I have 2 Nexus 6s. One is rooted and the other is only unlocked. The rooted phone is showing a different set of choices in the "cellular network settings" menu. It is not registering on the Verizon network using my sim card (activated in my prior Moto X).
On the rooted phone, (does not register on verizon):
1. Data roaming (off)
2. Preferred network type (LTE recommended is selected)
3. Access Point Names (nothing selected but tried EHRPD - Verizon FOTA)
4. Network operators (tried "choose automatically" and "verizon wireless")
Phone notification says, "No service. Selected network (Verizon Wireless) unavailable". Note, this same sim card does work in the non-rooted phone.
On the non-rooted phone (registers ok on verizon):
1. Data roaming (off)
2. Preferred network type (LTE recommended is selected)
3. Select system (Automatic is selected)
Question is, why am I getting different selections between the two nexus 6s, and why doesn't the rooted phone work on verizon? Does root process change the kernel or radio or something that affects these selections?
I had same issue. I factory data reset and I was fine

I just received my Nexus One which I ordered through the Google Developer program (Brightstarcorp) and I'm not able to get it working with the Bell Mobility network for either voice or data
I have a signal bars on my N1 with a Bell Mobility SIM card but it dosen’t works.
When I slide down the notification bar it say "Bell" and try this to get it working.
I have tried all solutions and have the recommended settings on the phone (also running Froyo 2.2.1-Build number : FRG83).
- I tried my SIM to another Bell phone and it works.
- I tried another Bell SIM in my N1 and it did not work.
- I'm using an active data plan card not a prepaid card.
But it works with Rogers or Fido
I tried the following :
1.Go to Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Network Operators: after about 1 minute I see network the currently available Bell
I click on Bell and see a signal not working.
2. Go to the dialer and type in *#*#4636#*#* this bring a hidden menu
3. tap on "Phone Information" It list the current network as Bell and also showing the IMEI and the Phone number. The IMEI and phone number are correct.
4. Hit the menu button and press "Select radio band" and click on "Automatic" .
5. Still not working I make sure radio band is set to "Automatic" then go back to the previous screen and scroll all the way to the bottom. Click under "set preferred network type" and choose through until I find one that works 1. WCDMA preffered or WCDMA only or GSM auto (PRL) it takes a few seconds from the time I click until the settings take place, just watch the signal bar at the top of the screen until it changes. Even try the "unknown" network type at the bottom of the list if the others don't work.
All the above fails.
For those of you out there who have successfully activated the Nexus One on the Bell network could you let me know which version of the phone you have.
Thanks for your suggestions.
well i am sorry to say but i dont think that the phone will work with Bell. the dev phones as far as i know are all AWS. so the only way it is going to work is if you get a rogers sim and use it on edge or a wind/moblicity sim and you can use 3G. bell does not have an edge network to back up on.
That's true. Bell/Telus has only the 3g network. The developer phone will not work. It will use edge/2g on Rogers/Fido. And will be fully supported on Wind or Mobilicity.
Nexus One with a Bell Mobility it dosen’t works!!
About Videotron?
Thanks
Dear All,
I am facing issue in toggling "Preferred network type" after installing GravityBox xposed module. It is stuck at 2G only.
While have written detailed post here at GravityBox [KK] thread, thought of checking with you guys also.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56261909&postcount=12004
Please confirm if you guys can emulate same and confirm if issue is there or not.
Sim 1 is Vodafone which has 3G enabled
Sim 2 is Reliance, no data option
It's ok here.....
Here everything is ok, I can select:
Sim 1: 2G, 2G/3G, 3G
Sim 2: 2G

Thanks for the feedback... Assuming that GB [KK] installed and you are taking about this selection from Quicktiles, pls confirm following:
1) Data enabled on which Sim 1 or 2?
2) Are you actually able to connect to 3G mode - H/H+ icon in status bar?
3) If data enabled in Sim 1, then what is seen at "Preferred network type" 2G or 3G?
Preferred network type can be reached here:
Settings > Wireless & Networks > More ... > Mobile Networks > Preferred network type
1)Sim 1 (Sim 2 cant connect to 3G, just 2G)
2)Yes, H+ when good signal, 3G when not so good.
3)In the device options it's 3G,
but sometimes the "Tile" says 3G/2G - the device options still 3G; this deppends on the network.
I tested this option a lot (Moto G 1 & 2), and the "Smart radio" too, and they worked very well, I just dropped them when I created some profiles in Tasker that took network too.

factory reset would solve your problem
had the same issue (when i used quicksettings toggle),
i did a factory reset and and now i can change 2g to 3g and vice versa
installed gravity box again and everything seems to be working, though i do not dare to use network toggles in quicksettings again.
good luck
I've got a Verizon XT1060 and am having an issue I can't work out. I brought it to Thailand last year whilst running rooted stock Jellybean, bought a SIM, popped it in and was immediately up with working voice and data. Since then, I unlocked the bootloader with Sunshine and flashed to a rooted stock VZW KitKat ROM. That was working great in the States. I brought it to Thailand this week, popped in the same SIM card and found that voice works but data does not.
Symptoms;
1. I get a "Sorry this SIM card is from an unknown source" when the phone boots up.
2. Service state under phone status says "Voice: In service / Data: Out of service"
3. 'Under phone status, 'Mobile network state' says 'disconnected' and 'my phone number' says 'unknown' and 'Mobile network type' says 'unknown' but the IMEI is there
4. No APNs were populated
What I've tried:
1. I've tried setting the preferred mobile network to both Global and LTE/GSM/UMTS
2. Enabled global data roaming access
3. Manually set the APN
4. Manually selected the network operator
5. Rebooted a bunch of times after changing the above settings.
Misc:
Baseband version: MSM8960PRO_BP_2323.038.123.00R
I'm rather confused with the situation. The phone is unlocked as the same SIM card worked perfectly last year. I'm planning on stopping by the local carrier's shop and asking them to check out the SIM but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything else that could be causing this problem. I can't imagine the KitKat update blocking access to foreign SIMs but you never know with Verizon.
Any ideas/hints would be greatly appreciated!
The ATT vs of the N6 doesn't have "Network operators" as an selection. Under Setting...More...Cellular Networks, I have Data roaming, Preferred network type, and Access Point Names. On my N5, Network operators could be selected to scan for other carriers' networks. Is there a change to build.prop that would enable this selection? Or is this not possible?
N6 Moto version doesn't have that either, and I don't recall seeing that option prior to inserting the ATT SIM. So, I'm not sure that particular option is available.

Hi everyone! I recently had a problem with my phone (hard brick on Moto G 2014) while traveling in Canada and had to buy my device locally. After some research I saw that the nexus 6 (XT1103) works fine in Brazil and with our carriers.
I set up the device just fine, upgraded to M and my SIM Card (carrier is VIVO from Brazil) is recognized normally with functional call and SMS, but no data on International Roaming. I checked the APN and looks fine, also tried to reset APNs, configure manually and even wipe data, but no luck. I try to connect and it shows the ! signal on mobile icon, and even shows that some KB of data was used in the process (currently data usage shows 0.12, and it increases every time I activate Data and Roaming).
And finally, I tried to "input the code *#*#4636#*#* on dialer > phone info > set preferred network type as LTE only" as I saw in some places and also didn't work.
----------------
What did work though, while I was writing this post, was changing "set preferred network type" as GSM only.
Is this normal? Or is there anything that I can do to use as LTE or to have this working automatically without the need of changing phone options to GSM only?
And to finish, if any brazilian see this post and had a similar experience, it would be good to know your experience with International Roaming and local data usage (especially if you use VIVO).
Thanks and sorry for long post.
