So my battery time isn't horrible but why the heck is cell standby using 40% when time without signal is only 3%?! Doesn't make any sense.. anyway of resolving this?
I'm seeing the same thing, in fact most of the time 'cell standby' is on the top of my battery usage chart. I suspect some of this is because I live in a relatively weak sprint signal area, its shouting pretty loud to get to the tower.
Every once in a while the phone will boot and have service, but time without signal will show 98-100%, I haven't figured this problem out yet (and yes I've done the GSM/CDMA switch in the test menu).
If you don't want your phone to go into standby, use it more.

BAAAHHHAHAHAHAHAHA
Good one
Look guys, the battery usage is always going to total between 99% and 101%
This is not an indication of how much or fast your battery is being used, it is a reflection of how the amount of battery used IS BEING USED
Like adcdfv said, and he's absolutely right, if you want to see your cell standby percentage decrease then make more phone calls.
But there's no reason to do that.
Thank you, Thank you.
lawl.
I've done a lot of reading on this and everyone seems to say that Cell Standby has nothing to do with phone use. I use my phone all day to text and randomly use it to browse. Either way my phone is "in use" more or less all day.
And I did that same "fix" in the Test menu that Fird spoke of. I do not live in an area with a weak signal, either. Most of the time I'm getting 3+ bars..

Having a high cell standby is good. It means that the radio is going to sleep properly. It's the Time Without Signal that you'd want to worry about, but with the latest ROMs it's no longer an issue.
I know this is an old thread and it's for a diffrent phone model, but i've been searching the web for the last hour and this thread is the closest one i've found to what i'm experiencing. I have an LG optimus one phone using knzo's Void Forever(2.3.4 based on CM) and the cell standby battery usege is 37% with only 1% time without signal. Can anybody tell me why this is happening?
did you read the previous posts?
Yes i did, and i don't think it's normal to have a high battery usage if TWS is 1%.

What that means is cell standby is 40% or so TOTAL. It will always add up to around 100% no matter what. Your phone is fine.

I've been researching this phone and I really like it so far, but I have a question about the battery.
I've read about the battery lasting something like 9 hours or so.. now my question is that 9 hours while constantly in use?
For example if I leave my house at 3:00 PM with a full charge hang out with my friends, end up at a bar at night, and I maybe talk for 20 minutes, send 5 txt messages and barely mess with the phone, will the phone dying around Midnight?
With that type of light usage it can last a day or even two deopending on how you config. & the radio you use.
The +or- 6-8 hours is with wifi, BT, 3g data usage, gps, etc...
I make it about half the day(5-6 hours), but I've got AgileMobile running all day using 3G connection so I'm assuming I'm running normally. This is greatly improved by switching off 3G(adds another 2-3 hours). I put maybe 15-30 minutes of calls on my phone a day, it's mostly a mobile web browser and instant messenger.
To get through a full day for me I charge the phone in my jeep while driving to / from work, and most days I eat lunch out so I charge it then as well.
Thanks for the replies. I will probably have all data connections turned off, and won't run GPS on days like that.
I really dig this phone, I just got a little worried about the chance that I won't go home after some heavy drinking and won't have a phone to use in the morning...
Also, I just read on a website review from Laptopmag.com that said "We left a fully charged Tilt on over a long weekend, and when we returned, the unit still had three out of four bars of battery life"... What do you think?
Well I think if you upgrade to wm6.1, you should gt alot better battery life.
I was sick (in bed most of the day) yesterday so I took my phone off charge at about 7am in the morning.
I sent some messages, surfed the internet with hsdpa for about 3 hours (and this is in a bad signal area, which means more battery consumption)
then did some wifi (20mins)
and a bluetooth recieve or two.
I just checked the battery level this morning (8am) and I still had 57% left. I was abit surprised because I thought it will have drained by now like it did with wm6. The point is wm6.1 has a lot better battery life. So for maxumum battery life you should upgrade.
Just my 2 cents
Battery life...
Hi I have had the kaiser for not long really... there's a neat program that tells you what is the drain, of the battery...
well if you are not touching it and not doing anything it drains about 6-10ma, so based on that yes, it can last for a looooooooong time, now when you call it goes to 200-400ma, so yes it drains more battery there. ( as you would think it would )
then again you can have the backlight to low, to use less battery, also, turn the screen off when not using it, and change the radio an a lot of hacks.
based on my experience using EDGE, the GPS, the screen, playing a game, sending some mms, and talking, it can really kill your battery in no time.
but you can also well get a car charger ( be carefull with those ) or a better battery, because to be realistic the one that comes default really sucks...
I have seen people talking about a 3000mah battery so that could really drive the phone for a loooooooong time, better think about other issues, like how sucky the camera is... ( maybe with the video drivers we are wating for this will get fixed ), also well, sometimes the performance is not that good, ( also video drivers I think ), besides that, and if you don't mind like I do, to have to wait for a few seconds to get things going on, the phone is a real jewel, if you live life in the fast lane, well maybe that second to open the keyboard will kill you

