Which Moto X To Get? - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Always was a nexus guy, then got the moto x (1st gen). Loved it.
Just upgraded to the N6. It's too big, and I miss moto display.
I'm currently on At&t (member of a family plan at a good rate), and not under contract.
Which Moto X variant would you recommend?
I'm confused about the Pure Edition. Does it include moto display, etc..? Or is it the same as the play store edition?

Yes get the Moto X Pure edition. You will really like it. The model number is XT1095 and will come with either a Net10 or a TMO Sim. It has all of the great moto software.
I am currently using it on AT&T.

Pure edition is just a new name for the unbranded variant. It still has the exact same software (minus any ATT apps) -- in other words, it's NOT a play store edition

[Q] Is the T-Mobile Moto X Sim-Locked?

I'm looking into the Moto X for my wife and trying to figure out which variant to get. I'd prefer to get an unlocked one if I can, but I don't want to pay a premium to get it. I can deal with the sim lock if necessary.
really? No one knows?

Yes, the Tmobile Moto X is SIM-unlocked out of the box and unbranded in any way. It's pretty much a nexus phone in that way.

Moto Maker Edition vs. Developer Edition vs. Pure Edition...

Whats the difference... my Verizon rep is providing pricing and options for the regular edition and the "Moto Maker Edition", but on the Motorola website all I see is the "Developer Edition" and in other news stories I see "Pure Edition"... whats the difference? Purely symantics for the same unlocked bootloader version of the Moto X 2014?

Moto 2013 - dev edition had an unlockable bootloader. you could get a version for at&t/tmobile or for verizon
Moto 2014 - pure edition has an unlockable bootloader and no carrier branding or apps. you can only get this for at&t/tmobile at full retail price through motorola's moto maker, and you can customize the colors and storage
Moto maker - lets you customize the design of your moto x (2013 and 2014). can not be used on the 2013 dev editions
there's some confusion here because you can use moto maker to make a pure edition moto x. however the important thing to know on verizon is you have 2 options: a preconfigured color & storage straight from verizon, or a customized version through moto maker. however you cannot get a pure edition on verizon

Moto Maker is the version where you get to customize it and select the colors you want. If you get this option and use either AT&T or VZW the bootloader will be locked down and not available to be unlocked unless someone comes up with a method to do so.
Pure Edition is a GSM only version (works on T-Mobile and AT&T) and it is sim unlocked as well as bootloader unlockable (the new GSM Dev edition)
Developer Edition is only available on the old Moto X, that was the version you have to pay full price for just like the current Pure, but the old Moto X had a VZW Dev Edition.
Excellent... thx. I guess I'll be getting the standard VZW one and then hoping "someone comes up with a method to do so"

As of right now, if you order a Verizon Moto X, you will be getting last years. They don't have an officially announced model yet (and I am speculating they could just release the new Droid (that looks really cool) and not an X).
My Verizon rep (we're Gov) definitely sent me pricing info on the "New Moto X - 5.2" etc... when I asked him yesterday AM he hadn't heard anything yet... but after doing some digging he was able to provide pricing etc this morning....

I'm a little bit confused. I want a moto x with all the moto apps like moto assist, voice control and active display. If I want to root the device and install xposed framework. Which one do I have to buy? I'm living in Germany and when I go to moto maker there is nothing I can't choose among different versions, except in storage size and colour.

All of this model discussion is for US models. There should be just one EU model (that I am aware of) that should work with all common bands in the EU and have the software of the Pure edition. The issue here is the US mobile industry is a mess and controlled by the mobile networks, making moving between providers (or traveling out of the US) a pain in the neck.
Unless your on T-Mobile in which case you can go overseas no problem. Love T-Mobile!
Singapore Use
Hi,
I live in Singapore. I just wanted to check that the pure edition should work here if I can get it shipped to me?
I know the LTE is not working for now but it should work on HSPA+ I think.
Will it still get the updates from Motorola/Google or are those USA specific?
Thanks a lot.

I got this from @hungryoungman
"Confirmed - Following phones to be updated to Android L on the same day. Samsung: GS5, Note 3&4 ; HTC One M8; Moto X 1&2; Nexus 4,5,7,9."
Pure Edition means it is not tied to a specific carrier. Updates will come direct from motorola.
Pure Ver. Price it different?

the pure version is unlocked and not tied to a carrier. since it's not subsidized, you have to pay the full price for it.

Thank you.
So then will be a "convert to pure edition" utility... For software updates more efficiently?
What?!?!? No, you have to purchase the pure edition at full price. You don't update to pure edition.
It means it haven't been violated and perverted by AT&T and Verizon.

I don't think it's that easy with the Moto X, probably end up with a brick, but you're free to try.

[Q] Verizon Pure Edition

Just wondering if verizon will activate a moto x (pure edition)
It wont work. It only works on gsm networks.
No. Verizon mainly uses band 13 for LTE, which the Pure Edition lacks.
So their is no version of moto x 2014 with unlock able bootloader on Verizon?

yep that's correct you can NOT unlock your bootloader if you are on Verizon. But there are plenty of threads out there that talk about this and answer this question already please read or learn how to use the search feature.
I figured as much. I use the new Tapatalk app and is pretty much broken now so hard to navigate. I did browse through allot of threads for about an hour and the biggest problem is everything is in one thread so have to sift through all the other carrier stuff. On my s4 it had a dedicated Verizon thread.

Moto X Dev Edition and Verizon...can it be done?

Can I connect my Moto X Dev Edition to Verizon or a prepaid service with Verizon antennas like Page Plus? Or is that the reason why there was a Verizon Edition released along with the Dev Edition?
Do you have a XT1060 developer edition, or is it the XT1053 developer edition? As long as it's an XT1060, it should work on VZW as long as you have a SIM card.

Nope, it's the XT1053 Version
Then no, it won't work on VZW or any other CDMA carrier
