[Q] Hulu Plus doesn't stream in 1080p - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Pretty disappointed that Hulu Plus doesn't stream in 1080p on the 2014 Moto X. Is this something that needs to be enabled on Hulu Plus' end, or is there some way to enable 1080p streaming on our end?

Nothing on Hulu streams in 1080. 720 is the max.

Thanks for the clarification about 1080p. But on the Moto X, Hulu doesn't even stream in 720p. It's clearly not streaming in HD at all. Seems like at least 720p shoukd be enabled.

I spoke with Hulu customer service yesterday. She said that they're referring the issue to their developers to work on enabling HD streaming on the Moto X and other phones.

1080p on samsung wireless cast hub?

Ok here it is I brought a Samsung wireless cast hub yesterday from best buy I've never really done research on it but now that I have I'm confused between it being able to stream 1080p videos which there's some sites and folks claiming it does but on my end all I'm seeing is actually a bad quality which probably is 720p mind you it looks awful on my hdtv but looks good on my phone I don't get it is there anyone of you guys out there that has this device and could chip in if it does play 1080p videos or does it only play 720p because if not I'm planning to just return it and get a mhl to hdmi cable instead any help would be great.

Amazon instant video

With the cast SDK being out have we figured out Amazons service? my grandmother bought one after seeing mine and she has and uses netflix but her favorite show is on amazon... what can be done...
Can her show not be found anywhere else? Is it like a Amazon exclusive show?

Only way is to use cast from Chrome browser on a PC right now. It works fine, but you have to have a semi-recent PC. Complain to Amazon like the guy from Engadget did and try to get a partial credit. He has a form letter to help.

There are other ways, I don't exactly approve of spreading the word on companies with absolutely no moral grounding but it is possible with a DLNA server that has Amazon prime in their channel mix and you can use bubbleupnp to cast it

The Android community have been waiting for an Amazon Video app forever. I don't think I'll be renewing Prime when it's up this time, especially with the rumor of higher yearly rates.
Showbox + Avia or BubbleUPnP will work fine. If you really want Amazon video on a streaming stick and don't want the hassle then check out the newest Roku 3500R Streaming Stick that well be out in a month.
Another alternative is using wifi mouse or an automation program that can move the mouse for you while you are casting. That way you don't have to be at your computer to use Amazon videos

Moto x repair! Not playing videos or music!

OK, I have a at&t moto x that went thru the washing machine. I died it out for 2 days, turned it on and the screen would not respond. So I replaced the screen and digitizer assembly. The phone works now, the screen respond, it did the ota update from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 just fine. But it won't play any videos on camera or YouTube. The camera will take pictures but won't record a video. Does anyone have any suggestions or any parts I could replace? Or am I just SOL? I don't understand why it's not streaming videos??? I would think that would be software related? Not hardware? Help please, thank you.

Solved! I guess when you replace the digitizer you need to update/ download new video software. I downloaded MX player from the play store and now all movies, YouTube videos and my ringtones work! I thought I had a blown speaker, but it was something to do with the video playback software. Hopefully this will save someone a headache someday! ?

Amazon Prime Streaming

I'm wondering if anyone has a good idea to stream amazon prime streaming onto the chromecast. I try to to just cast the whole screen and then it lags. However I'm wondering if the new one might be better for screen mirroring.
I'm almost positive that the new one has better broadcasting options for Amazon video.

Amazon has pretty much gone to war with Google over streaming video. You basically have to pick one (Chromecast/AndroidTV, or FireTV), or go with a successful neutral like Roku. They're being real dicks about it.

Note 8 "Screencast"?

Says not optimized and it just doesn't work to mirror the screen to my Chromecast. Either with Screencast or Smart View.
I have the original Chromecast. Not the "Chromecast Ultra".
Will the Note 8 ONLY mirror the screen on the Ultra? Casting YouTube videos is fine.
I can cast using Smart View with a standard Chromecast just fine. USB-C > HDMI also works with my dongle

I have the ultra and same thing. YouTube and photos is fine, but can't mirror to the tv

Well hell, I'm seeing the same thing. I've always seen that warning on my other phones but I just click "don't show again" and just continue with the cast and it works just fine. Now it's not. Huh... Wonder what's up with that.

Just wondering, are you using your phone in 1080 resolution? I have mine in 1440, and I wonder if that's why.

I am! That could definitely be a good reason.

Okay, now I see the problem. It's the resolution option you choose. I was on WQHD+ (2960x1440) so I switched to FHD+ (2220x1080) and I was able to screen cast to my Chromecast like before. It's the same on the S8 Plus I got. Screen resolution needs to be set to FHD+ and lower in order to work.
Not the worst thing, the picture seems fine enough for me. Wonder if future updates to the Chromecast will support higher resolutions.

The original Chromecast won't ever be capable of more than 1080p resolution. The Chromecast Ultra offers 4K, though.