thanks
^^
Seidio 1650 battery and the Mugen 1500 batteries seem to be good oem size batteries from I have read. THere is a thread on the Kaiser Accessories board about batteries.......
I had a similar experience with excessive current consumption in standby, likely caused by the GPS though it is off (see Post "TyTN II / Kaiser issue: GPS & battery drain").
Perhaps you should install "BatteryStatus". Make yourself familiar with the battery current display, and try to figure out how much power your device draws.
Another nice test is, switch all units off (phone, WLAN, Bluetooth, GPS, really everything). Make sure no program is running (TaskManager). Leave the fully charged phone alone for 5 hours or so. Recheck the battery capacity whether it dropped more than very few percent. If you do not need GPS frequently, you may simply try a soft reset. If you have interesting results, please be so kind and add them to the abovementioned thread, too.

Yesterday I left the diamond on my desk. This morning it was dead. After some charging I could switch it on and as expected the battery was as flat as it can get. But why?! I'm sure I closed all applications yesterday!
Seems I got an very unreliable phone now... You never know if you can use it some hours later... Not really what I expect of a phone.
Again a new thread which is completely senseless... there are many topics about the battery. Better to find a solution there, than to clog the forum with complaint topics about the same subject over and over again.
mods needed
to clean the diamond threads up...this is just getting silly

Remember to close Data Connections from CommManager. And if you don't use WCDMA, switch band type to GSM (CommManager -> Settings -> Band -> Select your network type). Bad WCDMA-band signal eats battery like lion.

As is your post...
I don't complain about short battery life! Less than one night must be a failure. I already have switched off 3G network and GPRS. I read some of the other battery threads but they didn't help me.
So what else can I do? Something is eating battery - but what?

My post is in one of those useless complaint threads.
Your opening post seems more a complaint than a question. That is not useful. It would have made more sense to post what you have posted now: More information on what you have done so far, as well as ending the post with a question.
When you left the phone in the evening, how many bars were left (I mean the green coloured bars when you are in the energy settings). I have noticed that when there are only 2 bars left, the battery is already almost entirely flat.
How much battery life did it have before you left it on your desk?
I normally have to charge every day, as the battery life falls to approx. 60% after my moderate usage.
but i expect it should last about 1.5 - 2 days if i dont charge it.
ensure you have all the power management settings are enabled in 'advanced config tool' by schaps.
and ensure that you are manually configured to connect onto 2g.

Ok, you're right. I should have posted a question. Sorry for that!
The battery was fully charged. I just took it off the USB cord before going to bed.
3G is completely disabled on my phone.
Perhaps I should leave the device as I did yesterday evening and then watch whats happening. Perhaps an application pops up and drains the battery.
schaps: should one really enable all power management features?! e.g. "sd memory...", "async1..." and so on? They're all disabled on mine. Didn't read something about these options here yet.
Your answers are affirming what I thougt - it's not normal (even for the diamond) that the battery doesn't last a single night.
Hi
i am installed Beepes ROM
3G enabled - Batterie 100% after Night 86%
very nice
Yes 14% for one night would be nice. I have to wait for german roms to appear though...
I have read about some devices popping on when it is exactly 00:00. Not every night, but they've noticed once or so. No clue why it does this... maybe your phone did the same, and didn't go back to standby anymore.
Fully charged it should last 2 days using it for a few calls, sms and email functionality.
Damn... now I know how you feel. At this moment i have over slept almost 2 hours... The phone was 90% full when I went to bed, and empty this morning. No alarm for that matter...
This seems like some sort of bug indeed! Did anyone else have the same problem, and did you find a solution?
Is this maybe due to the google maps-bug? I've read that it doesn't close the gps port properly after use, and therefore the batt-troubles. To tired to find a link.. :/
I've never used Google Maps.
But I had TouchFlo activated. Since I disabled it i didn't have battery problems...

