Borked my messaging app - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yup, tried flashing an aosp over it because I could not load any mms program off of the play store. Hate the stock look and now it just force closes. Stuck using hangouts (yuk) I'm on the Lollipop ota. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Have you tried the new messenger app from Google?

CM10 messaging app on the One

Hey all, has anyone been able to get the CM10 messaging app to work on the One? I'm having trouble with Sliding Messaging and I personally cannot stand the Sense messaging app, but whenever I try to use the CM10 app (either via sideloading it or pushing to /system) I simply get a "Unfortunately, messaging has stopped" notification. The cause for this seems to vary from device to device, so I'm curious if it's just a Sense incompatibility here.

Problems with stock SMS notifications

I installed a messaging app called 8sms because I liked the theme of CM messaging. ( I am stock and unroofed so I couldn't install an inverted stock SMS app ) I noticed a problem with group messaging with 8sms so I switched back to stock. Now I don't receive notifications for any messages even though the setting for notifications is ticked in the messaging settings. I have tried clearing cache, data, restoring default settings and rebooted my phone. But to no avail, does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Did you uninstall the third party messaging app? I had that problem with GoSMS Pro. Notifications didn't work no matter what I did in settings and preferences with each app. It was not until I completely uninstalled Go that my notifications started working again. I've never experienced anything like this on any other android device I've used. No idea what causes this to happen.

Yes I have tried uninstalling 8sms and still had the same issues.

Fixed the problem, it was an issue with MMSC settings within 8sms. I would recommend 8sms to anyone who is unrooted and wants a dark themed stock sms app

Sprint moto x voicemail issue

So a couple of days ago I sideloaded the 4.4 hangouts app and selected SMS. For some reason after I did this my voicemail reverted to something called sprint SMS voicemail. I get a text from sprint saying I have a new voicemail and I provides a number to call or an HTML link. The number is always a busy signal and the link opens chrome and what looks like a flash player but nothing plays. I try to reenable the visual voicemail app, but cant select it in the app manager. Thus I no longer have voicemail. I suppose I might have to wait for kit Kat, but does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this problem in the meantime?

Same here, only difference I have the real Hangouts, I realized it yesterday (I don't get many VMs), I wonder if it has anything to do with HG...
UPDATE: Apparently it's a major Sprint issue, I just Googled it, but I couldn't find a fix... G'luck and lemme know if you found anything

My own update:
Based off my research, it appears that the problem is that the hangouts app grabs the voicemail sms and intercepts it before the voicemail app can retrieve it. Thus as it stands now, hangouts sms is incompatible with sprint v vm. Hopefully the sprint kit kat update will fix this problem.
As of now the only way to get v vm is to disable sms in hangouts and to renable the v vm app. I've done this, and my voicemail is working normally now.

Great, thanx... Sucks, but getting my VMs is more important to me than SMS in Hangouts app

This might be a dumb question but I can't get my voicemail to work after disabling SMS in hangouts. What exactly did you do to re-enable the VM app? Also, I have the Sprint HTC One but I haven't seen this talked about anywhere else.
thanks.
Two things: reload the latest .apk (search for it on xda). Once it is loaded reenable the app in settings. Open the app and rerecord your greeting.

I just randomly decided to try Hangouts again, and it seems to be working fine. Is anybody else still having any issues?

Facebook App Has Taken Over Share Menu In Multiple Apps

Ever since I update my DE to KK, I've noticed that Facebook has become the default share option in a number of apps including Chrome and Engadget.
I have reset the defaults on all apps to no avail. I've uninstalled all FB updates to see if an update was causing the issue, again to no avail. The only thing that corrects the problem is disabling FB altogether.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
I'm running stock 4.4, non-rooted.
Stop using Facebook

Turns out this is a known issue with KitKat and not phone specific.

[Q] SMS issue

Hey guys i need some help. I've got a bootloader unlocked(30.B7) rooted, stock 4.4.4 Moto X and I'm having the hardest time trying to figure out why I cant send text messages but im somehow able to receive them. I can get sms and mms but cannot send. I've tried using different text message apps and none can send. I've tried factory resetting and that didn't help either. Anyone have a clue?

It's possible your message center (SMSC) number setting has been changed or reset somehow (maybe if you recently swapped sim cards or something). Try resetting it by following the guide in the link below (disregard the CyanogenMod branding, it's the same for stock ROM).
if you can't use *#*#4636#*#* then either make an activity shortcut to Phone Info or use one of the dedicated apps in the play store, like Radio Switcher (the apps don't do anything but open Phone Info menu).

OK so i gave this a try and had no luck with the getting my carriers SMSC. I also found on one site that deleting my stock sms app may be the problem? sounds kinda lame since I've done that on other rooms but on other phones. Could that be it?
Yes, if you re-install the stock messaging app it will work.
I've tried different 'stock' sms apps form the play store with no luck still.
By 'stock' sms app I mean the system app 'Messenger" that came with the phone that you uninstalled. You will have to search around to find it since it is not in Play. Next time just disable a system app, do not uninstall it. That way if it breaks something you can re-enable it.
OK so I found the stock sms app and installed it, still a no go. I even tried converting it to a system app using Titanium backup. I've found that in that app and also Hangouts when I enter a thread the app FC's. I don't know what else it could be

Did you set the stock SMS app to the correct permissions? Probably time to flash the system.
