Our Moto X has a LED in the same location - maybe this would also work for us. Anyone try it?
I dunno why you didn't just try it, but no it doesn't work for me
the LED works for me, i'm on Android 5.0, the device has to be rooted, though.

Hi Guys,
Why do you think Google has turned off the led notification in the stock build of android for the Nexus 6?

Ambient display.
So why then include a led?

I believe it actually works. But it is a charging/battery LED. Charging when the phone is off perhaps. Low battery maybe. I don't recall under what situations it actually works, and maybe I am mistaking it for one of the Moto X devices but I am pretty sure there are situations where it works.
Regardless though, it is there, it just isn't a notification LED by default.
Root your nexus and install light flow.
any1 know if thats an option or did nokia stopped using that, i missed it.
its kinda annoying that you cant see if you got any messages if your in dont disturp mode, thats the only mode to turn sound and vibration of.

nokia told me, that i should get a 3. party app for that, but the thing is, there is no led programs that works, seems that the led lamp is gone totally, and the glance , hmm what to say, its so darn small , in my point of view, useless
the most annoying thing is,
the bluetooth part, when seaching for other devices, it only shows mac addresses. not names og nearby devices
If the phone gets unlocked and the kernel source code released, it should be relatively easy to make the capacitive buttons work as notification leds.

I emailed HMD asking if the Nokia 8 would have different models like the Nokia 6, and if one of them included a notification LED. This was the response I received.

Thank you for contacting Nokia Mobile Care Team and for your interest in our Nokia 8 device.
Regarding your inquiry, please be aware the Nokia 8 devices do not have regional versions and the global versions of our devices do not support LED.
For further technical inquiries please do not hesitate to contact us again.

That's so sad maybe write to them suggesting to implement a workaround via the capacitive buttons. This is such small feature yet so powerful for someone like me, this is the only real glace screen I need! lol
I have tweeted them if you guys want to join in and try and get some support to make them think about it at least
https://twitter.com/bumTUNA/status/910035640506617856

True but we need to try especially since they are releasing them in China and India.. lot of potential future / current customers to get onboard requesting the same. Huge market out there.
A possible workaround
You can use the flash LED on the back as a notification LED:

I don't own the phone, nor am I developing this. Was just a statement that it shouldn't be too hard as I've seen it done on other phones.

I've read somewhere that it should be possible with a Xposed module, but I haven't seen someone who managed to get that to work on Pie
Can someone please tell me the names of some (7.0 or higher) roms that activate the led to pulse or blink? I'm receiving a Nexus 6, and i know that this feature can't be utilised while the phone is "stock". Thank you for any feedback.

It's not usable in custom ROMs either, because the hardware doesn't support it. It can be emulated using apps like Lightflow, but at a cost of increased battery drain. Now, is there a custom ROM which supports flashing LEDs? Probably, but I couldn't tell you which ones have it.
Beltz has blinking light. But it may be software blinking, which may prevent deep sleep.
It would be awesome if someone can port the g5s plus night mode to the g5 plus.
Impossible.. wait for oreo
Sad.....I thought since even the e4 plus has it....it would be easy enough to get it on the g5 plus ;_;
Just use this:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.prospectu1.nougatnightmodeenabler
Turning on battery saver will also further reduce the minimum brightness.

I don't know what's up with your device then because I'm on the January patch too and it's working fine. Another app you could try is called Twilight. It works differently by using a screen overlay though.

For anyone facing the problem that your screen doesn't change: Try playing with the switchers, you'll need the bright and tint one's enabled but sometimes it doesn't work, so you need to force them by turning on and off all switchers
CF Lumen doesn't work for you?
If it's the WHITE of everything - substratum and the Swift Dark theme works well. Best $3 or so I've ever spent.
I installed oreo 8.1 official update by Motorola yesterday on moto g5 plus via OTA but now there is no night light or night display option. Not even in moto display. Is there a way to enable it. In moto g5s plus it present under Moto Display as "Night Display". Is a port possible.. ?

I don't know about a port, but currently there is no way to enable it on the 8.1 stock rom.
Same issue with 8.1 stock.
How to enable night light?
I am also looking for way to enable night mode on Moto G5 Plus Android 8.1

"Approach for Moto Display" doesn't work for me, I know that this device have this feature but doesn't work for me =\, I was wondering if anyone else who has this device also has this problem and has been able to solve
Sorry for my bad English
It works for me, there are two situations where the display activates.
1. I reach for the device, or rather have may hand 3-5 cm above the display.
2. The device is laying on the flat surface, and is picked up.
Does neither of these scenario work for you?
