[Q] Phone crashes almost all the time during a phone call - Moto X Q&A

I've been facing this issue ever since I got this phone (used phone).
It's rooted and unlocked. Sprint model.
Almost every time I'm in a call, it crashes (and restarts) after a while. There is a bug report generated that's like 6mb in size. Same thing happens with Viber too. If someone calls me on Viber, the phone crashes and restarts.
Sometimes it shows the Touchless Controlls forced close error.
Can I somehow fix this phone?

You can return to complete stock. That's what's recommended in a situation like that since your phone is basically unusable. The guide is stickied somewhere

Scroll down to return to stock. But don't downgrade your phone. Never do that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2603358

U are boot loader unlocked correct ?

Flash the stock firmware matching the firmware currently installed on the phone. You can upgrade, but do NOT downgrade.

Prevention Information Warning (Brand New Note3)

Ok yall, so I haven't installed anything on my phone yet (just got it today), just let the phone run all the app updates that come with the phone. I keep getting the Prevention Information Warning on every restart.

I've searched this but have not come across someone with a non-rooted brand new phone phone with these issues. What do do next?
Getting similar message every several hours on my note 3, non-rooted stock...
Getting this message as well. I've had this phone since launch, messages just started yesterday. Only app I've installed is bit strips.
sEnt from thE noTe 3
I'm wondering if this was done by some sort of backdoor update in an app from Samsung. Seems I only get it when my phone connects to a wifi router
Was getting it for 2 days every several hours but seems stopped today. Having phone since Oct 2nd, started 3 days ago
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
I was getting the same messages. I had to freeze all the five Knox apps using titanium backup, reboot the phone, install titanium restore fixer app, and use titanium fixer every time I restored an app or data using titanium backup. This solved it for me.
Sent from my AT&T Galaxy Note 3
Just a contrasting data point: I've had my N3 for a week, stock unrooted, dozens of apps installed, all apps up-to-date, and I have never encountered this error message. (My device is encrypted, if that matters.)
I started getting this today, too.
Stock everything on my Note 3.
What is so infuriating about this, is that it doesn't tell you which app it is blocking. What in the hell is the point of blocking something if you're not going to even tell me what the potential threat was?!
my 2 cents
I started getting this error after Friday, 10-25 9no system updates I am aware of, stock/un-rooted) I had uninstalled almost all 3rd party apps and just decided to wipe and install from a clean base (that stopped the error, I have installed my must have apps and still good) I would really like to know what was causing this error.
Cheers,
BR
I have also been receiving this error message. Has been roughly 8-10 days now. Seems it appears every time I connect to wifi. (I use juice defender. Every screen unlock the notification pops up when connectivity is re-enabled) I'm stock/unrooted with the same apps I used on my note 2. (Fresh download no titanium restores) I have avg pro installed and it does not detect any errors/viruses/suspicious content. I'm debating factory resetting as well, but for my own curiosity would like to know what the cause of this message is rather then resetting everything and awaiting it to happen again.
Has anybody have any ideas on what's going on?
Thanks,
John

How do we know which application is causing this warning.
Confimed that this annoying message appears on mine as well
It's got to be in Settings>General>Security somewhere, but I can't seem to pinpoint it either.
It's completely stock. I did NOT mess around with anything - root, sim unlock, bootloader, titanium backup (which requires root). All apps are downloaded via google store. Nothing seems unusual. I didn't install any apk that requires "unknown sources" checked.
Most settings are default. I only disable autoupdate, location services, and bluetooth to improve battery life.

Same here, I did not play with roots nor anything else, just plain regular stuff and settings and downloading from the Google store and Samsung store. The message keeps popping up.
I googled the problem and don't seem to find a solution yet.

Not yet, I will post if I get any results.
Just started getting this today. Seems like when connected to wifi this pops up.
Also I just noticed that my phone started to not go to deepsleep very well. This started two days ago. I'm wondering if this warning notification is the causing my phone to not go to deepsleep.
Thankfully so far, I am not getting this, but I am rooted, it seams everyone listed here said they are unrooted, maybe root the device, see if it changes anything.
I am rooted and am getting the message. Also am now getting horrible battery life ever since getting the notifications.