I didn't use the Google Maps either since the last hard reset. As the device wasn't hot all day long, I doubt if it was the GPS being on without me knowing.
However, I do expect it has something to do with one of the communication chips inside (GPS, WiFi, GSM, BT). Yesterday was the first night I have slept with the telephone NOT being in the flight mode. Normally I always use the flight mode so I can sleep without being disturbed. So possibly some 'bug' turns on one of the most draining comm chips for no reason at all.
Ofcourse I could disable the TFL3D, but then I will not know wheter it was really the solution. It might just as well be a one time thing...
@Murks-Muell...
Could this be punishment for me for the first few posts in this thread? Quite a coincidence!

you disabled gprs auto attach?
this feature sucks a lot of battery.
i have tuned my diamond (stock german rom 1.37.407.2) that it needs less 10% over the night (note im only on gsm).

Yep, GPRS auto attach is disabled. Even so, even if it was on, it should not be able to drain the battery that much in one night, especially when nog program is running! I also use the GSM band (not 3G). Any other night my phone uses virtually no energy.
Battery going flat overnight happened to me on ONE occasion.
After recharging and switching on I noticed that the screen never went off, and it seemed that the device had somehow unticked the 'turn off if device is unused for xx seconds' setting.
I figured my device had woken up for some reason (maybe an all day appointment with a reminder that triggered at midnight), then just sat there draining with the screen on.
Ticked the setting, no other changes and I easily get 2 or 3 days normal usage again...
I have had this issue the first night and this morning nearly again. When I wake up and I started Opera to visit a news site and I have read some articles the phone stopped. There was no low battery signal.
Hi all,
over the last 2 weeks i have noticed my diamond getting pretty damn hot on random occasions and really chewing through the battery, i have run task manager when this occurs but no process is shown using alot of CPU.
I have read alot of threads on here descibing similar symptoms, some are just people who have wifi on or using CPU intensive applications, this i expect. But a few other users have described symptoms similar to mine where they are not using the phone and nothing appears to be running.
I am getting the problem with both my original HTC battery and the 3rd party spare i brought.
From reading the board the only definite cure seems to be a hard reset.
What im really after is any suggestions you people may have that can help me determin the actual cause of the problem, for example is their any software that will log CPU usuage over time or other diagnostic ideas.
thanks for your time
checking email regularly?

Maybe you might wanna check if you have the automatic mail checking feature on? Because I noticed that whenever I let my phone automatically look for email quite regularly (i.e. every 5 or 10 mins) it drains more battery then when you set it to check email every 2 hours for instance. Well that's what has helped in my case...hope this helps...
I have looked at my mail settings and my mail checks every 2 hours, i have had it set to 2 hours since i had the device (6 months) but this rapid battery drain has only started occuring in the last 2 weeks.
In that time i have not installed any new software, so am at a loose end as to the cause of the trouble
Hello,
I did had the same symptom : worked really good for 6 months (battery lasted for 30h +-) and in one time, battery was sucked out in 8 ! I did buy a new one (900mah) and it did the same. The only solution I find was to buy the 1350mah (htc) one and from this moment it last more than 2 days without any problem.
Also, I use G-light in place of the standard windows function and from this moment I really had a difference (from BatLog I went from 142mah to 123mah).
Hope it help (yeah I know: buying a bigger battery is not fun but for a device at this price, it's not so much...)

thanks for the feedback, i will order a new battery and give it a try, at the least it will prove if the problem is hardware or software related.
today my phone still has 63% battery since i removed it from charge at 11pm last night. The fact that the problem is intermittent is making it very dificult to diagnose.
Today I noticed my wi-fi drains battery as hell, it was lie 60%+ of battery down in less than 40 minutes. In the past it was like 40% max. The PowerGuard's current meter did not show anything alarming. So the problem seems to be hardware.
Already backed up and hard resetted. The phone is under warranty and so is battery; sending it to service to get it fixed.
Or, I missed something and I can fix it?
Hey,
Yeah I'm currently experiencing the same problem.. I tired just about everything from battery fix cab, radios, to roms. I even got the orginal extended battery. The battery worked really well for like 2 weeks and then it started to drain really fast as well.. My cousin have the same phone as me HTC Diamond, and his battery is verry good.. It can last a whole day with heavy usage no problem. Where as my 1340MAH battery would only lask for 14hrs max with heavy usage, and when we switch the battery same stuff happens... His battery on my phone drains quickly and mine last long on his phone...
So I came to the conclusion that it's definitely a hardware issue.
For those without battery problem, how much usage do you get out of a battery and what kind of things do you do with the phone? I'm just trying to gauge how bad my batter is. It will last about 8-9 hours, but that's with hald of that time spent on the internet on either 3g or edge. I've only had the phone for about a week so it's hard for me to compare it to anything else.
other little things like disabling autobacklight and disabling 3G will help as well.

