greenify. I now get 1% or less per hour drain on idle. My guess is that LG made "their own version of greenify" and they were fighting it out, with my battery being the collateral damage.
Does anyone else have the 'Restrict Idle Apps' or is it unique to the VS990?
U can uninstall all the T-mobile bloat ware. Even the PR.adapt ect. I have on g4 and my v10. Don't uninstall the unlock app til 40 days after its been on the network then u can submit a temp unlock remove the app so it doesnt phone back to them that its a temp unlock and unlock your phone from the network without their help. Volte defense decreases battery life on all devices and wifi calling enabled will send all the same information that the my tmobile app does and is also how they are cracking down on people abusing the hotspot/teth feature