Since I installed [APP] Notification History few hours ago and I haven't seen the Prevention Information Warning yet, but it seems as if this app is preventing that warning because I hear a notification sound every couple of hours almost but nothing is showing in the status bar or in the list of the Notification History. Strange issue!

Camera issues after update to 6.0

I'm having a problem with camera after the update. The camera app opens and it works in picture mode but as soon as trying to switch to any other mode (video, panorama, sphere) it crashes. It shows Cannot connect to camera. At that point I have to delete the app's data to make it work but again only in picture mode. Also I get the same error when trying to access camera from other apps like taking a picture from message app for mms or whatsapp. I tried a 3rd party camera app but they don't work either. I restored one of my 5.1.1 backups but I have the same problem. So is my camera dead or does anybody experienced same issue and maybe found a fix? Also included my logcat when I try to switch from picture mode to video. Thank you for any input
Have you tried doing a full clean reflash of the OS? Wiping everything (including userdata).
Im having this problem too on 6.0
Going to try going back. I was having issues on cm12 but now its completely dead on 6.0
---------- Post added at 02:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:39 PM ----------
After going back to CM12 I still am unable to not use the camera. I also cannot use the flashlight. No flashlight toggle shows up in the drawer. Even if try enabling the toggle from CM settings.
The camera keeps saying "cannot connect to camera".
I just tried wiping all userdata from fastboot and the cache.... Its booting currently.
We shall see - Not looking good.

Went as far to flash back to stock. Still no camera.
Ended up hitting amazon up for a replacement. Lucky for me I bought the phone a few weeks ago. I dont understand the issue because after I placed the order last night I went to sleep, woke up this morning and opened the camera app and it worked fine for about 10 minutes before going dead again.
Seems like a hardware issue at this point but why would it be intermittent.
If you stumble across this thread with the same problem im sorry to say the only luck I have had is with flashing back to stock bootloader, baseband, and system. And at that point it was still bad enough to get a replacement.
i had that problem, but it fixed itself when i restored my nandroid. had to uninstall and reinstall the google camera app all the time. luckily, the problem hasn't come back since my roms latest update, which was a 5.1.1 cm build. really annoying bug. hopefully someone can figure out whats up from your log.

P10 lite screen timeout is very short

On a friends p10 lite the screen is timing out after like 10 seconds even though its set to 5 minutes in display settings, any idea why?
Battery saving mode is probably turned on, check that!
Nothing enabled in that section, it's still timing out very quickly.
It happens to me too, no matter how much I set the timeout to. Usually happens when watching an Instagram video or while on Snapchat camera. Any fixes?
Happens to me too, on my p10 lite. Anyone found a fix? It is so annoying
---------- Post added at 10:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:20 PM ----------
I did a " reset all settings", and it works now. It is probably a software issue, but I dont know if the problem will reappear or not.
Found a fix. I did a "reset all settings" in settings and it now works.
This helped me as well. Thank you. Mind you, this action bumps off your wifi password, your contact names connected to your email and your push notifications. So you'll have to reinstate all those after performing a reset.

P20 Pro Random Reboot / Self Restart

Hi All, I have been experiencing random reboot on my device P20 Pro. I have already cleared system cashes but still the reboot happens. Does anyone of you experience it as well? Is there any way to fix it? Thank you
Had this occasionally with every android phone I've ever had. Nothing to worry about unless it starts doing it very regularly and even then a factory reset should sort it. Unlikely to be a hardware issue.
One or more apps have likely crashed in the background and caused a Kernel Panic, causing the phone to reboot...a bit like a Blue Screen of Death on a PC.

Thanks for responding. It happens like 2 times a week. Is it normal? I don't have such a problem on my HTC U11 if I recall correctly.

Don't get it quite that often, but it depends what apps i'm running etc. Are you rooted?
Might be worth a reset just to clean things up.

Nope it's not rooted. Yup I guess I need to perform a reset on my device.
I just reset my phone. I will monitor it for now. thanks for the help
Happens to me too, about twice a week. Very unlikely to be a hardware issue, since I've had it happen on two different P20 Pro phones. Factory reset does not work.
So now I'm removing one app at a time... Fitbit was not the culprit. NEXT!