One of the things you might want to check is if your phone is constantly trying to switch from 2g to 3g or HSPDA. This constant searching for a "faster" signal can make the phone quite hot and drain the battery quite quickly.
I had it on my diamond when I used to live at my old place as it was right on the edge of a 2g/HSPDA and the phone was constantly trying to get a decent HSPDA signal. The battery would last maybe half a day if I was lucky. Since moving to a decent 3g area, the battery now lasts me a good 2 days on nomal usage. This is with the original battery.

a good tip to save battery power which is something we all have to do, but i do not think its the cause of my new found rapid battery drain.
The last 6 moths i have been getting around a day to day and a half rom the the phone. now on random occasions ot will get real hot (like the gps/wifi is on or like the cpu is flat out) and the power goes in a few hours.
this is fine if its daytime and catch it but a few times its gone from 100% to 0% overnight and i have woken late for work.

interesting, i will leave the phone on 2G for the next few weeks and see if i experiance the rapid drain, maybe i am on the edge of a 2G 3G nexus, as i do get a fairly weak signal here (2 bars 3G and full bars 2G)

From you last sentance it does sound like it the 2g/3g switching that is cauing your problems.
i have this issue too.
my phone will drain ~5-7% every hour in standby. and when wifi is on it drains 2% every minute even staying on the home screen and me not doing anything on the phone.
from reading this thread, i can see that this is definitely not normal. looks like i'm headed for a dreaded hard reset...
Good day to all. At first sorry form my eanglish/
I have a same problem with diamond. It is overheating while charging at standby (battery temp. is about 50 C), and if it charges by USB, the battery temp is about 46 - 47 C. The phone's fly mode is switch on. HTC service couldn't answer me smth. But it says that same problem have 2 diamond from 1000, and only way to resolve problem is a change of mother board. in Russia it's about 250 euro.
And one more notice, which battery temp is 46 or 47 C, charging automaticaly switched off... Phone heating, but battery is not charging !!!
i've resolve problem...but don't know how i did it. I try to recharging stock acc. while 4 or 5 cicles, and today i have workable Diamond.
not discharge
not overheating
it's so strange, but it works
Hi all, searched and couldn't find what I was exactly looking for.
when i first got the phone, the battery life was short but since a couple of weeks ago, it's gotten much, much worse. i've had the phone for maybe a month or so.
i'm talking about the battery draining 10% in 30-40 minutes on standby with nothing like bluetooth or wifi on. at least the phone used to hold a charge decently if it was on standby, now it drains like i'm using it even on standby.
what are the greatest factors that affect battery life? when i first got the rom i have now, it wasn't this bad so i don't think it's the rom itself. plus i absolutely hate changing roms (it takes hours to get all my settings back)
some things i thought of:
i could use g-light but i noticed this makes my memory use quite higher and this doesn't do anything for when it's on standby anyway.
how often the accelerometer checks for rotation, right now it was at every 200 millisecond. I've changed it to 750 now, i'll see what effect this has.
same thing for light sensor. right now it's at 500 ms now.
radio. but again it was fine at first with this 1.09.25.23 radio.
anything else?
With my original 900 mAh battery the consumption was about 15% every hour. This was with the data connection always on. Without this on, it would last 2 days at least.
I also loose quite a bit of power when I'm in a bad phone reception area.
But not knowing where the battery consumption is being used up can be very annoying.
Whenever I'm abroad (and thus have all data connections disabled with NODATA) I always get a massive boost to battery life so it could be some process sending/receiving loads of data that you're unaware of? To test that you could install NODATA and kill all the data connections temporarily to see if that helps? Not that that would narrow down what was happening completely but it might help point you in the right direction.
i also suspect it might have something to do with data. what i've noticed is that my emails don't download fully, only the titles download and i think it stays connected while it's 'stuck' trying to download the rest of the messages, i notice this because it says in the menu 'stop send/receive' meaning it's still trying to send/receive. normally, i have it set to check every half hour. but i guess now it's always connected to data... anyone know why it's doing this? (maybe i need to start a new thread as i can't find an answer for this email send/receive problem by searching...)
kill the 3G chip that works for me but be sure the the provider has a GSM network
yup, 3g is turned off. these days the usage is more like 5% used up every hour in standby with email checked every 30 minutes. i guess that's acceptable...
Hey,
I thought updated firmware fixed the stock messaging battery issue?
My phone had a full charge and 2 hours later, 15 texts sent/received, im down to 87% Just unlocking my screen now, i went from 89% to 87%!!
What is going on!! I have SMS popup.
I was just looking up stuff because my phone lately has been draining fast and I really have not been using it. I am at 65% and I have barely been using it today. It came off the charge at 10 and it's 12:30 now. Something is up. I can't seem to find an app that tells me which apps are using data in the background cause I think that might be my problem. Also, I checked Spare Parts and it said Facebook was Partially Awake for over 30 mins with only 14 hours up time. Hmm. I don't even have Facebook set to auto sync.