If someone with this issue wants to compare apps privately, I'm up for that. My e-mail is my username here + gmail.
France24 was not the culprit.
Event logger app tells me the system kills the Huawei Mobile Services and Messages (sms) apps quite often, even right after restart. Did not happen just before reboot though, nothing did.
Had this happening to me since 128 update, about 2-3 times a week. Pretty annoying to be honest.
My phone still reboot itself once or twice a day after motherboard replacement. Previously can be multiple times like 5 or 6 times.
However, no issues when using Google 2 pixel.

What was the reason for replacing the motherboard? Was it due to the auto restart/reboot problem or some other fault? Thanks

After I factory reset my phone, the auto reboot problem does not arise that often. I think is a software issue.... I will be sending my phone in to service.

You wouldn't expect it on a Pixel phone as it is optimized from head to toe
I'm also seeing this issue since the last firmware update. There's no common denominator. It happens when updating Facebook statuses, replying to texts, interacting with notifications and even trying to reply to this post. I'm loathed to do a factory reset as it takes me ages to reset my phone back up. I've reached out to Huawei on twitter to see where that gets me.

It won't make any different even after you factory reset the phone. Haiz I believe it is due to the software that caused the phone to auto reboot.
Are any of you running gboard as your keyboard. It's quite often that I'm using the keyboard I'm seeing the reboots?
So since changing gboard to manually managed the phone as been more stable. This might be famous last words but I've seen no reboots for the last 3 days.

I'm using Gboard as well. I have yet to experience auto repair when using Gboard. For my case the reboot happens randomly.

Just to update, I actually serviced my phone with Huawei last week and got it 2 days back. It seems like they didn't solve the issue for me. The random c just started yesterday again.
Can we say it's a software / firmware issue that is causing the random reboot?

Note 9 Settings crash when choosing Charge only!

Hi Everyone,
I have a weird problem with my Note 9, I connect it to the PC and a notification showed up to allow transfering data and I allow it.
then I activate the Development mode to change it back to charge only as default USB and this is what happened:
The first time I chose charge only the screen go all white then it do back to development menu
then I click on the Default USB configuration again and click on the charging phone only the settings app crash.
I tried to do it while the USB cable connected and with out it didn't help
restarting the note, disable and re-enable the development mode.
Android version: Pie
Anyone having the same problem?
I started to have also an issue with this. A "settings keep stopping" message continuously appears and it started shortly after the Pie update.
I can go into settings and everything there works fine but the message is annoying. I cleared the cache from the recovery menu but nothing changed, the message persists.
Sometimes the phone freezes when trying to open an app or when accessing the secret folder. It is necessary to reboot it.
Ugh!!
Sent from my SM-N9600 using Tapatalk
Never have that issue. I did a factory reset. But u can try to clear data and cache in apps setting. Not in the recovery.
I have this issue too.
The only annoying workaround I found is to select it through the notification when I plug the USB cable every time...
---------- Post added at 02:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:58 PM ----------
Did you disable some system apps?
If so we can compare since I did with some, to see if it correlates.
if you both updated to pie without doing a factory reset, weird stuff has been reported.
like anything in the IT world, major revisions should be used from scratch and not updated to.
I made a factory reset and it seems my issue is related to the knox modification made by adhell

well the guy above said he used adhell.
a anyways my comment regarding wiping clean when doing a major update still rings true.
AdHell is a GUI to set up a Samsung app already installed on the phone, it mods nothing.
And I wonder how AdHell could ever interfere with the USB charging mode since it's provide no option related to it. ?

Your shouldn't have to factory reset your phone nowadays. And by reading the forum i it actually does nothing 99% of the time.

sure beats doing nothing about it though.
and yeah factory resets does really help when you've upgraded from a previous OS.
also maybe you should read on what can be done with adhell:
https://bit.ly/2Uz24nP
after the read maybe you will understand better by point.
( by modding ( change what is initially not possible) like disabling packages or changing certain permissions can cause FC's)
Reset everything and just let the phone handle it.
Since my s5 on android 5.0 it automatically handles the connection. Just close the window after you enable it In the popup!

Except the firewall part you can already do all of that with ADB. Technically, what you can do in general still falls under that range.
They why I asked him firstly if he did disable some components because it's not technically possible that the two behaviours correlate, especially when it's working through the notification.

What we are trying to do is that to be the default behaviour without having to enable it every time.