Post your up and awake times.
I've had this issue since I had this phone. I go to school with 100% charge at 8:30 and by the time I get out 12:30 it's usually around 55-65% with very limited usage. I've had fresh rom, modaco, and all the available aosp roms and it's the same issue no matter what so I just learned that if I want this phone it's has to live on the charger when I don't use it.

How many bars do you get in the classroom? Poor phone signal will drain a phone very fast. There's a couple conference rooms here where I work in the basement where phones get no signal and I see the battery on my phone drain much faster. This happened on all my previous phones as well (HTC Mogul, Diamond, etc.).

In school.....
how does it perform outside of school.. when you are at home on weekends or other places????
I am only guessing here..
but at big university, the buildings are very big.. and sometimes in hard to get receptions areas...
so, the phone might be looking for the phone network, and that will drain the battery very fast...
sorry, where can I find up and awake times? Total newbie I know...
I found "Time spent without sleeping: 36 Minutes"
I also noticed that my battery is at 73% now for SysTray Monitor but the HTC battery icon is nowhere near 1/4th gone. Looks like 1/10th is gone.

another thing to consider is that if the school has wifi available and your's is turned on on the phone, it may be connecting or attempting to connect, to the school's wifi. just a thought. i tend to turn mine off, as well as my bluetooth headset, when i go to work. seems to help, but i also have a battery drain problem. this doesn't solve it, but, like i said, it helps. i also turn my screen off manually, rather than just setting it down and letting the screen turn off automatically. every bit of energy saved helps, but it will only get about 25-50 percent better. doesn't completely solve the battery drain problem. if anyone finds a sure-fire way to solve this problem, please post and post and post. i've seen this problem arise all over the place on XDA as well as other sites. may even start a new thread with the solution so it will pop up in the search.

I guess this isn't something I have not really looked at but now it does make sense, b/c in some rooms it is hit or miss so i'll just throw it into airplane mode when i'm indoors and see how that goes. Thanks
by the way...
i am also experiencing a situation where when i plug my phone in to charge, it will charge regularly through about 80%, then it seems to fly through the last 20% within a matter of minutes. it was at 82% last night when i checked it (it was already on the charger for about an hour). then i put a bowl of soup in the microwave for 2 1/2 minutes. when my soup was done i just happened to look at my phone, and it was already up to 96%! that just can't be accurate. something is causing it to either charge improperly or the battery charge reading is somehow inaccurate. anyone else experiencing this strangeness when charging that also has the battery drain problem? as many times as i've seen these problems posted together, they have got to be related to each other.
There is an option to wipe the battery in Recovery.
Charge the phone fully, and then Wipe the battery while it is still 100% charged. This will help the battery reflect a more accurate percentage.

I did that, it worked for a few days...then I started to have issues. I think it was when I switched back to the stock messaging app. I was using Handcent before.

You're reading way too much into the precision of that battery widget.

LOL.. Point taken. Thanks
well, are you guys using modaco's custom ROM or kernel? there's an issue with the power management that HTC didn't include when the released the kernel... but i'm not completely sure what causes it.
